I've been going here for pedicures for about 18 months. The staff are friendly, kind and thorough. I have sensitive toes due a medical condition and they always treat my feet with great care. I just get regular polish and have tried a few options from the pedicure menu. The basic up to the volcano one - all have been nice. I'm a fan. Of note, if you pay in cash you don't have to deal with the pesky credit card fee. And tips are cash only. I've had to bop over to Basha's after a pedicure to get some money for a tip. read more

This salon is around the corner from my house. This is the second time Kevin has done my nails. I walked right in, no appointment needed. My previous dip manicure lasted a little over 3 weeks (I could have gone longer). Kevin did a great job taking off my previous dip polish and a nice job shaping my square-round nail. My dip was only $45, which is $10 less than most of the other salons I've been too. Firstly, I rarely write reviews. However this experience was so terrible that I felt compelled to. I came in to remove my dip powder and get a new dip powder manicure. I get dip manicures every month and know the usual routine to get a manicure done. I usually don't come to this salon but I was next door and decided to stop in. The previous dip was done on my natural nails and had grown fairly long. The lady had me soak my nails in a bowl of acetone for 3-5 minutes. She then removed my right hand and took clippers and started cutting my nails. My dip powder was still on my nails therefore when she cut my nails they completely cracked. I still was patient and wanted to trust the process. She did not do anything to my left hand. I soaked my hands for another 2 minutes. She removed my right hand and started to peel off the previous dip powder with an acrylic tip. I had a feeling she would peel off my natural nail along with the dip powder but still stayed quiet trusting the process. However, I was correct my nail peeled off and became extremely short. She moved on to the next nail and started doing the same thing. I then stopped her from continuing and explained that this would peel all my nails if continued. I asked if this is how they always remove old manicures and she said yes. I said "I've never had my manicure removed like this, I've always had them filed so that the natural nail stays long". She shrugs. A coworker behind me tells her to file off the rest instead. My left hand is then removed from the acetone and the dip powder is filed off with the electric drill. My nails on my left hand are long whereas my nails on my right hand are superrr short and all cracked. I explain this to the lady and she replies "your nails were already cracked and I HAVE to cut them shorter". She tells me to go wash my hands. As I return to the chair she tells me she will no longer continue with the manicure. I leave with uneven nails and dry fingers from the acetone. The nail tech was extremely unprofessional and didn't want to listen to my concerns or give solutions. None of the other staff cared either. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more

Got my nails done here ahead of my baby shower about two weeks ago. I feel like I had a new nail tech because she BUTCHERED my cuticles. Im talking 7 of my fingers were bloody and cut and my two big toes were cut as well. Never in my life has that happened. The redemption here was that the tech was sweet (Chi?) and the shop was clean. My dear mother-in-law highly recommended this nail salon. So I made an appointment and went. I explained that my daughter is getting married and so this appointment is very important. The technician pushed hard for me to upgrade my pedicure to gel and so I did. I didn't look carefully, just liked the color and then got my nails in French tip with gold glitter. Since my appointment was late I hurried out and then saw that all my French tips are crooked and some are not even all the way across my nail. She charged me $94 for the gel pedicure and nail dip with French tips. It seemed high but that would've been okay if my nails looked great afterwards. I am very disappointed and will never return. I am an excellent tipper - usually $20 - $10 for pedi and $10 for mani. They lost a potentially good client. read more

I was hesitant to try Paulenes in the first place, I wish I followed my gut. I asked for acrylic nails in the coffin shape. The staff does not provide an enjoyable environment. They're very rude and clearly have no idea what customer service is. The woman who did my nails was physically aggressive: she didn't seem to care when I told her something hurt. Or that she was twisting my hands and fingers into ways they clearly would not go. Towards the end, my nails were not all the same shape. Some were crooked. I had cuts on my cuticles. I did tell her I was not happy with how the nails came out and whether it was a language barrier or lack of compassion: nothing was done to fix it. I definitely will not be returning here. I have been coming to this salon since a little girl, and still love it to this day! I have never had a bad experience at this salon. My go to is Kevin and Mindy!! They are amazing and always take care of me, which can be tricky at times because my nails need to be perfect! I have tried many other nail salons around and nobody checks all of my boxes like they do! They not only make my nails perfect but they also take care of me. They're also great at eyebrows! Other nail salons like KT and Orchid nails don't have a clue!!! Your either man handled or they break a nail and glue it like nothing happened with no apologies or even take too much of your eyebrow hair off! Full set $35 by Kevin was well done. He knows his craft. Almond shape is perfect. Swift and accurate. Volcano Honey & Pearl luxury pedicure $50 by Chi was the best ever. There are six aromas to choose from, so indulge and be pampered. Hot stones are used to massage your legs with oil. Sounds weird, but feels fine. Chi said it didn't hurt her hands; she wears gloves. Accurate work, good leg message. Both Kevin and Chi are pleasant and accommodating. The usual language barrier, but they both were sweet and gracious. Regulars were greeted by name. One said she had been coming to Paulene's for 8 years and is very happy with them. The salon is upscale, smells nice not like chemicals, and everything looks immaculate. They clean their work areas promptly after a client leaves. Tips: cash only, or a check. I recommend at least 25% because this salon is superior to many others I've visited in Tucson. Parking is easy in this shopping center with a grocery store and a few restaurants. I am very impressed. read more

I was excited! So excited and then BLAM.. I'm am not an authority on nails by any means but I most certainly was not impressed. The staff was friendly and that's about the nicest thing I can say about this place. The walk thru - Looks clean, though it does not scream "Relaxing Spa Day". Friendly staff, but aren't they all? Normal selection of services that is average in price. Walk in availability. I made an appointment for 1:30 and they got to me at about 1:45, which is not too terribly bad. The service - Was there for a full set $27, no white tip. Rounded (personal preference). Oh goodness, ouch. My hand was treated in "rag doll" fashion. The technicians grip was too tight and she pushed at the skin under the nail bed until I had to pull back and tell her to stop. No cuticle care done at all. Had to request that the paint and nail glue be removed from my skin. I don't feel like I got as much from this place as you would from someplace else. It felt very rushed. It just was not my thing. I wish I had read the reviews prior to going in to Paulene's today. I walked in and asked if they took walk ins. A woman said yes, and indicated to another woman who was sitting there to get up and take me to the back for a pedicure. This woman was not friendly, and made no attempt to make any conversation. when I sat in the pedicure chair, she handed me three different laminated sheets and asked, 'which one?' I was shocked...the three prices were $50, $55 and $60. I felt too awkward to say that I didn't want to pay that much seeing as I was already sitting in the chair, so I chose the cheapest one. My pedicure was horrible and painful. She made my cuticles bleed in more than one spot. At one point I yelled OUCH! When it was time to switch feet into the water, she just nudged my foot, and didn't attempt any conversation. I had to ask her to do one of my nails over because it was smudged (by her!!) Here's the kicker....I decided to ask for a menu of services as I was walking up to pay, to see if there were any pedicures offered at a reasonable price, and yes there was!!! A standard pedicure is only $34!!! I was so angry. I asked her why she only offered me the high end service she told me that I got a 'xxxxx' whatever service (couldn't understand her). And then she said, 'better and longer' I didn't want a $50 pedicure, I simply wanted a reasonable pedicure. It was 45 minutes, and honestly it's the length of time I normally get at my usual spa. It's partially my fault, I should have asked for the menu upon walking in. But they shouldn't take advantage of people walking in for the first time. Oh, when she knew I was pissed, she said ,' next time' when I complained about the prices. There won't be a next time. Stay away from Paulenes. read more

That said, this place gets the job done. It's a nail place that offers all the normal options. Pedis, Manis, etc in massage chairs with blue water. The price is similar to others and the staff is as friendly as they can be with language barriers. While I don't have anything negative to say, there was nothing that wowed me enough to want to come back. read more

Not friendly employees! The lady who worked on me was rude and unprofessional by displaying how annoyed she was because I was not able to keep my feet in the bowl of scorching hot water! She must not have realized when she let the hot water run as she was busy doing other things but when she asked me to place my feet in the water I couldn't it was extremely hot! I tried explaining to her but she was not having it! Of course she started talking to her other coworkers in her native language and it was obvious based on her body language and facial expressions despite wearing her mask, she was frustrated or annoyed! Her only comment before the silent treatment, "ohhhh you like water very cold!" She must be used to working with clients who are not sensitive to very hot water but I still have good sensation in my feet! Throughout the entire pedicure, the lady working on my feet did not look or acknowledge me what's so ever! Geez! And I knew better to think I would get a massage after that fiasco! I wish the workers wouldn't speak in their native language especially when it's obvious they are upset! I will not be returning to this place! I have my face waxed here and she does an excellent job and is very thorough. She double checks to make sure all the hair is removed and that all the wax is off and then groom's the eyebrows. The price is also reasonable and Mindy is very pleasant. read more

I went in for a new set, and was extremely disappointed. The nail tech was extraordinarily rough. She was also very rude. She was impatient, and didn't care about any of my needs. I wanted the nails long, she cut them short. I asked for stiletto and kept asking for them to have a sharper point, she gave me almond. If she hurt me (which she did, multiple times) she didn't apologize or try to be softer. The only good thing about this experience was the fact that they carried the chrome powder. (Though it was an extra $20) in conclusion, the nails look nice; just not what I initially wanted. And my nail tech was horrible. read more

My spot used to be at Tucson Mall. I was very dedicated, until I considered getting a silk wrap done. Tucson doesn't offer silk wraps anymore so I had to search around for a bit. Finally, I found Paulene's and decided to try them out. Took a while to locate them because my Google Maps gave me the wrong address but once I walked in, they were extremely friendly and helpful. The technician was very gentle and explained everything to me. She even did my design from Pinterest very nicely. I left very satisfied! I plan to go back and try their pedicures soon. read more
