I noticed this restaurant on my way to another restaurant in Chinatown. Growing up in New York, going to Chinatown to get Peking Duck was a treat for special occasions. Seeing the sign made me nostalgic. I decided to try it out at lunch time. The Peking Duck was too expensive for me to feel comfortable putting it on my expense account. I ended up getting the Prawns in Hot Spicy Sauce. The Prawns were in a sauce full of onions, green onions, ginger, and garlic that had been thickened with cornstarch. The prawns were large and tasted fresh. The dish came with steamed white rice which served as a great base. The decor was quite upscale. All the tables had linen tablecloths and napkins. A really easy spot to miss, Peking Duck House is a must try for anyone looking for some delicious Peking duck! The exterior is a bit shoddy but inside is a really spacious and nice restaurant with ample seating. It does get busy around the evenings, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. The Peking Duck dinner is $59 per person for half a duck, soup, a variety of appetizers, any entree on the menu, fried rice, and fresh fruit. I loved the Shrimp Sizzling Rice soup over the Wonton soup. I felt it had a lot more flavor and was just better overall. Of course, the Wonton soup was good but not anything remarkable. The apps include Chicken with Pinenut in a lettuce cup, BBQ Beef, a Spring Roll, and a steamed Vegetable Dumpling. You get one piece of each - I liked the Chicken and the Beef, especially the latter, which was well made and tender with tons of flavor. The roll and dumpling were average but still good. Finally, the Duck! It was carved tableside, which was a nice touch. The Peking Duck came with hoisin sauce, celery and cucumbers, and crepes to wrap it in. It was so delicious - very crispy yet tender and juicy and succulent. It paired well with the sauce, cucumbers, and crepe. My only qualm is the portion - I felt it was a small amount for the price and for two people to share. For our entree, we got the Crispy Duck, which was also delicious but 2nd to the Peking Duck. The Crispy Duck was cripsy but a bit on the saltier side, which I didn't like. Lastly, the fruits that we got for dessert was my least favorite. It was clear that the fruit wasn't fresh as the cantaloupe looked soggy and the kiwi looked dry - honestly, I would have preferred no dessert than the fruits. Overall, this was a good spot for Peking Duck, although it is on the pricey side. It's a really nice and clean spot and can accommodate large parties. Came here just for duck and it was OK. Slightly above average if that but overall nothing crazy Extremely small dining but that's normal. They do a table side duck carving which is fancy. The duck itself was moist and slightly crispy skin a great amount of fat to meat ratio. What I disliked is that they had SO much meat left on the carcass but they stopped once the plate is full of meat. In Houston they usually make a soup or stir fry the leftovers but after eating we figured it wasn't coming. I've eaten here plenty of times over the 50 years I've lived and worked in NYC and its specialty and signature dish, Peking Duck, has always been great. Went there in August and was sadly disappointed on many levels. The Peking Duck was less flavorful than on previous visits. The soup dumpling appetizer was served even though they were not fully cooked. The price was higher than I've paid for the same dish in other restaurants in other cities with a large Asian population; most notably Houston, TX. In comparison, Peking Duck House Chinatown is a poor value because it charges extra for duck soup and an additional 10 pancake wrappers. Everywhere else, and for a lower price, duck soup and a total of 20 pancake wrappers are included in the cost of the dish. Plus, the higher cost of the Peking Duck House Chinatown's dish is, sadly, not reflected in the quality, taste, and presentation of the dish. Bottom line - there's no value in the Peking Duck House Chinatown's signature dish; as I've found better Peking Duck elsewhere for a lower price. Won't ever be going back. read more

A group of 3 of us dined at Peking Duck House located in Chinatown, NYC on a winter Friday evening. They also have another location in NYC as well. It was about a 15 minute wait before we were seated. This restaurant actually gets packed. It's totally fancy inside with white table cloth and showcases their silverware. Their waiters spoke really good English. It's one of those restaurant you can bring your clients, go with a group of friends or dine with family. It's really worth it to go with a group. Peking Duck House signature dish is its duck. Their menu is customized in such a way where you can order 1/2 duck for a group of two or four. So there were three of us and we were able to order 1/2 duck for a group of 2. Our orders came with two soups, four spring rolls, chicken with peanuts that's served with salad leaf and a few beef skewers. Our order came with one entree so we decided to get the shrimp fried rice. Now back to the duck, they sliced it up into pieces and served in a plate. They also served with a taco kinda wrap, celeries, cucumbers and this brown sauce that's addicting. The duck is then seasoned and roasted, often in a vertical oven, until the skin is crispy and golden. Basically you can make your own duck taco. It's the most delicious, tasty and crispy duck I'd ever tried. You can also bring your own wine which is always a plus. Excellent services! We ordered takeout here every week for last 5 years for the 1/2 Peking duck meal. It was always pancakes, scallions/cucumbers, duck and sauce packed individually. Today, we got it and the Peking duck is rolled for you already onto 4 pancakes. It was so bad. Too saucy and and no crispy duck skin. Just disappointed and not good. We called them and they said they did that because "some people don't know how to roll them" but in reality they are giving you scraps and pawning them off as a Peking duck meal. Never again.
