I used to take my puppy here when it was under different ownership, and I loved it! I had no idea they were under new management until I got on Yelp to find out if Samantha was still with the company; I was curious because I didn't love the haircut my puppy last received here. It wasnt until I read all of the RECENT bad reviews that my last experience with Paws-A-While started to make sense... When I last dropped my pup off, they told me it would take three hours. However, they didn't ask me to pick him up until five hours later, and this was after I called numerous times. When I arrived to pick him up, they were still in the process of grooming him. While I was paying at the register (increase in pricing), I witnessed them cut his paws. My dog screamed in pain. The groomer looked at me and said "he is just being dramatic, I didn't hurt him." Few weeks later I noticed he had cuts/scabs on his elbows. Paws-A-While is now a mess. Avoid this business. read more

Stay far FAR away. Sherry does not listen to her customers nor does she know the dogs that come into her shop. She talks a good talk to get you in the door, but proved to be highly unorganized and unprofessional in her communication. That's if you can even get a hold of her.. She is denying to have shaved my dog when I dropped him off for a bath only and picked him up with patches of hair missing. Luckily hair grows back. Any owner would have apologized and made things right but Sherry was only interested in charging us. I have a feeling this owner will continue to drive customers away. read more

Dropped my puppy off this morning for our scheduled 9am appointment for a bath and nail trim. The store was not open and they were late. I was instructed to go under their door mat and grab the key to put my dog into a kennel...Which in turn made me late for work... I then get notified that my dog will not be ready until 3pm and will cost over $200!!! I go to pick up my puppy, only to find out they NEVER even worked on my puppy!! So my poor puppy was stuck all day in a kennel for no reason!! And did this company offer to make things right? Nope...they said they would drop the puppy off at my house later but still charge me full price!! Absolutely disgusted at the level of service and care and concern for my puppy... Never coming back again... read more

When Petsmart grooming closed, I had to quickly find an alternative location to take my 9 year old Chihuahua (Chiquita) for a nail clipping and flea dip. After a Yelp search, I noticed Paws a While was open & decided to give them a try. I will preface this by saying that Cheeks has notoriously hard nails to clip because of how ambiguous the quick is and how jumpy she gets with her paws. I didn't even think they could get any shorter than the half clip she was getting before. But, here she is--this is her second grooming with Paws a While and she's clean, trim, and happy! I will continue to bring my pets here :) read more

I really wish I would've read the reviews before sending my pup here. Just picked my dog up after being there for five hours and she had come back completely shaven when we had had a conversation and had asked for a trim and to never cut our dog's hair short. Called the owner Sherrie who proceeded to call herself a "master groomer" and denied she had shaved our dog when there are knicks in her skin. She proceeded to tell us our dog has fine hair so she needs to use more of our products instead of apologizing for shaving our dog! Sherrie will try and pull you in with her "products that she imports from Milan" and amazing "master grooming" skills but DO NOT listen to her. She also left knots throughout my dog's hair. Reading all the other reviews makes me really sad that she is still in charge of this business. read more

Have been going to this business for over 25 years. Through two previous owners and have nothing but glowing things to say about the quality and level of care taken over the years with all of our furry family members. Until now. Christine is no longer the owner and the lack of organization and professionalism shows. I called last month to make an appointment and what I thought was just the new receptionist on her first day with multiple holds and very disorganized conversation about who and what we were making an appointment for; should have been my clue that something was off. No notice about new ownership was given. The day before I received a text with the wrong service listed- I called and texted back to correct the error. No response. Again - in the past there has never been an issue so I chalked it up to new receptionist but they have my girl's info on her card so it won't be an issue. I drop her off, again new receptionist does the intake but no mention of new ownership. I reiterate - not a cut just a tidy. "Yes yes yes of course" I receive a call about an hour later while I am running errands - they don't leave a message. I call back 2 minutes after the call and the young woman on the phone said "oh we tried to reach you because we are unclear if you wanted a cut like the appointment said but her card says she only gets a tidy" I calmly (admittedly I was irritated) "no what I confirmed with you via your text message system, over the phone, and in person this morning is that she gets a tidy." "Oh well when we didn't reach you we gave her a hair cut" It was only when I picked her up that we were informed about change of ownership. We won't be back. I wish them well. read more

I brought my Samantha here a few days ago for anesthesia free teeth cleaning. They do this service the 3rd week of every month. The vet onsite Matthew Smith was extremely knowledgeable and did a fantastic job on Samantha (she had tartar buildup and gingivitis from years of neglect from her previous owners). He also gave antibiotics to take care of the gingivitis. The service only took about 15 mins and we were set to go. The overall fee was $145 ($125 for teeth cleaning + $20 for antibiotics). If you're looking for anesthesia free teeth cleaning for your dog in Southbay area, this place is it...highly recommended. Only downside, they never answer the phone (at least from my experience). Be ready to play phone tags if you're making an appointment. read more

I absolutely love this groomer! My dog tends to be a little temperamental when it comes to being bathed or groomed, but they always get the job done. I appreciate knowing that my dog is being treated well, and I do not have to worry that they will get annoyed with her skittish behavior. This is my go to for grooming! We've been taking our dog to Paws A While for the last two years and they always did a great job.... until today. I didn't read the recent reviews until after our experience today and didn't realize ownership had changed. I dropped off my fluffy doodle dog thinking he was getting his usual trim and picked up a completely SHAVED dog without any heads up. The haircut is a complete hack job with random splotches shorter than others, his whiskers and eyelashes shaved, and his face several different lengths. I was so upset when I picked him up, THEN was made aware of a $75 price increase. I am serious when I say that anyone with an electric razor could've cut my dogs hair and it would look better. read more

Change of ownership had not been good. I've been a loyal customer for many years and will not be back. New owner had an attitude with me while waiting an additional hour for my labradoodle. Horrible service, horrible cuts and I've read about abuse towards the dogs. The new owner is petty and just a horrid person. I used this establishment once a few months ago. I took my Lhasa Apso in and they did a great job. Since that experience I scheduled an appointment 3 weeks out and I was quoted $165.00 for my Golden Doodle. I dropped him off at 11:00 am and picked him up at 4:00 pm. The new owner by the name of Sherry advised me that it took 3 hours to groom Sawyer and he was difficult. She also stated that he bit her and they had to hold him down in order to groom him. This I found unbelievable because I never had any complaints about him with other groomers. Sherry then explained that because he was difficult she charges $95/hour. You would think a respectable and professional establishment would give a courtesy call to their Customer to inform them of this upcharge. However, this was not the case. This was neither disclosed when I dropped him off to begin with. There is nothing in writing that informs their Customers of this stipulation. Nothing was provided where a Customer signs and agrees to this. Nevertheless the conversation with Sherry was unpleasant. Oh and by the way when I asked for her name she refused to give me her name. When I explained that this was not disclosed when I dropped him off she replied "Well I wasn't the one that checked him in." I also explained my Lhasa Apso was groomed a few months back and nothing was explained to me as well. Sherry responded with a shrug and with a smirk " I'm the new owner now for the past 10 days." No apology at all from this "MEAN" lady or even a courtesy to pay what was quoted to me. I didn't want to stay any longer talking to an evil, condescending woman like Sherry. I agreed to pay $285. Sherry ran my debit card and a receipt didn't produce, so she kept swiping it. She swiped my debit card 3 times and insisted that the transaction was not processed. I told her to stop swiping it and I will use a different credit card. I snatched my debit card and went to my car to retrieve now my credit card because I did not trust her or her system. She threatened to call Manhattan Beach PD and report me. She followed me to my car to write down my license plate number. Sherry was unbelievable. By this point I used ALOT of colorful words and told her I didn't want her to talk to me anymore and requested one of her employees to assist me. Sherry stood behind the counter with an evil smirk, lurking at me and smiling antagonizing me when her employee assisted me. Now my credit card was swiped an additional 3 times and still a receipt was not produced. Later I checked my two accounts and all 7 transactions were processed. The crazy thing is that they were all random amounts of $306.51 and $296.12 BUT where is the $285 which is what $95/hour for 3 hours add up to. She couldn't even get that amount right. I told Sherry I am definitely leaving a review on YELP and she replied " go ahead no one uses YELP anymore." The nerve of this lady!.. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE! Sherry is the new owner and has awful Customer Service skills and ZERO EXPERIENCE ON DESCALATING A SITUATION. She lied about Sawyer being difficult and biting her. The actual groomer who groomed him sent the below text to me. read more

I've taken my golden doodle here before and they did a great job. Seems like it's under new ownership and I wish I read the recent reviews. We made an appointment for 11am and we were told then that the price went from $120 to $165 which is an over 30% price increase, but we just went with it and didn't complain. Sherry was helping us and came off condescending, also told us our dogs "ethnic" name is a mouthful, his name is Chai LOL. My wife was annoyed and didn't want to leave him there, but I was like they are busy so let them do their thing. We were told we should have our pup ready between 3-4pm. I called around 330pm to check on him and they said he is in the bath and will be ready by 530pm. I was upset since we were told he will be ready by 4pm, it was also my birthday and we had dinner plans. I asked if I can just pick him up and schedule an appointment for another day. Sherry was being facetious and told me it would be $95 for a wash unless we want to pick him up wet. Sherry was very rude throughout this conversation so we just said we will pick him up wet. We were very upset but held our tongue when we got there, asked for our pup and brought towels with us since he was wet. Sherry made a rude comment and when we said this is why her yelp reviews are so bad recently she said that yelp is where cowards go and then proceeded to kick us out of the store. I feel bad for her staff who are very kind and great to work with. However, Sherry has zero customer service skills. Lesson learned, I should have not discounted what my wife said - they are always right :) read more

SEE PHOTOS. I took my bernedoodle puppy here when I couldn't get in to his usual spot a few months ago. Typically when he was groomed elsewhere it took about 3.5 hours give or take. I dropped my puppy off and he was there from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. I called multiple times to check in and they kept saying he just wasn't done yet. I couldn't fathom what could possibly be taking that long. sour usual groomer always complimented how well behaved and easy he was. Well I finally am told he's done then have to wait another 20 minute for him to come out. They sent someone out to warn me prior to bringing him out that he looked like a completely different dog than when I brought him in. The hair cut was atrocious and down to the skin. His eyelashes were cut off, whiskers, so many unnecessary areas that his typical groomer did not ever remove. It was so bad that they brought someone out to warn me! My dog was traumatized, a once happy to see the groomer pup now shakes incessantly every time we have taken him (definitely not back here) to his usual spot. He did not leave my lap when we got home that night because he was so scared. read more

****DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE**** I have used this groomer in the past and was very pleased with the service. I was never informed pawsawhile is now under new management, and the new owner Sherry has absolutely no business working with animals. During our brief interaction to Sherry she forcefully grabbed our dog and then proceeded to hold him by the muzzle and made him cry. If this happens in front of the customer it makes me sick to think what she does behind closed doors. On top of this she also jacked up the price without any notice or reason and was extremely rude and condescending. Please read the other reviews! Oso and I had a wonderful experience today at Paws A While. Shari and the team were so patient with my little one. Oso, almost 9 months, has anxiety and up to now, has only let one groomer near him for a nail trim and it was a stressful experience. The second time we tried a nail trim with that same groomer Oso was too anxious. The groomer suggested I give him calming gummies and we were turned away due to Oso's anxiousness. I've tried several places since then and we've been turned away because my dear Oso is a ball of nervous energy. His nails were terribly long so I decided to give Paws A While a try. I stopped in a few days prior, talked it down with the owner, Shari and she suggested I bring him early at the start of the day. Well, it went better then I could've dreamed! Shari met us at the door as she noticed I was having trouble getting Oso inside. I picked him up and Shari moved in ever so gently, spoke to him lovingly, scooped him into her arms, brought him close to her heart and just held him for a spell to help him calm down. Once he was very relaxed in her arms she took him to the back and I heard her and her staff talking down the best ways to handle him so as not to upset him and steps to take to make Oso's nail trim a positive experience. Such love was taken with my Oso and I really appreciate the love, time and positive energy put into making this such a wonderful experience. The team was able to cut his nails but since Oso became too upset with the file it was decided to just cut today so as not to stress him and try the filing in a couple of weeks. Such care was taken to make sure this was a positive experience for Osa AND ME! We will return in two weeks for a follow up trim/filing and work our way up to bath time! I'm relieved to know I have a loving place where Oso can get his nails trimmed and looking forward to working with Shari and her team to help Oso get comfortable enough to stay for bath time. read more

My Golden Retriever is generally not a fan of any grooming salon (she protests even walking through the front door). But of all the groomers she has visited over the years, Paws A While makes her feel the most comfortable. She doesn't have to be kenneled while getting groomed - she can roam around the salon freely with the other well behaved doggies for socialization. I think it's this aspect of Paws A While that makes her feel most at ease. In addition to how my dog feels (ha!) I really like the job that the professionals at Paw A While do: my pup gets a great bath and smells wonderful after her visits here, but the "Tidy Up Plus" haircut that she gets is always top notch. They trim all the areas that I request (paw pads, potty areas, elbows and booty fur), and her haircuts last a few months which is very helpful to me budget-wise. For timing, I usually drop her off between 9 and 10 in the morning and by 1 or 2 pm, the services are finished and she's ready for pickup. The only reason 4 stars instead of 5 is price - I've gotten cheaper services elsewhere - but I'll pay their prices so that my dog can have the least stressful salon experience possible. Thumbs up on this place! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I was a loyal customer for 15 years. I just got word that the new owner is a woman named Sherry. Sherry briefly worked there under the previous owner (a few days) and on her first day she met me in the parking lot to retrieve my dog, a 15 year old maltese. She demanded I explain "exactly" how I wanted my dog groomed. I explained my dog had been coming there for years and they knew how to groom her. She further explained that she was the new person in charge and that I would need to explain in great detail what needed to be done. At that point Joanna, an employee joined us and tried to explain that my dog was a sweet dog that they knew well what to do and that I brought her every two weeks. Sherry dismissed Joanna with a hand in face. She then turned back to me and said things were changing. That the establishment was changing all of their rules about drop off and how they groom. She said "I am a master groomer" I know how to groom dogs and I need to know exactly what you want done. I explained I was moving that day and I just would need a tidy like they always did. The conversation escalated to her telling me I did not understand my dogs needs. That I really did not care about her because of the length of her hair and how much work it takes. I tried to end the conversation and just explain I have movers at my house and to please just trim her the same as always. At this point she has my dog in her arms and she continues to berate me about my incompetency regarding grooming and care for my dog. I asked for her name (like stated in another review) and she did not want to give it to me. I insisted and she said her name was Sherry. She then extended her arms and said my business was not welcome there and to take my dogs. I thought she was going to drop my dog. She is only six pounds and it appeared she was going to throw her at me. At that point, I told her I had an appointment and I knew the owner and that they needed to fulfill the obligation. If I wasn't moving that day and Joanna, the manager had not been there I would have left with my dog. I was in tears when I left. I spoke to Joanna after and she explain that Sherry left after our encounter. I spoke to the owner and shortly after she was fired. And I returned to doing my business there. But today I was informed, this Sherry woman is now the new owner. I believe she is a narcist and an angry woman and would not advise anyone to take there animal to this place that I loved for many years. It is so very sad. I was also informed that this place is no longer cage free and all previous wonderful employees were fired by Sherry. read more

I'm so sad to see how run down it has become. I would never work for Sherry ever again even if my life depended on it. She is a terrible employer and does not treat her customers or employees right. But with that being said she has brought all of this upon herself! And hopefully someone who actually deserves a business will take her place and treat the animals and people with care read more

I value family and friends opinions. When they are mistreated, I will support them. Businesses need to understand that they are in the customer service business, they just happen to provide grooming services, sell cars, sell fruit, etc....
