Be advised when renting here: I've received more than two generic templated emails with new lease agreements and drastic rate increases in less than a year. You have no choice but to sign, pay and then cancel the agreement and find another storage unit. They don't have the courtesy to let customers know of the price increase AHEAD OF TIME. As soon as I can, I'm moving my belongings out of here. I've emailed and left a voicemail and received no return call or email. The price isn't worth it, and the gate is always broken. The first time I used their on line payment system my card was compromised. I concluded that I should pay with a monthly check. I paid my rent monthly without fail and sometimes my payment arrived late. The postal service back log during the election. They charged me a $60 late fee... stating that prior Payment was late too. I asked them why $60 dollars and the lady said they tack on for every day that one is late. 3 or 5 days? Also, when I had called about my credit card being compromised, I got a call back from a private number in Southern California. There is something very sketchy about this place. Moved out! Moved my stuff to Public Storage and they are always available and courteous. Peninsula Storage, if you have a question, you have to leave it on their answering machine and wait for a callback. At the new place, Public Storage, I used their automatic payment system and felt good about it because it is secured by Norton. The people at Public Storage are also incredibly professional and always available. You can rely on the level of safety at Public Storage. I do not recommend Peninsula storage. This was my first experience renting storage units. I rented 2 large units as we sold my mom's large home of 50 years. I spent many hours on site going through items and did a final auction with the remaining items. I always felt safe being there with so much security. It was always clean. There were hand carts always available and a clean bathroom to use. Javier and his staff were always so pleasant to work with, were extremely efficient, thorough, and went above and beyond. I had my units for about a year. I highly recommend this facility and would definately use them again. read more

I wrote a review of 1 star when I experienced the facility closed on Easter Sunday. I didn't realize that it was in the lease agreement that Peninsula Storage would be closed on a few holidays; I feel I over reacted. The staff is very pleasant. The facility is clean. My one complaint was that they closed for holidays when I didn't think that was necessary. The Facility Manager, Teri, reached out to me with concern and graciousness, so I do think Peninsula Storage is a very good choice. I was there for more than six years before I moved east. We had to move my Mother from her apartment, virtually, due to COVID19 we couldn't be there in person to oversee the move.Javier and his team made sure the movers got everything done. I'll give them two stars simply because the people were nice and the place was clean. Now, why am I removing three stars from their score- let's start off with the fact that if you do your homework, there are coupons for 40% off select units, free locks and the price on-line starts at 1/3 of what they actually charge you if you walk in the door. They also offer a free truck at move-in...that was not offered. Best of all,when you read the gate sign that states gate hours are 7AM - 7PM, that means at 7:01PM, you are trapped. Yes, trapped and if you call their number, they don't call back - all you can do is leave the moving van parked and walk. Run...run...run far away from this place. read more

I've just gotten a notice in the mail that they are increasing my rent up to $399/month because "the promotional rate ended". *** This is a over 3x increase over the advertised price on the website ***, and NO mention of this, even in the fine print. This is also in addition to the initial misleading I mentioned in the first review. I too just transferred my storage (mostly memorabilia from 20 years and 3 active children!) to Peninsula Storage and am so happy I made the switch from my former storage place. What sold me, first, is the beautiful landscaping with flowers and absolutely pristine facility. It is perfectly neat and clean. The second thing that sold me was the friendly greeting at the attractive front office (plus the fact that you can purchase all kinds of moving boxes right there). The third thing that sold me--aside from the fact that they had the unit size I wanted, immediately available--was the great convenience of a unit where you can drive right up, unload your stuff, and drive out--12 hours a day, 7 days a week (gate hours are 7 to 7 everyday; the office hours are listed above). Finally, the place seems quite secure and is easy to get to (off Rengstorff at 101, across the street from Costco) Definitely this place deserves its rave reviews. It is a bit more expensive than my last place but all of the qualities listed above make it worthwhile. read more

This is my first time ever dealing with a storage place, but these guys have been awesome. I ended up needing a storage place some what short notice and found that these guys had a very good deal! When I arrived with my U-Haul, I found the staff very helpful and accommodating. I didn't have that much stuff: a futon that's been taken apart, a disassembled table, and a few small cases - the 5X5 room was perfect for this. I was given all the tools i needed to get all my stuff up to the storage room at no extra charge! The only thing I had to buy was a lock - and that was only a few dollars. You can bring your own lock, obviously, and save on this. Overall: great, neat place, helpful staff and everything you need to store your stuff! Highly recommended! read more

I've now moved my stuff out into my new apartment. I felt that I had a good experience overall, and I would probably use PSC again if I had the need. However, I removed one star because there was a problem with mice. There were mouse droppings all over the tops of my stuff, and they had gnawed into the cardboard box containing my books. I did see some rat poison traps laid out, so maybe the problem has been dealt with at this point, but it was a bit disgusting at the time. read more

I have been waiting outside this place for 2 hours. So far 7 customers including the U.S. Mail service have come and left because they are closed and are supposed to be open. Imagine if you were the owner? Uhaul books this place as a 3 Ed party so you are helpless if stuff like this happens. The woman I talked to earlier said they "come and go a lot" and Id need to let her know when exactly I would be here. What????? Seriously????? I'd rate this place a negative 5 but the lowest I can rate is a 1. If you aren't open, you are useless. I posted a formal complaint with uhaul And now on here. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. I've wasted 3 hours so far waiting for a business to open that states 9-6 as their hours of operation. I had an overall great experience with Peninsula Storage. They are by far the best in terms of quality and security of the facilities in the area and, while the price is higher, I thought it was worth it to keep your belongings safe. They were also accommodating when I required special support when moving out. During an initial confusion with the terms of my final payment, Javier, the property manager, stepped up and resolved the issue quickly. Overall I highly recommend Peninsula Storage and I will certainly use them again. read more

I've been at the unit late before and seen the team doing their end of night rounds. I've also seen the staff here come out of the office to check the identity of anyone drives through the open gate behind you before the gate has a chance to close. I'm writing this review based on the office staff primarily. I've been going to this location for a couple of years and mainly for the convenience of the post office/shipping since I mail out packages weekly. Every time I walk in no matter who the staff is on duty (several females) they are sitting down and make you feel like it is a bother to get up from their comfortable seats to wait on you and walk over 10 feet to the mailing center. These people give the impression that they do not like their jobs and it is reflective in the lack of customer service even simple smiles, hello and thank you, which never happens either. I have been in various positions of management and customer service for many years and if I was the manager of this complex I would hire a new staff and give them customer service training. Once I even walked through the door with holiday packages at 2:04 on a Saturday (the office is open until 4:00, but close the mailing at 2:00) and again was given attitude when I asked if they could please mail the package, I'd pay extra to get it there by Christmas. The answer was no we close at 2:00, while sitting in their seats, no I'm sorry I wish I could help, etc. I generally wait to write reviews, knowing someone can have a bad day. But, the lack of cordial friendliness and a thank you on many occasions from this office even made me go to a less convenient storage location recently to rent 4 storage units. Mainly due to I didn't want to have to deal with their office staff on a regular basis. read more

Peninsula Storage is the Rolls Royce of storage facilities. The staff are the best. The facility couldn't be cleaner or better managed. The security systems are evident and effective. Always ask about promotions on available units. Recently, I was able to double the size of my unit for a year at the same price as my current unit. Yes, that means I'll pay more in a year but the increase will also serve to motivate me to reduce the clutter I have in my primary residence to make room to bring more possessions back home. My PS unit was needed for overflow while I get my clutter-bug act together at home. I'm probably like a lot of people. read more

1. Fabulous registering and paperwork process for a couple new storage units. The software app they use within their lease is very productive and helpful for not only the staff but also we, clients. 2. Great, friendly staff and manager (Teri). 3. It was very useful to be able to find two units basically next to one another and while also being near the bathroom. If you have ever downsized, clean swept, and/or reorganized a medium to large storage unit, then you know how important being near a bathroom can be. 4. Payment for the units has been a breeze thus far. 5. The no trash cans is a negative, but it is something that I can live without. 6. They offer additional services that can be very useful. 7. One negative for me is them closing up at 9pm instead of the 10pm I got used to from a former storage facility - along with their apparent closing up extra early on holidays. read more

I have used this storage facility for 4 years now since my daughter is a student nearby. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the clean facilities and the excellent customer service. There was even a recent challenge I had related to billing (that ended up being a mistake on my part) and they went above and beyond to resolve the issue for me. Got there today to find out that the space listed at $64.95 was actually $159. The guy at the desk say that the web listing only applies to selected units but their site does not say this. Take a look at the TREND in these reviews and understand that Peninsula Storage has clearly gone down hill (eg. 2009 to present). However, if for some reason you'd prefer to take your chances and rent a unit here, please consider the following: 1) They have been known to raise their rates quite dramatically and with relatively little forewarning (ex. mine more than DOUBLED within the span of just over a month's time) - FACT. 2) The gate hours are 7AM - 7PM and somewhat inconvenient compared to nearby Extra Space Storage (6AM - 10PM) and Public Storage (6AM - 9PM) facilities - FACT. 3) On several occasions, I visited the office in order to either pay my bill or raise a concern only to find the staff had left for the day... well before the stated closing time (* a point reiterated by other customers) - FACT. 4) Soon after moving in, I discovered small "debris" all over my boxes, furniture etc. (including tiny pebbles, dirt and dust). I spoke to a passing employee and he mentioned that in order to keep the driving lanes clean and free of debris(?), they "sweep" the facility by way of those backpack, gas-powered BLOWERS. This unfortunately resulted in crud being blown up and into my unit (defeating in many ways my reason for storing my valuables in the first place) - FACT. 5) Upon abruptly moving out of my unit, soon after receiving a letter detailing the above mentioned MORE THAN DOUBLING of my rent, I requested the approx. 1/2 month's remaining rent be paid back to me. The staff directed me to fill in a prorated funds request form promised to be reviewed by the manager who was off-site at the time. Several days passed and so I called to check up on the status of my request. The manager said that no such rental funds return policy exists and she couldn't fathom why her staff had even suggested that I fill in a petition form (* a document that apparently exists for no apparent reason) After a few moments of utterly useful back and forth, I ended our conversation clearly feeling as if I should have felt 'blessed' to have secured a good rate for the time that I did and it was somehow the benevolence of the management that had allowed me to pay such a good rate for as long as I did. - FACT. Though I'll be the first to admit that my experience may have been unique, and the eerily similar experiences of all the other 1 and 2 star reviewers are therefore simply an unfortunate anomaly, I'd like to suggest the following to anyone in need of a storage facility in the Mt. View, CA are: 1) Shop around! As mentioned above, there are all kinds of options nearby, including Extra Space and Public Storage (* For the record: I DO NOT work for either of these facilities nor any storage company whatsoever) 2) Look for DEAL$, including % discounts and first month's free. (* Search Google for coupon codes and try retailmenot.com etc) 3) If you MUST sign on with this facility, be sure to READ THE FINE PRINT, ask about anticipated rate increases and how much forewarning you can expect, COVER your valuables (* see 'debris' statements above), don't expect the office to be open within a 1/2 hour of closing and DON'T PAY your last month's rent if you decide to leave well before the end of the month (eg. 1st - 15th). *** Because PSC sees no need to cater to customers who are on their way out, by returning any portion of their unused rent, I'd suggest letting your last month's rent LAPSE and paying only what is due on the day you move out (eg. the prorated, daily amount X # days into the last month + a late fee). Granted this may not "fly" and you may be in for a fight, but it's certainly worth a try when faced with an increasingly unconcerned and ridiculously unresponsive organization. In my humble opinion, owning/operating a storage facility is not unlike watching paint dry or the grass grow (aka. really boring and really easy). When a company either fails to deliver the level of service you demand or has the audacity to effectively drive you out by way of a sudden, substantial increase in rent, you do what I did, you vote with your wallet and you LEAVE. read more

Well in legal terms this is called bait and switch... advertised prices online are "From $64.95" but what they fail to tell you is this is the first month only and then it's $159 per month after that. $159?! are you kidding me?? I moved my stuff out a little while ago and I wanted to update my review. They are AWESOME!! I put my stuff in Storage as I was waiting for my new job to start. It kept getting delayed and delayed. Peninsula Storage was SO understanding and flexible. I kept extending my storage week by week. I explained my situation and they told me to relax - my stuff would be safe - and to just come by when I needed to. Also, when the day arrived for me to move out, they were so helpful to me and the movers. They made sure the mover could get in and out of the area. Jennifer and Teri are great! This facility is clean, secure, and affordable. My friends and I are storing for the summer and were able to pay up front for the entirety. They also do a revolving month based on when you move in rather than the first of the month. In short, I will absolutely be coming back every summer. Great for students! read more
