I went to Best Buy initially (I don't know why, maybe I was feeling particularly stupid and thick-headed at the time) and was told that to repair a broken LCD on a 400 dollar laptop would cost...300 dollars. Also, they would have to mail it in to the repair center. I asked why it was so expensive, and the guy said "well, LCDs are really expensive, so the part alone is 200 dollars". I was thinking, ok, who the fuck falls for this crap from a pasty dickwad like this guy? Who would ever think an LCD screen was more than 80 bucks on amazon or ebay? This is why Best Buy is going out of business. The employees that work there are shit. The products are generally shit (unless you firmly deny geek squad protection, warranty protection, repair plans, 5 year soul sucking plans, etc), and honestly they operate on the assumption that Americans are stupid. Yo, Best Buy, we have wikipedia and google, man. Stop being so 1999. Anyway, I called up Charm City Networks, and they said "yeah the part is like 60-80 bucks, but you can buy it online and bring it in and we just charge for labor". They charged 100 bucks for labor(fair enough) and so I went in to see if it was just the LCD that had a problem. They checked the computer, fixed it within a day, and I picked it up the next day after lunch. It was as easy and painless as possible, and affordable as hell. The guys that work there are very nice and helpful, and generally will go out of their way to make sure you have a great customer experience. Everything in that last paragraph is the exact opposite of Best Buy...which is why I recommend these guys for any computer/laptop hardware repair work. read more

I'm not a tech-idiot, but when my 5 year old laptop died recently while I was visiting Baltimore, I didn't have the time to try to figure out what was wrong myself. I'm planning on replacing it soon, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money salvaging this one, but I still need it for the next few months and I definitely needed it fixed during my stay in Baltimore. First, I took it to Best Buy where they told me I needed a whole new system board. For what it would have cost to replace that, I would be better off just putting the money in my new laptop fund. When I brought it to the guys at Charm City Networks, they didn't talk to me like an idiot and didn't do the "let me wave my hand over this and diagnose this as the biggest part that could possibly be broken" thing. They actually opened up my computer, found the one component that was busted and told me how much it would be to replace just that. The whole thing ended up costing me a fraction of what Best Buy was going to charge me and the turn-around time was just as long as it took them to get the new part delivered. read more

Six months ago I went to Charm City Networks to get my home WiFi reconfigured with a more powerful router. I have had trouble accessing the internet from all parts of the house. A technician came to my house and in one hour I was up and running with the best access to the internet that I have had ever--in over 10 years. I was so pleased to have a company only a few blocks from my house that could out perform any computer people I have had in the past, including tech-support people on-line. Since then I have had several problems pop up (unrelated to the installation on the first visit) that I was unable to solve myself despite being fairly computer literate. I identified 5 problems and gave Charm City Networks a call yesterday afternoon. We agreed on 10 the next day. This morning they were at my door at the exact time and quickly solved all my problems. Here are a few words I have to sum up my impression of Charm City Networks: KNOWLEDGEABLE, EFFICIENT, FRIENDLY, REASONABLE, LOCAL. I urge anyone within their range of service to give them a try. Excellent service. The computer technicians were knowledgeable. They quickly figured out what was wrong with my computer, ordered the part and installed it the day it arrived. They were quick to respond to communications whether via phone or email. They fixed my MacBook Pro fast. The run around I got when I called Apple and when I went to the Apple Store was ridiculous. Apple said the fastest they could do the job was at least 2 weeks. In highly recommend this place. I won't be going anywhere else if I have problems in the future. read more

Heck. Yes. Being a cheap skate with an awesome video card, I had it coming. I rocked quite a few torrents and I guess one of the russian versions of an epic adventure game didn't take too kindly to my pc and proceeded to trash it. I did everything I could find online to get rid of it, but it was a mean sucker. After a few days of teetering between slightly fixing my computer and ruining it all together, I finally gave up and googled Baltimore PC repair. These folks came up and I gave them a shot. Extremely glad I did! Within a little over a day they fixed everything on my computer and managed to save all of my documents! 6 months later, I'm having computer issues again. This time, the hard drive failed me. I sent it back to Charm City Networks, and although they weren't able to bring my drive back from the dead, they did manage to salvage the rest of my computer, reinstall all the essentials I needed to get back on my feet, and worked with me to find the most affordable quality drive I could get. These guys were very patient and knowledgeable and they def. weren't lying to me. At no point did they say "gigawatts" or tell me I needed a new hemi, or try to scam me in any way. And considering the amount of work they've done for me, their flat rate of $99 is frankly a steal. read more

Highly recommended, they are professional and courteous. The free diagnostic for computer repairs is enough reason to give them a shot. My laptop only needed a new battery so I left without paying a dime. Next time I have any computer issue, I will certainly go back. read more

On the airplane. Using the mac. Working on an important powerpoint the day before a huge presentation. All of a sudden: APPLE SCREEN OF DEATH. I got back to Baltimore and looked up these guys on Yelp. Great reviews. Brought the laptop to them and they got it up and running AND replaced the hard drive in a very timely manner. My budget is super tight and they repaired EVERYTHING under $190 (including the new hardware). AMAZING! They were so friendly and helpful and even gave me some great restaurant recommendations. My laptop was on the verge of death - taking five to ten minutes to open a program, crashing, just making life miserable. Charm City Networks was able to fix it within a few days for a reasonable price. However, I think they could stand to be better organized. I brought in my computer in a laptop bag I'd borrowed from my husband (I walked there, and couldn't very well haul a laptop in my arms down Key Highway). When it came time to pick up the laptop, the bag wasn't with it, and the employee asked me repeatedly if I had really brought a bag. Eventually it was located - with another customer's computer, meaning they very well might have given away my bag if I'd gotten there later in the day. Then, when I got home, I realized they hadn't included my mouse - fortunately, an employee was able to drop it off at my home after a bit of back and forth about how I should return to pick it up, which is a bit much considering it wasn't my mistake. They also goofed and somehow started routing their support calls to my cell phone, meaning I spent a few days fielding calls from some very confused customers. Overall, I'd use their services again, but I wish they weren't so careless with my belongings. They really need a system to keep customers' things safe and organized. If I need to go back, I'll take my laptop only with no accessories. read more

I found these guys on yelp and decided to give them a try. They are fantastic! I dropped my laptop of on Friday and they had it set by Tuesday. My issue ended up being caused by my power cord for my laptop. They gave me a used cord to fix the problem, and they refused to take any money! Best Buy am Lenovo came in at a minimum $500 repair for a set of cracked hinges and frame on able Novo laptop. Charm city networks Smashed the competition and got the job done for 200. They were extremely informative and upfront with timeline and potential charges/estimate. Highly recommend these guys for computer repair. They know their stuff read more

My desktop computer crashed loosing most, it not all of its data. John and Liordan were able to were able to get it up and running in a very timely manner. When I brought the computer home, I was still missing some very critical data that they could not have been aware of. When I called them, John linked into my computer and found the data which saved months of work if it had been necessary to re-enter it. They did not charge me for that call.
