PC Land replaced my MacBook screen a couple months ago for around $800. The camera is part of the screen (all one unit), which I didn't know and wasn't explained to me. I hadn't needed to use the camera until this week for a Zoom job interview when I discover the camera doesn't work. They now refuse to replace the faulty screen I paid for with one that has a camera and are telling me I'd have to pony up another $800. Very angry and will never use them again. read more

I brought my laptop in to have the battery replaced and these lobotomized circus clowns overwrote MY ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM. The computer is basically unusable now. I might as well have paid them to wreck it with a sledgehammer. Don't use them. Ever. I temporarily relocated to Blacksburg and needed to get two monitors ASAP to get my WFH equipment up and running - this was basically the only store in town that had monitors in stock. I checked the other typical places and due to the Corona virus either stores were closed or out of inventory or would have days of delay to order. I went into PC land, the owner(?) was very helpful to find what i needed along with related accessories, even helped me carry them out to the car, and i got my two monitors hooked up and i was working with only 1.5 hours of PTO time. They buy quantities of used office equipment such as monitors, refurbish and resell - it's a great idea. They really came through for me. read more

Nice looking shop with decent seeming service but the prices are awful. I would've loved to leave with some stuff but sometimes some things were marked up past 2x or 3x what they would be worth. Pretty impressive selection though, and although not pictured, they did have some older computers(core 2 era) for ~30$ which wouldn't get you super far but if you needed a computer those would do the job. They also had a section for older game consoles/controllers that also impressed me. Overall though, I enjoyed my experience and would come here again to maybe try and negotiate the prices or purchase used parts. Their case selection is also pretty decent. I have been buying computers and parts for computers from this store for 10 years. They always have good prices, especially on refurbished computers and monitors. Really good selection for a small store. If it computer related, they probably have it, or can get it. These people know what they are talking about and are very friendly. Today was the first time I used their computer services. I dropped off my unit, explained the problem to the friendly tech. He took the time to listen to me, asked me a couple of questions and started checking it out. They said it would be a couple days, but they called me a few hours later, the same day, and it was fixed! They also found a failing hardware piece and replaced it too, after getting my ok. Overall service is a great value and I will use them again. They are true professionals. read more

Be prepared to pay extremely high prices only to find out what you purchased is non functional. Even best buy was cheaper than this place. Attempted to return my product only to find they have no return policy! This was visible on my receipt which read verbatim: "Effective Immediately all sales are final, no returns, no refunds, no exchanges. If you bought it, its yours. No exceptions. sorry in advance, this is your notice" This is in poor character. Why would they need to have such a stringent return policy if they were selling functional equipment? Further, a violation of Virginia law: "The return of goods for refund, exchange, or credit. Such disclosure shall be by means of a sign attached to the goods, or placed in a conspicuous public area of the premises of the supplier, so as to be readily noticeable and readable by the person obtaining the goods from the supplier. If the supplier does not permit a refund, exchange, or credit for return, he shall so state on a similar sign. The provisions of this subdivision shall not apply to any retail merchant who has a policy of providing, for a period of not less than 20 days after date of purchase, a cash refund or credit to the purchaser's credit card account for the return of defective, unused, or undamaged merchandise upon presentation of proof of purchase. I would have given this place one star, but they ended up providing me with a full refund due to my dissatisfaction and the poor job, so I wanted to temper my review. Basically, do NOT bring your product here if it is an Apple product. I probably wouldn't trust my other products here either, but certainly not an Apple product. Long and short of it is that they told me first it was hard drive problem and it would be done in a couple days, then it was hard drive and cable and over $200, then told me all my data is gone, then told me that my laptop is broken and encouraged me to buy their refurbished laptop-- Turns out I waited about a week later than they had told me it would be done to find out that was all wrong and another store (Audiotronics, Apple Certified store) fixed it in a day and for much cheaper. I got to keep my laptop and my data and pay much less by going for a second opinion. Basically, I came in as my Macbook Pro seemed to be having a hard drive failure. I called another repair shop and they told me they did not work on Macs, but PC Land does, so they advised I go here. PC Land told me it would be an easy fix. It was a Thursday, and they told me it would be done by Saturday, and if not Saturday, definitely Monday. I called Monday, they said they're working on it and it will take longer. Told me it was a hard drive failure common in this year and model. I called again multiple times, two days passed. Wednesday, they tell me it's my hard drive and cable and I'll need to pay more. I call again Thursday, it's not finished and it's a full week late, and I never would have expected that. They express doubt that they will be able to recover any of my data. I call Friday, and they say they will give up by the end of the day and they think the laptop is broken. I come in Friday evening (It was supposed to be done the preceding Saturday, so incredibly long delay), and I am informed that the laptop is almost certainly broken and all my data will likely be lost. They speculate it could be the motherboard too, but that would cost a lot. They encourage me to buy one of their refurbished laptops though. I want to get a second opinion so I ask where I can go. I find out they are not Apple certified as they tell me Audiotronics is Apple certified and can look at it, but they also tell me they have cheaper parts. Even if this is true, it did not help that they had cheaper parts as PC Land was going to charge me $200+ for fixes that were not a problem and Audiotronics charged me $99 by figuring out there was a much smaller issue. Audiotronics takes it in, notes how easy of a fix it is, and fixes it in a day. I return to PC Land, tell them how unsatisfactory the service was here and that it was an easy fix, and they give me a refund. I would strongly discourage going here. read more

When AppleCare told me I had to wait three days to get an appointment 45 minutes away from me to get my Macbook looked at, a friend referred me to PC Land. They solved my issue almost immediately and talked me through the problem, explaining what needed to be done and why. Very reasonably priced, saved a lot of $$, definitely would have gotten shaken down for more money anywhere else. Answered all my questions and got my computer back immediately repaired!! read more

I hadn't upgraded in a WHILE. went to PC Land they took great care of me. took my existing hard drives and installed them in beautiful rainbow LED case with all new guts. computer is a dream. A real bargain as well. The system they built me runs high end VR. I didn't have to take a crowbar to wallet to get it. oh yeah it took them less than a day to this. I've been in here a couple times. Fair enough prices and a surprisingly good selection for a small store. The employees I've spoken to know their stuff with regards to computers. There's a good chance they have what you're looking for here. They have a good selection of cables, adapters, oem software and parts. They sell computers too. The prices on the computers they sell are often better than you'd find at other places. Avoid the discount jewelry. It's not up to par with the quality of the rest of their merchandise. read more

PC Land is pretty good, and I use them quite a bit. They are usually more expensive than Newegg + Shipping, but if you need a part immediately, they are much better than anything else around. They can also service your equipment, and while they aren't fantastic at it, they are certainly better than Best Buy or some mega store like that. If you know what you're doing, you already know where to get stuff online for cheaper (newegg, compuplus, pricegrabber, etc). But if you want someone to talk to about the product, if you can't do it yourself and need to get your stuff serviced, or if your rig suddenly fries something and you need a new part today, use PC Land. Now that Tech-Era is gone, they are the best place in a 25 mile radius. ______________________ Of note, they are quite interesting characters. The shop is owned by a Chinese family that also works there and yells at each other in Chinese on occasion. They also decided it would be logical to diversify into pearls. Not the programming language, I mean, pearls, the hard, round object produced within a living shelled mollusk that is used for jewelry. Literally, next to the hard-drives, is the pearl jewelry. Also, they held a friends Windows CD hostage once, for a Yanni CD. Back in the mid-1990s, a friend had them install Windows 95 (there wasn't anything better...). He gave them the disc, they did the install, gave the pc back, but in the CD-ROM was a copy of Yanni - Live at the Acropolis. Apparantly they were setting the OS up while listening to Yanni... and forgot it. So when he asked for his Windows disc, before they even confirmed that they had it, the asked if he had the Yanni disc. They then demanded that he bring back Yanni, or they wouldn't give him the Windows disc. Seriously. :) read more

Through the years I've gone to them with all kinds of computer issues and have always had them solved. Went in to find a 4gb ram card for an older (six years) model HP laptop. They were able to find a used ram card for a very reasonable price, and it works great in my laptop I have, saved me so much money not buying from an internet supplier. They also said if it didn't work in my machine to bring it back in for a full refund. I will definitely return to this store if I need any other parts for my computers. A+! read more

This is a great computer store, very convenient to Blacksburg. You have to realize this store "is what it is." It sells cheap home-built PCs, used PCs, peripherals, cables, hard disks, etc. I've gone in there and very frequently I get what I need and I am out of there in 10 minutes and the price is right. I have not tried their computer repair service because I don't need it, I get all of that at my workplace. Once I needed a new laptop hard drive, and I wanted to put my old one in an external box. They sold me the box and then the woman asked me whether I had my old hard drive with me, and when I said yes, she offered to put it into the external box for me for free. Very nice people that work there. The place is a bit helter-skelter with bins of stuff on the floor, rather disorganized racks of merchandise, kind of like a dollar store or a Chinese grocery store -- only for computers, not food. read more
