ATTN: Penny Hotel Team, Absolutely incredible! We stayed at The Penny for the first time this past week and it was everything we could have dreamed of for our wedding and more! The staff was understanding, kind, patient, and flexible. The food at the rooftop was so tasty, I highly recommend doing room service. The rooms are intimate, clean and have all the amenities one would need for a stay. Restaurants, bars and the train station are within walking distance, which makes it all the more accessible. As an actual New Yorker, this hotel in the heart of Williamsburg is ideal for a visit. There is also a terrace on the 1st and 2nd floor. Looking forward to returning in the future. read more

This is our second stay here, and honestly, the room itself is what keeps me coming back. It's small but efficient, clean, and I genuinely like the Dusen Dusen design touches -- it's one of the few hotels in the area that doesn't feel generic. That said, the amenities could use some TLC. They give you loose coffee grounds, but who knows how fresh they are, and there were only two bags of tea... both looking a little past their prime. You can hear the highway, but it's still quieter than staying at the Moxy on the other side of Williamsburg where the train overhead and hallway noise never let up. Since we have pets, they've put us in the back of the hotel both times, which definitely feels like a pattern. Parking is inconvenient and not attached to the building. And the destination fee -- for what, exactly? It feels unnecessary and a little insulting, especially considering the location is just okay at best, basically under the BQE. read more

Suite Review This hotel is super chic from the outside and lobby. We went to visit friends staying in the suite and it was such a lovely room that offered a HUGE outside patio with chairs. The inside offered 2 bathrooms, a bedroom, a full kitchen, and a living room and dining area. Oh and if you go to the bar on the top floor, you could see the lights from the trade tower memorial perfectly. The bar was hopping! Oh and this hotel is pet-friendly so it is great for dog watching. This was perfect for a pre-wedding family gathering. Honestly, the only thing that I think they could improve on is the "chic bathrooms" with the see-through doors. read more

I've stayed at this hotel so many times over the years and have written a previous review... it's just so thoughtfully curated at the Penny Williamsburg... every detail is attended to, tea and coffee, oranges, water bottle with filter water in the hallway, local art everywhere, including the oversized windows with views from all the rooms... the outside is art too! One more detail I missed last time, if you are carrying your coffee and trying to open your door, there's a ledge right by the door at your disposal to rest your coffee AND open the door without a spill Finally, that rooftop bar/restaurant has epic east river views, that never get old. read more

Stayed here for our birthday celebration in Brooklyn as did a lot of our family and friends and I truly could not recommend the hotel more. The staff is the kindest, most helpful staff I've ever experienced at a hotel. The area is cute and has a lot to do in walking distance. The rooms are clean and beautiful. We had an incredible time at the Penny Hotel celebrating our friend's birthday. There were 14 of us and the hotel set us up in Suite 208 and a number of other rooms. All were spotless, colorfully decorated, and welcoming. In particular Suite 208 makes an ideal spot for a group gathering. It includes a large living and dining room, full kitchen and primary suite plus second bathroom. Our friends had the connecting room. El Nico's was a nice launch pad for our evenings out. The bartenders make a great martini. The hotel is centrally located to all of the awesome shops and restaurants in Williamsburg, including Amercord and the biergarten. I highly recommend this hotel for a getaway to Brooklyn or NYC! read more

The place was super cute and so unique!! The room was small in terms of square feet but felt so comfortable and cozy because the design and details were incredible. Seriously. Stay here. You will not regret it. The front desk was super warm and accommodating in every interaction we had. The rooftop restaurant was beautiful and such tasty food and drinks. Perfect for a special night out. If I ever come back to visit Brooklyn, this is the only place I ever want to stay! I wanted to purchase half of the design elements ... the hooks and the robes hanging on them were so cool.. want them for my own home. Word to the wise, if you use their cute pink umbrellas on a rainy day there - don't let them out of your sight- ours got swiped. read more

We loved our one night stay at the Penny! The hotel staff was incredibly accommodating and attentive to our needs from the moment we got there. Special shoutout to Caitlin, one of the managers. I loved the aesthetic of the rooms and the restaurant upstairs, and room was spacious for NYC. The location is walkable if you'd like to explore Williamsburg or take the subway to Manhattan. My one-night stay at the Penny exceeded all expectations. The rooms, while compact, are thoughtfully designed with a charming aesthetic that captures the essence of NYC living. The kitchenette was a standout feature--two sinks in a hotel room was a pleasant surprise, along with the convenient refrigerator, microwave, and electric kettle. The pour-over coffee added a nice touch, perfect for starting the day! Had a bit of a wait to check in while another couple reclaimed their bags from being held but it was fine. It was on me as I was trying to dump my bags and get back out toa store before it closed. Over all the hotel staff was accommodating and attentive with a smile. The hotel's restaurant upstairs offered a delightful dining experience and added to the overall convenience and ambiance of the stay. I loved this hotel, the location and just the well designed room. TIP- Read all the notes on the cork board, I didn't know until it was too late I could have grabbed a bike . I look forward to returning to the Penny for another memorable stay in the heart of the city. read more

The 1 star is solely for location and the room itself. I would give 5 stars if the manager Caitlyn, or however her name is spelled, didn't have such a nasty disposition. I left my hotel room at 830/9am and came back just before 5pm with my room still not turned over. There's no reason why that should be the case. It's very clear that the hotel isn't fully booked and check out is at 11am with the late checkout being at noon so why is it if I come back at 5 that my room is not back to its original state? So when I noticed this, the cleaning staff were in the hallway and I explained to them the issue. They then asked for a moment and said they would clean my room right away. During that time, I went downstairs to tell the front desk and as I was explaining to them the issue, Caitlyn, the supposed manager, was incredibly nonchalant and gave off a mood as if she really didn't give a f***. And after a long day (practically an 8hr shift) of exploring the city, all I wanna do is shower and lay down. So it's one thing for the room to not be clean but then for me to express my disdain and you're the manager and acting like you don't care - that's not cool. Further, I let little miss Caitlyn know that I did not appreciate her tone and as someone who has worked in customer service, there are ways that you should speak to customers; certain tones, the things you say, your body language etc. Take Chick Fil A for example! They speak to their customers with so much care. Caitlyn could certainly take a class or ten from their customer service team. This experience with her has made me rethink staying at this hotel again. This is my second time staying here and Caitlyn left such a bad taste in my mouth that it may be the very last!! It's a shame that I have spent so much money at this hotel all for one nonchalant, careless and apathetic "manager" to ruin it and act like my money here isn't valuable. Finally, when I went back downstairs to get had name, her coworker TJ had a gross disposition as well and behaved like he didn't want to give me her name. I will be making sure that I call all the numbers and send all the emails so that management knows how their employees treated a paying guest. Oh and I came back to add that hotel cleaning staff said that they had been so busy with cleaning rooms all day but when I asked them about cleaning my room, it took them less than 5 minutes. So how much cleaning are yall really doing???????? I was gone for 8-9 hours and now all of a sudden, my room is clean in 5 minutes?! That's a bunch of BS. You cutting corners. read more

Stayed here while in town for work. I've stayed at other hotels in Williamsburg that were very claustrophobic but I didn't feel that way at The Penny. The rooms were thoughtfully laid out with all the amenities you could need (coffee maker, microwave and fridge). I'd love to check out their restaurant and borrow bikes the next time I stay there! Staff was lovely - helped with early check in and held our bags for a few hours after we checked out so that we could get breakfast nearby. Definitely good value for the money and closeby to everything you could need. read more

When we got back from our trip last week, I posted a rave review of Penny Williamsburg. The hotel was beauitful, staff friendly, and location superb. Granted the room was definitely cramped but it's what I'd expect in the area. So, why the 2 stars? When we returned, we noticed two charges on our card. One for a little over $100 and the other for $250ish. We called to inquire. The first one they said was the $87 'destination fee' we were charged for booking with a third party, hotels.com (plus some breakfast tacos we got). They said we wouldn't have had to pay that had we booked directly with them. It seems a bit shady to be undermining their partnership with hotels.com like that but I guess businesses are gunna business. The second is where it gets bad. They can't find the charge at all in their system and seemed to think that was the a sufficient response to letting the charge sit on our card. They said it could be a hold (although I know the hold was for $300 so this charge is not the same amount). They said they'd follow-up the same day... and never did. We called the hotel again and did not get an answer. It very much feels like they don't really care about the mystery charge. So, we've followed up with our credit card company and now it's in a whole claims process with is SO not what we need right now. It's just so disappointing because we liked the hotel but wouldn't stay again knowing they don't take their guests' credit card charges very seriously. read more

My partner and I have business in town and wanted to stay in Brooklyn for the weekend. The Penny rooms are nicely appointed, cute and, albeit small, still very accommodating for NYC. I love the kitchenette (2 sinks in a hotel room is clutch!); the refrigerator; microwave; electric kettle; and the pour over coffee. I love being able to order great food (we had an amazing dinner at El Nico, which is their rooftop restaurant) and we had leftovers and heated them up next day in the microwave. Really makes you feel like you have a home away from home when you can prep and store food. The bed is comfortable (we lounged, watching Netflix, which we cast to the TV). The location is accessible to the L train, and in a really cool part of Williamsburg. On this stay, the staff was kind and helpful, opening the doors for us. Arthur, who was our bartender/server at El Nico, was top-notch, giving us great recommendations for food and drink, and having the perfect amount of interaction, so we felt constantly cared for, but never overwhelmed. Additionally, special shout out to Fady, who worked to make our stay enjoyable and made us look forward to patronizing the hotel in the future. read more

Our stay was memorable, with a quirky ambiance and amenities that set this hotel apart from others. Definitely not a cookie cutter place. Our room had a nice bathroom, a small kitchenette, with a loaner robe (from, I suspect, from the MoMA gift shop) and a folding umbrella in case we needed one. A subway station was about three blocks away, and although the neighborhood wasn't upper-crust it was pleasant and quiet, and felt safe. The staff were helpful and kind, and the rooftop bar was lovely. The flag out front made it easier to find. read more

I just returned from a few days at the Penny to celebrate my birthday. I really enjoyed myself and plan on returning next time I head to Brooklyn. The price was affordable, the room was clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I was a solo traveler so I found the room the perfect size for myself. The room is definitely small by normal hotel standards but (a) this is New York and why would you need to spend a ton of time in the room? (b) it was priced well enough that I thought it was very fair. I loved the restaurant upstairs and that they had a service that could run snacks to your room. It's located in a nice neighborhood and very close to the subway. Can't wait to plan my next trip! read more

I really liked my stay. My room was small, but it was super cute. I had a huge window with a view, central air and heat. The shower was nice. Location is a few blocks from Bedford Ave and the L train a huge plus and made it easy to run around Manhattan and come back to Williamsburg to rest. Bedford Ave has everything including a Whole Foods and since my room had a mini kitchenette with a microwave it was easy to warm things up. I asked for a 2nd comforter and was super warm and cozy. They even give you slippers and a robe. I didn't need to use the pour over coffee since they have coffee and good creamer every morning in the lobby. (good quality) They have the standard things like a hair dryer. The products were really good quality and I am very picky so I didn't even need to use the hand lotion I brought. Kudos for getting good product. The restaurant upstairs has panoramic views and is pretty fancy. I didn't end up eating there only because of a busy schedule it was halloween week. Check in and check out were pretty easy. My only gripe was some the towels were dirty, but they brought up new ones. The hotel is really cute and I liked the vibe. They also sell pastries and other things downstairs, but Bedford Ave has so many coffee shops and stores I didn't really need to purchase anything. Also their number is on their site and I was able to get a hold of someone to answer questions prior to arrival. No issues getting dropped off by Lyft in front of the hotel or getting picked up to go to the airport. I think they let you keep your bags if a person doesn't have a later pick up the timing ended up working out so it wasn't needed. Having a good quality pot for boiling water was great for me since I made tea often they also provide tea bags. My room was fairly quiet. I didn't want to leave to come back to my house I felt so comfortable there. I normally stay in airbnb and this turned out to be even cheaper. It was a no brainer for me. They did add on the hospitality fees or whatever they are called it only was 60 bucks and I was there for 4 days so it wasn't too brutal. I was pretty comfortable and will be back. BEWARE! Very very slimy hotel staff & overall poor quality hotel. Upon arrival, our sheets had a gigantic tear in them, we requested new ones which one took over an hour to get. After getting the second set, they were stained on multiple spots causing us to request ANOTHER set. This set we didn't receive til over 6+ hours late as we had to call back and request them again. Surprisingly enough, it took another hour to get our final set of sheets. To our shocking surprise, the third set had a crusty substance on it in addition to MORE TEARS. After giving up on the sheets, we noticed the bathroom water had a white fog to it. If you fill a cup it was actually murky, just disgusting. After checking out, they were kind enough to give us a $30 discount for the trouble which I was fine with and not even expecting to be honest. Well that slightly better feeling lasted all of 12 hours before I realized THEY CHARGED ME $165 FOR A MISSING KETTLE?????!?!? After multiple explanations of how we didn't even know there was a kettle to begin with, why would we take something we'd know we'd get charged for, etc. they just kept giving a cookie cutter response stating "we found that your guest room was missing said amenity." I'm not sure what It takes to get through to these people but obviously they have a poor & even shady staff who treat their guests as 2nd priority. DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING. Lovely new hotel in Williamsburg! Quiet, decent sized rooms for NYC. Great residential street location -- close enough to walk to everything but not in the center of it all. Tastefully decorated, cute pour over coffee kits in the room. My only note is WiFi kept going out, but I think this wasn't an issue specific to the hotel and it was resolved quickly in each instance. Definitely worth checking out as it's a terrific addition to the neighborhood! read more

Room and bathroom were nice and clean and a welcome change from cookie cutter hotels. Staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The deck on the 11th floor had great views, but the food choices were quite limited and an odd selection of really highly priced dishes, $18 mixed drinks (!), and one or two affordable appetizers. We would've used it more if it was more reasonable. Fan in the bathroom did not work. Close to subway and restaurants, with a small grocery around the corner. Last thing but quite significant: we reserved a kitchenette and if that was it, I'd say that was false advertising. A microwave, sink and fridge does not constitute a kitchenette. We had to ask for dishes and silverware and were provided with 'disposable' plastic about a half hour later. Otherwise, I would recommend and would stay again. read more

Everything was great except the horrible blonde "manager" who wouldn't give me the time of day. I stayed 4 nights over the course of two weeks (on my way from California to France and back...I prefer to stop in New York each way and see friends rather than deal with layovers). *****WOC, don't bother with her. All the other staff, including the general manager, were lovely and it's great to have a new option for lodging in Brooklyn. Front door staff REALLY nice, rooms are stylish and clean and the artwork all around is cute. I really wanted to give it all the stars bc they're brand new. That said, there was construction the entirety of our stay, which we were not warned of ahead of time. When we complained we were graciously moved and told the jackhammering would end by a certain time and day. The construction continued. My partner and I needed a space to work in (audio engineer! and psychotherapist) but had to take the days off and cancel our appointments bc too loud. Lost a lot of $ in client fees. We checked out early and were never again contacted by director of operations to give a reasonable discount. Bummer. read more
