Tom's has stepped up their game lately, big time!! I've always liked the place well enough, but it's recently taken the spot as my favorite restaurant in Pulaski area. The inside got all new seating which is much better than what they had before, the food quality and quantity for what you're paying is just excellent, and the workers are clean, fast, and very friendly. You could always stay out in your car and have them come take your order there if you're tired (or, let's face it...lazy. It's okay, I'm lazy too sometimes), but I always just head on inside for a nice sit down meal. Tom's is the diner food you want to eat everyday. Fresh, juicy burgers, best green beans I've had in years, and the brown gravy is to die for. It goes perfectly with their mashed potatoes (also freshly made and delicious.) They have daily specials and desserts that change all the time. If you're ever in the Pulaski area, make sure you stop by Tom's Drive In. Also, Lee Highway right beside Tom's is a nice scenic drive. I love a good drive-in, in fact I seek them out and maintain a list, and Tom's Drive-In certainly fits the bill. Nestled in the side of a hill in Pulaski, the unassuming building sends out good food at a good price, a formula for success no matter the locale, the menu, or the clientele. Fast, friendly service with hot, fresh food delivered right to your window, or to the table should you decide to go indoors, is all a diner can ask for. Burgers are a good baseline for a drive-in, the toes in the water before jumping all the way in. Get the burger wrong, and there is little reason to go forward without some convincing. Luckily, Tom's gets the burger right. We're not talking anything spectacular here, but it's right off the grill, steaming hot, and well worth the money. The patties are basic, likely preformed and so on, but properly seasoned, prepared to order, and cooked well. For a good size burger, the double quarter-pound cheeseburger is more than satisfactory. The fries that accompany any good burger can actually be described in similar terms: a standard, generic crinkle cut variety, piping hot and ready to go. The fries are not seasoned much upon delivery, so make sure to ask for enough salt to suit your tastes. The pleasant surprise of the visit was the Saturday special, their so-called Philly Cheesesteak. I am extremely picky when it comes to a Philly, a purist who believes that certain details (such as cheese selection and extra condiments) can disqualify the proper usage of the Philly name. There are many steak and cheese sandwiches but only one way to truly make a Philly. Regardless of the absolute authenticity, the sub at Tom's is packed with tender meat, peppers, and onions, and the final product is, quite honestly, better than expected. Sure, I have a bit of a gripe when it comes to the cheese being used, because only Cheez Whiz should be on a Philly, but it's a very good steak and cheese sandwich on a fresh roll. Just make sure to ask for mayo as it is not included, but is necessary to add the missing element to the sub. All in all, nothing beats a flavorful and fresh $6.00 meal that fills you up without putting a serious dent in the wallet. Tom's is open year round but a drive-in is always linked to summer nights with music and friends. Pulaski is fortunate to have a place such as this. If you're a native, or just passing through as I was for baseball, do yourself a favor and pull into Tom's for a bite to eat before a night under the lights just across the street at Calfee Park, taking in the sights and sounds of America's pastime and sneering at every Virginia Tech fan you see... like a good American should. read more

My friend and I visited Tom's before a Minor League baseball game a few weeks ago. I ordered the Saturday special: Philly Cheesesteak with fries and a soda. The sub roll was hot and fresh, the meat tender with light seasoning, and the onions and peppers added just enough to the sandwich without overtaking the flavor. My only complaint is that the fries left a lot to be desired. They were your standard crinkle cut French fries, and were absent of any sort of seasoning. Luckily they were hot and fresh, which did make up for the blandness. (Salt is provided in packets with the meal, along with ketchup...so I guess I shouldn't complain too much) All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with Tom's and will eat there again if I find myself in Pulaski. Will add that our server (didn't catch his name) was polite and very patient while we were looking over the menu. Our food was delivered in a timely manner and the price was unbeatable for the quality of food. read more

I have been going here for years but I just had an awful experience here waiting for my food for an hour and only to watch others that came after us get my burger wth then the owner Lori Caudill gives me an attitude after we fed up with waiting. Almost like a I don't care and just go away attitude . Hey I live in radford and wanted a toms burger and came to Pulaski for only one reason passing many places to grab a burger.They really disappointed me an my family.But Sonic took my business tonight. Tom's is a staple of Pulaski Va. I've been gone from there for nearly 30 years, but make a trip or two back home every year, so Tom's is like a pilgrimage of sorts for me.
