The Good: Tasty California burger (avocado+Monterey Jack cheese) with special sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion, side of onion rings. Lacked a little seasoning but I'd order this again. Bacon cheddar burger was prepared exactly as my wife asked -- bacon crispy, burger well done. Full marks on it. Sweet potato fries were good, too. She'd order this again. Two of three staffers were quite friendly. Overall service was good Needs Improvement Server was not having a good day, seemed like. Not very friendly and I was a bit put off by no apology when I asked for a clean cup -- trace of lipstick on it. Check to see if dish washing was effective. Bottom line is this is one of the better Black Bear diners we've been to. Worth a try. read more

Once 30 minutes had passed, and my dinner was not at the table when the waitress stopped by to tell me, it wouldn't be long. I asked for a biscuit. Thank God. It was another 15 minutes before the "fish and chips "was brought to the table.. having replaced the french fries with a cup of chili, I checked it to see if it was hot it was!!! Was the coleslaw called?? it was!!! But as I looked at the three planks of fish, my heart sink. Greasy glisten of the tempera like batter concerned me.. the batter was tough and I was unable to cut it with a fork. The tartar sauce was tasty and with a squeeze of lemon on the fish I was delighted to finally have food. I was only able to eat halfway through the first piece of fish before I started peeling away the batter once all three were released from their tough greasy death shrouds... I was able to enjoy about three ounces of fish! The server was attentive and offered a fresh decaf coffee cup to go! I have no idea what was going on at Black Bear last night . For my birthday we went to get my Bday gift, ordered a CHICKEN FRIED STEAK For hubby and took awhile to get it so finally got it it looked so bad, it looked VERY DRY & GRAVY NASTY. Easy parking. It was packed on a Sunday afternoon but we got a table within 10 minutes. I liked the chicken fried steak. I'll add a photo. I also liked their huge biscuits and gravy. I wish it was sausage gravy but it is just a good white gravy no sausage. But you can get some on the side. It's huge and we all shared from it. The chicken fried steak was good n crispy. First of all the food was great. Took way too long to receive it due to kitchen staff training so the server said. Ok, that's understandable. The server on the other hand was one of the worst. Major attitude problem and when you ask for something you get the body language and eye rolling. Mind you, as she travels back and forth by your table, she never looks at the table or asks how are things. We asked for to go boxes and she got even more irritated. So, CORINA maybe you should relocate away from customers like the back of the house doing anything away from the customers. You are a terrible server! They won't adjust it to make the customers comfortable after several patrons requested a change. Stop by this place on our way back home from the river because we love black bear diner for their breakfast! Thought we try their dinner out. When you first walk in , even though they only had 4 tables it took them awhile to seat us. Then when we did get seated it took forever for us to get our food. Service was so slow! For the amount of people on the floor it should not be like this. Turkey lacked a lot of flavor. Felt like it came out of a can. Kept on asking for a refill for water and our drink. Had to wait to be seated as no host was available. Got coffee right away but that was the only thing that went well. Sitting at the counter should be fine, but after 10 minutes I flagged down the manager to ask if someone could take my order (everyone else just kept going). He took it and although the order came in a reasonable amount of time, the eggs were under cooked, couldn't tell anyone since they didn't check back or stop to see what I was waving about. Had the friendliest experience this past weekend. Stopped in here kind of late to just have some pie. Our waitress was so nice. We opted for the apple cobbler and the banana cream pie.
