I used Yelp services to recommend a Star smog location so I could get a smog check for the dmv and it shared prices of nearby shops. They quoted me $60 for my 2018 Toyota Corolla IM, $5 off if I check-in. They accepted walk-ins.. I had 3 people ahead of me but they were fast! Once it was my car's turn, it was quick :) Total time, including the people ahead of me, I was there less than half hour. Pay at the end. read more

Highly recommended! Great service and price. He sends the results to DMV so you can finish the renewal online, got my tag a few days later in the mail. Luis even went the extra mile and added air to my tires that were low. In and out in 15 minutes, speaking of which, In-N-Out is right down the block so you can stop by with your Double-Double and fries but be prepared to share the fries with him. read more

Update: Returned again in September and October 2025 for smog checks for my 2005 Ford Focus and my Mother's 2013 Kia Soul. Not much of a price increase from last time. $60, with $5 off for a Yelp check in. $55 each car. Still a very popular place, and so you might have a person or 2 (or 3 during peak hours) ahead of you, but the checks are done fast. That said, it'll still probably take at least 15-30 minutes, and more if it's busy. They do good work cheap, so there's usually a line. read more

Good service minus being charged 100.00 for star certify smog check. Then when i failed I was charged again for a retest which I passed. Next time it came to smog my car I went to another location who told me there is zero record of me ever failing in the system for the past 8 years. Something doesn't sound quite honest. read more

Super fast, efficient and affordable. I came to get a smog after some engine repairs not knowing that I needed to drive the car 100+ miles to let the engine reset. Needless to say I failed. Came back 2 weeks later and only paid $10 retest and my car passed and I was good to go. Very convenient location across from the Bellflower DMV with seats under an umbrella to wait. They quoted me way under anyone else that I had called prior to going with them. I will recommend A-1 Muffler Express to all of my friends and family. They all make you feel that you're part of the family. They offered me coffee and cold water while I waited for my car to be done. One thing to remember, they are experts in mufflers, exhaust systems, and not any other type of work. But it never hurts to ask if they can do it for you!

The gentleman on the phone said the transmission fluid is for life unless I'm towing or carrying heavy loads. When I questioned why I see that it's recommended online he says that dealers will recommend this service all day but if you check the Toyota maintenance manual it says you don't need it. Man! I haven't even been to this shop yet and I'm already getting a good feeling about this place. It's a bit more expensive for an oil change than other places that have quoted me, but I like that they use factory parts including Toyota oil filters. I'll update this review once I get the car in for my first visit. Stay tuned.... 6/29/26 - Brought my Sienna in for an oil change + complimentary 30-point inspection (since it was my first time there). Jared took the van for a spin, brought it back and lifted it up. They found a little oil seepage coming out of the transfer case. I let them know that I did see a transfer case drain/fill on the CarFax report before I bought it. Jared thinks they just didn't torque it properly so they were going to retorque and clean up around the area and keep an eye on it. Worst case scenario, they would need to order a new drain plug gasket and I'd have to come back to get it replaced. Thankfully, the drain plug just needed to get tightened. I was in and out in almost exactly an hour just as Robert promised. Thanks The Toy Shop team!! Pro Tip: they are booked out at least a week in advanced so make your appointment ASAP!

Yes the estimate was pricey but again he was using Merced's parts and we all know that those aren't cheap. But what I appreciated most was their honesty . He told me that the rotors on the back were shit and definitely had to be replaced but the front were fine and if the price was too much I could actually wait awhile (not forever, but a payday or two) before replacing the brakes . I thought this was the most honest expertise I had ever had with an unknown mechanic. If you want the job done right, with friendly, professional people I would recommend this business to you and anybody who needed a wheel alignment and or brakes . These guys are great here. It was easy and fast I would totally recommend coming back. But they do charge $50 now and you can save $5 by checking in with yelp and using the coupon. read more
