Stewart's Automotive is responsive and efficient. I've been taking my car here for years and have always had good experiences.

This was the closest mechanic i can bring it to because i needed to change my radiator cap. For both the cap and "labor" they charged me $209 mainly coming from "labor". Fast forward to August and my car starts overheating and i take it to my trusted and reliable mechanic who says that whoever put the radiator cap on my car used a cheap and poor quality one which resulted in coolant leaking out. My mechanic only charged me $22 to change the cap and installed a high quality cap. Needless to say i'm extremely disappointed and unsatisfied with my visit here and will not be coming back and would never recommend anyone to visit this shop. read more

I've owned and daily-driven my 1969 Mustang for over 15 years, and during that time, I've always handled the mechanical work myself. I'm very particular about who touches my cars--but with a busier schedule, the Mustang had fallen behind on maintenance. I was referred to Stewart's Automotive by another fellow car enthusiast, and I'm so glad I listened. Stewart's is one of those rare shops that's honest, reliable, and professional. They're not the cheapest and not the most expensive--but their prices are honest, and the value you get for the quality of work, transparency, and customer care is absolutely worth it. Before bringing them my Mustang, I started taking my now-wife's 2012 Ford Focus there. Her previous mechanic of many years was overcharging and not being fully transparent. I asked around for a shop that people truly trusted, and Stewart's kept coming up. Now they're the only place we take our cars. They took excellent care of my Mustang--addressed everything it needed to get back on the road and made thoughtful recommendations that happened to match things I was already planning to tackle. That gave me even more confidence in their knowledge and integrity. I've also seen some of the work they've done in the shop, and I have to say--it's highly impressive. Went to get my brakes taken a look at and they told me my intake manifold needed new gaskets on a Chevy 350 engine they wanted $1650 to change out two gaskets and tighten three screws on my muffler. Wow talk about trying to take advantage of a customer, they charged $150 just to tell me my intake had a leak. Wow I would not recommend this shop to anyone they over charge to pay for their Snap on Boxes. read more

I am saddened to see some of the bad reviews, I just sent one of my friends that are new to the area to Stewart's literally 5 minutes ago. Hilary is the best and the prices may seem a bit at times but in comparison to other places I have found not so much. They do great work, fast friendly and to me they are extremely honest. They do not BS and try to sell something you don't need. If they take long it is because they are so busy. I have not seen them have a slow day. I would not take my car anywhere else. This place is so honest!!! They went out of their way to check everything on my ac unit and found the problem... fixed it quick and charged me so much less than any other place had quoted me. Most shops would have just told me I needed a new unit but not here. I'm bringing my car back on Monday to get an oil change and get everything else serviced so I can bring them a thank you gift!!! They're open every Saturday except the second Saturday of the month too! Hillary was so helpful even from my first call with her. So many people came in while I waited on my car and each customer said they've been coming here for years and now I know why! I'll be a lifer here with Stewart's Automotive and you should be too. For the POC who may be looking: they were nice but this is definitely MAGA-land and I was sitting in the lobby during a brake inspection listening to them and their friend who dropped by talk about how their other friend probably died because she's had too many vaccines and I'm getting extremely uncomfortable listening to them continue to talk about sensitive subjects in the least empathetic way I've ever heard. I'm really happy with the service I received at Stewart's Automotive. I ended up here by mistake (not in a bad way, I was trying to find another automotive repair place and ended up here). I walked in and Hillary immediately welcomed me. I told her my car needed a battery replacement and she checked to make sure they had the right battery for my car. Once she secured that, she asked me to pull my car out to the front and a mechanic was ready and waiting. It was a quick and painless process. I know going to a mechanic can be anxiety inducing for women. The facility was clean and it had a friendly and professional atmosphere. I was in and out in 20 minutes with a brand new battery. I received great service from start to finish. Hillary was friendly and helpful on the phone. She was straightforward in giving an approximate price estimate and scheduled me in right away. After diagnosing the problem they got back to me promptly and i was able to pay over the phone and make arrangements for car pick up on the same day. They fixed what i needed: knock sensor replacement, crusted battery leads, and tacking back the splash shield which was falling off. Everything went so smoothly, and my car runs great! Let me just start with the great customer service Hillary provided. She was so nice and quick responding. She is willing to work with you and very considerate. Months back they did a great job updating my 1973 Pontiac drum brakes to disc brakes and tuned it up. They did a great job, all the new parts and lines where ran neatly. I have been driving my car and it's been great no issues at all. This week I took my 2007 GMC Canyon. In a nutshell I made a mistake purchasing this vehicle without properly checking the vehicle. They disabled the check engine light and it had issues so it didn't pass smog. I told them my situation and they truly came through and worked with me. They had to do an extensive repair and worked on the price to help me out. They even repaired the check engine light for free. I can't thank them enough. Thank you Hillary! read more

A lot of people in my community referred me over to this place and I'll never do business with them.. I had a tow truck take my car to them ONLY because I was guaranteed that it would be fixed today. I had the vehicle taken in at 11 only to be told at 4 that they would need it over night because the part was "defective". I get it things happen.... Then one of the techs comes on the line and says a bunch of BS that contradicted what the lady in the front said. Makes no sense , I really wanted to give this place a shot but unfortunately it seems as if they have VERY bad business practices... I made an appointment to come in and get my 1951 chevy checked up since I just bought it. It had a leak and the shifter was acting up. They called me a few hours since the car still had most of the original parts, they rather not get Into it. They tighten up my shifter to help me out. Everyone was friendly but too bad it didn't work out. I feel others would of just taken the job for the money and would of continued to have issues with the car. Oil change review: I was recommended to this shop by NAPA Auto & boy was I happy I did. I came in @ 1130am & immediately mechanic approached me asking how "he could help me". I told him I needed an oil change. He was to nice enough to tell me that, they were gonna break for lunch to come back in haft N' hour, so I didn't have to wait. I came back around 12:00pm & they took my car immediately. They did a thorough check on my car. Tire pressure, filters and etc & oil change. I personally spoke with Jeremy & he was so nice and informative with cars & the process and such. Greeeeeaaat customer service!!!! Also, the tattooed young guy that helped me, thanks! NOTE: I'm a female who went into a auto shop alone w/out a male, who knows not one thing about a car but putting gas in & driving. Jeremy is the absolute best. My piece of shit car broke down while I was driving up to Santa Barbara from San Diego. I got it towed to Stewart's Auto right as they were closing for the night. Jeremy and his buddy who worked there could have been major a-holes and peaced out ASAP, but instead, Jeremy took a look at my car to give me an idea of what was going on. Turns out the transmission needed to be replaced and the cost to fix it was reasonable, but it was going to cost more than my shitty car was even worth. So I decided to sell my car to one of those fast/cheap car websites that pick up, tow, and pay you on the spot for your heap of junk. Due to the holiday and weekend, I had to wait SIX days, meaning my car was sitting at Stewart's for that long. Stewart's Auto made absolutely ZERO money off of me, but they were still kind enough to NOT charge me a fee to keep my car at their shop in the interim. That's impressive. Also, I accidentally left a very important envelope in my car. I called Jeremy and he checked to make sure the envelope was there. He graciously offered to keep it in the safe at the shop until I could come back and get it. Even though I didn't have any work done on my car, the people at Stewart's (especially Jeremy) are HONEST and DEPENDABLE. I know this based off my many interactions with them regarding what I was going to do with my car. Jeremy's consistently positive attitude and helpfulness went above and beyond the norm. Been taking my car to Stewart's since I arrived to Downey, 11 years ago. Today they told me I needed a catalytic converter, which ran $1,100 for just the part. Told the manager I'd think about it. An hour later, I got a call from the shop, saying they found a place that installed certified used parts and the repair would total $560 (parts, labor, tax). I just needed to call and let them know Stewart's had sent me. What other shop would do that for you? It is nice to have a site where things can be tweaked. Sometimes in life things are written in stone, not so Yelp. Our family has had an association with Stewart's Auto for many years. With an independently owned business there are ebbs and flows in life and good rapport has always existed between our family and the young man of the new generation who is doing such a nice job. When my husband died a few years back I was like a deer in the headlights - running on automatic pilot. My children at home were not old enough to drive and there were times I had no way to or from, depending on which leg of the journey we were looking at. I was never left stranded and they were nice enough to be sure I was taken care of, out of their affection for my husband, me and our children. I wish to say thank you. From the heart- that kind of a thank you, not the kind where we jump out of the vehicle and the quick thank you by me was said. I really do appreciate that help in the transition time of my life. All people are treated with equal respect, whether needing the minimum basics or a more extensive job completed. They do it all and have a dedicated person for the phones, Hillary. Awesome shop. Dropped off my gals Jeep for a heck engine light and rough running engine. While on the flat bed tow truck I discovered we got a little too crazy off-roading due to the wires ripped off from the O2 sensor. Dropped the Jeep off and advised the guys of what I found and the possible need for a tune up since its been awhile. Got a call a from Jeremy who advised me that it was only the O2 sensor and that the plugs were good...no need for a tune up. I appreciate their honesty. Been coming here for Years, was referred by my inlaws, both my husband and i loved bringing our cars here, i even recommended this place 2 all my coworkers and loved it, however ever since Jeremy left the Co. (And no, i am not biast lol) i can honestly say the service doesn't feel the same. He always walked out and greeted us with a smile, walked us into the office and gave us his suggestion, also explained in detail what was going 2 be done 2 the car and why. My 80 CJ5 has been sitting in my garage for a few years. I havn't had the time to tinker with it. I needed a tune up, the turn signal lever was broken, and the brakes were losing pressure. A business associate recommended I vist Stewarts. The garage itself was clean ,organized and secure. The staff looked professional and conducted themselves like they had a purpose. Jeremy was extremely friendly personable, and pleaseant to deal with. He's a solid guy. The work was done in a timely manner. And the CJ performs well. Jeremy did not try to sell me anything. When I explained I was on a tight budget, they only addressed what I needed to have done. The pricing was fair and reasonable . I was extremely satisfied and feel I can trust them to be honest . I went to Stewart's Automotive and got a tune-up. I chose the place because of all the great reviews I read on Yelp. Stewart's Automotive staff was very nice and informative with recommendation for my truck. I paid for their services and was very happy. A couple of hours later I noticed oil leak coming from under my truck. I thought not a good sign. So glad they were open on Saturday. I got up early so I could beat the appointments, and be able to be helped. When I got there and explained about the oil drip they were cool about it, but a little hesitant. The mechanic got my truck up on the lifter for viewing. Honestly, I don't remember all the names but while it was up there they showed me my water pump and indicated that it had a leak. When I saw the dried up leak and it looked like it had been dried up for a while. The mechanic said you really should get a new one. I said, ok can I get an estimate for it? I don't remember the cost, but they were also trying to sell me tires. The up-selling was annoying, and it gave me a bad taste in my mouth. I never went back for the tires and the pump but decided to go to another shop in Downey. I had my new mechanic check out the water pump along with a minor tune-up. My new mechanic stated no you don't need a water pump; your water pump is in great condition. I'm so glad I listened to my inner voice and went somewhere else. It's bad enough to be a woman trying not to get burned with shady businesses. read more
