My car needed a new fuel pump and come to find out Pep Boys didn't have the exact tools needed for my specific vehicle to get the job done. Knowing this, Eric did his OWN research to find another shop to fix my car and for such a good, reasonable price!!!! He even had it taken there for me while I was at work! Beware, overpriced tires! Plus, the guy quoting the tire prices is slick like a used car salesman. I came here for a quote to replace 2 tires (front and back). I asked how much to replace the TWO tires and he (talking real slick) said $450. Mind you for no name brand tires. So I clarified the price, then he said no, if you want the back tires it would be $520. I was like ok, $520 for both? Turned out those are individual prices. Wow! Almost $1000 to change out two tires! Went to a small business owned tire center (Eagle Smog Check in Downey off Telegragh) and got both tires replaced with a Michelin off brand for $270 all-in. He even checked another tire that has been leaking air and fixed it for free! Do yourself a favor and get quotes. read more

God-Jesus what a project. Came to get an oil change. It was Sunday and I didn't want to bother with it during the weekday. They were the only one close enough and open. I suppose it was somewhat busy and the guy says there are about 3 people ahead of me. Not a problem, I can walk down the street and watch some Youtube at home. Then problems begin. About an hour and a half later he calls and goes over the courtesy inspection with me. Holy hell, by the sound of it, my car is essentially going to blow up into a million tiny pieces. He starts droning on and on about how dangerous my car is. Granted, it is a piece of shit, but I've never had any problems with it before and he never mentioned some of the things I already knew had problems. You know those mechanics who ask you, "look you know your car better than anybody else, how does it run?" LOVE those mechanics. Not Pep Boys. Anyway, I politely thanked him for the inspection but he keeps pushing the sell. I have no quarrels with the guy personally, it might have just been Pep Boys bullshit scare tactics they make employees push. What a shitty job. Well, what bothered me was his own angry tone, as if he had done the inspection himself and I was a fool for not getting 4 new tires (kiss my ass). About 30 minutes later I had to call back because I know for a fact it doesn't take that long to change an oil filter. I asked for the status and he said, "about 30 more minutes bro". Nice, bro. Show up 30 minutes later and he keeps trying to push the sell. Says he has the right to hold my vehicle for it being in such dangerous condition. I say, "come on dude, it just needs a car wash." I live in Downey so I called in because my tire has a nail needs to be patched and the guy at the service desk told me there tire machine isn't working at the moment. So I come to pep boys here in Bellflower and the gentlemen here tells me that they get alot of Downey's customers here. He tells me that they don't need the tire machine working to fix my tire. I just left this shop because the older gentleman who was helping me wanted to charge me $69.99 for an oil change on my very basic Honda Accord. This would have been my second time having an oil change done on one of my cars here. The first time I was written up by a much nicer, less questionable, younger guy but later charged by this same guy from today and he tried to charge me more than the first Guy's estimate. Good thing I caught it. Today he tried to tell me that because my car takes only takes 0w-20 oil and because the only 0w-20 oil they carry is synthetic, my oil change would have cost me $70. Ridiculous!!! Not even Honda charges me that much for an oil change. Granted my Elantra takes 5w-20 so the first oil change didn't cost me as much but something sounded fishy about he was telling me and trying to charge me. Car repair shops are known to try to take advantage of women that come in alone but I used to work at a Honda service department though so sorry Pep Boys, you lost a sale today and a customer. read more

I'm giving them a star only because we bought tires off them before with no major issues. They probably got us and sold us something extra that we needed that time too, now that I think about it. Well this last visit we had, my husband went in for an oil change. They told my husband that the cars coolant compartment was bone dry and needed to be filled asap before it messes up our car. They offered to fill it for about $16 but they recommended another thing to check on it for like $40. These aren't major numbers but that is our hard earned money and it's very upsetting seeing that my husband was wise enough to check the coolant reservoir himself, and to see that it is full to the MAX line. So far I haven't had a bad experience here, started coming here instead of Jiffy Lube. Prices are reasonable for standard maintenance services, but I usually take my car elsewhere for more intricate services (better pricing). Their waiting room is nice and comfortable. I'm a sucker for their Keurig coffee, they have a refillable water bottle station, TV is always working, point being I don't mind waiting here. In regards to the waiting time I've never had to wait more than 1 hour from the time I've arrived until my car was finished, which is pretty good considering I've come here when other people are having their vehicle serviced at the same time. I would give them 1 more star but when you first arrive the customer service is lacking, but that's only because you can tell they're busy multitasking. So I can't fault the employees too much if they're understaffed, they do their best to make due with what they have, and it probably makes my overall wait time less. read more

Awful experience! The Pep Boys near my home is always helpful, honest and courteous - this Pep Boys is the opposite. My local store was out of tire chains that fit my car but they found it at this location and called to confirm they had it in stock. I drove over an hour to this location and they tell me the item had been returned this morning and I was in luck. Great! The box had been zip tied together so I was unable to open but Steven reassured me it was brand new and fine. I get up the mountain and pull over to put my chains on, only to realize the final parts of the chains were missing and it hadn't been "fully inspected" as I was assured. It's dark and 11 degrees out. Ugh what a nightmare! So the following day I return to this Pep Boys and nicely explain the situation and asked for a refund to the cashier (Not Steven). His reaction was so over the top you would have thought I asked for his first born child. He told me he couldn't return and I would have to come back tomorrow. I asked for the manager and he said he wasn't there and to come back tomorrow. I again calmly told him I could not come back tomorrow as this location is extremely far from my home. He kept ranting and raising his voice at me and I could see everyone become increasingly uncomfortable in the store. I told him to speak appropriately to me and explained over and over I was sold damaged/missing merchandise and I would simply like a refund. He finally agreed to give me a refund but said he was charging a restocking fee. I asked what the restocking fee was for, as these were clearly not to be restocked and resold. Hello! They were missing pieces. Again, he ranted about returning things to the shelves and company policy. I finally said fine, I'll pay the restocking fee but I would like the name of the manager and the phone number to corporate. He rudely remarks to the cashier I'm standing in front of to give me the full refund because he hates people who argue with him. So finally I quipped back that I hated people who tried to take advantage of me. He was silent after that and she proceeded to give me a full refund. Boy what a headache! read more

Went in for an appointment to get an oil change and recalibrate the tire sensors. Two hours later we were called to pick up the car and they forgot to do the tire sensor recalibration so we waited another hour. Fine. However, we left and there was a HUGE oil puddle in our driveway that evening under the car. Turns out they didn't tighten the nut... What was meant to be a convenient oil change ended in us having to spend time trying figure out what the sudden leak was and lifting our car anyways. I would have left a voicemail with the shop, but the phone number listed isn't connected with an after hours messaging system. Needless to say, my husband was very disappointed that I convinced him to take the car in to the shop in order to "save time." read more

I brought my car in for a simple oil change and tire rotation and got a call that my car needs a new axle boot worth over $400. I thought this was suspicious seeing that I had recently taken my car to a specialist who said nothing about a bad axle boot. Took the car home and first noticed they lost some of the under side guard screws. They even tried to replace some with US type screws, but stock are suppose to be metric screws. Noticed also some holes were stripped. When I inspected axle boot I saw a small cut that looked like it was made with a razor blade or diagonal cutters. This was suspicious because the under side guard would have protected this area. So why was there a cut? Grease from axle boot was everywhere. Had to do my own patch job. I'm not at this point accusing them of cutting my axle boot, but I am accusing them of loosing screws, stripping threaded holes, and replacing with non-metric screws. This really puts into question their integrity. Will not take my car to Pepboys anymore. Seems like they are just focused on getting cars out the door kind of like a fast food restaurant with no care about quality. Update: I saw that they also lost my air filter clips. read more

Been coming here since it was a discount tires. Always received great service from Herb and Rafael. Seems like they've left the store and the great customer service along with them. I've taken my cars there for different services and definitely don't get the same service from the new staff. On this last visit I just needed a patch on a tire that had a nail in it. I got to the store at 6pm, shop closes at 7pm. The service guy told me they were too busy but I only saw one person waiting and one car being worked on. I guess that counts as real busy. He also told me to go somewhere else. I've taken my car there for the same reason over the years and Herb and Rafael would accommodate since a patch doesn't take very long, even when they've had a full deck of cars being worked on. To add insult to injury I bought the tires there so any flat tires are supposed to be serviced for free. And not only do I get told to go somewhere else so I can pay for the patch but now you want me to drive even longer on a damaged tire? Way to look out for a long time customer's safety. My guess is that the new attended wanted to leave before closing time. Keep turning away customers before closing, and that staff won't have to worry about customers anymore or working when customers leave to other competitors and this location shuts down. read more

It is the only place I trust to send my friends and family to without having to worry about getting charged too much or sold anything unnecessary. Customers beware!! I went in the other day to get an oil change. They sent out a promotional coupon for $39.99 synthetic oil & $15.99 for regular oil change for up to 5 quarts. These guys charged me for 7 quarts of oil when my van only took 5.5 quarts. They said because that's what the computer showed. The tech who actually did the labor didn't write on his paperwork how many quarts he actually used, Maybe not in his job description. don't think that would have even mattered, they still would have charged me "What the computer showed". From the get go I didn't feel comfortable with having it done there. I normally go to Norwalk Toyota & they charge me a flat $40 & I also get the car rinsed nice if it's needed. I went back to get my 1 quart refunded (yes I did) they wanted to go back to my van to correct what their computer showed. Uh I think not! To give me the refund the dudes didn't even know how to complete the transaction... More training needed there also. Hopefully they've corrected their "Computer mistake" by now.
