I've been going to Thrive for a long time but I've been put off lately by the experience of messaging with them. I really like Dr. Crear and some of the PAs so it's a shame that the messaging service is not held to a high standard. Honestly, it's like talking to a child...but one who clearly uses AI to polish their grammar. The level of incompetence - with incorrect prescriptions called in and incorrect information relayed - is concerning. I hope they don't have these medical assistants completing tasks that require common sense, like relaying important test results. I know practices are trying to increase profits, especially those practices that are owned by private equity (which this place may be--IDK). But please consider your patients. Don't run a competent practice into the ground by having these assistants do what medical professionals should be doing. Employ some actual nurses to answer patient questions for god's sake, not just "medical assistants." read more

I live on the same street as Thrive and was thrilled to see a clinic built in very close proximity. I've seen 4 providers here but have had the best experiences with the following: Dr. Brad Venghaus- I believe he's the founder of this clinic. He's extremely kind, patient, and overall an excellent doctor. I enjoy having him as my PCP. I just wish I didn't have to schedule so far out for an appointment. It's a blessing and a curse, because he's so popular! Mariana Racovita- I recently had an acute visit with Mariana and she was wonderful. Kind, courteous and more importantly thorough. I'd love to continue seeing her as well. The other staff (medical assistants and front desk) have been good for the most part. I've had some off experiences but are willing to look past due to the overall quality care received from Thrive. Shout out to the lab techs though, because they are always wonderful! It's short and sweet but I had to get a new PCP moving to Austin. After being discharged from St Davids, I knew followup would be something I had to prepare for. I was pleasently surprised - it almost made me want to get sick every day! (well you know what I mean *laughing*) From the moment I walked in and confused myself checking in on a tablet (I am a global engineer for super computing - my microwave still blinks 12:00 - go figure) to the gentleman doing my vitals, to Makayla who is smiling and good fun to talk about my admittedly beaten body I call home. Dr. Crear is absolutely amazing and she provides excellent care with empathy and education! I've learned so much about how to advocate for my health and I appreciate how she advocates for me as well. The front desk staff are usually welcoming and so kind. The checkin process is easy and smooth. I also appreciate the lab tech! My wife recently visited Thrivemedical and had a generally positive experience, although she did mention that the exam rooms lacked privacy--you could clearly hear everything happening in the rooms next to hers. Based on her visit, I decided to schedule an appointment for myself. I had a 2:00 PM appointment and arrived early. Check-in was smooth, and I was taken back fairly quickly. However, that's where things started to go downhill. After taking my vitals, I was moved to another exam room and left waiting. I sat there with no updates until 2:40 PM, at which point I got up to ask if someone was coming to see me. Only then was I informed that the doctor was running about 40 minutes behind schedule. Unfortunately, that kind of delay without any prior notice or communication just doesn't work for me, and I had to leave. I was issued a refund and offered the option to reschedule, which I respectfully declined. read more

Dr. Venghaus is an absolute great Dr. and bedside manner is top notch! He has been my entire families Dr. for over a decade and I strongly recommend him. the low rating is due to his staff's inability to update refills or stronger dose changes to prescribed medications. I am told it will be a very easy process while I am at their office and 100% of the time it is not. They point fingers at insurances or drug stores or anyone else, it just becomes a "not my problem" someone else did not do what they were supposed to do. So I have to spend my day chasing everyone down. Very frustrating!! They need to figure this out. other Dr. offices I go to have no problem with this. read more

Husband and I moved back from Maryland to here, upon getting this as our pcp is regrettably bad. The front office lady is blatantly complicated and refused to make things right for us. We called two months ago that I'm a deaf person and bring my own interp. That is apparently not a case when we paid a visit. She made every excuses on why, but and what. Husband's appointment is 10 mins from my appointment, they said dr is running late and that I'll wait until husband's session is done. After his session is wrapped up, she came up with different excuse, I can't be seen because it is 4:20 ish now and would need to be rescheduled. According to ADA laws- "This publication is designed to help title II and title III entities ("covered entities") understand how the rules for effective communication, including rules that went into effect on March 15, 2011, apply to them. The rules apply to communicating with the person who is receiving the covered entity's goods or services as well as with that person's parent, spouse, or companion in appropriate circumstances." They refused to see me because I don't want to use Video relay internet (they're utterly inconvenient and the quality isn't consistent) and they changed their mind after husband's appointment. I'm leaving this review a one star review. This is a disappointing experience. Edit: update 2- Your response is once again validating my complaint. My original appointment is today, 30th of August at 340pm. I haven't missed it. See the screenshots showing the timestamp from few days ago I received a reminder.. I selected this doctor by throwing a dart at a list and it shows. They are the worst. Slow to respond. Slow to fulfill prescriptions. They then say "the pharmacy never sent them" when the pharmacy then shows proof they sent them three times. The office staff are rude. Getting an appointment is challenging. They dropped me as a patient when I complained about how slow they are. Imagine that? Critical care denied because you have the nerve to say "hey - can you all respond to things faster?" Dr. Crear is very thorough in the care I receive from her and she has always been very willing to answer questions with details. She remembers or she notes subjects/questions I bring up and she will follow up the subject in subsequent visits. She is very thorough and careful in the way she provides treatment, weighing the different solutions/treatments available and will include me in the process. She never rushes through a visit with me nor does she watch the clock. I cannot say enough about Dr. Crear but it is all positive. The support staff is also thorough and pleasant to have take care of me while I'm there. read more

I was there back in February but just now have the courage to write a review. This was my first time back to a doctor's office after not being insured for almost a year so I had a couple of issues I wanted to discuss with her. I had read some reviews ahead of time about bad interactions with front desk, but in my experience, they were wonderful. Very helpful and made sure I was properly checked in, super friendly. The two stars go for the bad experience I had with the medical provider herself. I am not sure if maybe she was having a bad day or had something personally against me, I didn't care to ask to be honest. From the moment she came into the room she was cold and had a "what do you need" attitude. Every issue I brought forward was shut down. She said that there was no reason to look into a certain issue because "You don't have symptoms anymore and you're going to spend a lot of money for nothing." I then brought up another one of my issues and called it a "stress ball" because that is what I would hear my mom call it when I was younger (I come from a Mexican household so it could have just been old theories and not at all medically accurate) but instead of kindly correcting me or even asking more questions about my symptoms, she looks at me like I'm stupid and in the most condescending tone says "There is no such thing as stress balls, I have never heard of that." By that point I felt so emotionally beat up that I didn't bring up any other issue I wanted to discuss. All I wanted to do was get out of her office since it felt like I was a huge waste of her time. People are already hesitant to visit doctor's offices and this is the reason why. It's been over two months already and I still don't feel confident in going back to see a doctor. A little bit of kindness goes a long way. Doctors are smart and should be there to help us through our concerns, not shut us down and push us away. Very sad I had to write this review. read more

Dr. Brad Venghaus is amazing. he is my cardiologist personal physician so I took Dr Grad's recommendation to see him, so glad I did. The staff was friendly, short wait, very clean. I love the Dr V as my new PCP. Super great conversation, personable, attentive, didn't miss a thing and I am always someone who hyper scrutinizes everything looking for mistakes. TLDR: Their front desk staff is awful. They don't honor their 15min grace period (officially stated on their website). I was running late, but I had my friend call ahead saying I'm on my way. They informed him it was ok and that they have their 15min grace period and that they are aware of me still going to show up. I received a voicemail 10min into my grace period saying they already marked me as no-call (?!?the call my friend made on my behalf) no-show. I arrive at 15min exactly but they already mark me as no-show at 10min. The front desk staff told me "oh your appointment is short so we don't have a grace period for short appointments", then they said "oh the 15 min grace period means you gotta be here A COUPLE OF MINUTES EARLIER than the 15 min is up"?!? Then, I asked for my medical notes from my only visit with them for my future primary physician and they said THEY CHARGE 25$ FOR INK AND PAPER! we tried to make an appointment online for my 70-year old mother-in-law who's visiting from out of state, and scheduled an establishing in-person visit. We were on our way there when she got a voicemail that said her appointment was scheduled for online and that wasn't right for an initial visit and she'd have to reschedule. We immediately called and got Eric - who's apparently actually a potato, as he confirmed the in-person appointment. We continued on our way, only to receive a text a few minutes later asking to move the appointment as "15 minutes isn't enough time for an establishing appointment - which we had zero control over. We scheduled an in-person establishment appointment. We called back and got potato - I mean Eric, who stated at least a dozen times that a 15 minute appointment wasn't enough time for an establishing appointment - which, again, we don't control - and was generally just that sniveling rude that Austin's known for. No help. He eventually - when asked - transfer the call where we got the same story. Get your shit together, people. And when someone calls because they got a voicemail about the appointment (and the customer is clear about that to the front desk potato), take a second to actually look at what's happening rather than dismissing a confused 70-year old lady so her daughter has to call back to figure things out. Thrive is my go-to for primary care in Austin. Unfortunately I'm someone who suffers from constant allergies, sinus infections, colds, etc and Thrive has always been able to fit me in either in person or virtually whenever I have needed. Their facility is very clean and in a newer medical building. They accept my Aetna insurance plan and are reasonably priced for one off visits for flu/covid testing. I primarily see Dr Venghaus but have seen Angela the PA and another PA whose name I can't recall. All are great providers and experienced. read more

The latest negative reviews are all about their front desk staff. If owner / management can hire better staffs or improve their staff's attitude toward customer service , that will make patient experience much better. As I was in the lobby she was on the phone with someone talking badly about a patient who was asking if her insurance was covered. Everyone who walked in to check in they had an attitude with although every patient was kind and respectful towards them. I came in for a yearly physical which is covered at 100% by insurance. When I proceeded to get blood work in the lab, I was told I have to pay for some of the blood work. I asked the office to confirm with my insurance because this should be covered at 100%. They replied with "we don't call insurance." So I had to do the work for them, playing liaison between Thrive and my insurance. I had my insurance on speaker asking if these labs are covered. To which they stated the coding is incorrect. When I asked Thrive for the correct 5 digit code that the insurance needs, not only did they provide the wrong 4 digit code several times, they also refused to look for the correct 5 digit code. At this point, I have been waiting for 1.5 hours, then was asked to leave the office while I figure out this by myself. No one would help me. No one would answer my questions regarding this blood work. My doctor was nowhere to be found. I expressed that I refuse to move forward until this matter is settled so as to not receive a surprise bill after the fact. It has now been 2 hours and I still have no correct answers from Thrive to get these labs approved by insurance. I requested to speak to my doctor immediately, as she still has not checked in on me. A male doctor whom I do not know appeared asking what the problem is. I explained and his response is that the insurance companies and US healthcare are the problem. After going back and forth again, with Thrive providing the wrong code, that male doctor finally provided a generic code for the blood work which made the lab 100% covered. It only took two hours. I left the office crying because of the incompetence and lack of care the people at Thrive showed me. My doctor never followed up with me nor she did she even ask if everything was okay that day. A week later, I received a letter that my doctor is terminating our relationship and sent me a bill!!!! I called to ask why I was billed as this annual physical should have been covered at 100%. They replied "did you talk about other things in the visit? Like your nails and how you almost fainted?" I replied "Angela, my doctor asked 'is there anything else?' So yes I answered her question." Just like in every single doctor visit, when a doctor asks "is there anything else", I will reply accordingly. Had I known she would bill me for answering a simple question, I would never say anything at all. I no longer trust doctors as this experience has tainted my views in healthcare providers. Rather than having my best interest in mind, Angela, my doctor, blindsided me by asking follow up questions without disclosing that I will be billed should I answer her questions. I have never visited a doctor where they asked "is there anything else?" and was subsequently charged extra for answering the question. This is unethical medical practice, tricking your patients into answering questions then charging your patients without prior knowledge. I was really hopeful this relationship would work out and I would have a trustworthy healthcare provider who cares about me as a patient. Now I am left scarred from Thrive and never wanting to see another doctor again. read more

I've been with this practice for a few years and I've generally had good experiences except this past year. Dr Mariana was so condescending and when I would mention wanting to adjust my medications she simply attributed it to size and weight. She made assumptions about me and dismissed my concerns entirely. She did not ask any life style questions about my diet or my exercise. Every few words she just glanced down at my stomach. I felt so judged and overlooked. I left the appointment incredibly disappointed. I currently take a depression medication which has changed my life for the better. I never miss a dose because when I do my mental health suffers as does my social and work life. Knowing this I take great care to make sure I keep any eye on my refills. I noticed I had about a week and half left and I put in a refill request through my pharmacy. Fast forward a few days I see it's still pending so I call Thrive Medical requesting my refill and stated I was running out. I asked them to please let me know if I can help move anything along. Didn't hear back until today (Friday) I need to be seen before my refill can be processed. They are closed on weekends. I work at a doctors office I know that is a very reasonable and needed thing to be seen. However what disgusts me is there lack of communication to me and my pharmacy. Thanks to their incompetency and delay I will not be able to refill my medication for 3 days. I've never missed a dose in 2 years. I feel through there actions and mishandling is going to damage my mental health and has severely compromised my mental care. read more

Do not trust this clinic! They are dishonest. They just terminated me as a patient because I tried to speak up about the office manager Melissa misrepresenting a situation that took place. There is no patient advocate department at this office, and they do not record their phone calls, so the manager is accountable to no one. I was told that a doctor would call me but no one ever called. I was initially told by a THrive representative that records could only be sent to a specialist's office if that actual office called to ask for a form, then faxed back the form requesting those records. This was different than any other office I had been to so I asked, "can't I just request my records be sent myself?" I was told no. I spent 2 full hours explaining this unique policy to the specialist office, waiting on hold with managers, begging them to meet this unique request. After much convincing, the specialist office did me the favor of putting in the request but after a week later, they still never received my records from Thrive clinic. When I spoke with Thrive's manager Melissa about it being unusual that the specialist office has to request records, she at first said, "THAT'S OUR POLICY!" It was clear she wasn't listening to anything I was saying, because she later stated the opposite, that I could have just requested the records myself. I again explained what the first representative had stated but she would not hear it- she kept speaking over my voice and changing the subject. When we three-way called the specialist's office, I started explaining Thrive's initial error, and Melissa yelled over my voice that that had never happened. I was in shock at such gaslighting behavior. I later called Thrive and asked to speak with Melissa's manager. I was told she had none and the doctor would call me back. The doctor never called, and by his email it had appeared Melissa must have told him that I was the one confused because the majority of his letter was explaining their office policy for sending over records, which I already knew, which was consistent with every other office, but was the opposite of what I was initially told by Thrive representatives. I wasn't sure if the doctor was going to call me back or not. When I called to ask, they told me no- the issue has already been taken care of. Then they transferred me to Melissa. She was ecstatic and overjoyed. I didn't understand her happiness until she told me "we are terminating you from this office." When I asked for the reason, she stated "we don't have to give you a reason." So I guess the way they take care of issues at this office is by getting rid of all the evidence? I look forward to working with a more trustworthy doctor's office. I do not put up with this type of bullying and manipulation, and other patients should not have to either. My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Venghaus for over 5 years. We recently changed insurance at the end of last year, but we hit a snag when they contacted Thrive's admin team to get medical history. What was reported was everything that was noted from every visit my wife had ever attended...EVERYTHING!! This includes inconclusive test results, "neck pain" (which she never went in to get treated for, but was asked if she had and casually said "yes, sometimes"). My wife was denied by the insurer due to being "high risk" based on the information that was provided by the admin team. I contacted them to gain clarification, because the items that were reported were never officially diagnosed and treatment plans were never put into place. She never was treated for neck pain and after speaking with the admin team over there, they made clear the notes weren't serious enough to warrant treatment plans. My insurance broker asked if they could write a note stating as such so the underwriter could gain more clarity on the situation. I started contacting Thrive at the beginning of January about this. First they told me that Dr. Venhaus was on vacation for the holidays into the first week of January, and when he returned they'd talk to him about that. Then when he got back, he was out shortly thereafter due to illness (ok...). THEN, when he was back "he was playing catch up, and they would try to get a word from him on it". That was 10 days ago. Meanwhile, my wife has been uninsured for the entire month of January due to the their lack of care for our situation, which they happened to put us in by reporting non-crucial, non-pertinent notes to the insurance company. At this point, we are going to find a new PCP because it is abundantly clear that we do not rank as important to their staff. I have no idea if they've even talked to Brad Venghaus about our situation, and at this point we just need to figure out what to do on our own as they are of no help to us. The admin team at this office is terrible at communicating and follow through. This situation has been very stressful and has left us vulnerable for no other reason than their office can't get us a simple word, one way or another, as to whether they would write a letter to help us. That speaks volumes to their level of patient care. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you want an attentive medical staff. read more

The Dr. is attentive and knowledgeable. However, be warned that Thrive medical has a horrible billing and administration department. They misinformed me about my insurance benefits for a set of labs. They told me (after I asked them specifically during my visit) that the labs they are running are routine and would be covered under insurance. However, I got an enormous bill from the lab a couple months after the visit stating that insurance rejected the claims and I have to pay the entire amount out of pocket!! If you try to call their billing department to sort the issue, their staff is never there to answer the call and will respond to your voicemail after a few days at odd times when it is convenient for them. More importantly, after lying and misinforming the patient about insurance benefits, they then put the blame on the patient stating in a matter of fact way that it is the patient's responsibility to check the information they provide with the insurance (how is that even possible when the labs are scheduled during a visit after specifically checking with them). Worst experience I have had with billing and admin team at a provider. Highly recommend people to stay away from this clinic for that reason! They try to portray an image that they are nice and helpful when they are actually incompetent and ignorant of how they are screwing patients over. The incompetence of their billing and administration team is making me pay about ~$500 out of pocket when I am in a financially strapped situation and they really don't care about it!! read more

I've had two unimpressive and one disturbing experiences here. My first appointment was with Dr Artur, he was so burnt out that he could care less about anything going on with my health. My second (and most recent) appointment was with Dr Gail Crear. I've been struggling with pain, and this time, had a list of tests I would like ran. She was annoyed at my questions, homework, and then proceeded to ask me "so do you want the physical today?" extremely annoyed that she had spent more than 15 minutes. Rather than ordering the tests, she gave me a name of somewhere else to go... without ever looking at the list of tests but still making off putting remarks about my homework and what I wanted tested for. Recently moved to Austin and needed to find a new doctor that was accepting new patients. I saw an opening for Dr. Crear, she was very professional and honest. Made my first visit very enjoyable. The front desk staff were great also. I really like that you can make appointments online through their portal. UPDATE: Yall I love my dr but I went in after change my appointment from zoom to a clinic appointment because over the phone the front desk woman Zomara (spelling it wrong most likely) told me they took CareCredit get all the way there and she trying to charge it as a debit then the manger comes out and says they don't take carecredit and her front desk wouldn't say they do because they know WELL CLEARLY THEY DO NOT KNOW. She refused to let me pay next week or even partial payment after driving all the way there so I had to put it on my credit card. THIRVE PLEASE GET YOUR FRONT DESK TOGETHER. I literally spent 8:30am-11:30am getting a break down of my balance with any other info other than "pay $95 plus your copay or you can't be seen" The front desk is horrible mess. They will call you at 8am wake you up for an appointment reminder then place you on hold forever. They refuse to let me continue my appointment over a $100 balance I have not once been informed of, she will not explain the balance in detail or let me pay the balance when i get paid next week. One man will ignore you and talk to you in a very rude tone but no worries if you're a cute younger girl his domineer will change. Dr. Gail Crear saved me! I went to her for every medical concern. She is an amazing doctor and I will forever recommend her to others. She has great bedside manner and truly cares about her patients. It's not often you find a doctor that you can trust with absolutely all of your health concerns. I recently moved away from Austin so unfortunately she is not my primary care doctor anymore, but she made sure to send me off with a list of Houston area doctors that she recommended. The clinic is beautiful, CLEAN, and serene. There is always feel-good music playing that helps with doc visit anxiety. They are also able to draw blood for lab work, which makes it a one-stop shop. Terrible place. My daughter drove an hour to get here for a 2:30 apt. She filled out her paperwork then had the insurance send over fax at same time and they said fax didn't come through even though we had confirmation by 2:45 so had them fax info over again. Our insurance company called personally to confirm and they put her on hold twice then finally answered almost 15 minutes later and said "we have fax" but it's too late and canceled my daughter's apt. Terrible service and just sad that Dr Brad Vargjus would do this to us as my daughter sat there crying and in pain. Too late to find another place today. So off to Urgent care. I've been a patient for 5+ years but I was denied access to see doctor over a small dollar amount for my annual physical. Their web site doesn't give you any detail whatsoever, so I was unaware. When I asked what was it for she couldn't tell me. I said please let me see the doctor and if there is anything owed I'll take care of it. This office puts a dollar ahead of any medical care, which is very disturbing! It used to be a great place. Doctor Brad is amazing and I have been with him for a years but the billing and the front desk are a big mess. I hope Dr Brad move to different clinic so I can go see him again. Be aware from this scam clinic. Update: The $25 is not the point I visited the doctors couple of times since last September why no one told me about it they always tell me when I have previous balance on the new visit. Am I expecting a bills from you next year for the previous years? I never talk about the 45 minutes waiting in the room because I know sometimes that happens also I never talked about when we called the office for the imaging order that they didn't send it to the imaging office for my wife and when I called your front desk they said your wife doesn't have imaging order. The point is you need to train your front desk and the billing department to serve the patient better. I didn't not that doctor Brad is the owner this is why I said in my first comment I wish doctor Brad move do different clinic because I have been with Dr Brad for a long time before even he move to the new office. Also I requested to talk to Dr Brad about this issue via the portal. They answered after two days that Dr Brad doesn't handle the billing. Again the point is not the $25 the point is responsibility and principles you guys supposed to handle situations with a friendly customer service. Someone supposed to tell about that bill when I visited you last may or June or July. I tried to talk to you privately before I posted on social media and you did not want to talk.
