What began as a pandemic-time pop-up has since transitioned into a San Gabriel brick-and-mortar. Ish has garnered recognition from Vogue, the LA Times, and Thrillist, particularly for the one-of-a-kind, Filipino-ish pies and eye-catching purple pancakes; now, it's one of the trendiest bakeries in Greater Los Angeles. BWI has a stall in the Blossom Market Hall. Briefly, this premium San Gabriel food hall (opened in a former Masonic lodge) hosts two rooms of fast-casual food and beverages, broadly with a pan-Asian bent. The rainbow mosaic mural in the main room is almost pretty enough to make you forget the weak AC. Chatter from customers overwhelms the pop playlist. BWI just took over a larger stall in the main market space. The red-and-white logo and "menu board" offer a hint into the food lineup -- peek into the all-glass pastry case and pick what sounds good. Sometimes, the pies are in hiding, so don't be afraid to ask if any slices are available. The rotating pastry menu is a crapshoot. But if they're available, you must try one of the ube-infused pies. I loved the Ube Bananoffee Pie. This Filipino spin on bananoffee pie infused ube into its thick layer of dulce de leche, while otherwise executing the other components at a high level. The dynamic array of textures and flavors culminated in one of the region's best desserts, full stop. Meanwhile, the Blue Corn Mochi Pancakes were next level. The springy texture was addictive, and the sweet-and-salty combo of ube flan cream and flaky sea salt was a match made in heaven. Each enormous hotcake boasted the same diameter as one of Ish's full pies, so with two pancakes to an order, you could reasonably satisfy 4 hungry bellies. Other baked goods have been more hit-or-miss. For example, the Ube, Matcha, Black Sesame Bun (somewhere between a cinnamon roll and a sticky bun) paired airy, brioche-esque bread with a matcha-forward paste, but it otherwise felt like it was missing a syrupy sweetness. The service has always been efficient (don't be surprised if Ish himself gives you tips for how to best reheat a treat at home), and the baked goods range from $4 for cookies to $10 for pie slices to $17 for the pancake stack. While not every item has been a hit, the pies are reason alone to visit and pay a premium -- just make sure they're in stock!

There is a hot case which you can see what is being cooled down. The smell is always amazing. The bread loaves are great. The cakes are good, not overly sweet too.
