I have been coming here since they opened. It's always a nice surprise to see Nicky or Chelsea from the opening crew. ( and Kai! ) I have never had one bad experience here. That's saying a lot since no one's 100% perfect but.... They are. I don't know how else to put it. They have the best dark roast I've ever had at any coffee place, I've probably tried every single iced drink on their menu at one point or another and that's saying a lot since their selection is huge and ever-changing. I frequently try the warm breakfast sandwiches and they're pretty good. They probably taste better if you enjoy them there, not carry them to work in the paper bag and have it 30 min later, but that's on me not them. This is still simply the best dark roast in Rancho Bernardo. read more

This morning on my way to work around 7:30 AM, I decided to grab a cup of coffee. I spotted a Pete's Coffee -- coffee is literally in the name -- so naturally, I walked in. Ahead of me, a few customers were ordering all kinds of complex, fancy drinks. No problem. When it was my turn, I kept it simple: I ordered a brewed coffee, specifically the "Off the Grid" roast. The barista informed me that it wasn't available -- still brewing. Okay, no big deal. I asked for a cup of the medium roast instead. Same response: not available, still brewing. At this point, I just asked for any coffee they had ready to serve. The answer? They didn't have any coffee available. It would be a few minutes. How is it possible that a place called Pete's Coffee doesn't have coffee ready to serve at 7:30 in the morning? I'm no coffee shop operations expert, but you'd think there would be a basic rotation or brewing system in place to ensure the one item featured in the name of your store is actually available -- especially during the morning rush. Frustrated, I walked out of the store only to hear the employees snide "thank you sir"--what exactly was he thanking me for? I made my way across the parking lot to the Starbucks inside the Vons grocery store. Within mere seconds, I had a hot, freshly brewed cup of coffee in my hand. I've been trying to check this location out for a while but usually my schedule doesn't allow for it. Yesterday it finally did. I was warmly greeted by the staff as I walked in. They seemed to know all their regular customers too, so brownie points for that. The location is clean and modern. It was a cool morning too but the temperature inside was just right. I asked what they would suggest as I had never been to a Peete's before. They were patient and I was asked about my preferences, so settled on a nice slow drip Ethiopian blend. The coffee was hot, tasty and they left just the right amount of room for creamer. I found a 2 person table which is also nice. I really enjoyed the coffee. However, this is the second time I've come well before your posted closing time (5:30 p.m. on weekdays) and had a disappointing experience. Today, I arrived at 4:30 p.m., a full hour before closing, and was told there was no espresso available because the machine had already been shut down. In addition, the entire food display had already been cleared, and staff were visibly cleaning and closing up. This makes customers feel unwelcome and rushed, and frankly, it gives the impression that you're closed much earlier than what is publicly advertised. It's disappointing to come expecting the full menu and service, only to be told nothing is really available. I understand that staff need time to clean and close, but this should not happen at the expense of the customer experience--especially when arriving an hour before closing. I hope you'll take this feedback into account and ensure your closing procedures don't affect your service hours so significantly. read more

Found broken plastic in my coffee from this place. What you see in the picture is just 5%, i discarded it thinking it might be ground coffee but it is not on examining further. I only noticed this at the end of my drink as it is settled at the bottom of the drink. How can someone be so irresponsible while making a simple coffee. read more

Just stopped in to get Major Dickersons. It's a favorite of mine. Also has friendly staff and everything is clean.

Good: Service was friendly and fast - 2 stars Bad: 1. My Americano was tasteless; I poured it out when I could. I should have known when the cost didn't go up for a large. IMO the Barista should have asked my about adding a shot. A good one would and has. 2. The cup was so full that it spilled out of the top within 50 yards of pulling out. I stopped and cleaned the mess. When I picked it up to get a drink, it shot out the top all over me. This has never happened to me before today. Another sign of a poor or inexperienced Barista, overfull to go cup. Tasteless coffee that made a mess all over me and my car = never again. read more

Been coming to this location for quite a while. Most of the employees are friendly and willing to make your drink the way you like it. Unfortunately, one employee always seemed unhappy and appeared to want to be somewhere else other than work. Did not appear to have had good customer service training. The reason for the low ranking, and believe me, I wanted to give one star, is that the last 5 times I've ordered a dark roast coffee at the encounter they have been OUT and ask, "can you wait a few minutes while we brew more?" How is a coffee shop out of brewed coffee? Seriously, how? Three months ago it happened three times in a row. I waited two months to return. I have never been to a coffee shop that has had its espresso machine down more than I ever have since I've started coming to this Peet's.I used to go to Starbucks regularly for 15 years and not once in my 15 years, did I ever hear that excuse. It was hot out and saw Peets coffee from the parking lot. I have an English Springer Spaniel. Beautiful, kind loving dog. She's an Emotional Support Dog and very patient. I went to the register to order an iced coffee with the intention on going outside on the shaded patio once I got my order. The first thing I'm asked was not, welcome in but, only Mam, only service animals allowed. I thought well even if she wasn't how would I place my order without bringing her in. I replied she was emotional support. The girl seemed confused but took my order. Two other customers came in and asked to pet my dog. She was so happy to be pet. She let out one single friendly low bark from feeling loved. That was it!! Nothing more. The supervised or who ever she was walked over and said, your dog can't be barking in here. I thought, she let out one single bark and no one else was even there except the two woman who were gloating over her and I. The way it was said was blunt and unfriendly and very unwelcoming. I looked at the cashier and said, you guys are not very dog friendly are you? She said, I like dogs but they need to be outside. I said, my intention was to go outside once I got my coffee anyway. The woman in back of me were irritated by the employees as they could see there was no harm over my dog coming with me to the register. And the reaction from leading employee was nothing but redicuious. After I got my coffee, I went out side with my dog. She came outside and laid in the shade. No drama. Just chilling. I'm writing this because the advertisement for this place specifically says, pets welcome. But it was anything but welcome. I will never come here again. I've never had an issue with Starbucks. Starbucks love dogs and are so welcoming. As a matter a fact every place but this one is welcoming of animals. This was my first time here. And certainly my very last. read more

I am big time coffee drinker and Peet's is one of my favorite brands. This Peet's in Rancho Bernardo has a great, friendly staff. The inside and outside has plenty of seating and is dog friendly both indoors and outdoors. Although watch out for random coffee patrons who forget to read the names on to-go orders and swipe your drink/food order. This happened to me when a guy took my Americano instead of his chai tea latte and I'm sure he was surprised. But Peet's will happily fix you a new drink. read more

I'm a big fan of their lattes. There tends to be a line for ordering but the service is fast. You can also order online for quick pickup. The inside has four tables and more room to sit at a bench. There is also an outdoor patio with more seating and umbrellas! The atmosphere is rather calm so I like to come and either read a book or get some work done. The cold brew oat latte was very good. I thought you could taste more of the coffee in this compared to a regular espresso latte. read more

WAS having a really BAD day: Ex-wife kept starting with me, my now EX-boyfriend DUMPED ME, MY FLIGHT'S CANCELLED, my two sugar babies dropped me for the same young blondie blonde WHO'S NOT EVEN THAT ATTRACTIVE, my freaking dumb Chihuahua just got repossessed by my mistake of a step-uncle, AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT, Starbucks was closed!!!! So when I saw this place around the corner which I've never been to before, let's just say I was open-minded. BEST decision I ever made! So open, yet so cozy is the place, so chill and casual but not dark, stale or cold inside compared to most coffee shops. As soon as I walked in, three GORGEOUS girls greeted me as if I had been coming there for years; all smiling, all friendly, all accommodating, and all SO PATIENT. Some moron in front of me kept complaining about waiting 3 MINUTES for a fresh cup of coffee wtf?!?! And these ANGELS dealt with him with such effortless grace, the Pope himself would blush. After the old geezer left, I was willing to wait those three minutes, and it was THE BEST cup of COFFEE I had in a such long time. According to one of the cuties (who was SPUNKY ;D), that apparently happens a lot...wtf. Pissed that my spotty memory can't recall when I went nor any of those chicks names. I used to work in La Jolla, which made this location an easy stop on the way in. The staff was always super friendly and this location never seemed to be very busy during the morning hours I would be in. I've since gotten a job near home and oh man does the carlsbad staff make me miss this location even more. The staff and experience of Rancho Bernardo squashes carlsbad tenfold. They are in the Von's shopping center where a major remodel seems to be taking place. There's a lot of dust and noise but that's not fault of this Peet's. It's a nice quaint location with outdoor patio seating. I decided to give them a try vs my usual Starbucks just a block over. Cashier was nice. The prices here seem higher than Starbucks. Starbucks usually doesn't charge me to add a bit of steamed 1/2 n 1/2 to my Americano but they charge to do that here. He welcomed me to take my Americano and add cold half n half from the condiment table behind me. My Americano was made quickly and looked delicious. Unfortunately, it tasted very weak. Similar to the standard coffee I made myself in the mornings (but I don't charge myself a whopping $3.80 to make my own coffee - maybe I should huh). Not sure I'd stop by again as I prefer the americano at Starbucks. It's a cute location though and wasn't very crowded. read more

Finally was able to stop in and try the everything plant based bagel. It was surprisingly good for something that is basically pre-made. I will definitely be getting that sandwich again. I didn't ask, but if they had some ketchup (my personal choice) or something to put on top it would be perfect. I also got a chai tea with espresso. Sweeter than I'm used to but still good.
