I booked a car rental from here online and then I went on to yelp the next day and thought "omg what have I done? 2 stars? I should have just paid more and booked with a company I've actually heard of." I booked on Priceline.com for 4 days ($40 per day but with taxes and fees the price went up to $266.58). There is a $250 deposit on the rental which seems standard. I was refunded the amount on return. *LOCATION* because of the new NOLA airport being built off site, ALL car rental locations are still located at the old airport. You have to take a shuttle which is right outside of the main entrance from the new airport. The shuttle comes about every 5-10 mins and is about a 10 minute ride to the location. I would factor this in for your trip if you're in a rush to get somewhere upon landing. *CHECK-IN* So honestly the goal is to get to the counter before everyone else on the bus otherwise there's a mega long wait. I ran and got there second but was helped within 2 mins. The process was pretty efficient and the cashier was really friendly. The entire process took about 15 minutes filling out information even though I had a prior reservation. Once everything is processed, they tell you which slot your car is in and you just go to your car! I can see the lines backing up however if there is a huge amount of people on the tram over. I booked for a Nissan Versa but instead I got a Honda Civic instead which was a pleasant upgrade! The car was quite dirty when I received it (see photos). The cup holders had garbage in it, the seats had dirt both in the front and back seats and the drink had a ton of garbage. The car also had something scraping on the bottom of the car so whenever I drove on any low ground, I could hear it scrape. I think it was the oil change flap which is an easy fix. The car itself was super nice! I loved the plug in function with my phone where I could use the GPS function on the cars touch screen. I was very paranoid because it was a low budget car rental company that I figured they would probably try to nickel and dime me and try to charge me for the mess in the car. I took lots of photos prior to getting into the car just incase they were going to accuse me of the mess (although I did clean it all up before returning the car). Also took pictures of all of the scratched on the car beforehand so I wouldn't be liable. When I returned the car, I got my full deposit back without them giving me any hassle. *RETURN* Super easy. Just pulled into the garage and there is an agent to scan the car and you are good to go immediately. No need to go to the front desk or anything. Took less than 1 min. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, I had a very positive experience with this company. Was expecting a lot of hassle especially with checking in time, condition of the car and to be charged a bunch tick tack things in the car and have to deal with a bunch of customer service after but I didn't! I would definitely book with this company again in the future. Other than the car being dirty when I got it, I really had no other problems. read more

Typical of a cost cutting exercise. Provide low cost rentals but don't have the staff to deal with demand. 1.5hrs in-line to pick up a car. Half my day wasted. read more

Paid for a mid-sized SUV, listed as a Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar. I'm sorry, but a Ford Escape and a Chevy TRAX are NOT the same as a Jeep Grand Cherokee. For $700, this is not what I paid for. read more

WOULD NO RECOMMEND Avoid this car rental company whatever you do. There were so many bogus fees added on top of my prepaid Expedia charges after I dropped the rental car off !! Just save your sanity and pick another company. Any reason for them to charge you fees then opens you up to being charged more fees. read more

Hi, I had a blast with the front end tram at the counter, look I got in on Tuesdays January 7 2020 from the the Bay Area. Immediately they took notice to My 49ers hat and were a bit salty due to the Saints not winning and we wow the game against them. But I had to rub it and put it in THICK, we had a good time laughs and jokes. At the end of the check in I noticed that they took real good care of the Bay Boi. A red Mustang, THANKS A LOT Eli BLACK BEAUTIFUL QUEENS. read more

Rented via AARP Expedia online. At Nee Orleans airport they were shown as Budget/Payless. When tire went flat neither would help. AARP should take Payless off their vendors list immediately! read more

Car was great on gas. I had a Toyota Camry problem was, it was not that clean in the inside and smelled a little. Cars don't have to be newer, but if they could clean the inside, that would make a big difference. read more

The Payless location used by the New Orleans Airport is horrible. For one, there is no signage to indicate the location of the check in desk for Payless. You have to be psychic and intuit the fact it's part of the Avis desk. Then you go upstairs to get your "express vehicle " located in stall A17 only to find there are no cars in A17. The only thing you'll find is a grumpy old guy who doesn't even speak when addressed and a line of other dopes fooled into thinking they were "express " customers, too. So I eventually figured out Mike Ehrmentrout (grumpy old man) was not going to volunteer instructions, so I went and stood at the back of the line and have been waiting an inordinate amount of time awaiting the arrival of my "express" rental. read more

We rented a car via Priceline.com for Payless, because it was a smokin' deal compared to the other car rental places (at least initially, before the monster fees and taxes get taken into account!). When we arrived at the rental desk at the airport, there was no one there, so we had to wait. A desk attendant showed up soon after, made small talk with us, then sent us upstairs to the parking deck to pick up our car. Once we got upstairs, this is where they lose the majority of their stars. We had a 45 minute wait to get our car! People were coming after us, and they were getting their cars before us. We told the attendant about our wait time, and he kept reassuring us that the car was coming. Well, it never seemed to appear, even though the porters kept bringing up cars for the people after us. We eventually got the car, and from there is was smooth sailing. It was a Toyota Corolla and it drove nicely. Dropping off the car was also seamless. Overall, if you plan to rent from this company, give yourself PLENTY of time to get your car, and bring a fan for yourself, because you'll be standing in the stagnant humid air in that parking garage for awhile -- which makes you sweat buckets! read more

Airport counter service (off site) is unbelievably SLOW. If we have reservations, why are they taking so long to process info? I'm still in line (not many customers ahead of me) after 30 minutes. Two agents - one looking very much wanting to be somewhere else. These are not happy people and I'm watching the customers at the counter walk away, shaking their heads. Lord, please spare me. read more

I'd never heard of these guys, but they had the best price on AARP's travel service, so I gave 'em a try. BIG mistake. I made the reservation a month ago, but when I got to the rental counter, a bored and dejected-looking employee told me "We don't have any cars." NO cars? Thinking she hadn't heard me, I said again that I'd made a reservation. "Well, we might get one in 20-30 minutes, but not for sure, if you're in a hurry, you might want to try someone else." No apology, nothing. In this case it's true-you do get what you pay for. read more

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for a more legit company. The service was rude and so slow especially considering we had a reservation. We stood in front of our agent while she typed for 15 minutes without any communication. Super frustrating experience. read more

We rented a car from Payless at New Orleans Airport. Everything went fine until we were rear-ended our second day driving. My daughter and wife were both suffering headaches from the impact. Since the car was undriveable, I asked for a replacement rental car to be delivered to us. They said fine. I called back and confirmed. They said yes, a car will be delivered to you. When the tow-truck finally arrived they instructed me that I needed to return to the airport with the tow truck driver. I refused - it was an hour round trip, and I had been dealing with the police report, etc. for a big part of the day. They towed the car and didn't return a vehicle to me. Now I'm in New Orleans without a car. If you rent from them you might be very sorry - I am. read more

The attendants was rude and very unprofessional don't rent a car from here. I had reservations and a young lady who gave me a false name when i asked and didnt even have a proper uniform on but did have a black polo shirt with a christian men ministry shirt and she act as if i was bugging her at work.,,, and had the nerve to roll her eyes at me when i had questions about my reservation. Strongly suggest not to deal with Budget and its payless program read more

Payless Car Rental - Car Rental Near Me - Kenner, Louisiana

I travel to Chicago frequently and always use Payless Car Rental, so when I traveled New Orleans for a conference, it seemed natural to choose Payless for my car rental. WHAT A GIANT MISTAKE!!! And, I actually ended up just canceling the reservation and using Avis instead, even though I ended up paying more. The customer service was abysmal. The confirmation I had printed out and the reservation in their system, didn't match and there was no other conversation than you have to pay more because that's what the computer said. They didn't have a car in the class I reserved available, and NO thank you, I don't want a mini-van instead! After not getting any compassion or help at the service counter, I ended up calling the 800 number, and fortunately, while I was on hold, I made a new reservation with Avis using my smartphone. The guy behind the 800 number was nothing short of an axxhole. For a few dollars more, I had a great experience renting from Avis. I'll probably use them on my next trip to Chicago too! read more

DO NOT USE THEM! I REPEAT DO NOT USE THEM!!!! Our plane landed at 10:45 pm, we scheduled to pick up our reserved car at 11:00 pm. By the time we got our luggage and walked to their kiosk( which was quite a walk) we arrived at thier kiosk at 11:02. They were closed!!!! The agent from Budget informed us they were closed. If they close at 11:00, why would you schedule a pick up at your closing time???? Thankfully Budget was able to rent us a larger car at a cheaper rate. I wish I could give them 0 stars!!! read more

MSY New Orleans airport was Horrible!! Houston Hobby airport Sandra was awesome. No true direction when returning, they didn't answer any phone calls and then I waited at the counter for over an hour while waiting for someone to come get the keys for return!! Worst experience ever! But I would like to thank the Houston Hobby employee Sandra for being professional and clear during pick up. read more

Been waiting 20 minutes and still ...no one has acknowledged me. Probably the worst customer service of any rental car company ever ( and I travel a lot). Unless forced...I will NEVER EVER do business with this company again . Guess you get what you pay for... read more

I will NEVER rent from Payless again. I traveled to the new orleans twice this month. The second time I found a deal online for Payless for a rental car for thirty dollars a day and booked it initially for 6 days and had to extend it 2 days. I ended up getting charged 900 dollars for the rental car. When I got there I tried to speak with someone and they told me that I probably ended up speaking to someone that was lazy and didn't wanna look for a deal when they could have and when they extended my rate they charged me all of the fees I paid the first time all over again so it was like i dropped off the car and picked it back and paid all the small fees all over again. Do not rent from this company, they show the daily rate cheap but then they charge you all these fees that they don't go over with you. I basically paid a monthly rate for a car for 8 days. read more

Stay away they over charge on everything. They will charge 10$ a gallon on extra gas Complete ripoff don't come here go use a different company instead. Don't give them any business. Their cars suck anyway. Dirty. Cheap. Overpriced read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CRONIES! My dad reserved a rental through Priceline and paid in advanced. When he got there, they required two forms for proof of residence (like an electric bill and water bill). This is at the airport!! He reserved a Kia Sorrento and they kept trying to push a pick up truck. I had to bring him the papers from 30 mins away. Then when they processed it, they charged him $90 more. Then they wanted to give him a smaller sized car. He just had poor service all around and demanded his money back from priceline. Now he has to wait for his refund. read more

I've rented cars before but this was by far the worse experience ever ! Was told 3 different pricing before finally booking the last girl I spoke to didn't give me choice of car add things I didn't want and never stated when to drop the car off so When I did They wanted to charge more for a representative error . She didn't speak about anything literally was just there to book. They was very nasty and rude ! read more

I didn't have a horrid experience, but the customer service when I picked up the car was poor. The guy barely said a word to me, looked grumpy, and never asked me any questions. None of the usual questions about gas refills, needing any extra info, or if I was good with the car I received. The car was also "pre inspected", which is a new one for me and the only thing he talked about at length was the insurance policies. I know for a fact that I am covered through my own carrier, but proceeded to tell me that Payless doesn't work with insurance carriers and will only bill your credit card. I just chalked it up to a line to scare me into getting the insurance. I didn't bite. Check in was much better and no issues there. I don't think the company was bad to use, but their staff need a bit of cheering up. read more

I am still struggling to understand how there is no designated agent working the Payless Car Rental counter at MSY. 2 out of 5 stars is being very generous. I called their headquarters to inquire how it is possible that they do not have anyone working their counter & was told to speak with the specific locations manager. Well... that's kind of hard when there is no one here! read more

The rental car was horrible, and when I tried to return the car early because our trip was going to be cut short but they said they still charge for the original contract. The only good thing was the lady at the desk was very nice. read more

Beware!!!! I recently rented a small vehicle from this location in the Louis Armstrong Airport in New Orleans . The car was terrible , dirty and in need of maintenance repairs. When I inquired about the issues at the kiosk , I was told that this was the only vehicle available. After leaving the airport , I was stopped by the local sheriffs office because the tags on the vehicle were expired. The officer was nice enough to let me go , but the embarrassment was enough . I was charged 5.95 a day for roadside assistance because the option is hidden in the opt out decline list . I asked the representative to remove the charge because clearly , I declined the insurance why would accept their roadside assistance ? They would not even consider removing the charges . I would never in my life use this company again , It is a racket !!!! read more

Never, ever again. The car I rented was filthy; the seats were stained and disgusting. But that's not the worst: the offices at New Orleans Airport overcharged me in two pretty flagrant ways. First, they charged my credit card more for the daily rate than was listed on the rental car paperwork. (It's on the paperwork; how stupid are they?) Second, I returned the car in the early afternoon, but the charges showed that I returned the car at 9 p.m. I was already back home in a different state at that time. When I called the desk at the New Orleans airport, they said "Oh, well, we can't do anything about it." I filed several tickets through their website, and all of them have been ignored. I now have to file fraud charges through my bank and commence legal action. What a nightmare. NEVER rent from Payless! read more

Do NOT rent a car from these crooks. I feel bad giving them even 1 star. When we arrived at the airport and attempted to pick up the car we had prepaid for, they refused since the reservation had been made under my girlfriend's name but paid for with my credit card, despite us both being present along with our ID's and the card it was paid for with. When I asked them to simply switch the reservation under my name instead, we were told that wasn't possible. The guy at the counter said we should have read the fine print in their contract. Fair enough, but they should have some safeguard in place to prevent payment being accepted under a cardholder's name other than that of the person making the reservation if that's their policy. I requested to cancel the reservation and get a refund, and was told no problem on the cancelation, but we would forfeit the payment. Are you serious?! They wouldn't even apply the cost towards a new reservation (which would have been nearly 3 times as expensive anyway). After unsuccessfully contesting the charge with their corporate office, I am in the process of trying to obtain a refund through my bank.....fingers crossed! We ended up renting a car from Enterprise the following day and had a seamless experience and an otherwise great trip. Avoid this company at any cost. They have unethical business practices and useless customer service. I am livid just thinking about it! read more

Rented at the New Orleans airport. I booked through Expedia because they had the lowest rate which was $16/day. My total bill was supposed to be $78.62. I got charged $276.88 on my final bill - glad I checked the statement! They charged me for a "detail fee" saying the charge was to clean the car. I was the only person in the vehicle and I do not smoke. It was not left dirty. I do not understand this charge. Also, their people both at the desk and in the garage were TERRIBLE at customer service. Tired, uncaring, don't give a sh*t attitude. I would never rent from them again. read more

Absolute awful experience with this company. New Orleans counter staff very rude. Asked if I wanted to upgrade to a small suv. Stated no extra charge. That was a lie. Contacted counter about discrepancies in extra charge & dropping off car early fee. They directed me to their 1800 number. I have been waiting a week with multiple return calls to the customer service number. No one has called me back yet after a week but they were quick to charge my credit card the next day. Will NEVER use again! read more

Would give less than one star if possible. Worst customer service ever. Bad counter agents. No help from corporate. Car was smoked in, dirty and gas tank was half empty when I picked it up. Beware! This company will scam you - especially if you're a local resident. If you're a local then the only way to rent the car is to buy their insurance or bring in a light bill that matches your drivers license (have you ever heard of bringing a light bill to rent a car?? Me neither!!), which is twice the price of the daily rental charge ($26/day insurance + my $14/car rental charge). They don't tell you this when reserving and don't feel the least bit apologetic about it either. They told me I didn't have to rent their car, I could walk home! Never again. read more
