What happened?!?! Ordered the Kung Bao Beef with Peanuts and it was completely flavorless, strangely so. You could vaguely taste the dried chilies, but not the peanuts. Salt and Pepper Shrimp was under seasoned and over breaded. Wayyyyy.....under seasoned and over breaded. Broccoli Chicken was also blah, although it typically isn't the star of the show and was fine for our 7 year old. Came here for a quick lunch and ordered two Thai dishes. Simply put - I have had better elsewhere. Both were hot and quickly prepared but they consistently lacked the depth of flavor customary with Thai cuisine. Noodles were too soft for my liking. If in a pitch and jonesing for Thai - come here. Unfortunately i cant rate this place more than a 3 So if you go for lunch you would not be able to find any lunch menus items that are Indonesian but this place is rated as an Indonesian restaurant. I would recommend sticking to the Indonesian Chinese menu items. I did a mistake by ordering Thai food which they are not specialized in. Stay away from Thai food ! We tried the following; nasi goreng- although not authentic can be rated. 5 (plus points) Beef fried rice- was a safe bet as the kids order Thai green curry- if you are a health fanatic you would love it as they have so much green beans and broccoli which was very fresh. The dish overall is great but not as flavorful as the actual thai green curry (minus points) I may return to try out some of their other Indonesian items. However, nothing stood out for me to make an extra effort to return The staff is friendly the ambiance a mere 2-3 rating . I had the and rengdang beef and shrimp padthai. the rengdang beef reminded me alot more of the African beef stew, which is something that is normal to me, so no wow factor for me....and pad thai was good enough, i have eaten a lot of great padthai, so there is definitely a benchmark to compare to. overall, I would recommend this place for a quick lunch. read more

If I could give this restaurant no stars, I would have. After a long workday, I was driving past this restaurant and thought I would try it. BIG MISTAKE! I ordered the beef and onion stirfry and sesame cold noodles. When I arrived at home, I discovered the woman had given me sesame tofu. I hate tofu. I called and told her what had happened, she said you can come in and exchange it but I live 20+ minutes away. I said I would prefer to get my money back the next day. They SAID that was alright, but when my husband came in with the entree and receipt the next afternoon the (owner?) said it was our fault that we received the wrong food and he would not replace it with the right food or give a refund. Finally, my husband had to threaten that we would review him online. The man made a horrible dish of noodles-- under-cooked and probably the worst dish I have ever had in a Chinese restaurant. He also refused to give back the difference I was over-charged. This owner knows nothing of acting like a professional. His restaurant lobby is empty; his food is awful. Want wonderful Chinese food? One of those redundant 'Chinese Buffet' like flavor! ~that too Common Chinese "General Tsao" flavor of most Chinese Restaurants - Nothing spectacular! The order taker had also missed one of my TO order menu, due to communication problems, worse, I got blamed by the owner (i think) and was insulted when I called back and told them about the problem. Was excited to try the food under new ownership. We ordered 9 different dishes and a few appetizers and sadly, most of it was inedible. I found this place when I lived in bayside about 8-10 years ago. When I moved to the east side a few years I couldn't find Chinese food of this quality, especially their sesame chicken!!! So good. I drive the 25 minutes a couple of times a month to get my fix :) read more

I'm definitely a fan! We went to Peking Chef for the first time last night and boy, everything we had was delicious. The owners are originally from Indonesia and being a person who is originally from South East Asia myself, I highly recommend the Indonesian/South East Asian offerings on the menu. Their beef rendang, which simply put is a different take on curry with lemongrass as one of the key flavors, tasted just how it is and should be back home. We also dined on Kweetiau Goreng, which is thick fried noodles with eggs and Chinese sausage and an order of the Ayam Goreng Mentega, which is butter-dipped fried chicken with sweet sauce. We found both dishes to be tasty but my favorite hands-down was the beef rendang. I can't wait to go back and try out their Soto Ayam and Gado Gado as well as the chef recommended Lamb Curry. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and pretty fast. We also received a free appetizer since it was our first visit. There's definitely not a whole lot of fancy decor to the place, it is simply decorated and is very casual and comfortable in every sense. There was a steady stream of both dine-in and take-out customers when we were there. Last but not least, the owner informed us that they hold an all-day Indonesian buffet for Mother's Day. I've had carry out from here twice (both the same order, which means I should not only branch out, but that their pad thai is pretty great! For those who are wondering what spice level to get, I had both the medium and spicy. In my opinion, spicy was better! It wasn't a burn your mouth off spicy but an enjoyable level of heat. The entire dish is great and can definitely serve as 2 meals. The service is also great, you can tell its a family owned business. The woman at the front was so nice, she even explained to me what vegetarian options they had and some of her favorites. I would definitely recommend trying Peking Chef! There is also plenty of parking and seating inside if you wish to dine in. Also, you can see the kitchen is clean and they use fresh ingredients. read more

One slight critique: Some of the more generic Chinese items are that--generic. Their eg rolls and wontons for example, can be hit or miss. But the menu is filled with hidden gems. The lamb curry is excellent. Their version of pad Thai is quite good (but needs a bit more peanut flavor imho). The mussels in black bean sauce is also excellent. The Thai basil chicken has a nice flavor, as does the Singapore rice noodle dish. Delivery is usually prompt, with the food still fresh. Prices are very reasonable. And they are a really nice family who are great to their customers. By far the best non Japanese Asian restaurant in this part of town. read more

We've bought food from Peking Chef three times in the past two months (take-out twice and dine-in once), and we've been wonderfully impressed with the food and service. We've focused mostly on the Indonesian and Thai sections of the menu, but based on the quality of our orders, I imagine that the Chinese section is just as good. The sauces are well-spiced and flavorful. Everything is made from scratch, including the curry pastes. And the vegetables are perfect - cooked through but still fresh and crunchy. We're looking forward to making our way through the rest of the menu. So far, we've tried the Chicken Curry, Rendang Beef, Jakarta Chicken, Masaman Curry, Phat Phet (red curry) and the Peking Special (Lar Nar). It's impossible to pick a favorite. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Her enthusiasm was infectious! When we ate there, we both ordered tea and she came out with a full pot for us to share - nearly three cups each. And it was brewed tea, not a tea bag and a cup of hot water. And it doesn't hurt that they include freshly-made, still warm sugar doughnuts to finish off the meal! It's no wonder that there's a constant stream of people picking up take-out orders. I love the item from their indonesisn menu. Chicken Laksa is a must,the blend of spices reminds me of a similar type of laksa I ate during travels and vacations in South East Asia. Other menu items that I would highly recommend are their Hong Kong Spring Rolls which is traditional to the Chinese Cuisine in South East Asian region, as these are typically prepared during Chinese New Year.Families would gather together and make these rolls in the Eve of Chinese New Year celebration. In addition, you can find the same rolls being sold by street vendors in Asia.I believe no other Asian restaurant in Milwaukee made this same type of eggroll. The Gado Gado, Pastel, Meaty Wonton, Bali Beef,Kungpao Indonesian style, Ayam Goreng Mentega(butter fried chicken in dark sauce),Babi Kicap (pork soy sauce)are pretty good too. There are no other Indonesian,Singaporean and Malaysian restaurant in the city, and Peking Chef fills in that void tremendously. read more

Their Indonesian portion of the menu is bananas! We ordered crab rangoons to start with, Rendang Beef, and Babi Kecap. Everything was seasoned to perfection, savory, and delicious.
