Here's our story: My wife and I bought a house in Q4 2019. The house itself seemed turnkey ready, but both the front and back yards needed major work. The previous owners put a pretty good mask on them during the selling process... I'd guess that they hired someone for yard clean-up, then simply poured tanbark on top of weeds (without properly removing them). During the purchasing process, we learned that the irrigation system was original 1955 galvanized steel and needed to be replaced. The end result was: our new house looked great from the inside... but the yards turned into neighborhood blights after about 3-4 months. We needed help. After blowing our nest egg on a down payment, we saved for another year to be able to afford actual landscape/hardscape. We weren't sure where to begin and engaged multiple vendors. Pearman Landscape was among them. From our first meeting, Robert Pearman behaved more like a trusted confidant than a vendor. We had never purchased hardscape services before... and it definitely showed. Rather than lead us around by our nose, like the greenhorns we obviously were, he described the entire process like an impartial 3rd party. Multiple times, he gave us information while acknowledging "whether you go with me or somebody else." Robert immediately sent over his designer, Kristin Bailey. I had read the Yelp reviews from Jody and Bob and immediately got worried, as they both claimed she was unresponsive. Luckily, I had a totally different experience. Kristin was prompt, she was polite, she was helpful, and I ended up chatting with her for about 45-minutes after we walked through my yard. I found her to be an absolute treat and I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience with her. She was wonderful every step of the way. Listened to what we needed, asked us great follow-up questions, made sure she was including plants and trees that we wanted in our design... and finished our plan in less than 2-weeks. It was very reasonably priced and we fell in love with the plan immediately after viewing it. I can't speak highly enough about Kristin. Based on our positive experience, we decided to move forward with Pearman Landscape. Not only will they redo our hardscape/landscape/irrigation, but I intend to retain them for garden maintenance after the project is completed. We received 4 quotes to redo our yard front to back. Pearman was not the most expensive but was not the least expensive either. The project is now complete and we are so happy we went with Pearman. I have an acre lot and was looking for some beautiful landscape lighting of our backyard. We have large parties and events outside and we wanted lighting that was more dramatic and sophisticated. I looked over the portfolio that Pearman had and was so impressed. I love that Pearman constructs a temporary demo of the lights and they leave it with you for a week. During the night you can go out and see what the lights will look like. I am a tough client and really pushed Pearman to rework the lights a couple times. But they never complained. Augustine is a great manager and works hard to win your confidence. I love his "Can Do" attitude. We re worked several areas and the yard is spectacular!! We ended up having them do both the front and back yards. We have huge trees and there is so much drama the way they are lit. They are definitely not the cheapest, but their lights are all heavy duty, high quality and they come back anytime there is a problem. Definitely responsive!! I recently wrote a 1 star review of Pearman Landscape. Although the work was done well, after the project was finished we received an additional bill with no explanation. I called to inquire why and was told it was for the labor. Our contract did not specify that the charge for labor was separate. We nevertheless paid the second bill but I posted the unsatisfactory review. Mr. Pearman requested on Yelp that I contact him to resolved the issue, which I did. He did acknowledge that he had made a mistake in the original contract and offered to refund the disputed amount. He did so and I feel he handled the dispute professionally and courteously. I think this was a good illustration of the need to fully understand the terms of any contract and ask questions about anything that is not clear. read more

We have used Pearman since we moved into our house in 2009. they are fantastic. very professional and proactive. I was surprised one day last winter season when we found all our roses and several expensive plants covered by white plastic sheets. When we checked, they told us that next week was going to be super cold and so they are protecting the plants from frost bite. That's the thoughtfulness and proactivity we have not seen from many other landscape vendors we used before. our yard looks fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone. Pearman landscape just finished a garden "refresh" for my yard. Most of my foundation plantings were put in over 10 years ago. Some are thriving and some had not. Former areas of full sun are now part shade. Augustin and his crew spent 7 days removing dying trees, shrubs, etc. and replacing them with new plants that are more suited to the current conditions in my yard. Some sprinklers/irrigation were modified and then annuals and mulch were added. My yard looks great! All of the Pearman workers were respectful and professional. Pearman Landscape just finished our complete front yard makeover two days ago and we couldn't be more pleased. From beginning to end, all the employees were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Augustin (the job manager) and his guys (Bryan, Oscar, Ray, Antonio, etc.) built an incredible drainage system, installed design features as drawn on my plan, planted the specified plants and designed and installed an appropriate irrigation system for the yard. Augustin spent time educating me about the workings of the irrigation system and what to expect from the plants. He also created a beautiful plant collection in a large landscape planter pot at my front porch. Ramon and his hardscape crew built a brick bordered concrete walkway that is exactly as I imagined it would be. Both Augustin and Ramon were easy to contact and work with during the job and when changes to the plan were needed or recommended they were both extremely helpful and responsive, as was Robert when a few of the plants on my plan were not available. It's worth mentioning, too, that I found a small problem yesterday and Augustin was here TODAY to fix it. Great service! And I LOVE the final product! I don't need weekly service because I have no grass, but I will definitely be using Pearman for seasonal maintenance to keep my wonderful yard looking as good as it does today. read more

We recently renovated our backyard landscaping. Pearman Landscape had many good ideas to minimize problem areas and worked with existing hardscape so we did not have to re-do these expensive areas. In addition to new plantings, they designed new irrigation and replaced old lighting. They had specific teams that were expert in each phase of the work. The "go-to" guy for all this was Augustine and he made sure that each team was responsive to our questions and concerns. We look forward to working with Pearman when we re-do our front landscaping. I had my backyard done earlier this year, March 2014. My backyard was in bad shape and Pearman Landscape did help a little to change that. When Ron came by for the quote, he was very informative, told me my options and what he could do to meet a design I had. He was very competitive with his pricing. They changed a wooden planter box/retaining wall into a very nice rock retaining wall. I had grass sod and sprinklers put in. I have extremely hard hard dirt and sand in my backyard on which the grass sod was laid on. They didn't rototill this dirt, try to work in fertilizer, prep the dirt, bring in some better dirt/top soil, check PH, nothing. What happens when you lay the sod on dirt that isn't set up properly... all of your grass starts to die! (and its made out to be your fault) This happened about 1-2 weeks after instal. I called Ron about this, he came by and said "its cuz i havent mowed the lawn yet" " not watering enought" etc... They set up the sprinkler timer to water at the correct intervals and told me to change it after a month. He had one of his guys come the next day and lay some seed to fill in all the patches. Again the grass started to die a couple weeks after that. I was mowing like I should and watering like i should but also watering smartly since we are in a drought. We are now tearing up his work and replacing it. After 6 months, the sod should have rooted into my existing dirt by now, none of it has. The sod is so very easy to pull on and all of the "grass"/dead grass along with the underside dirt of the sod is coming up in a snap. My 9 year old can literally tug at the "grass" and it comes up. Grass sod shouldn't do this. I had also asked for a rock walk-way on the side of my house. This was apparently "forgotten" about as it wasn't on the quote. I was given another quote for way more than it should have cost. I regret contacting this company to fix my yard and spending as much as I did. read more

On recommendation from a friend we contracted with Pearman Landscape to perform some hardscape construction in our backyard. The work was done well and the crew was very professional. We OK'd a contract for the work before it commenced. After it was done, Mr. Pearman came by to inspect and make sure we were OK with the work. We talked about additional projects we might do with him. A few days later we received an unitemized bill for several hundred dollars. When I called to ask what it was for I was told it was for the labor involved in the construction. At no time during our discussion of the projects, and nowhere on the contract was in mentioned that there would be a separate charge for "labor." We have worked with several contractors on the construction of our home and none of them did business in this way. We paid the additional charges but will not use him again. read more

I have had Robert and his crew do my yard for maybe more than 20 years. They always took care of my yard beautifully. It was a big yard with an ancient irrigation system that they maintained and repaired and repaired. They see something that needs to be done, and they do it after explaining to me what is wrong. I moved a year ago away from Saratoga to a smaller home in San Jose, that is beautifully landscaped, ut has artificial grass. So I didn't think 8 would need much maintenancw. I was wrong. Before I k ew it a jungle had sprouted and I had no clue which plants to prune, cut, fertilize, and even some that were probably dead, but I didn't know it. Pearman came back to me, and it looks more beautiful than ever. They replanted better suited plants, checked my irrigation and lights, fertilized, etc. don't need the lawn mown, but they did so much more than that.
