I couldn't shake the winter chill (December 2025) and it was too late for me to grab a coffee (not after 2pm, TYVM) but I wanted something to warm me up so I went for a hot chocolate. OK at first I like this pieces but now I just cannot tolerate it here I put my order in before they open and it tells me that it will be ready 515. I go inside and wait and I see people walk in at 5 o'clock and get their drink by 5:05 and 510. This is disappointing when I take the necessary precautions I look at my clock, there at 5:20 and my drink is still not ready. I'm a fan of Peets, but it's not fair that when I take the necessary precautions to be on time, others get to benefit when they don't prepare, and they become priority. I have been a loyal Peet's customer for 10+ years. I've seen the various managers come and go and staff as well. Not once an employee or management has been rude or dismissive. I barely walk in the door and get greeted from far away by staff. This only goes to show you that they appreciate the people that come in on a regular basis. I agree that there's no need to call out people by name. If the order is wrong, they are always willing to make it right and even hand out free drink cards for next visit. I've always loved the strength and quality of "Peet's Coffee" ever since I started drinking it back in the 1990's when I lived in the North Bay. However, this takes me on a trip to San Jose where I got the opportunity to check out their downtown location. Located at The Alameda in a very centralized part of town, this Peet's Coffee has been brewing up delicious hot and iced drinks dating back to the early-2000's. Since it is well known amongst locals, it has been one of the more established businesses in this part of town. The hours are also very accommodating for people that have awkward work schedules as they open daily at 5:00am and close around 5:30pm; great for those early birds needing their caffeine fix. Since I was an out-of-towner, I was staying nearby at the "Flamingo Motel", a quick 5-minute walk from Peet's. I came here during the afternoon of Friday 7/28/2023 at around 3:15pm. Since I was going to a concert later that evening, I wanted the energy to at least stay awake past my normal bedtime. This location is better to arrive by foot or bike as parking can be a little difficult to find in this part of town. As far as the inside, it is rather spacious and open with quite a bit of seating throughout as this is one of the larger Peet's Coffee locations I have been to. Inside, you will notice quite a few items for sale including mugs, tumblers, merchandise, and a selection of teas and their own ground coffee beans (available for normal coffee makers and Keurig machines). They also have a small outdoor patio area for the more comfortable San Jose mornings and afternoons. Since I ordered via-Peet's mobile app, my drink (a medium sized "Iced Vanilla Latte") was ready at this pick-up area. As predicted, my drink was perfectly made with the right amount of espresso, 2% milk, and vanilla to get me through the afternoon and evening hours. I also feel the employees were very professional and friendly with what I witnessed helping other customers. With the quick service, tasty above-average drinks, convenient location, and overall experience, I am giving this "Peet's Coffee" The Alameda in San Jose a respectable four-star rating. read more

Hello friends! Let me preface this review by noting that I maybe a little biased! lol Peets coffee has been a huge part of my life as a teen into adulthood. Teens into early 20s, this was the BEST job I've ever had! I'm now almost 40 and STILL consider going back part time on the weekends. (I KNOW I STILL GOT IT LOL) To this day I drink Peets everyday! Ordered a traveler here for work and although I did have to wait a little bit the people behind the counter were so sweet and so cheery for early in the morning I didn't even mind. I asked for one half and half and one almond milk with my traveler and they were so wonderful about it. I ended up order a plant based Mediterranean breakfast wrap which was so delicious and so was the plant based lavender latte. I honestly fell in love with Peet's coffee because of their matcha, it's way better than Starbucks lol. I order from this location almost every weekend and I'm usually always happy with my drink. My only complaint and why I'm giving 3 stars instead of 5 is because they have been sending my order twice now, with random things inside of my drink. The first time I sipped up some hibiscus type of dried flower thing. Today I received my drink with coffee grounds in it. I do not like regular coffee, and as you can see in the pictures, there is a lot. Every sip I'm getting these hard pieces making my drink undrinkable. I write this review in hopes that they see this and are more careful when preparing drinks. I usually have a great experience here other than people taking drinks from the counter that aren't theirs, but today I was waiting in line and was rudely cut in line by someone and the clerk saw I was obviously next having been waiting in line and the clerk just ignores me and continues to tend to the person that clearly cut in line. I just walked out instead of wasting my time since the staff obviously doesn't care to pay attention to who is in line, instead of letting people cut the line right in front of their face. This is one of my other favorite cafes on the Alameda/Downtown SJ where I catch up with friends on break with pastries and coffee. The staff here are pretty amazing and patient because I can literally run like 5 items by them from the menu: coffee to pastries and they can ID them to the T. Good on you the fine young woman, you deserve a compliment. I usually kick back with my planner and journal and just have at it while I wait for my friends to get here. I order a Iced matcha latte and if I remember correctly it's made w/ pure matcha grade green tea. Very simple and to the point, I'm cutting back on my coffee and caffeine consumption so to drink is good to ween. After a disappointing breakfast my girls and I decided to relax over some coffee. We walked in to absolutely no seating and only one other person in line. The girl at the register looked a bit annoyed that our group was standing around but we legit were trying to figure out what we wanted to drink [I'm normally a Starbucks kinda girl]. Mind you, there wasn't a single person behind us so it's not like like we were holding up any line. So we place our orders for: BLACK TIE x3- cold brew with condensed milk, syrup, & half n half. WILD BERRY HIBISCUS TEA- vibrant and sweet with berry notes. The tea was given at the register and the remaining 3 came out not too long after. Tasted good IMO. I prefer Pete's Coffee to Starbucks for the longest time it wasn't available except for on the west coast. While in San Jose I went to Pete's coffee about 1/2 mile from my hotel on my recent stay. I found the whole history of Peet's fascinating. Peet's Coffee originated in Berkley @ Vine & Walnut streets about 2 blocks from where my brother lives & was founded by Alfred Peet in 1966. This store is still open. Peet's originally sold coffee beans not cups of coffee. Pete's was known as the originator of gourmet coffees in the US. The original location at Vine and Walnut in Berkley CA remains open. Peet sold his business to Sal Bonavita in 1979, but remained working with the company as a coffee buyer and consultant until 1983. In 1984 Jerry Baldwin, a Starbucks founder, bought Peet's four locations from Sal Bonavita. In 1987, Baldwin and his Starbucks co-investors sold Starbucks to focus on Peet's to some guy named Howard Schultz. Any one ever hear of Howard Schultz? Starbucks' new owner, entered into a four-year non-compete agreement in the Bay Area. We all know what happened w/Starbucks and it's explode growth. Today Peet's sells its coffee in over 14,000 grocery stores across. Like I said I prefer Peet's Coffee to Starbucks. When my brother comes to Chicago he often brings an assortment of 1/2lb bags so we can try different blends of Peet's Coffee. Peet's is my preferred coffee place! Starbucks, me still love you ...... This particular location had welcoming staff and they made my mocha perfectly!!! Usually, the baristas don't make an effort to stir the chocolate syrup and mocha and then the first sip is nothing but bland hot milk only, which isn't desirable at all. Not to pick on Starbucks, it's okay, but when visiting the two Starbucks locations in downtown San Jose, I notice that after all this time, they still refuse to reopen their serve yourself cream and sugar, cocoa, and so forth stand. I had to ask, 'please don't tell me you are still not opening it, using C-V-D as an excuse, and I swear, both Starbucks people responded, "yes, it's for your safety." Yet, as I am rather like Larry David, I had to assert, "yeah, but it's really NOT is it?" Well, get this, here in this nicely rebounding after C-V-D neighborhood of San Jose (yes, having to rebound because of so many bad decisions were made about how to uh, respond to C-V-D), they have such a fully operational self-serve cream and sugar, artificial sweeteners, cocoa, and cinnamon stand! and the employees here are so nice. This Peet's is pretty solid with friendly staff, clean seating area, and decent wait times for drinks. Definitely a good place to get your caffeine hit and/or chat with a friend for a bit. This review is mainly for the bathroom. There was only 1 key available for the 30 minutes I was here and it was just for the right bathroom (not sure if the left bathroom was unavailable/left for staff). The bathroom was absolutely DISGUSTING. Liquid and dirty TP was all over the floor, there was no toilet liners available, and the toilet itself was too disgusting to be near. For how nicely decorated the store is, I was surprised to see a gas station-like bathroom. I get that it's the customers that cause this mess, but it truly seemed as if this bathroom had not been cleaned in days. I immediately exited the bathroom without using it and I felt so icky my entire time there. I hope this store comes up with a solution for their bathroom situation. read more

For some reason Uber Eats doesn't always let me rate the restaurant. It's so arbitrary. But of all the restaurants I've patronized through Uber Eats, Peet's is the best. They do all of the little things that make sure my money is not wasted. My coffee is secured in a carrier with a plug and placed inside the bag with my food and taped closed. It has a handle so the courier can sit it in the car with ease and not spill or damage anything. The spoon I asked for was in the bag. My order was delivered quickly so my coffee was still hot. I had surgery on Monday and couldn't run out and get coffee a couple days this week. They took the extra time to ensure a quality delivery. That is so rarely the case with deliveries. Sometimes staff doesn't even read the order to make sure they get it right. I appreciate this location so much. Delivery is really expensive and it's nice to know if I'm going to spend that much it won't be wasted and i won't have to complain for a refund. Beautiful job you guys! read more

Absolutely busy when we dropped by. But I absolutely love this place. Their cookies and cakes are much better than the other chain. Scattered comfortable chairs and tables everywhere. We settled on the bar chairs lined up by the window overlooking part of the parking lot and the street. Nice people watching spot and also facing the outside tables and chairs. The girl at the registered seemed really annoyed when I came to place an order. I felt unwelcome. Her customer service skills are severely lacking. I came in today to try the seasonal caramel apple latte for the first time. She seemed confused at what that was as well despite it being on the menu behind them but it eventually was ordered. As I was waiting the staff to make the drink it seemed new to them as well and I could see they were checking how it was made. The guy who was making the drink was reading the ingredients and told another coworker "that drink sound really disgusting". Really felt off-putting. Peets is my favorite coffee chain, I absolutely love their products. So this review is for this location only. Firstly, the 3 women working (all late teens/early 20s) were all non-communicative and in general seemed very unhappy to be there. Not welcoming. No hello no clarification just silence - which becomes a problem when the order goes awry. We ordered three drinks for the 3 of us and it took quite awhile but hey not that big of a deal (store was relatively empty) and then when we got our drinks something must've been off with the espresso machine since all of our drinks tasted watery. We told them but they continued to make other peoples drinks and then we asked to just provide the additional espresso shots instead of asking them to remake the drink because the drinks were not drinkable and we thought it would be faster. However, the whole ordeal still took 25-30min and resulted in still not good drinks. Mistakes happen but at the very least communicate resolutions and to customers. I love Peet's Coffee! They definitely make some of my favorite lattes. My to-go order is an iced vanilla latte. Simple yes, but Peet's makes flavorful and smooth lattes that I recommend trying. This location can be a little difficult to find parking, especially on a weekday morning. Service here is always pleasant and they are speedy. Definitely a great environment to get some work or studying done. There may be some foot-traffic, but not too many people actually stay so finding a seat has never been a problem for me. read more
