I see such positive reviews I am perplexed. I called to have someone come out and look at a possible clog in my pool. (beginning of June). Took over 3 weeks to get on the schedule. When I did, I literally got a 1 hour notice someone was on their way. As a result, I was already on my way to work and had to call my job and tell them I couldn't make it in because Payan Pool Service just texted me I am on their schedule. The tech showed up 2 hours later and was really nice and helpful. Turned out I had 3 sections of my PVC leaking and it wouldn't prime the pump to turn it on. Great news. He said he could fix it and that Payan would send over a quote in the next few days. Two weeks later I finally get the estimate. The pool pump has been turned off the whole time and now it has been 5 weeks (going on 6) since I first reached out to have them come out. As if that wasn't bad enough, I get an estimate for almost $1800 to fix 3 leaks at the joints. The labor quote alone was $800. Mind you, prevailing wage plumbers don't even make that much. I reached out to a few other places and the quotes for the same work are coming in around $250. I get the impression they are really busy and are just throwing out really high quotes just to get them off their plates. In the meantime, my summer swimming pool is now a bust and will need extensive cleaning since I waited for Payan for over 5 weeks in this extreme heat with the pump turned off. I feel like sending them a bill for what I am about to incur as a direct result of waiting for them to respond. Unacceptable. But Kudos to their tech who was really nice and helpful. read more

BEST SERVICE EVER!! We had a pool vac regulator that came apart and the spring & plastic cone got sucked into the pipe leading to the actuator a couple of weeks ago. The pool pump stopped priming and our pool was quickly becoming a POND! We had sought out about 5 different companies to help us find and solve the issue. We were able to get a visual image of the issue by using a leak detection company, but they weren't able to assist with the solution of getting the blockage out. Black Mountain Plumbing recommended Payan Pool Service to help us get the blockage cleared. I am EVER SO GRATEFUL for Valerie was a true lifeline and an absolute God Send! She was so kind and helpful and was able to move mountains to help us with our dire situation...as the pond was getting very green and twitching critters. Mark, with 20+ years of experience, was able to clear the blockage by using pressure from both the actuator side and then the skimmer side and eventually wiggled the spring and plastic cone free! Everyone at Payan Pool Service was incredible! Kind, compassionate, amazing follow up, and worked a MIRACLE that they were able to assist us swiftly and save us from having to break open our slab! Background: 5 years ago we working on a large backyard remodel where we uncovered 20 year old pool pipes below the old hardscape. The new design required that we had to move the pool equipment so we decided to hire Javier and his crew to replace the pipes and run them to our new location. We showed him our current set up which was a jumbled mess and expressed that we wanted to ensure that it look neat and tidy when they were done reinstalling our system. We were also looking to redo the interior of the pool a few years down the road and expressed this too. Review: First impression was great - extremely responsive and courteous. Then the project began. 1ST The guys don't show up before 9:30-10 and leave at 3:00 - mind you our project is on hold while they are working so speed is of importance. I mention this to Javier and he says it's because the guys need to get thing on their way to work - every day for 5 days? First day I get after that start at 7 like every other construction crew. 2ND once the project began Javier became more and more and more difficult to get a response from both via email and forget about him answering his phone. They held up our concrete pour because their pipes are in the wrong location for which they put us off 2 weeks (holiday schedule) 3RD - and most importantly, we had to get a footing poured before Payan could start. This would make the job a little more complicated so in sketchup we created a 3D model of the pool equipment and pipes, which we then used to put 8 - 3" sleeves through the footing so the pool pipes could go through and be in the right location. We shared this diagram with the crew but they didn't run the pipes according to the diagram. Now we bring this to Javier's attention and he says he can fix it by adding elbows and routing the pipes on this side of the footing. Remember how we emphasized that we wanted things neat and tidy? Not to mention that every elbow reduces the suction of the pump and according to Payan this isn't the right way to do things. At least that was their feeling before the project started. We brought this to the attention of Javier and it has been more than 2 days and no response. Again this is held up progress on our project. To be fare some other positives are 1 that they figured out a work around to a spa heating issue we had and 2 they put 4-5 guys on the job when there was a call for rain but they weren't able to finish - which added delays. They never finished the job and we had to get another contractor in to complete the work. I would not recommend Payan. read more

I have to start by saying that Payan Pools is by far the best Pool service we ever had, starting with owner Javier Payan, to Arian our assigned pool guy. When we purchased our home 3 years ago, one of the exciting parts was that it came with a pool. The pool and equipment were older, the plaster was cracked, the light never worked, but "Hey, at least we got a pool". That quickly developed into two years of me absolutely hating the pool. Between pool stores and pool people, we sunk a lot of money into a hole on the ground where we got virtually zero enjoyment. I had started researching what it would take to have it filled in. With the rains of this past winter and a broken pump, we no longer had a pool but rather a swamp. My Bride and I began discussing our options and decided to get some quotes to get things fixed and make it at least stop being an eye sore. We spoke with a couple of different companies, one of which was Payan. From the beginning they were different. They clearly articulated what should be done without any up-selling. Another company had told us that the entire filter needed to be replaced where Payan Told us it was fine and just the grids would need to be done. They laid out a plan to have our pool good as new in under 30 days. Their costs, while a little higher than other quotes were still within 5% of the rest. The project went rather smooth. There were some delays, but hey it's a major project and those can't always be anticipated. They kept us updated on each step, who would be at our home, and when monies were due. Every person we dealt with, from the demo team to the final startup was extremely professional. A few really stood out to me. Heidi and Kris were always able to answer our questions and provide us with updates on the project. Brian and Guillermo were incredible with the details of the install. Brian was even there Easter Sunday to make sure that we opened the pool by our drop dead date. Rocky, the service manager, came out multiple times to complete the startup and make sure that our pool and water sparkle. No one once made me feel like I was imposing on them with a question. All in all, we probably had more than a dozen folks working to make sure that our project was completed on time and within budget. We had one change order due to some broken conduit in the ground. Minus digging up the yard, there was no way that they could have anticipated that before installing the new light. The change order was reasonably priced and we had no issues with it. There were zero hidden costs in this project. We were so impressed with this company that we chose them as a pool service for the long term as well. Again, they were not the cheapest solution, but I have already gone cheapest and it just didn't work. I am confident that our pool is now something we can enjoy for years and not a pond that I tried to avoid looking at. read more

This is unfortunate to write. My husband and I hired Payan pools about a year after moving in to our new home. We were very happy with their monthly service, and when it came time to do some upgrades to our pool, we hired Payan without hesitation. There were a few bumps along the way with the transaction--the owner, Javier, only gave me verbal estimates. We had a few disagreements regarding the scope of work and a rather large discrepancy in the billing. Since I had taken notes on all of our conversation and Javier never put anything in writing, it really came down to my word against his. To his credit, he made good on every single issue. Except one; We had issues with the spillway leaking almost immediately. We asked that someone come back out and fix it, which they did two times. The last time, they said that until the pool was resurfaced, the spillway was going to leak and that was just the way it was. We were really disappointed with this answer as we trusted Payan as a professional--had we been advised that the spillway was going to leak after spending money to repair it, we would have never done it. That said, we accepted the answer, bought a pumice stone and some chemicals and cleaned the lime off the spillway daily. At that point, I was tired of the back and forth and was eager to preserve a good relationship with Payan. Fast forward to a little more than a year later. The spillway has gotten progressively worse. We've since let Payan go as our monthly provider as their service declined precipitously after our repairs. Last week, I notice some of the tiles on the spillway were bulging. I touched a tile and a bunch of them popped off and fell in to the pool (photos are posted). That was the end of my patience. A completely rebuilt and retiled spillway should not fall apart after just over a year.I emailed Payan, expressed my displeasure and limited patience and asked them to provide a resolution within the week. Since then, I've received a few pacifying phone calls from very sincere employees who are not authorized to provide a solution. I've given Payan the benefit of the doubt and ample opportunity to work with me in a professional manner, however the owner has chosen to either ignore or avoid me. Neither of which is an appropriate response to an unhappy customer who informed him my next move will be to write an unfavorable Yelp review, contact the BBB and small claims court. It's also hard to find a reliable, professional, and knowledgable pool service company that goes beyond just trying to sell you stuff and services you don't need. I've used Payan twice. Both times I had a great experience. The techs were courteous and professional. They gave me an accurate repair estimate and cleaned up after themselves. Recently, they installed an energy efficient Intelliflow pool pump. Javier Payan personally came out to supervise the install. Had a problem with my SPA so I called Payan pools who I had used before. It took 1 month to have someone come out and look at my spa. He spent maybe two minutes and told me I needed a new pump motor. I agreed with there estimate and then just starting waiting. Two and a half months later and several calls from me on the the status and no answers from them I asked to talk to the owner and never got a call back. I just had another company give me an estimate and was told the pump motor worked fine and all it needed was a fuse, wow. I will never use Payan pool again. My wife and I own a vacation rental business where having the spas, pools and hot tubs operational are critical to the enjoyment and value of our guests. As such they get more use than the average home equipment. Twice, now, Payan has shown remarkable and incredible service beyond expectation. A corporate retreat was being held at our Mountain Retreat and it was found out that the boiler was inoperative on the day they were to arrive. Of course it was late on a Friday afternoon and the parts warehouses were closed. The owner of Payan Pools offered the parts out of his own personal pool equipment from his house to solve the problem temporarily for the weekend so our guests would not be without a hot tub. And Greg, their technician stayed long after hours and made multiple trips to our remote and secluded retreat in the back country to assure everything was working and that our guests were satisfied. Payan Pool Service did a beautiful remodel of my pool. This wasn't a simple task, since the wall between the elevated SPA unit and the pool was leaking, so they had to demolish and then rebuild the wall. In addition, they removed the old paint down to the concrete lining and then resurfaced it using mini pebbles. The end result is perfect, and the pool/spa looks like new. On top of this, Payan stayed within the agreed upon budget and they showed up every day until the job was done. Upon completion of the job, they left everything very clean and they came several times to balance the pool chemistry. I am very happy and would use them again. read more

Was supposed to receive a quote for an acid wash and change in pool lighting. Tech never showed I was told they got caught up and they would be there five hours later. The service I have received from Payan Pools has been flawless. For months i dragged my feet on getting a pool service because I didn't think they were worth the money. Then my pool turned into a swamp and Payan pools had to come fix it. Their head maintenance man came out, got everything in working order, and then explained to me that he could keep doing that, but it would be just as costly to pay for a monthly service (instead of corrective services) and i would actually be able to use the pool. He was right. Now my pool looks great and the man who comes to clean it is very kind and clearly wants to do a good job. UPDATE: I have now discontinued Payan Pool Service. The quality of their work has gone down very significantly since I started using them 2.5 yrs ago. The weekly 'service' now consists of a 5 min "splash and dash" while the service tech is on his phone the entire time (5 min max) he is at my house. NO check of equipment, NO brushing of tile (like it specifies in my contract will be done weekly) NO follow up on complaints or concerns by management other than to say the service tech "confirms" he is at my house for the allotted 35 min ea week and is doing all the items he is supposed to do. HUH ???? Maybe they should actually take the time to send someone out and check my vaccume (that has not MOVED in 3 weeks) or the black mildew-y tile themselves before they make claims like that or insinuate the customer is lying. They claim they have GPS tracking devices on their employees that will verify the amount of time spent at your location , but that does not take into account the time the employee is sitting in his vehicle on obviously personal phone calls . The owner of this company also states he has used my pool cleaner at his own house and the employee did a good job -- well , no kidding !!! If i was working at MY bosses house i would make damn sure i did a good job too . ... ridiculous to even say ... I was also paying 1 1/2 times what other pool services charge , that will actually CHECK the equipment or brush the tile when it needs it. And lastly, when you call the company and try to talk to a live person, all you get is a lengthy voice mail runaround. NO ONE ever answers their phone, and even after leaving many detailed messages AND emails, NO ONE bothers to get back to you. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for your pool service needs. You can get MUCH better quality service for MUCH cheaper prices, that are also fully licensed and insured . read more

Horrible!!! We have been using Payan Pool for the past month, for pool cleaning, at the recommendation of our pool heater installer (who was great and so we trusted would be a good referrer source!). Unfortunately, Payan Pool's service has been abysmal. Despite their WEEKLY visits, (God only knows what the pool cleaner is doing here), the pool drainage is constantly clogged, and the pool is filling up with debris and sand!!! What the hell?? It seems like they are dirtying our pool instead of cleaning it. They were scheduled to come drain our pool this morning and they no-showed. They are totally unreliable to boot. Javier Payan of His pool company , Payan pools lied about the entire incident. My wife told the person doing the work that it was all wrong. The Payan worker brushed her off and left without trying to fix the wrong work he did. The next day they came to inspect the work and said to me "we know there is a repair that needs to be done but we will look at our schedule and call you next week to set something up." Then Payan told his worker to leave and thats what happened. Then I called and told Mr. Payan that he treated us badly and that I would sue him and post this on Yelp. My attorney sent him a letter via fax and email. Then he finally came to me with a poor excuse for sanding down the concrete. Not even addressing the fact that the color concrete he installed is a different color that the concrete we have in our entire yard. WELL, I posted this and YES I filed the suit on Payan pools. I have photos of the bad work as Payan pools RUINED MY BACKYARD concrete, which I will prove and show in court. Im happy to post the photos so all of you can see that the job is terrible and the color is 500% different than what was in the contract . Javier Payan is double talking nonsense. Anyone that wants to see the photos can contact me with your email and I will send you the photos.So you know the truth about the claim and you will know Payan did not do what was contracted for . But he talks a good game of excuses. I even proposed a settlement and he agreed, but would not put his name to it. What kind of company does these shoddy things. Horrible service! I had a Pentair salt chlorinator go bad and Pentair used Payan for the repair/warranty service and they were terrible. Tech came out initially on a Wednesday and confirmed the unit was bad and said they'd be back on Monday after receiving the replacement unit from Pentair, never heard from them again. I called Pentair a week later after not hearing from Payan and Pentair said Payan had never contacted them after their visit to confirm the unit was defective and order the replacement. Pentair called Payan and they gave the excuse that their tech failed to submit the claim. This runaround went on for a month and I still never heard from Payan after repeated calls to the dealer. Pentair finally gave up on Payan and handed my case over to San Dieguito Pool Center who handled it properly. BEWARE! read more
