Here is one I stepped on for proof right inside the dining room area in front of the check stand

Beware everyone!!! Went there for a late night dinner and this place is disgusting. The food was horrible had no flavor. The cook and waitress were very rude. Also, before we got our dinner, we were encountered by some roaches that came from the kitchen area. This place needs to be shut down. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Road Trip Series, Part 38 Greasy Spoon Series, Part 1 Road trips aren't for everyone. I get that. Personally I love them and one of the reasons is planning where to spend the night when you've just had enough driving for one day. That place is neither home nor your desired destination. It's the in-between. The there, but not "there" yet. During our Flagstaff road trip we spent a day in Phoenix, which meant that getting home that night would likely stretch us beyond our safest limits, so we planned a layover before completing the rest of the drive home the following day. It was while arriving at our hotel in Yuma, Arizona, that we noticed a 24-hour diner within walking distance. Oh, yeah. Our agenda for the next morning just became clear: experience "Penny's Diner." From the exterior it appeared to be the quintessential "greasy spoon." Sadly, such places are often overlooked and under appreciated, but I find the charm of an inexpensive diner undeniable. Hold the pretense and just hit me with some comfort food and a side of friendly service! The first things you'll notice when you enter Penny's are the carefully curated 50's music playing, the associated time period memorabilia, and the sizzling of the grill. Ah, ambiance! Inspired by this experience I've decided that if I ever run for city council my campaign platform will include a resolution that all "greasy spoons" located within city limits be required to serve hash browns with every meal. Order of eggs? Your side of hash browns are part of the package. How about oatmeal, a bran muffin, or bowl of cereal? Yep, they all come with a crispy friend. I may need a little help squeezing my campaign slogan onto the yard signs though. "Hash browns with every meal. That's not just common sense...it's the law!" And that's...Henry's Take. #greasyspoon #henry4citycouncil

We went in for a midnight eats fest, if you will. It was just as I remembered it from years ago; a decent sit-down place with the 1950's motif. I've usually have reservations about '50's diner motifs because of what my ethnicity went thru back then, but that's more of a "me" issue! Nevertheless the meals were good, the customer service above par, and I felt relatively safe eating there with my group late at night. Taste for the munchies, in a nostalgic setting? Don't sleep on this diner!

Loved their food. I went the other night and saw roaches running around behind the stove. I had just finished eating. Gross and sad.

    Crispy chicken sandwich. So good

I love this resturant. Soon as I walk in it feels like home.. the food here is wonderful. And every time I come here the servers and cooks are constantly cleaning and prepping. And the atmosphere here is just so welcoming . The music is great and I would come here every day if I could . Great job everyone . You get a 5 star from me

I stop by after the gym to have some breakfast for dinner. Nice old school style dinner. Food was great! The girl with all the tattoos was my waitress and she was nice! I will be back!

I always love going to diners and having a large greasy meal. There is something really patriotic about going into neon and metallic building playing 1950's music and overdosing on calories. And this spot gives me exactly that. I came into this place at night, passing through the area. It's located in a hotel area off the freeway, but mostly served local customers. I sat at the counter, ordered, and got my food promptly. The service, and the patrons, were friendly. I had a big scramble with a big pancake. It was delicious, and enough to feed at least 3 people and a small baby.

    Mmm good

Small location, average service, cold toast and weak coffee. Hash browns were not thoroughly cooked and had to send food back.

No customer service. Newer server has no skills and chooses which customers to serve first. Avoid this place if you actually want to eat.

Bacon cheddar burger was prepared exactly as my wife asked -- bacon crispy, burger well done. Full marks on it. Sweet potato fries were good, too. She'd order this again. Two of three staffers were quite friendly. Overall service was good Needs Improvement Server was not having a good day, seemed like. Not very friendly and I was a bit put off by no apology when I asked for a clean cup -- trace of lipstick on it. Check to see if dish washing was effective. Bottom line is this is one of the better Black Bear diners we've been to. Worth a try.

It was another 15 minutes before the "fish and chips "was brought to the table.. having replaced the french fries with a cup of chili, I checked it to see if it was hot it was!!! Was the coleslaw called?? it was!!! But as I looked at the three planks of fish, my heart sink. Greasy glisten of the tempera like batter concerned me.. the batter was tough and I was unable to cut it with a fork. The tartar sauce was tasty and with a squeeze of lemon on the fish I was delighted to finally have food. I was only able to eat halfway through the first piece of fish before I started peeling away the batter once all three were released from their tough greasy death shrouds... I was able to enjoy about three ounces of fish! The server was attentive and offered a fresh decaf coffee cup to go! I have no idea what was going on at Black Bear last night . Absolutely not what we have experienced previously. The chili was spicy. The coleslaw was fresh.. the 1st cup of decaf was deplorable! Better days ahead I'm hoping !

My girlfriend was supposed to have her car serviced at the dealership today. A wrench was thrown in the works, so the three of us met for breakfast. My boyfriend and I had already had breakfast, so we ordered off the lunch menu. I had a fried chicken sandwich, he had the chicken Caesar wrap. GF got the churro French toast breakfast plate with poached eggs and bacon. The waitress (Caitlin?) didn't pay much attention to our table. When we got our food, the fried chicken breast in the sandwich was lukewarm and she didn't ask about any sauce (ranch, etc) for the onion rings. The lady had to ask for the poached eggs and bacon. Also, she ordered an iced mocha with oat milk and caramel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but nowhere on the menu did it say that oat milk is an additional cost. Caramel was an additional cost. For a puny little iced coffee it ended up being $10. No refills. And we had to ask for ranch. She filled up my boyfriend's water glass and not mine. If it's empty, fill it. It's a hundred and something outside, please make sure all your guests are hydrated. The bill was $70. The lunches were extremely overpriced for what we got, to be honest. I know that prices have gone up and that inflation is a thing. I get that, I really do. The chicken sandwich was definitely not worth $15 and although the onion rings were good (and I'm thankful we weren't charged extra for them), it was still a letdown. This was akin to a $12 combo meal at a fast food joint. The first time I was here was a couple months ago. I had ordered the Denver omelette and when the waitress came out, she brought the wrong omelette ,(the three meat) out and didn't even try to correct her mistake even AFTER I had said it was wrong. That waitress was also inattentive and ignored us for the majority of our meal. We don't eat out a whole lot so it's a treat when we do. Less of a treat to receive subpar, overpriced food and subpar service. Sorry.

Yep it's back by popular demand but it's now called egg in a nest. What the heck? Anyway every one ordered something different and we ate to our hearts content and had no complaints whatsoever about the food, the ambiance or the cleanliness. Chicken fried chicken dinner evaporated from his plate. The burger and onion petals seemed to have delighted the nephew. One of the ladies in our party seemed happy with her chicken strips, which were more than abundant! Another ordered a diet plate of some sort with cottage cheese and sliced tomatoes and was especially happy. A new item on the menu appealed to another. Louisiana shrimp skillet. Was flavorful, and those who tasted the nice portion of shrimp agreed that it was surprisingly delicious. The side, dishes of okra, and greens are always favorites. All of us commented on the new menu. Although we missed the old format, this one is easier to hold, and the print is bold enough that you're not needing to use your flashlight if you're older like we are. We are thankful that the menu has the old favorites, something new and that Cracker Barrel values its customers. It's such a nice thing to be able to travel and dine at any location and feel like your unfamiliar surroundings. But I wonder why is that there are so many locals who freely admit that they have never yet dined here? One maintenance issue... the latch on the ladies handicap stall door is STILL needing to be fixed! One issue with our visit. Not once were we offered refills on beverages.
