Walk-ins are welcome here. Once my car was up to be checked, I was out in about 10 minutes. I would recommend coming here if you need the DMV smog check. The guys working here were friendly, helpful, quick and efficient with the servicing. Not sure what other places charge, but it was $60 here. Call ahead to get the price, I did and it was what I was quoted over the phone. read more

I used Yelp services to recommend a Star smog location so I could get a smog check for the dmv and it shared prices of nearby shops. They quoted me $60 for my 2018 Toyota Corolla IM, $5 off if I check-in. They accepted walk-ins.. I had 3 people ahead of me but they were fast! Once it was my car's turn, it was quick :) Total time, including the people ahead of me, I was there less than half hour. Pay at the end. read more

Update: Returned again in September and October 2025 for smog checks for my 2005 Ford Focus and my Mother's 2013 Kia Soul. Not much of a price increase from last time. $60, with $5 off for a Yelp check in. $55 each car. Still a very popular place, and so you might have a person or 2 (or 3 during peak hours) ahead of you, but the checks are done fast. That said, it'll still probably take at least 15-30 minutes, and more if it's busy. They do good work cheap, so there's usually a line. read more

Super fast, efficient and affordable. I came to get a smog after some engine repairs not knowing that I needed to drive the car 100+ miles to let the engine reset. Needless to say I failed. MY FATHER HAS TAKEN MY CAR THERE BEFORE AND IT PASSED. I don't know if it was due to me being a female, or he just didn't want to work on my car, but after waiting for 5 mins while he was checking my car, he calls me over explaining that he would need to take another person instead of me because my car was going to take longer. He said that my cabin air filter had to be looked up to see if it was legal or not. It's had the sticker with the number on it! Even though I confirmed to him that the past owner had put all the stuff on the car. It's already completely legal. He said some bullshit about needing to check everything and run it through his system. Even though I waited my turn to get my car checked he wanted to take another car, that came after me, before he worked on my car, and said I could wait or take my car. Instead of being rude I just laughed and said I would take my car instead of waiting. POS.

Highly highly recommend supporting this small business. I first called First Class Smog (Buena Park) because of ratings and a coupon. I told him I had a coupon and he quoted a higher price than the coupon and said read the coupon (that didn't say anything about that) and cash and credit card were different prices. He was a bit snippy so I thought red flag - not giving this guy my business. Then I called Cal Smog - they told me the price and told me they would take care of me right away. A business that does what they say they are going to do without a crappy attitude. Thank you!

From the moment I pulled up, the staff was incredibly friendly and professional--greeted me nd explained the process clearly without any upsell pressure. So I drive on freeway to another place: same story. Cat Converter still not ready, can't test. Notice BOTH places were able to determine it was not ready with the pretest so no services rendered and I wasn't charged anything. So this morning and drive it for 1.5 hours and end up here. I tell them "please pretest, it wasn't ready the last two times." They have no waiting area so I stood off to the side. I see them pretest, they say nothing. I see them start the real Smog check. Great! All is well. After they are done the worker approaches me, all smiles, and says "Ok, all done! Oh wait--" He read the print out of the test he was about to hand me: The catalytic converter wasn't ready. And they did the test anyway and CHARGED ME for it. I ask "Why did you do a smog check you knew would fail ahead of time?" No answer. His solution was to charge me $50 and retest for $30. The next time he promised he would do the pretest (the thing every other place does first to determine if they should do the smog check) "for free." And, why on earth would I go back?
