I have been seeing Dr John for several years now and cannot say enough good things. On short notice when I was hit with flu or sinus infections he made time to get me in quickly. When meeting with him I always feel he is very interested in my well being and is never rushed. read more

I would like to update my previous review written on 2/20/12. As I stated previously, I would give Dr. John himself 5 stars, and that opinion still stands. The front office staff has gotten more polite and personal... and it really makes a difference. The last review was written to point out what I thought was a serious flaw and a poor decision... the launch of an elite "patients only" club (see details in previous post). I am super-duper happy to announce that Dr. John decided not to participate in the program. He is still operating a wonderful, open-to-all office and I am pleased to still be a patient. He truly is awesome!! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. John's for 15 years and he is by far the best family care physician I have ever encountered. I was actually shocked to see several negative reviews but it seems the common denominator of these reviews related to prescription refills. I have never had any of these issues that the people are describing. Everyone in the office has always been kind, courteous, and professional. It seems to me that some of these people leaving negative reviews are upset that they didn't get their scripts filled, perhaps due to the fact that they were in the wrong, so they try to get back at the practice by leaving negative reviews. This seems awfully childish to me and a clear case of "sour grapes" mentality. Here's the bottom line: Dr. John is an amazing Family Doctor and he truly cares about his patients. Over the 15 years I have been a patient, Dr. John could have easily dropped me as a patient due to the complexity of my medical issues, but he didn't. The amount of time he had to spend with me versus the amount of money he was making from a small copay and the small amount that my insurance actually approved, was definitely not in his favor. Let's also keep in mind that Dr John and his staff are obviously human, and sometimes mistakes happen. They are not robots and having an expectation of perfection is absurd. Additionally, if someone is rude to the front staff, I would not blame the front staff for mirroring that type of "rudeness." It goes back to the old saying, treat others the way you would like to be treated. Simple as that. Those of us that are lucky enough to have Dr. John as a family doctor, truly appreciate everything that he and his staff have done for us. For me, he has literally been a life saver!! Once Dr. John retires, finding a replacement family physician with similar knowledge, experience, expertise, and sincerity, is going to be a very difficult task to say the least. read more

Dr. Paul John is an awesome physician. I have been going to him for over 10 years and have referred countless new patients. Everyone I refer to him loves him too. He's a great doctor who spends the time to actually talk AND listen to what you have to say. Ivonne who is his PA is also great. read more

Both Dr. Paul John and Nurse Practitioner Ivone Bickham are professional and knowledgable and I trust them with the care of my entire family. I can imagine how challenging it is in the current environment to run a profitable medical office. It is impossible to predict exactly how long each patient will require, but on the other hand, there must be a certain number of appointments scheduled in order to not go broke. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes for an appointment, but I think that overall the front office does a good job at the difficult task of scheduling. I have found the staff to be professional and helpful. read more

Good doctor and new NP, Brittani. Overall, everyone is very friendly. They sometimes stumble on returning phone calls but otherwise they're great. I've been a patient for 5-6 years and referred a good handful of people. I would recommend this office overall. read more

I've been going to Dr. John for a little over a year and 1/2 and I have to say he is one of the best I've ever met; possibly the best. Dr. John goes out of his way to make accommodations to solve problems. The longest I've ever had to wait in his office past my appointment time was around 5-10 minutes just because others were late to their appointments. Dr. John is just an all-around good person and his office staff members are all incredibly sweet. His medical assistant, Lauren is sweet and bubbly and also she's cute as a button! read more

Dr. John was my primary health care provider for many years. He has always been very interested in me, what's currently going on in my life and most importantly, my wellbeing. I like Dr. John because he's very easy to open up to and talk with and as a guy I think that's pretty important. Another reason I like Dr. John is that his staff is always on the ball and I don't have to camp out in his office all day to be seen. The only reason I don't see Dr. John today is because I've moved too far away from his office. Truthfully, I hate it now that I no longer see him. Dr. John is pretty amazing at what he does. read more

I have nothing but GREAT things to say about Dr. John!! I met him through an old boss back when I was a nanny with I insurance. He helped me out by discounting my visit and gave me samples for my meds. Obviously he can't do that all the time but he knew I was in a bind. 11 years later I still only go to Dr.John. He is funny, kind and cares not only about my health but how I am in general. He always asks what's going on in your life and stops for small chitchat. As soon as my kids turn old enough I'm switching them to him . I believe he sees children around 6 years old and up. I have never felt rushed or not important as a patient. He's the kind of guy you want to hang out with and make your friend. Thank you Dr. John for putting up with me through all my adventures. College, new bride, new mommy, you name it, you've been there!!! Here's to another X amount of years!!! read more

I usually don't write reviews on Yelp, but I was extremely shocked to see so many negative reviews about Dr. John. He has been my primary care physician for the past 19 years. There has not been an appointment where I have been unsatisfied. He gets involved and cares for his patients. There's not another doctor I would rather see. read more

Great friendly staff, got appt quickly and got the right meds. Would recommend their service over many other doctor office. However, charging $50 admin fee per person for the year on top of my copay when I only go to the doctor once or twice a year is little too much. I got insurance to save money, not spend more. read more

His ratings are misleading as the plan he attempted to instill was put aside. So hopefully these folks will change their ratings. That being said, Dr. John is the best doctor i have ever had. I'm currently almost 40 so I have had many doctors. Why he is good: He listens and discusses what your options are, never doubts your illness or pains, not afraid to prescribe you with what you need, he is quick and has a great personality. The receptionist is great at what she does but yes, she may not be the most personable but I have ran into a lot more surly receptionist at hotels, banks and other doctor's offices. I am so glad he didn't go through with VIP thing. But I will miss Ivonne. read more

I have been a patient of this practice for about 4 years and I have been very happy with the quality of care and time that the providers spend making sure me and my family are well taken care of. Dr. John is very experience but still very compassionate and his nurse practitioner has also been great in caring for me and my family. I recommend them to my family and friends routinely. read more

I have been seeing DR John since 1997. He has become more than just a DR to me during the years. I consider him a friend and someone that truly cares about my wellness. I have been dx with several chronic illnesses during the time that I have seen him. I see many specialists but no one do I trust more with my health and overseeing my conditions. He never undermines what I am feeling and ensures that I get the care that I deserve. Trust me, you will not find a better DR. read more

NOTE: This is a repost from a review I left on Google. Same message and leaving everything as is as it's still accurate I have never been compelled to write a review on any platform until today. I would highly suggest for anyone who is seriously considering to visit this office and is looking at review to please reconsider another physician. As most of the 1 star reviews are left, this is mainly towards the office management/financial practices of the office. To make a long story short, my insurance refunded their payment for my office visits, that's fine. I have no problems paying any patient responsibility......that being said....I am upset with how they proceeded to get my card number and without informing me....charged my card. They left me voicemails on the week of 08/20 (btw even if they or their social rep say they called earlier...it really doesn't matter that's not the point) stating I had a balance. The next week (this review date of 08.28) I called the office and the informed me they charged my card on file. The problem is I didn't update the card on file because I had fraud charges earlier and received a new card. What I believe they've done to obtain my new card is use my payment info from my last visit and used the card info they obtained through my POS system. They did this without my permission. Let me ask this, what if that wasn't my card I used last time? What if I borrowed my Mom, Sister, Brother etc. card? Are they just going to use any payment info they have? Nevermind the fact they save your last payment method without your permission or nevermind the fact even in their voicemail THEY DON"T TELL YOU THAT THE USE YOUR CARD INFO WITHOUT PERMISSION. I called them back asking the office manager this (Mora?) and all she did was mention blank responses like "Well, we're a small office and we need to recover our debts" and "You signed a form that allows us to do this". Will await this form and for the recovering debts issue.....that's why you use the services of collection company. You don't just use people's card info from the last successful payment, pull that and charge away. BTW don't really expect to see Dr. Paul John. Every time I have been there I have only seen the NP who is wonderful, but still the point. Please guys, notice that you're seeing repetitive issues regarding the office staff, overall themes of money/payment, not seeing the Dr. etc. I'm not mad about having a bill. I just have a problem with anyone obtaining my card info and charging without my permission. read more

I just googled Dr. Paul John to refer him to a friend, and thought I would also write a review. Paul and Yvonne are fantastic! Great medical care, great customer service - highly recommend for general family care. read more

I can guarantee that Dr. John's office doesn't care about these reviews. But that's okay, it's better for you to know that you shouldn't go here: I needed a prescription refill, and when I called to get the refill the "witch" that others mention on yelp said since I hadn't had a physical exam in over a year, I needed to go in anyway, so I scheduled this, I thought. (BTW I didn't have any issues with the "witch", I think she's just fine.) I went in for my exam, and before going in I had to pay a $30 service fee(?) and a $30 co-pay. Clearly I shouldn't have paid this, but I went along anyhow. It turned out after I went in for my physical, they weren't actually doing this at all. This was what's called a "prescription visit". Since I didn't actually get the annual exam I was expecting, I contested this to the front desk. They didn't care and instead explained to me that Obamacare has messed everything up and that they need to make money somehow. I asked if they could please speak to Dr. John about it, because I didn't want to have to change doctors over $60. The resolution? Dr. John called me personally on the phone and told me I need to find a new doctor. Just be warned - this is not the place to go. The reason that complaints fall on deaf ears is because Dr. John is making his money and just doesn't care. read more

Decided to come back and review some of the other's comments and see Dr. John and his office staff and still are still as bad as I experienced. I still stand by my comment that he's not a bad doctor, but the way he runs his office and treats customers who have a negative experience needs improvement. I thought I'd add the fact I had asked both in letters and calls to have Dr. John call me to discuss the issues. He NEVER did. To say I'm disappointed with him in particular is an understatement. read more

I'm very happy with my experience at Dr. John's office. I don't mind the service charge or prescription refill fee others have mentioned, those charges exist anywhere you go. I've been seeing them for 3 years and they have been so helpful, supportive, personable, and accommodating. Whenever I've needed an urgent appointment, they've found a way to schedule me in. They always return my after-hour messages the next business day, and refill my prescription as soon as I call. They are very supportive and reassuring, and I feel very cared-for, comfortable, and heard. Liz and Sheryl are wonderful. They are very knowledgeable, professional and calm. Casey the NP is my favorite. She's been a very important part of my experience there. Everyone there works together very synergistically. I recommend them to all my friends. read more

I saw Dr. John in 2007 with weight issues (I was 21 at the time). Dr. John said I needed to be exercising and eating right (which I already was) and said that if he's a doctor and he can manage workout and eat right with a busy schedule then so could I. The nurse practitioner showed me my T3 & T4 test results had come back as borderline HypoThyroid. Did they try to put me on thyroid meds or run other tests? No, they put me on anti-depressants. First he gave me Effexor XR which gave me terrible nightmares/side effects. Then he put me on Wellbutrin which made me gain weight! I have been battling this issue ever since then and have visited other doctors. I am happy to say I am now under the wonderful care of a naturopathic doctor in Houston who discovered I had leaky gut syndrome due to food intolerances. I'm now losing weight and feeling 100% better. It's taken eight years to get back to optimal health and I think of Dr. John as the orange caution cone I should have gone around to get there. Dr. John and his team made me feel insignificant and dismissed my issue like I was just being lazy and overeating. Maybe his practice has changed, maybe not, but one thing I do know is I wish someone would have shown me a review like this before I went to see him. read more

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. First the main secretary is a complete witch... The only way I could ever get anything across to her is by being a witch myself... My first visit i need to get 4 TINY warts removed from my foot... Not only did they have a resident do it but they also charged me 200 dollars when I had already met my deductible so then they had me come back to pick up a check for 166 dollars! really? not to mention I had to go back in again because they didnt get rid of my warts just left scars over them! warts are disgusting scarred warts are worse! So i went back in again! Dr Paul did them this time. They tried to charge me 200 dollars again so i said are you going to have to give me a refund like you did the first time? They checked again and said oh sorry! you owe 23 dollars! #$@&@^*! are you kidding me? Now that my foot is healed my warts are still there... Wont be going back and wont be recommending them to ANYONE! ugh off to find another doc if anyone has any suggestions please let me know read more

I have been a patient of Dr. John's and his Nurse Practitioner, Ivone Bickham's, for over 10 years and they are the best health care professionals I have ever seen. I never feel rushed, they always listen to me and pay close attention to my symptoms and concerns. The practice of Dr. Paul John is absolutely the best caregiver group I have ever been associated with. My family of 4 has been seeing Drl John and Yvonne for over 4 years. Professional, courteous, knowledgeable and you can feel that special sincerity in their practice. Naomi in the front office is unbelievably awesome. Dr. John must really pay attention to the specialist that he refers his patients to also. He doesn't just refer you to any specialist. His referrals are evidently checked out thouroughly and he will change specialist if they do ot provide a good service. Best medical practice in Austin and maybe the best in the U.S. Currently not accepting new patients and the reason is obvious. They are the best! read more

Neither good nor bad. They take Aetna and a 100% family owned, unlike the big hospitals. The yearly fees not covered by insurance were a surprise, but not unaffordable ($30/patient), and that means you can always get an appointment, so they can limit volume. That being said, you have to call them several times, before they pick up or call you back. While some of the reviews mention the weight products he has in the office, he never tried to pitch them to me, so I never had a negative experience. He has advil coupons in the lobby. read more

I called to make an appointment for my husband as a new patient. Before they even asked for a name, they asked about insurance (I understand needing to establish eligibility, but it was less than courteous.) Their tone was rude and condescending. Midway through the phone call, the person I was talking to said she would be back but put someone else on the phone. The second person answered the phone laughing. It was all very rude. When they told me that my husband wouldn't be seen until next week, I said I would find someone else and hung up the phone. Normally, I would have accepted the later appointment but their attitude was so terrible that I decided to go elsewhere. read more

Dr. John is wonderful Doctor. He very intelligent and has a wonderful manner. He is very thorough and doesn't ever make me feel rushed.

Dr. John has been a good doctor for our family for over 20 years. His wife, however, is the rudest, the coldest, mean spirited, uncaring person I have ever seen. I was late for my appointment and it was his last appointment of the day but I didn't know that being the appointment was at 3:30 and it was on a Thursday and he is not there on Fridays. We pulled into the parking lot at 3:40. After I was sitting in the car while Mike had and in to get from the car to wheelchair I fell and my husband couldn't get me up by himself. I had Eventually, a man came out of the building and was able to help and so now we get up to Dr. Johns office and we were told he just left for the day at 3:45. I was out of the car and standing up because Mike (husband) had the wheelchair out. Before I could get into the wheelchair I fell down on my face and head. Mike couldn't lift me up. We screamed HELP as loudly as we could for over an hour. Mike had his phone out to call your office could hoping to get someone to help. I had the appoint to refill my meds, but I was planning to talk to the doctor because I needed a release from him the that. My next call is my lawyer. There is more, but I will continue but I am tired. This affects my husband and my grown daughter also. There is much more we have regarding stupid $100 fee, forgetting things that he does that a well planned read more

Dr. John is great! For those of you reading additional reviews, he dropped plans to join VIPMD so you can disregard comments about paying extra to be in an limited group of patients. I've been seeing him 17 years and wouldn't leave except for a recent corporate move out of Austin. AND, I have always appreciated his office staff. My husband and I had been going to Dr John for 12 years or more. Recently we have changed doctors due to the fact the he and some of his staff have lost their professionalism! I called in for nasal spray which they had prescribed me indefinitely and I was a month late on my yearly physical due to their availability. The receptionist, which i found later, was Dr john's wife, would not let me speak to anyone else in office, even though I felt she was rude and non helpful! Her answer to me was we cannot call in your prescription unless you see dr john. I said Ive never had this problem before I don't understand. I never raised my voice or cussed her. I simply wanted to speak to a nurse or anyone else. She continued to tell me that anyone i spoke with in her office would tell me the same thing. So I scheduled the appt the next day. The next morning dr john leaves on my vm that he would call in a prescription for nasal but i need to find a new dr because that was his wife and she said i was rude to her! After seeing dr john for 12 or more years, he didn't even ask what happened and can we resolve it! Which actually, is fine because the last couple years he and his staff have been falling short of customer service, no return calls for blood work or questions and rushing in his office, which he used to not do, delayed appts. due to over booking. No, I would never recommend this office! Farewell Dr John, too bad you cannot be professional any longer! read more
