From the moment we walked in, the hostess made us feel welcome. She did a fabulous job greeting us, making recommendations, and helping us navigate the menu. Our waitress was equally impressive--friendly, efficient, attentive, and genuinely kind throughout our visit. At first glance, some people might overlook Penryn Grill. It's tucked away next to a service station, and many might assume it's just another roadside dive with average food. Nothing could be further from the truth. This place serves high-quality food with outstanding service and a relaxed atmosphere. Following the hostess's recommendations, my wife and I decided to share several of the restaurant's most popular items so we could sample a little bit of everything. The shrimp tacos were absolutely fantastic and completely lived up to the hype. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, they were easily one of the highlights of our meal. Next came the fried pickles, which were our way of testing the waters. They had a crunch similar to fried zucchini but with even more flavor. Add a little ranch dressing and you're in business. Crispy, slightly spicy, and packed with flavor, they hit the palate with a bang. We also ordered the Penryn Burger, made with a delicious short-rib patty and all the fixings. It was juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Another home run. The outdoor patio provided a great setting for lunch, complete with good music and a relaxed atmosphere. It made for an enjoyable afternoon and a memorable dining experience. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent, and we will definitely be back. One final insider tip for my fellow retired folks: Friday afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00 seem to be a great time to stop in. We've heard the fish and chips and chowder are local favorites, and they'll be at the top of our list the next time we visit. Bun too small for the stacks of meat! I ordered the brisket sandwich and it was pretty darn tasty. The sandwich is overloaded with tender slices with a good smoky flavor. The beer selection and service are fine. When in the establishment, it is easy to forget it is attached to a gas station. Outdoor seating with nice fireplaces are available but this time, it was too hot for me. I will likely return to try out other menu items. read more

Penryn Grill is fairly new family owned grill located right next to the 76 station. I saw some posts and thought we should try it out. We went on our way up the I-80. I tried the Shrimp Tacos. I got 3 impressive tacos with large yummy shrimp. The best shrimp tacos in many many years. My husband got Smoked Brisket plate. Excellent. It is a thin (but not too thin) and tender. Has a light amount of BBQ sauce. The option side is Cole slaw but hubby substituted Fries and the fries were very good. They have a large tap selection of beers and option of wine. Today was our first visit to Penryn Grill and it lived up to the good reviews. Great food and service and very reasonable prices! A rarity in today's world, that's for sure. The place feels comfortable, lots of TVs for those who are interested, and super clean!! Our server, Bre 2, couldn't have been better and was not only efficient but informative and really friendly! Chicken was tasty, hot and extra crispy, legit real mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies and a delicious little honey bun too. Great meal for $14! Quesadilla was four big pieces with pico and sour cream. We subbed guac for sour cream, for a minimal charge. Our drinks were a lavender lemonade and a Michelob draft. Both cold and hit the spot on this unseasonably hot day. They make fresh soup every day and will go back to try the clam chowder on their Seafood Friday. Connected to the 76 gas station off Hwy 80 and Penryn sits a charming little restaurant with a lovely outdoor seating area! We were lucky enough to try this place during its opening week. The interior is super cute, and the staff is fantastic! We enjoyed our visit and would love to come back, but we did feel that some things could be improved. We got the deviled eggs, which were delicious, but there were only three on the plate as a starter--you'd think there would be a couple more. The chicken wings were served naked with a side of dipping sauce, but the waitress kindly offered to bring us a bowl to toss them ourselves. At first driving in to a 76 station, we were confused! They did an amazing job with the decor. This place is incredibly comfortable. I think we would describe it as contemporary-rustic in an upscale way. Ashley gave us great suggestions and was very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. She has a delightful personality. The food is absolutely incredible! We tried many of the appetizers. There are several things that are "Fridays only", so I think we will have to come back again very soon. This is truly a hidden gem! We visited on the Tuesday early evening (4:30ish) before Christmas with and had a wonderful experience. Great atmosphere in the main dining/bar area, decorated very nicely for the holidays, and there is cool patio with gas fires. Many screens if you are going to watch sports. Our large group (8) was seated in the corner and we essentially had the place to ourselves. The lady who served us was very helpful and patient with our children and old folks. The menu surprised me in a good way. Several healthy options and a good variety overall. The food itself was awesome. My dad claimed the onion rings were the best he ever had. We stopped in today to try out Penryn Grill based upon some social media posts we had seen. What a delightful treat! Food was delicious and plentiful and the service was amazing, a real rarity these days. Nice selection of beers on tap as well. We sat outside in the beautiful seating area. It was a little chilly so we had the gas heaters turned on and it was perfect! We even met some new friends who shared our table. Our new favorite restaurant in the Loomis/Penryn area. read more
