Two biscuit breakfast
Doretta W.

Have to love a hometown cafe that gets the coffee and the biscuits done right! The location is small, friendly and old fashion. I had the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits ... great value at two for under $7. I had to break off a piece of the biscuit first to see what I was in for .. soft inside, good texture outside, butter flavor with a hint of salt. Yep .. this breakfast was not going to disappoint. I have to add that the bacon was thick and cooked perfectly as the fat was crispy and flavorful but not burnt. The coffee was strong and not bitter. The service was friendly and fast. You can tell the locals frequent this place from the conversations the staff has with the customers.

We were staying in Radford at a local B&B and they recommended walking to this place for breakfast. When we saw it we were worried. The outside windows look like a car that got decorated by seniors going to the state finals.... But we went in anyway. The inside is very homey..... I was greeted by the owner Samantha (although I didn't know it at the time). The inside doesn't have many tables but we felt very spacious and had plenty of room. Lots of wood and sparse decorations.... The waitress came immediately, started us with hot coffee that never stopped coming. We ordered the "rise and shine", "biscuits and gravy" and " chicken and waffles". The service was lighting fast! The food came out very quickly and it was apparent that everything was scratch made. The eggs, bacon were very good as expected, the biscuits and pancakes were fluffy and flavorful, the gravy was super tasty too. What was very surprising was the chicken and waffles!! Very very good! Chicken was crispy but tender, and the waffles were moist on the inside and crusty on the outside with syrup. All really good! We went again the next day and had the veggie soup and salad. The soup was made from scratch too! Super tasty! Altogether I was impressed by Samantha's place. Don't be fooled by the exterior. This is the place to be!! Food is great!!!! I'll be going there again tomorrow! I look forward to trying the sandwiches because they look great too!!

Breakfast Burger

incredible. i have tried at least 10 different items on the menu and they have all been amazing. The one guy really runs the whole show, he is so attentive and sociable. The restaurant is so cute, quite small but you can usually get a table quite quickly.

3 eggs sausage patties and fried potatoes

Was stopping in Radford and craving breakfast. Scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly and generous amount of cheese , sausage patties were a delight and fried potatoes were decent. Overall good breakfast and fast.

Food and service is always good here. Nothing fancy just home style country cooking. Exactly what you want sometimes.

Breakfast was ok. Not the worst I've had. Pricey for a local place but it's in a college town so expected that. Zero ambiance.

Excellent meal, good service. Ate at the Radford staples of Sals and Sharkeys during work trip, beat both with quality of meal.

If you're into Southern Home Cooking then The Blacksburg Tavern In Blacksburg, Virginia is sure to…read moreknock your socks off. They offer a nationally acclaimed menu that's been featured on NPR, Southern Living Magazine and even the ACC Network. They offer their own parking lot in the rear A huge rarity in a college area. It was clean and maintained. It was a treat to meet the owner in front of the tavern tending to landscaping needs. The historic homes facade presents beautifully. There is also outdoor seating. Our party of seven enjoyed a Sunday brunch while knowing little about the establishment. We were promptly greeted with a smile and menus and seated on the front room. Each of the four interior rooms has a fireplace and nostalgic photos adorn the walls. They also have a small bar with a focus on bourbon. The menu had one hit after another with authentic Southern cooking. The description calls it a "Traditional Regional Farmers Menu."No question the fried chicken is the hero. Five out of seven got the fried chicken. Others the chili and meatloaf. A plate of biscuits and cornbread were placed on the table after drinks placed. The history of the tavern on the menu is worthy of your time. The owner, originally from Blacksburg moved from California to restore for his own home. Later opening the restaurant. His goal to keep the structure original and true to purpose as a tavern. The owner himself comes from a family of tavern proprietors. I digress too long! The FOOD ALREADY!!! Well as you have probably already guessed it was impressive and exceeded my expectations. Every main, every side was a home run. From the mash potatoes & gravy to the macaroni & cheese, backed apples and green beans, to the rarely found succotash. All fabulous! Only starter was ham biscuits which were good. Mains of chili and meatloaf strong. But it was the fried chicken that brings local and tourist alike in the door. The chicken was cooked up to perfection and deliciously moist The breading was exceptional as well with no dripping grease and a medium crispy finish. The only desert ordered was the brownie & ice-cream. So yummy! The owner Daniel checked in on us before departing which made our experience even more special. The Blacksburg Tavern is a Southwestern Virginia gem that's a must to dine at. Checkout was efficient and prices affordable for large quality dishes. I will return later this year and hope to catch live music. Highly recommend.

I'm in town visiting a childhood friend and we came here for dinner. As we were walking to the…read moreTavern, I noticed a cute little house that didn't match the other architectural designs of the other establishments in the area (brick and "modern" looking buildings). I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!

Tucked away in the heart of Pembroke, Virginia, Bluegrass BBQ delivers everything you'd hope for…read morefrom a true small-town gem. From the perfectly seasoned fried fish to the smoky, flavorful jerk pulled chicken, every bite tasted like it was made with pride. And then came the surprise star of the meal--the hush puppies. Crispy and golden on the outside, warm, soft, and pure comfort on the inside. What truly made this experience unforgettable was Albert, better known as "Vinny de Vincent." His passion for cooking is contagious. As he shared the story behind his recipes, his cooking process, and his vision of serving both his community and the world, it became clear that this is more than a restaurant--it's a story of second chances, reinvention, and purpose served on a plate. His hospitality made us feel like family the moment we walked through the door. If you're looking for authentic Southern flavor, genuine hometown hospitality, and a meal prepared with heart, Bluegrass BBQ earns a well-deserved 5 out of 5 from me. The inside is quaint, comfortable and has decor that is well done. It has a small town feel and is lively with laughter and conversation. The food was fantastic! The meats were well smoked and not fatty, the catfish was perfectly lightly breaded and crispy, the baked beans were smoky and well seasoned, the cole slaw was light and perfectly perfected, the green beans were just like my grandmothers and the star of the food was the mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were well seasoned, not overly sweet and melted in your mouth. The best part of the visit was the people. The servers were great, the cook staff were working together well.
