DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME!!! Because they sure as hell do not. I call around 3:50 PM asking if they can replace my rear brake pads. They say sure, come on in. I tell them I'm 15-20 minutes away. They say no problem, they're open until 7 PM. I arrive, check in, and am told the whole thing will take about 90 minutes. After waiting MORE THAN 90 MINUTES, they finally come out to tell me my rear brake pads need to be replaced. Really?!?! You don't say?!?! It's not like that's literally the reason I called and came in. But here's the good part: they tell me they can't work on my car because they're closing at 6 PM. This whole time, I think they're working on my car. I think they're coming out to tell me how much I owe because the job is finished. But nooooo. After all that time, all they're able to do is confirm what I already know and tell me they can't do anything about it because they're closing early. They waste nearly two hours of my day just to send me home with the exact same problem I came in with. If they had told me from the jump that they were unwilling to do the work, I would have gone to one of the many other local shops in the area. Instead, they decide to waste two hours of my day because I guess they don't view their customers as actual human beings with lives, schedules, responsibilities, and time that is worthy of even the most basic level of respect and consideration. If incompetence had a face, the guys at this location would be it. Incompetent, careless, completely disrespectful, and seemingly incapable of basic communication and human decency. Either way, I'm sure nobody will be held accountable and they'll continue treating their customers like garbage. Go literally anywhere else. read more

The Pep Boys on Lakewood Blvd in Downey is poorly managed. This is my second experience with current management. Ricardo was in charge on a Sunday morning and he informed me that it would take 4 hours to repair a flat tire. I left my car with them expecting to receive a call to pick up. Six hours later still no call and near to closing Ai made a call and Ricardo said I needed a new tire and could replace all four within an hour. It appears that they are untruthful with their customers to get a bigger sale. They had done nothing to the car all day. I have been a customer over 35 years at this location and never was I treated disrespectful by any employee until my last two visits. Pep Boys Corporate should check this out.Very unprofessional! Service!!! I need tire alignment, I got new wheels. Hours of operation says they close at 7 pm. I went to two different locations in Downey and supposedly their technician was gone for the day, both locations!!! One location I was there at 540 pm and the other one around 5:50 pm. They only 10 minutes apart. No wonder pep boys closed their parts store couple of years ago. It will not surprise me when all their tires shops close their business! I would wonder why ? Doesn't honor a lifetime warranty. I have had a lifetime alignment at this location for over twenty years and today, without any prior notification, Pep Boys refused to honor it. Mario and Jose both just said "it's a corporate decision" and offered no remedy other than for me to pay for the service once again. Why would I pay for this service again when Pep Boys refuses to honor warranties? I paid for this when it was Discount Tire Center and Pep Boys bought them out and absorbed the warranty. The sign says certified smog check but I assure you that are not or at least don't want to do the work I don't know. However with that being said if they tell you to go to another pep boys the other one will most likely not be certified in smog checks. Therefore I would not go to any pep boys available in the country for a smog check if I were you. read more

Eric is ALWAYS helpful and very honest. He'll tell me exactly what needs to be done, what can wait, and what my options are. I usually make an appointment to ensure I get my vehicle in and out in a timely manner. If not, you could end up waiting all a day as they do tend to get busy. Nearly all their prices for services are better than elsewhere, especially the dealer. The ONLY thing I won't get from them is a battery. Pep Boys does not have a very good warranty. I've been here before, but I was disappointed in my most recent visit here this past week. First off, I was surprised they weren't open earlier than 8am. What about folks who start work at 8am and need to just drop off their car before work? Secondly, I went in for a new car battery. And they charged me $240 for mine (because I have a push start). I'm sorry but that's more than double what a typical job like that costs. I'm calling BS. Unfortunately I went through with the purchase because I couldn't exactly shop around (my battery was in urgent need of being replaced and I wasn't sure if my car would start again). I was stuck in that position. This is why people like myself hate getting their car serviced - stick a knife to our back and take our money. Literally don't trust car mechanics for this reason. I have used the Pep Boys by my home in Long Beach and they are always helpful and responsive. I am an avid Pep Boys user so I was not happy to see this place misrepresent a company I use/refer often. My daughter lives in the area and I came to help her as her car battery died. I figured I could drive over here (closest to her home) for a quick battery check to see if I need a new battery. The guy inside wanted me to leave my car?!?! For a battery check? I honesty could take the machine and check my battery myself. He said they only had one tech and me helper, which I understand... but nobody was waiting in store so why could HE not bring machine out to car? They do it all the time at other locations. My brain preprocessed the mili second interaction and said "roll out bruh, this isn't going to happen" I was told 2-3hr wait to change a valve stem. Came here Sunday afternoon. Called ahead, for a nail stuck in my back tire. Guy who helped me was awesome super friendly. Watched some football & got my nail removed with it puncturing the tire, so I basically walked in, they removed nail from tire & I didn't have pay anything. Also the guy stated my tires all had low tire pressure and they checked all tire pressure and put correct tire pressure in all tires. -If the nail did go through & they would have had to patch it up $29.99. My first time getting routine maintenance on my car since my free service term ended with Toyota. I was nervous about taking it somewhere besides Toyota but I'm glad I gave this Pep Boys a shot. Staff was prompt and helpful. I actually came in with a friend who had an appointment and they managed to squeeze me into their schedule even though they were busy and were closing in 2 hours. I mentioned that one of my tires kept losing air pressure so they took a look. They found a screw in my tire and patched it up for me (at a reasonable price of course). My friend had a good experience too, they advised him on some maintenance work he needed but didn't pressure/bully him into getting it the same day. They expressed the urgency without causing discomfort. There was a nice lounge area to wait, complete with free amenities including wifi, charging station and coffee (from a Keurig so it's fresh and hot). The decor was new and modern- didn't feel run down and dated like most auto shop waiting areas. read more
