I've used Downey Express Smog Check twice in the past 60 days. Both times Oscar Lopez was fast, efficient, professional, and knowledgeable. I used to use a smog place in Rosemead', but they weren't always reliable. Downey express has reasonable hours and reasonable rates. I highly recommend Downey Express for Smog Checks! We've been bringing our 3 cars here for years, but since Oscar left service is sketchy. When I last took my old car in for smog, the guy said he couldn't do it pending state certification. Came here on Friday morning to get my smog check done. There were two men working on a car and they asked me to park on the side as it should be a few minutes wait. Waited about five minutes, then I parked my car in their service area. They told me it would take about 15 minutes to complete the smog check. I literally sat in the waiting area for a little over five minutes and then it was done. The two gentlemen were very friendly and professional. Service was completed in no time. They are Star certified, they were very nice and informative, the smog check took less than thirty minutes, you can pay by debit, cash or credit. There is a waiting area inside with a tv, couches, massage chair, they offer coffee as well. I felt like I was right at home, they make you feel comfortable and welcomed. Not to much you can say about a smog check location but if your looking for one that shouldn't leave you with any complaints, then this is the spot I recently took a friend here to get her car smoged and we had a quick and painless experience. Note, it can be slightly confusing where to line up your vehicle as this location is in the rear part of a car wash lot. You will want to make sure to observe the cars that are parked and the cars lined up to be serviced as well as making sure they see you. This is to avoid any controversy about who is next. read more

Came here to get a smog check. I was told by a technician I was after one of the cars and that it would be quick. He told me to park right next to the car I would be right after. After waiting 45 minutes for the car ahead of me, I saw another car drive into the garage and I got out to ask why I wasn't next. He seemed pretty confused and pointed at the line of cars, even though he was the same person who told me to park at the area next to the garage. He didn't acknowledge his mistake and just said I could be after the car that's in the garage. I left due to the unprofessionalism and lack of accountability. I do not recommend coming here to get your car smog checked unless you are willing to wait over an hour. read more

I went on a Saturday morning. I thought it opened at 8:30, and the guys got there about 10 minutes before 9. I mentioned what the hours read online, and the guy said they tried to change the hours but Yelp wasn't helpful. Anyhow, Saturdays are opened at 9 am. A few months back I decided to stop by for a smog check. It was a little confusing to find as it is located behind the car wash. There's also multiple shops next to each other. Downey Express Smog is the last one on the right. Make sure you get out of your car and approach Oscar before waiting in line if there is one. He'll let you know where to wait and how long the wait is. I stopped by on a Thursday morning about 30 min after they opened and there were 2 cars waiting ahead of me. Each car takes about 20-25 min. For those wondering, they do offer STAR certified check. read more

4/5 Subtracted one star due to the fact that I have been here twice now and both times they have never been opened at 8:00AM as the hours say. So if you're going to get there early, don't get there exactly at 8 or you're going to be waiting around twiddling your thumbs. I'd say get there around 8:30AM and the staff should be there. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The Downey Express Smog Check Center staff member was courteous and got right to work on my wife's vehicle. He told me it'd be around 15-20 minutes, but finished the job in far less than that (around ten minutes). Will definitely come back for my truck. read more
