Chicken leg over rice includes veggies, a soup and I got some dessert tapioca thing. The soup was a beef bone broth with some herbal taste to it...even though it was mostly just broth, they include a couple of knuckles of meat that they cooked it with. Very hearty! The tapioca pudding is hot and had different kinds of veggies in it (looked like some kind of pumpkin and something else). It was sweeten just a tad and was a great palette cleanser. The Taiwanese cuisine here is delicious -- the owners are the only ones operating the restaurant and are super busy all the time. They don't answer the phone often given this but they noted their preference is for walk in orders. They're a bit slow in preparing the orders but they're also quite elderly and working on their own and it's clear this is a labor of love for them. The bento boxes and Taiwanese meals come with homemade soups -- either a sweet dessert soup or a savory one. This time we received a snow fungus red date longan dessert soup and a savory fishball ribs and daikon soup. Worth the money for the lunch box. For $11 you will get medium portion of Minced pork, Pork Chop, Veggies, 1 Taiwanese Sausage, bitter melon pork soup, and Soda. I also add 1 chicken leg (it is big, but it's not my preference). The lady, I think she's the owner, does everything by herself. So it is better to not call, just come to the store and pick it up. It is ready, I think it's because the lunch box is the fast selling food, so it's gonna be quick, waiting for 5 minutes only to get the food. No dine-in, everything for take out only. The best part about this restaurant isn't their super large portions nor the speed in which the food is prepared, but their complimentary soups with meals! I came to Pearl Garden for the first time with my family this past Sunday at 1:30pm. The 7 of us took all the seating this take out restaurant offered. Except for the Taiwanese selections, the menu looks like standard Chinese fare. Huge plastic containers came out filled with food. If you're looking for extra large portions, this is the place! If you're a light to moderate eater, you can easily share with another like minded person. In my family, whoever didn't eat their food took it home to serve as another meal. Love leftovers, really feels like you're getting your money's worth when you can stretch one meal into two. DH ordered the pork chop over rice which came with 2 pork chops, a tea egg, Chinese sausage, some veggies - a lot of food! I ordered the tofu and mixed vegetables, one of the only vegetarian options. My son ordered chicken and broccoli. All dishes came with a sweet and refreshing dessert soup. It was served hot but I wished they served it cold because the temperature was already in the high 80s and we needed something to cool, not warm ourselves. I hope places like Pearl Garden stay open forever. Sadly, I've been seeing more of these hole in the wall establishments with authentic home cooking and low prices close down, one after the other. There's a ton to like about this place and a few quirks you have to be aware of. First of all its a mom and pop shop literally; a nice old woman and a nice old man working the counter and working the kitchen. I'm kind of amazed that they're able to keep up but somehow they get it done. The food seems to be a mixed bag; my favorites are the porkchop and the chicken leg. The fried fish is decent but I tried the noodles and they were actually pretty bad. In terms of value its about 9-10 dollars for a big plate of food with plenty of meat; they also throw in free soup which is actually really solid. They're also kind of slow getting everything ready which is understandable given their age so definitely call ahead. Parking is actually pretty easy because its kind of in the middle of nowhere in college point; I doubt any meter maids actually check the few spots there. Overall a mixed bag but this place is in my rotation for a solid meal; go for the porkchop and thank me later. read more

The outside of the restaurant looks like the same as most Chinese takeout restaurants, small, outdated and dirty. However, the food in this place portion is huge and authentic Taiwanese style. Food rating 5 stars. The only downside is the lady takes order on the phone is very rude. I ordered hot sour chicken, she keeps emphasis their beef stew is great and hot sour chicken is Americanized take out. Fantastic Chinese takeout restaurant! Never thought I'd enjoy Chinese takeout, which I normally feel is way too greasy and inauthentic, but this place serves legit Taiwanese food at takeout speed, portions, and prices! Chicken leg over rice comes with greens; the chicken had flavor and was tender! Poultry is never my preferred protein, but this one was quite good. Fish over rice comes with greens; I'm not sure what type of fish this was but it was filet and boneless. The seasoning was just right; great lemony garlicky flavor. Also had the minced pork and bamboo over rice - also a solid choice. What truly sets this place apart is the choice of free soup/drink. I tried two of their soups: one sweet which was a classic white fungus soup with gogi berries and one savory which was a bitter melon soup with real pieces of meat. Both are authentic real soups that a Chinese mom/gradnma would make at home and both were actually true to their name! This is not the crappy hot and sour, wonton, egg drop soup that you get free at takeout restaurants. This was how "mom used to make it." The lady at the front barely speaks English so communicating is difficult. They do take card however, you have to pay tax. No tax with cash naturally. She had issues with the credit card machine telling me that I had no funds in my bank card. Then she ended up charging me 2x. Thankfully there was another customer who helped me with the language barrier as this was happening. The issue was resolved but still it was very annoying. Ps. This place is such a little gem! Looks like a typical takeout restaurant but check out their Taiwanese menu for the more authentic dishes. We got the pork chop over rice and the Taiwanese beef stew noodle soup since they seem to be highly recommended here on yelp. Pork chop over rice - First of all, this portion is so generous. I got several pieces of pork chop, a lot of veggies (bean curd with chives, and pickled cabbage) and also a tea egg. The pork chop itself is delicious! I was sad to see 66 in Flushing close down, which had the best pork chop rice in town, but I dare say this is a close contender! The flavor profile is different though, as this one is slightly sweet, almost having a bbq flavor. The meat is super juicy and not dry at all. There were some pieces that were quite fatty but I didn't mind just eating around it. The rice is not the best (a little mushy) but still edible. Beef stew noodle soup - The pieces of stewed beef and beef tendon were very tender, and I like how it comes with veggies. The soup looks pretty spicy and oily but it's actually quite mild. My husband said the noodles were too mushy, not quite the chewiness of hand-pulled noodles we're used to - and they had separated the soup for us since we were taking this to go so it's not like the noodles were sitting in the soup for a while. He did like the flavor of the soup, but it wasn't anything special. We might get this again over rice, but we will be skipping their noodle soup dishes. Our meals came with free soup that was actually pretty substantial. We had a choice of hot & sour soup, luo buo tang (daikon soup), or a sweet soup (which is more of a dessert soup; I asked what kind, and they said snow fungus). We both went with the luo buo tang, which had a ton of stuff in it - including spare ribs, bean sprouts, fish tofu, daikon of course, and other things. It was the best free soup I've ever had, comparable to the free soup at Mama Lee's in Bayside. The soup options probably vary every day, so I've got my fingers crossed for red bean soup next time I visit! The price of our dishes ($8-9) was pretty reasonable considering the portions and the free soup! They have limited seating inside and there is no bathroom, so it's more of a takeout place. It was pretty hot today and they didn't seem to have the ac on but it felt pretty cool in here. They get a nice breeze in here with the door open. We found parking right away out front, but we came at 3pm on a weekend. Food didn't take long either since it wasn't too busy. I've been SEARCHING for "The One" in terms of Taiwanese food in Flushing, a few kinda made the list (yeah right), but search no more...I'VE FOUND IT!!!! I would definitely say that this is as authentic as you can be for Taiwanese food in Flushing. I was hesitant when I was standing outside because it looked like a normal take out place. But, you could actual smell the food from across the street, it smells delicious! We got the chicken leg over rice and the friend noodle (mi-fan), both with great portion and taste awesome, it makes my mouth water again just as I'm writing this review. On top of it, the soup they gave us is quite good as well, wasn't expecting that at all. We'll try the pork chop, fish and beef dishes next time for sure! Very Good Three Cup Chicken (San Bei Ji) ($8.00) Chunks of chicken in a sweet soy sauce glaze over rice and including all the other goodies. Came here for takeout during COVID-19 quarantine time (April 2020) and we were so impressed with the food!! For $24 we got chicken leg over rice, fried pork chop over rice, and Taiwanese fried noodles. It also came with two seaweed spare ribs soups and a red bean dessert soup, as if the portions weren't huge enough!! The chicken leg was perfectly juicy and noodles were the bomb dot com. Even in these times where supply chains are down and getting all your groceries is hard, Pearl Garden still delivered on delicious huge Taiwanese dishes and speed (picked it up in 15 minutes). The door was closed and the lady opened it a crack to 1) take your money and 2) give you your bag of food.
