In my experiences..... Great Great Coffee. The staff is friendly as hell. So why so many bad reviews.. I doubt it is actually the coffee that concerns you. It was merely the fact that there is always a VERY large line in there, and sometimes it seems that employees are standing around. What does that mean for YOU!? When there is consistently long lines to order coffee, IT MUST BE PRETTY F!@#$%^ GOOD!!! Peet's takes great pride in there work, and the freshness reflects it. Come to enjoy a good cup of coffee like you would a nice dinner. If you need a quick caffeine fix, and can't afford a few minutes in line....Maybe you should plan your time better, or take something to calm you down, as Peets is great, and strong coffee and might make you even more strung out than you already seem... Best Peet's in Marin! I'm not a person who buys coffee everyday, but when I'm in the neighborhood this is definitely my go-to. The staff is always incredibly friendly and you really feel a sense of community. I think a lot of people live in the neighborhood and most customers seem to know one another. It feels more like a local coffee shop than a chain! When I was in the store this morning my coffee spilled a little bit and the employee working was so nice! I got a bunch of napkins and she insisted that I stop cleaning it up and offered to remake my drink. I told her that it was unnecessary, but I really appreciated the offer. This location has excellent customer service and I will continue stop in when I'm in the area. read more

So, I'm breaking my self-imposed rule of not reviewing chain stores. But, I must do a review now. I will preface this by saying I love Peets. I can't live without their cappuchinos. Their vegan scones are damn good. As a whole, every Peets outlet is pretty similar in their quality of coffee. Great, right? I'm giving my Peets 5 stars because the staff there is AWESOME! They are always polite, even during the madness that is 7.30 am, and always smiling. But this is besides the point. Just called to order a coffee traveler for my work meeting in the morning, and not only did they recognize my voice over the phone, they even asked if I wanted my cappuchino to be ready in advance of my picking up the coffee traveler! I've been to this Peet's two times now and this has to be the worst Peet's I've been to. Besides, the fact the coffee doesn't really taste like coffee, it is by far the dirtiest, the counters are sticky and the employees are unorganized. Love Peet's and have coffee at another location nearly every day. No location is perfect and I understand that. Because I know and love Peet's this place felt like an outlier and made me feel uncomfortable. There were five people behind the counters and just two ladies were assisting customers while another lady was supporting them today. The line became longer and longer and two of the employees stood by joking with the lady assisting while the two behind the main counter worked at a leisurely pace. The team were inefficient, slow and had no sense of urgency. What's worse? They created the slowdown and rather than fix it--they made it worse. It took 11 minutes to get a drip coffee and I was second in line. Five people can do better than that and so can Peet's. read more

Greetings. I am a faithful Peets disciple however today something happened that i hope Peets will work with their team on. I have a cardiac problem so I rely on decaf (that I know has some caffeine) to get my day going. I actually like the taste of coffee I don't go after the boost it used to give me. Today I asked for a decaf coffee and saw the barista (gal behind the register) get it for me. I noticed the decaf ran out 3/4 of the way up the cup. Instead of adding hot water or asking if so was fine with 3/4 cup of coffee she sneaked in 1/4 cup of full caffeinated coffee to top me off. I totally appreciate the gesture- but I can't risk the outcome. There were so many people in line that I didn't correct her, and walked away with a partially caffeinated cup of Joe. So I gave it to a pal. Maybe this was some power telling me so already had enough today. This is just a note of concern - Peets and this one in particular rock! read more

I really like this location (Bon Air Center) and always love Peet's overall. I wish they had better seating options to make it more conducive to staying a while, though I guess they had to work with the space they had. The service is friendly and product is consistent with what I expect from Peet's. Love the Jasmine Downy Pearl tea (Mighty Leaf) and their Americanos. read more

Peet's is peet's. Great tasting coffee here. The smells just draws you in. I have had a rather disappointing experience at the northgate mall location, but in general Peet's always offers good drinks, some snacks to munch on, a clean sophisticated shop and excellent customer service. This is for true coffee lovers. Oh and they also have wonderful teas as well. It can get packed in here, but what coffee shop doesn't. Come in here, get your drink of choice and know that it should come out perfect every time and if it doesn't they will do their best to make sure that it does. Out of the few different Peet's I've reviewed already this one is easily the best, of course that might be due to the circumstances of my visit. I was there at about 6:20pm on a Thursday night, hardly any foot traffic n the BonAir shopping center. I ordered 2 medium black coffees, nothing special at all. I got them and they had left plenty of room for me to add the requisite soy milk my friend likes in her coffee and that I myself have grown to enjoy. Never had another do this for me but I have had the local Peet's ask me last night if I'd like room left in it for milk. This one is rather small and is oddly arranged inside compared to others who tend to have the milk/cinnamon/sugar station right behind or next to where you get your drink. read more

After around thirty years of going to Pees and their excellent stores, I finally have found a location that is doing almost everything right, except for one extremely important thing: The Greenbrae shop (coincidentally located in the shopping center I used to go to with my parents in the late fifties and early-mid sixties as a boy) has had a busted door closer for at least a week to two weeks now, and many customers, including myself have tried to fix it, because it slams so hard, it jars the customers each time it closes! Being that I have many years experience in the customer service and hardware/lumber arena, I find the manager's claim that the "Peet's" maintenance people have been notified..." If I managed this gold-mine branch of Peet's, I would have gone to the hardware store immediately and fixed it myself it was bothering my clients. Better yet, if there really is a "crack" Peet's maintenance squad who is just moments away from arriving, I hope they get here in the next two minutes because my head is beginning to hurt! As I am the same wonderful guy who managed to get the Novato Hamilton store staff to completely be re-trained in what a Peet's coffee should look and taste like, I guess, I have by default taken the job of secondary level management, ie., "public representative" to insure that the "complex" nature of brewing coffee and fixing doors is not overlooked... read more

I'm always a bit reluctant to write reviews of chain businesses. However, Peet's Coffee is generally regarded as a classier brand than Starbucks (in the same way that Whole Foods Market is considered more upscale than Safeway). Because of this fact, we in the Bay Area seem to casually overlook the fact that they have multiple locations. But let's face it, not all Peet's coffee shops are created equal. I've been to some sub-par locations around town (long lines, spilled milk on the counter, no place to sit and/or wait for your order, screaming children running amok, etc.). So I'm happy to report that this particular Peet's in Bon Air Shopping Center is one of the best coffee shops around! The staff is consistently friendly and on top of their game. I've never had to wait longer than a few minutes for my double espresso (even during their "rush hour" traffic). There are plenty of tables inside AND outside to enjoy your beverage. The shop is immaculate (no un-bussed tables or dirty counters). The milk and half-and-half bottles are never empty. And on some mornings, they'll even offer free samples or treats for customers while they wait. Now THIS is the way a coffee shop should be! No wonder folks like to linger here at all times of the day. Since it's located in the Bon Air Center, there's plenty of free parking. And when you're done consuming your caffeinated beverage, you can do your grocery shopping at Mollie Stone's next door. If you're a Marini-ite looking for a decent cup of joe and a comfortable, sunny place to meet up with friends, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more inviting coffee shop. read more

Pretty terrible . I order a black iced tea and when I got it it was basically water. I stood at the barista counter where you pick up drinks for a good 4 minutes without any of the employees who looked up at me saying a word. So I went to the cash register and the man at the cash register said "they are all really busy" after I asked him to get me a different tea politely explaining what happened. So I walked BACK over to the barista and loudly asked if they could make me a new tea. Which they didn't after clearly making me feel like an idiot for asking. read more

Very clean store. Service is awesome, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich and it was great. Cashier was very nice, I asked for hot sauce and unfortunately they don't carry hot sauce but he offered to go get some from his car which I thought was awesome to try to do extra for the customer. Of course I declined the offer but it was very thoughtful of him to offer that to me. Great place for lunch! read more

I actually couldn't believe it, because phone orders take less time than actually dealing with somebody in person. Anyway, went to Starbucks. I am a huge Peet's fan. I have been drinking Peet's coffee since they had just the original store in North Berkeley. This store in Bon Air has been my home away from home for years. In fact, my wife and I met there. But we have to give it four thumbs DOWN after the renovation they just did. It's awful! Where to start? The biggest problems to me are NOISE and the lack of ambiance. You would think they would learn from the recently opened Tiburon store, which has a horrendous noise level, but nooooo. Rather than including any acoustic dampening at all, which the Bon Air store already needed, they made the noise level much worse. It seems nobody there know anything about acoustics. Nor do the store designers seem to understand the brand. The walls of white subway tile exacerbate both the noise problem and the lack of ambiance. I mean, really. In the midst of the huge field of white tile, there is a big sign that says "handcrafted beverages." But the two send very different messages. Between the white tile and all the stainless steel behind the counter, it looks and feels more like a butcher shop than a place that handcrafts anything. Alfred Peet must be rolling over in his grave (if he's dead, of course)! I've heard others describe the shop as feeling like a cafeteria now instead of a coffee house, and I have to agree to that description too. On the positive side, they added more seating, which they badly needed. BUT, they took out the counter along the front windows that so many of us enjoyed. Keeping it would have increased the individual seating as well. So now there are more individuals taking up a whole table. Also, the sea of tables and chairs obstruct people's passage to the coffee ordering area. There is just one little stand at which to "doctor" your coffee now, way too constricted for such a busy store. Even the newspaper basket is gone. One last -- important -- thing, and then I'll stop. The new counter design separates the employees from the customers more. The end result is a less personal experience for the customer. You might as well be ordering from a fast food restaurant. It's sad. I understand from the staff that NO ONE asked anyone there, even the store manager, for their input when designing the remodel. How stupid is that? We are just looking forward to more nice weather so we can grab our coffee and head outside where it's still nice rather than spending any time in the store. read more

I have been going to this peets for years. I don't think i have ever gotten a good drink from this store. I have been here when its been busy, and when its been dead and the condiment counter is always filthy and sticky. I have now been working for this company for three years and have realized this job is not the hardest. one of my favorite customers came into my store yesterday telling me that she was there at the bon air peets and the barista broke her favorite cup she gets her latte in EVERDAY and didnt apologize didnt offer to replace it and tried to charge her for another drink in a paper cup. yeah. this store sucks. read more

Came here to get my Bay Area Peet's fix while visiting fam and I felt so bad for the people there. There were two people working both times, with a line out the door, and garbage cans overflowing. I'm a longtime Peetnik that has visited at least a hundred of their locations up and down the Pacific coast. Of those the Bon Air location in Greenbrae is hands down numero uno. After eight years as a regular, where everyone knows your name and order, where they manage to easily serve huge crowds of shoppers, rowers, morning commuters and families, I am moving to the Peninsula and very concerned I will not find another comparable coffee family. The service here is extraordinary and I attribute that to the care and attention in hiring and training implemented by the managers. Everyone is friendly and attentive, taking time to learn about their customers beyond just the name on the order. The coffee is at the level expected by Alfred Peet with a touch of inspiration and caring delivered by the superb baristas. The fact they know exactly how I like my large cold brew with two shots is an added bonus. I am sorry to be leaving the area and will make it a point to visit Bon Air Peet's anytime I am close by. In the meantime, thanks for wonderful service and coffee and for making my family feel like a part of your family - Nicole, Thomas, Stephanie, Taylor, Adia, Ariana, Doug and team. I went to Peet's in Greenbrae today. I was in an awkward situation, nothing to do with Peet's. There is a lady working there who I have seen before. She waited on me. All I remember is that her badge read "Team leader, or Team ...."). She has brown hair, middle age. Anyway, she absolutely could not have been nicer, kinder, and just lovely. It was a little thing, but it was her kindness that struck me. This is also a great location. I will be back!! read more

I love Cafe au Laits. When I went to this Peet's and I ordered a Cafe au Lait the person taking my order asked me if I was going to put half and half in the coffee. I told him the drink was made with half coffee and half steamed milk. He had never heard of this before. His co worker assisted him and when I received my order the Au Lait was mostly coffee. I went back to complain and and was told Peet's makes its au laits with about 80 per cent coffee and 20 per cent steamed milk and if I wanted a traditional half and half au lait I would have to remember to specially ask for it. Why can't cafes here get these things right? At Cafe Trieste or other north beach cafes and at the Marin Coffee Roasters in San Anselmo you get an au lait when you order it. So why at Peet's do I have to remember to order it my way and not their way? Plus their coffee tastes burnt to me....just wondering. Also the employees here all seemed a bit spaced out and had quite the attitude problem. They were laughing and joking and took their sweet time to wait on me and they were not busy.
