peasants FEAST is a solid 4.5 / 5! we spent three days in solvang for my husband's birthday and decided to check this place out as it's recommended in the michelin guide. everything was top notch! there was a bit of a wait on a thursday around lunchtime, but the staff was super accommodating towards us and our young son. it was a warm day and they made sure our table had some shade and checked in on us frequently. as for the food, we ordered the lil mcfeast smash burger with a side salad, the hot chicken sandwich with potatoes, and the fried chicken from the kids menu. the plating and attention to detail, especially for the salad, was next level. we ended our meal with the frozen lime pie and even though we were stuffed, we finished every bite. truly a masterpiece. we will definitely stop by here again to try the soup, which we've been told is absolutely magnificent. it's clear their food is made with love and clean, fresh, seasonal ingredients. read more

They are famous for their Solvang Hot Chicken, which is not served at every meal, so be sure to check if you are coming for that! We ended up coming back for it. We made a reservation for lunch, and glad we avoided what we saw long wait outside! Here for a quick meal with our dogs, the staff was friendly and brought water for our two dogs for outdoor seating. I ordered the curry mussels, which were exceptional. The mussels were fresh and succulent, bathed in a flavorful curry broth that was both aromatic and well-balanced. The dish was accompanied by crusty bread, perfect for soaking up the delicious broth. Indoor seating looks casual but with a refined look. The menu seems to focus on decent quality ingredients too. Wow, this place is worth the wait! It was a busy Christmas week and people everywhere in downtown. When I put my name down, wait time was 60 minutes for 2, and we waited for about 37 minutes and got a table. I loved my Pastrami Smoked Salmon sandwich. It is lox salmon, like on a bagel, but cut really thick and made like a burger. Every bite of the sandwich, I tasted this sweet smoked salmon melting on my tongue, with whipped cream cheese, herbs and capers. Delicious! My husband had grilled cheese and it was also an amazing choice. Crunch, salty and gooey, and grilled to perfection. There are outside seating too, probably nice in the sunny warm day. There is a huge farm house style table inside, where large group could be accommodated. Tonight I saw a table of 9 being seated there. Came for dinner and had to wait for a while, which was fine (there are many shops around the area to browse while waiting). We were seated outside in a shaded area which felt really nice (that day was hot!). My husband got their Solvang Hot Chicken ($21) with a side of cheesy polenta. This sandwich featured a buttermilk fried chicken, pickled red onions, fresh herbs, shredded cabbage dressed in ranch on a brioche bun. These flavors were more subtle than what we pictured. There was a weird flavor to it, honestly, it wasn't spicy and it wasn't seasoned well and it was not worth $21. The polenta was cheesy, not salty, on the thick side and you got some potato bits with every bite. I enjoyed that. I got their Mushroom Tacos ($19) which has onions, queso fresco, epazote pesto, pea shoots, lime, and roasted mushrooms on two pressed corn tortillas. This was loaded with good flavor, especially when lime was added on top. The beans on the side were also loaded with flavor - soft, a bit spicy, creamy. Overall it was better than the chicken. As a starter we split the Baby Gem ($19) which had baby gem lettuce, shaved carrots, radishes and beets, and toasted almonds all dressed in a shallot thyme vinaigrette. The first time my gf tried to get us here over the weekend, the wait was an hour. The second time, we got seated right away. She was very eager to show off a couple of dishes, so we ended up sharing the hot chicken sandwich, which you can actually get with less heat, and the smoke salmon, which was very pleasant and what we started with between the two. The chicken batter was really nice and it seemed to overflow out of the bun, almost like a smash burger. The cheesy polenta that you can get as a side is almost like really rich grits. We also shared the shaved brussels sprouts, which is actually a BIG dish. We couldn't even finish it all and made some jokes about how it required a lot of chewing. It's known for their good quality food. It was Wednesday afternoon, and it's sunny out there without those so-called Santa Ana wind. Yes, I ended up getting out of the Santa Ana wind zone for some great food. Crazy, isn't it? I sat outside for some fresh air. I've ordered one of their popular item, Mac and Cheese. I was amazed by it presentation and taste. It melt in my mouth. Heavenly good. Definitely the best Mac and Cheese I've had in a long time. Even an older couples sitting next to me ordered that and actually love it. Another item I've ordered is their Solvang Hot Chicken sandwich. I've made sure to order it less spicy so I don't have any problems later. Very good concept which I like. Not too bad of the sandwich. Taste pretty good. For the service.... Very friendly staff they got there. Now, I've been in hospitality for almost 8 years and still doing it. Great service and they really know how to make sure the customers have a best experience. We ordered the pastrami salmon sandwich (must get!), order the caviar bump and put that in with the salmon - so delicious! My friends who visited Solvang told us to try this place as they couldn't as the line was too long. We got there when open (11am) and there was already a line. We were hoping to sit inside but was full so we got an outside table. It was on the side so not too sunny but next to another cafe so still gave us some people watching opportunity. We didn't want to stuff our faces as there are plenty of other cafes to try. We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and a bacon appetizer. The service was friendly and attentive, and they checked on us and help take a picture for us. The bacon ... wow!! So darn good! I can eat 5 by myself! The chicken sandwich came with a sauce which should be spicy, but the sandwich itself is more spicy than the sauce. We picked potatoes as side and don't know what type of potatoes they use, it was the creamiest fried potatoes I have had! Don't know about other dishes but the ones we ordered was wonderful. I guess there is a reason it is on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list for 3 years. Peasants Feast is one of my favorite casual dining restaurants in Solvang. I remember when they opened and I was impressed by them then and years later coming back it's still an awesome spot to come to dine while in the downtown area. Solvang naturally will have a lot of tourist oriented restaurants and peasants feast is a nice exception as it doesn't give off that uber touristy vibe but clearly locals and first timers are a fan of this place. The word has spread and the tables fill up fast. My pro tip is coming here right at opening to guarantee a seat and faster service. At 11am on a weekend opening we were already the four party in line pre opening. By 12pm every seat was taken in the house for the most part, inside and out. When I say it's popular get here on time/before the rush and then you can at least snag a table. The staff here are super nice and friendly. They give welcoming vibes and make you feel like your business is appreciated (which sometimes gets lost at other popular restaurants bc they want to make you feel that you're lucky to eat there). Here you are lucky because the food is good lol but the staff are approachable, attentive, and again, just very friendly. 5/5 for service. The menu is impressive with a good amount of sharable bites, salads, burger/sandwiches and a few mains. The prices are reasonable and the menu is to the point. One page for food and one page for alcohol / drinks, not complicated. I will say I wish they served fun cocktails here, that would totally fit this vibe but for the time being only beer, wine, and cider. My absolute favorite meal here is their Cesar salad add crispy fried chicken thighs. This Cesar salad is arguably one of the best Cesar salads I've ever had in my life. The lettuce is dressed to perfection and the shredded cheese so tasty. Their Cesar dressing is thick and peppery, it's truly delicious and creamy, I always get an extra side. I love adding the fried chicken on top for some texture but the chicken is slightly less seasoned/salty so it helps balance out the dressing. I love this salad and it's hard to try anything else here. My friends both times have gotten their spicy chicken sandwich and it's a fan favorite. When I eat here so many chicken sandwich plates go out, most tables have a least one of this dish being ordered so it's got to be good. Food is definitely a 5/5. read more

It wasn't very busy, but we were only checked in on once, which meant we didn't have water to help swallow our food. Our waitress didn't even crack a smile and just loomed over us as we ordered. We took a day trip to Solvang for the first time with @hangrypringles and loved it! The Danish themed town was super cute with tons of shops, bakeries, wine tasting rooms, and restaurants. We ended up having lunch at peasants Feast which has received a Bib Gourmand for the third time in a row this year (congrats!). Service was great and the food was fresh using locally sourced ingredients. All of the winter squash this season was actually provided by the nearby pumpkin patch @solvangfarmerpumpkinpatch which I thought was pretty cool. During a recent heat spell in Solvang, and before our day of wine tasting in the Valley, we braved the elements in Solvang to once again delight our taste buds and dine al fresco at peasants FEAST. What an incredible dining experience. Service from start to finish was excellent. Very attentive servers who made some very good food suggestions. And for this visit we threw caution to the wind . . . and had dessert FIRST. Their Nannie's Frozen Key Lime Pie was just what we needed. And of course we needed sustenance for our day of swirling, and so began with their Baby Gem, Brussels, and Copenhagen Caesar Salads. Each one tastier than the next, and nice on that warm day. Then to continue we shared the Pastrami Smoked Salmon (can't even tell you how delicious this is), the Smash Burger, and the Kobe Beef French Dip. Also for the table we had some of their glorious sides, Mac & Cheese, Pinquinto Beans, Mighty Cap Roasted Mushrooms, and some crispy potatoes. Now before y'all go judging me for so much food, there were five of us. And NO, my camera did not eat first. There are still several menu items we need to try. One table next to us was raving about the Tacos, and the other about the Grilled Cheese and their specialty Soup. I will be sure to have my bib ready! Whether inside or outside, it's such a nice setting enjoying the sunshine and the other happy diners. It has lots of outside patio seating and some inside seating. I walked up to the staff member behind the podium and asked how long was the waitlist. She said their waitlist was very long and they were no longer taking anymore people for the waitlist. I said so I can't dine here and she turned her head side to side so I took that as a no. Then I said may I order to go and she said yes of course. That's what I did. I got the Baby Gem Salad and Fried Chicken. After I ordered, I sat adjacent to the podium while I was waiting for my order. A few mins later, a family of four walked up and said a party of four. The lady who told me that the waitlist was closed put the family of four on the waitlist. Two sets of different couples arrived after that family also got on the waitlist. The family of four got seated after 10 mins getting on the waitlist. For whatever reason I was informed the waitlist was closed is unacceptable. I was by myself which should not have mattered. Anyway, I did not make a scene at the time and I let it go. But the lady knew that I knew what she did because I gave her the "I knew" look as I was leaving. Anyway, nothing special with the salad. This was a nice little starter dish that was recommended by our friendly server! Local Rockfish The presentation was simple yet outstanding! Tasted just as good as it looked! This entree was my girlfriend's so I only had a little sample lol but from that one bite almost had me wanting to order my own! Cavatelli Cacio e Pepe served in miso brown butter, black pepper, parmesan and a farm egg. I've never heard of this dish in my life but I always love to try new food and this one was quite enjoyable! Every bite was delightful full of fresh ingredients leaving me wanting more! (Lunch) Salmon Pastrami Burgers with crispy potatoes Both my girlfriend and I had the same burger. Peasants FEAST is located in the heart of Solvang serving up elevated American dishes. Part of the draw to this place is a mention in the Michelin Guide. The serving staff is very attentive and friendly. The cafe style decor lends to a relaxed ambiance. Of all the dishes we tried after 2 visits, the Solvang hot chicken sandwich is my favorite. Depending on the season, they serve various soups from fennel, to carrot, to squash, to corn. I love that. Unfortunately, the soup I ordered my first visit was over salted. The soup I ordered the second time was delicious. So, a bit inconsistent Other than that, this is a very solid choice for a lunch in a touristy Danish town.
