We've tried many groomers in the area- both site-based and mobile. Our dog is extremely skittish and does not like to be caged. We had no success with the site-based people because they always cage the dogs and stack them up until they are ready to groom them-sometimes they sit in the cages for hours. That is a no go for my dog. The mobile groomers did a terrible hack job that looked like my kids took the shears to our Golden Aussie. We finally tried Paws A While upon recommendation from friends. Our dog has never looked better! They always listen and do exactly what I ask (no hack job or surprise summer cut that leaves our dog looking like a drowned rat). She comes home silky and well-groomed and the cuts last quite a while. I really appreciate the fact that they do not cage the animals, but allow them to roam in a pack. It is surprisingly effective and the dogs are always calm and happy when I come in. My dog is still anxious about the process, but as a rescue dog, I know that she has issues that are unlikely to change. The staff at Paws a While, particularly Christine, the owner, has always been very compassionate with our dog and even takes her outside to groom her so the experience is less stressful. The business is always hopping, so I know that many others also appreciate the kindness and humanitarian approach at Paws A While. read more

I took my three dogs here last week. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the place and professionalism of the employees. Yes, it is a bit on the pricey side, but one has to remember it IS Manhattan Beach. Def recommend. Took them about three hours. Cookie was looking beautiful after her treatment! ;) read more

We have been taking our little guys to see Connie since 1986 when she was down at the beach. Connie is the best groomer ever. When we moved from Manhattan Beach to Thousand Oaks we still took our fur babies to her. Now we live in Bass Lake, CA near Yosemite and we still take them there. I've tried other groomers, but they don't care, nor do we trust anyone with our babies, but we trust Connie. Connie is the BEST! read more

Well our Sammie was doing the butt scoot boogie so I called and got right in for a wash and analysis gland look see. Turned out wasn't the glands it was a sore. But(no pun intended) with the fine help of the knowledgeable staff and accommodating customer service I was able to get her clean and to vet with the correct info so she was comfortable and taken care of. They even let her run around with all the other dogs it's like a play date for them. Great place highly recommend. And good pricing! read more

Amazing amazing amazing!! Words can not express how incredible the services and people are who work at Paws a While. I am beyond humbled and moved by the way my animals were cared for. I have 2 rescue animals with extremely unique temperaments. In fact my chow chow mix has never even entered a boarding facility as well dog grooming facility without being asked to leave. She was not only happy at Paws for a While but she even seemed content immediately which is a first for her! This had me humbled and feeling extremely at ease knowing my dogs were in such great hands. The owner is beyond the kindest most hospitable dog loving person. She is SO great with all animals. I was stunned by how much she loved both of my pets equally as if they were her own. And trust me, that says it all! I picked my dogs up and they looked fantastic and smelled clean from their bath. At first they were so happy I almost wondered if they wanted to stay longer. I'm not kidding. Each day knowing my dogs were in the excellent care of Paws a While was another day I could enjoy myself knowing my animals were not only safe but happy and loved. Anyone giving this place anything less than 5 stars is most certainly incurring bad karma or are simply a miserable grinch. I can't say one negative about this establishment-except I'm not an easy person to please regarding my pets. I was not only pleased but feel blessed and beyond grateful. My animals are my everything. Knowing that I can drop them off here when I leave from LAX is not only so convenient but also a breath of fresh air. A million thanks to this incredible establishment. I am writing this review as I wait to pick up my entirely too tangled golden doodle an hour after Pawsawhile has closed. They are staying that late to give my beloved dog a beautiful groom. They go the extra distance and truly love dogs. My golden doodle always looks so fabulous when she's been in their able hands. My dog has been there all day, and the dogs all have a great time roaming the (closed off) salon. It's like a big puppy play date! Paws a While is the ABSOLUTE BEST when it comes to getting your dog groomed. You do have to make appointments in advance, and they are on the more expensive side; however, it is so worth it to me. My dogs look like show dogs when they leave there! I have been going to Paws a While for about 10 years now, and I could not imagine going anywhere else to groom my pets. read more

I have two dogs and this is by far the best groomers I have ever been to. I love the new owner. She is so great with the animals. The crew there always have smiles on their faces. It is a very warm and welcoming environment. I would recommend to any animal lover to take their pets to this shop. I wish I could give it 10 stars. This place makes getting your dog groomed a scary experience. We brought our dog to them 4 or 5 times. Twice they cut him. One of the cuts was so bad that after a day or two he wouldnt eat and could hardly walk. Required an expensive trip to the vet and antibiotics. Our dog is not a squirmer so therer is no excuse for that. The other times he was there we dropped him at opening time and then got calls later and later in the day, usually making excuses that connie or someone was not in, or had left early, and they hadnt finished our dog he was usually done around 4:30 or 5. One day we picked him up close to 6 pm. That is NINE hours spent mostly tied to their wall. I have not seen them take any dogs out and to urinate and watched a few go on the floor. Our last visit was the final straw. We dropped him right at opening time, 9am. An extremely unhappy woman was working the counter. She couldnt find us on their list for the day ( because they lost our appointment sheet) but said they would take him anyway for just a bath, no cut. I said i could come back a different day because i had an appointment elsewhere at 2:30 he would have to be done by 2pm for me to make it. ( any other groomer, 5 hrs would be enough time to get a bath done, but i already had those bad experiences and knew better about this place). She said he would be done way before that. She was so rude to me and another man that came in at the same time ( couldnt find his appt either) that i felt REALLY nervous about leaving him. I called at 1:45 because they hadnt called me yet, and was told that they hadnt even started him yet. That they had a lot of dogs come in and he was still waiting. STILL WAITING means still tied to their wall..... 5 hrs later! I drove up there anyway and they said they needed 15 more minutes, so i left and came back to get him and just took him as he was - unfinished. Another man was there RETURNING his poodle and telling them they needed to fix the job they did because his dog was a mess, and he said, " by the way, there is a cut on his back" and the groomer said, " yes, the clippers fell, sorry". Seriously? I took my dog and will never ever go back there again. read more

Service has always been good, but after repeatedly leaving voice mails, I gave it one more try and got a live voice. She proceeded to tell me that they only make appts on line now. I am not a mindreader, it isnt mentioned on their voice message, so after being very faithful to this place, I am no saying sayonara - customer service stinkd here. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer. Please be careful. I witnessed the groomer being very rough with our dog as well. The haircut was fine, but our dog hated being there. The energy is really bad. Other than the one groomer there (which was rough with our dog,) all the other groomers keep quitting because the owner is not nice to work for. They say they love the animals, but they way overbook the groomings in order to make money and really could care less about our babies. If you are looking for a good groomer try Groomingdales. They are a mobile service and come right to your door. They cost less and have great, caring groomers. read more

My Monkey has a gland problem. She needs to get them expressed every few months. So, I figure she might as well get a bath and the royal treatment while she's at it. I've taken her to a few other places. She starts shaking when I get her there and often I find that they didn't do a good job of expressing her. I wind up having to take her to the vet and get it done professionally. I'm so glad my vet recommended this place. I guess the owner, who is there whenever we go in, used to be a vet tech. Since I've started going here I haven't needed to go to the vet for her glands. They take such good care of her. And best of all Monkey doesn't shake anymore when I take her in; she actually likes going here. I think it's because at other places she gets locked up in a cage the entire day. Monkey is very friendly and loves socializing with the other dogs at Paws. The staff are very friendly and the place is kept clean. Thanks Paws-a-While, from both Monkey and me. read more

This is an excellent grooming shop with a very knowledgeable staff. Specifically, the owner has many years of experience as a vet tech so she can also help answer quick questions you might have about your dogs health. We have a golden doodle with tricky fur and the team spent time with me going over how to use various tools and brushing techniques to keep her from getting matted in the future. My dog loves going to the shop and always looks great when we get her back. The owners are very flexible with pick up times and take great care of the dogs. Best Grooming experience I've had by far. We have been taking our poodle to Connie for ten years. We love her. She does beautiful work. We also take our German Shepherd for occasional baths. They really know how to handle dogs and are gentle and caring. We have boarded our dogs and cat several times and Irene takes great care of them while they are there. read more

She is very invested in each and every dog that visits her facility. The dogs are able to play freely together while they wait for their turn. I brought my cocker spaniel here for 15 years... she always looked so nice and her haircut was always the way I asked for it.... I think part of the reason she never got the ear problems a lot of cockers get is because they took good care of her ears... But the best part was as my Sophie aged they took such special care of her and her ailments... I wouldn't have trusted her to anyone else when she started losing sight and hearing as well as some hip issues... Sophie is gone now, but I will be taking my little rescue pup Bella! read more

We have been coming to Paws A-While for 12 years now. We have Bernese Mountain Dogs that are not easy to groom considering all the hair. The first time I ever brought our Bernese there, Connie the owner introduced herself and made sure I was comfortable with her and her employees. Our boys have always been in great hands, never a problem or accident in 12 years. They come out looking and smelling like show dogs! Bernese's are very sensitive dogs and I would know if anything other than love was being shown here. I have spent a lot of time here, admiring all the lovely dogs & cats that come through the door. Connie and staff have alerted me if our dogs have any issues, flaky skin, hot spots, etc and have offered advice. We have had nothing but a wonderful experience here and I can't imagine going anywhere else! Connie watched our 6 month old puppy while we were on vacation for two weeks! She trained him and also took amazing care of him. Our dogs are like our children and we would never leave them in anyone we didn't trust. Connie and her new owner have done a wonderful making Paws A-While even better! My favorite new services is the reminder call the day before and giving Gus the ability to hang out before his bath with all the other pups & cats! read more

I have been coming to Paws-A-While since my dog was a puppy and he is now 8. Rocco looks forward going to Paws A While and loves to hang out with all of his furry friends! Connie and her staff take excellent care of all the animals. Rocco has never been hurt or cut and I have been bringing Rocco to Paws A-While once a week for 8 years! Connie and Irene always let me know if his ears look red, or if they notice any skin problem and offer great advice. Simply put Rocco loves his spa day! He can't wait to go inside and hang out with the other dogs. I don't think twice when I leave Rocco as I know he is in the best care. I have never written a review before, however, I had such a bad experience at Paws A-While that I have to comment on it. I had heard good things about this place and on the second visit, I received a call from Connie in the late afternoon letting me know that she had taken my dog to the vet around the corner. She realized she had nicked my dog and just to be on the safe side, she took her to the vet. She told me it was nothing and that I should pick up my dog from the vet. I assumed she must have an agreement with her local vet for courtesy visits. I thanked her for being so cautious. I called the vet and found out that my dog needed staples, medication, etc and it would be $300. They said I needed to call Connie to discuss payment. When I finally got a hold of Connie, she told me that it was an accident and these things happen and she wouldn't charge me for the cut and we should call it even. I was preoccupied with several things one of which was getting my dog back before the vet closed and so I didn't say much. However, I went over to speak with her the next day and was told she was out for a few days. I left a note for her to call me to discuss the bill and I have never heard from her. I'm really surprised she has managed to stay in business with this kind of service. I will never patronize her business again! read more

please do not take your love one here i cant believe i paid $ to have my baby chained to a wall as he waited patiently to get groomed, no water or food as he waited his turn, however, the staff had water to drink. and as the 1 or 2 workers they had for about 6 dogs, they talked and worked which meant my baby had been chained to the wall for i don't know how long , they have no outside area or even a play room for them i could not understand how they can keep the dog chained to the wall until their turn to get groomed and u pick them up. they informed me my dog would be ready at one time he was not and i had to wait n watch as they roughly groomed him, if u love your pet do not take them here sad and depressing!!! i do not recommend!!! read more

I took my two cats here last week to get a bath while my place was being fumigated. I couldn't be happier with the service I received. The price ($110 for 2 cats) was reasonable (personally, you couldn't pay me enough to bathe and groom my extremely water-averse furballs!) and they did an excellent job. Also, I like that the cats smell clean but not overly perfume-y. One really nice touch was that the techs cleaned out the 2 carriers AND washed/dried the towels that had been in the carriers when I brought the cats in - I had forgotten to ask them to do this when I dropped the cats off and when I remembered as I arrived to pick them up, I found that it had already been done. What a great way to go the extra mile - why put clean critters back in dirty carriers? I thought that this little extra touch was very indicative of the level of service and care at Paws Awhile. I will definitely be returning. read more
