It had restarted so many times that some security feature was preventing all logins. First, they had to solve the login problem by cracking Windows security. Then they ran diagnostic tests that revealed RAM faults, requiring a new motherboard. In a few days, the new motherboard arrived, and now the computer is back home and working perfectly. This is the same sort of experience I've had before with the Computer Technology Center, so I was not surprised. Their office is open--they don't take your machine to another room. They'll do the diagnosis right in front of you. If the repair is simple, they'll make the repair while you watch. This openness gives one great confidence in their work. The price for the work was very reasonable. I hope I don't have another computer failure soon, but when I do, there's no question where I will go.

How many businesses these days do you know of that actually combine integrity and skill to deliver what they say they will - and at a reasonable cost? If you read the About section on their website, it mentions personal relationships with customers. That's no sales pitch - it's true. I've only had sporadic computer issues over the years and, amazingly, every time I've spoken with him, it's like talking to a friend. He knows his customers! Couple that with the fact that Sam broke away from the corporate world to bring his skills directly to the public and he's definitely earned my loyalty.

I found the basic price for service at $99 to be more than reasonable, though I was told that it would take about two weeks for my computer to be diagnosed. I paid the $75 expediting fee and given a timeframe of 2-3 days before diagnosis. I was then happy to get a call from them the next day with the diagnosis and plan of action. The day after that, my computer was ready for pickup, good as new. Overall, very happy with the experience.

It wasn't a cheap machine but like so many things in life, it was past its warranty period. Finding good tech help, like finding a good mechanic, electrician, or plumber, can be difficult. I turned to Yelp for help (yes, I am a poet!) and found that DNS, a small storefront shop on Greenmount Ave, just a few blocks from where I live, had great reviews. After showing up a few times when they weren't open (yes, check their open hours, only a few days a week, and then only for a few hours each day) I went by today and met the head tech Jack. He was with another customer who clearly had been coming to him for a while, and I listened as he carefully and thoughtfully ran through her issues, made sure she was clear on what was happening, and then offered to stay open a few minutes late if she needed when her repair was ready. He quickly diagnosed the issue (a charger that may or may not be working correctly) and since the charger I brought with me seemed ok offered to send me on my way. I decided to purchase a replacement charger from him just in case and his price was better than I could have gotten online. A few other notes - he has many services and their prices posted on the wall - this is super helpful. Second, he offers a discount to teachers - something I am always in favor of. Honest, good-natured, reasonably priced? Yeah DNS has all of that. The storefront is easy to miss, but if you need quality repairs for your machine, this should be your first stop.
