My daughter's (a Johns Hopkins student) laptop charging plug broke off in the charging port the other day. She and I checked with some other local repair places, and got [phone] estimates of $99 and up, and $80 and up..."depending". She also tried the campus techies, and was told "We aren't licensed to work on Lenovo" (I was not aware a special license is needed to pull a broken plug out of a Lenovo laptop! I wonder who monitors that?! ) Today she took it to DNS Technology Group, a few blocks from campus. Fixed it in a few minutes, 25 bucks! And super-nice people, according to my daughter. I just had my laptop repaired here. It took me three weeks in total, but it was not the owner's fault. The supply center for my laptop brand screwed up delivery of replacement parts twice, and I had to wait for its delivery for repair. The owner did advise me to settle with a cheaper option, but when I insisted on replacing all the necessary parts, he maintained good communication with me, and got the repair done within 24 hours of receiving the replacement parts. I was also offered a 10% discount for the delay. I think I will still mark this as my ideal laptop support place. read more

I love to support local businesses when I can, and recently I was in need of an expert to look at youngest kids laptop. We tried a few chargers and it didn't seem to be charging. It wasn't a cheap machine but like so many things in life, it was past its warranty period. Finding good tech help, like finding a good mechanic, electrician, or plumber, can be difficult. I turned to Yelp for help (yes, I am a poet!) and found that DNS, a small storefront shop on Greenmount Ave, just a few blocks from where I live, had great reviews. After showing up a few times when they weren't open (yes, check their open hours, only a few days a week, and then only for a few hours each day) I went by today and met the head tech Jack. He was with another customer who clearly had been coming to him for a while, and I listened as he carefully and thoughtfully ran through her issues, made sure she was clear on what was happening, and then offered to stay open a few minutes late if she needed when her repair was ready. He quickly diagnosed the issue (a charger that may or may not be working correctly) and since the charger I brought with me seemed ok offered to send me on my way. I decided to purchase a replacement charger from him just in case and his price was better than I could have gotten online. A few other notes - he has many services and their prices posted on the wall - this is super helpful. Second, he offers a discount to teachers - something I am always in favor of. Honest, good-natured, reasonably priced? Yeah DNS has all of that. The storefront is easy to miss, but if you need quality repairs for your machine, this should be your first stop. These guys are great! Really professional, and not at all expensive. They explain everything they're doing, and give you decision making power. My jack and case broke for my laptop, and there was a cheap and an expensive way to fix it. Both options were way cheaper than any other store would have charged ( I checked ). Instead of going straight to expensive, they gave me the options and were honest about the chances of it not working. Basically, they glued my power jack in place, which is tricky. They could have just made me pay to replace the whole bottom case of the laptop. Anyways, it works beautifully and cost me 1/3 of what I expected. Id recommend anyone to check them out. Professional, honest, quick, and fairly priced. I took my laptop to DNS after accidentally dropping it. The screen was not working and I asked the representative to see if it was worth fixing. Upon initial inspection, it looked as if the screen needed to be replaced, a service that would surely be costly since it was a touch screen. However, after keeping it for the weekend, the technician called me back saying that the only problem was a loose internal cable. The total cost of the service was a fraction of what the new screen would have been. As a consumer, I value their honesty as they could have easily replaced the screen and charged me the expensive repair costs. Highly recommended. read more

DNS Technologies was amazing! I brought my laptop in after having downloaded a virus, the owner knew right away what the problem was and had it fixed in 24 hours. In addition to this he provided me with a top notch security program thzat was easy to use at home. The total cost of all the services left a single mother protected agaisnt future attacks and with money in the bank.
