I had chronic nausea for two years. I've been to several gastroenterologists and general practitioners and none of them could figure it out. I asked Dr. King my symptoms and she told me it sounded like my stomach wasn't creating mucus in a certain spot. So she told me to take a certain brand of pre/probiotic, which I did. And it worked! I struggled with poor sleep for over a year as I'm in menopause and Dr.King refused to give me any type of HRT because I smoke. She had me go down the path of fighting to get a CPAP to work because she insisted my poor sleep was due to sleep apnea. While I do have mild sleep apnea. the CPAP never worked or helped and I ended up giving it back to the DME company. I recently switched doctors and my new doc put me on testosterone cream and 200 mg of progesterone and, wow, I'm sleeping through the night like a baby. It is only estrogen that I cannot take, progesterone and testosterone are fine. I do not recommend Dr. King to anyone. I feel she is very close minded, her bedside manner is terrible and she often runs late without apology. read more

Have had tests done as well as follow-up by her office (good experience) but have not been able to actually see Dr. King in person. Made an appointment to see her way in advance only to have it canceled by her office one week before, then was told it would be another 3 months to see her (or I can call in every day to see if there's been a cancellation). I see so many horrible reviews on here and it doesn't make sense to me. These people writing the negative reviews seem to be extremely sensitive people, entitled and not understanding. This place is a small business. Only a few staff, but are very busy from what I can tell every time I go there. I do have to wait maybe 30 minutes. That includes the time I get there and the time I'm in the room before being seen. This is normal especially if there's only one or two doctors that day. Dr. King owns this business and y'all seem to act like y'all know how to run one. She doesn't always seem to have the most emotion, but that's just how some people are. I can tell she cares about her job and a very hard worker. She cares about her patients, but she does seem to move very quickly but that's just because of how busy she is. Every time I go in she is super thorough and has solved a lot of problems that doctors I'd go to before her couldn't figure out. If you want someone who knows what they are doing and will provide explanation etc this is the place to go. As a new patient of Dr. King I have had 2 pleasant experiences. The front office was helpful and friendly and they were to schedule me in the week that I called. My visit was just a well check and I needed a referral to a specialist. I was impressed that I was seen at the time of my appointment. In previous experiences that's not always the case. It's nice to find a PCP that understands time is valuable for everyone, not just the Dr. The nurse who took my height/ weight/ BP had a pleasant sense of humor despite the monotony of having to do it all day. She eased my nerves and made me feel well taken care of. I had a great experience with Dr. King. She and I had light conversation which was nice. I felt like she was truly engaged and took the time to answer all my questions. Dr. King gave a few recommendations for the specialist I was in need of, and even followed up with me to see if I was able to get in when I went back a few weeks later. At no point did I ever get the feel she was condescending or apathetic. I had two very positive experiences and I'm happy to have a PCP that I feel at ease with. read more

Doctor Susan King is extremely judgmental, short and down right rude. She has a sort of God complex about her. A "I know more than you" "I am better than you" type of attitude. Absolutely no bedside manner what so ever. I started seeing her when I decided to get back on my ADHD medication and immediately she is treating me like an addict or a dealer. It took a lot for me to work up the courage to even go back to therapy and then find a doctor who could prescribe a controlled substance. She makes my blood pressure and heart rate rise significantly and blames it on my medication. I've been on this exact medication before with no issues. Being in her office tiggers (I hate that word) my medical PTSD. Her office staff seem to be at her mercy. I have seen them physically recoil in her presence. The staff is nice but I can see where the revolving door of staff comes from. What makes everything worst is that she has interns shadowing her, I just pray they use it as a lesson on what not to do. read more

I can't believe some of these low star reviews. I have been a client of Dr. Susan King for a good 10 yrs and she is very caring and personable. She helped me through one of my darkest times in a depression and keeps my diabetes in check. I'm now going through menopause and I'm sure in no time she will have my hormones balanced out. I appreciate the fact that she is vested in her patients by studying more that one area in medicine. I have my whole family signed up with her. Doctor King has always been nothing but professional and provided me excellent patient care...however her office manager Michelle is another story. That woman has no place working with humans...of any sort...especially the sick or the suffering. Michelle is a yelly, angry, rude, unconscionable excuse for a front office staff person. 2nd generation of doctors here, her father was my primary care physician for ten years. Dr. King is very thorough and meticulous with her examinations and genuinely cares about your welfare. I first went to her in January of 2009 after not seeing a doctor in a few years and she did a battery of tests on me, then called me back and had me come in for a free follow up to talk about things. Mostly ways I could improve my diet and exercise and cut down my weight and cholesterol. When I came back six months later with progress to show her, she was very proud of me, even patted me on the butt on my way out the door. Okay, she didn't really do that, but mentally I felt that way. Her staff is friendly and courteous, although prone to being a little slow. Also, this office recently moved up north, near Lakeline Mall. That's a bit of a hike for me now, I am going to have to take time off work to get back here, rather than rushing in for lunch or before work. read more

The negative reviews on this site are from people who have false expectations of what a PCP are able to provide. I went today for a crush injury on my thumb from the gym and found Susan exceeded all my expectations from my doctor. I was a new patient and she was able to get me registered and seen within two days of calling. Other practices had dates open in mid-December which is USELESS for an immediate injury. Dr. King was efficient, friendly and I would have absolutely no reservation in recommending her to anyone. I am now no longer in pain and she explained everything that had happened in as much detail as possible including what to do in future. Do not be hoodwinked by the practices who pay to get the top result on Yelp. This is no indication of their quality of care, just simply shows you how much money they are ripping you off so that they are able to do this. read more

I feel so lucky to have found Dr. King. She is so thorough and truly cares about her patients wellbeing. I was treated at an urgent care because it was after hours and I needed to be seen fast for an infection- they told me it was something so incredibly serious (basically telling me I could die). So I panicked! I frantically searched for a local MD I could regularly see and came across Dr. King. When I went to see her, I was instantly calmed by the wonderful, kind staff and the Dr. herself. She took a look at me, determined what the infection was (absolutely not life threatening, like the urgent care dr. said) and helped me heal up in no time. She knew right away the problem even before lab tests. This is a long story, basically saying, Dr. King is incredibly great, wise and a caring Dr. and I would highly recommend her to anyone. read more

Would highly NOT recommend this doctor. If it was possible to not give ANY stars, I'd do it. Dr. Susan King is very unpersonable, very unprofessionable, and does not care about a patient's health. I had been to her office a few times, and in my gut it felt like she wasn't personable, but I thought I would give it a chance just because I had just started seeing her. Came into her office one day and when the nurse took my blood pressure, it was high. Very high. When Dr. King came in the room to see me, she never acknowledged that. Instead she started off talking about money that I needed to pay (for a visit that she failed to submit to the insurance in a timely manner), never making eye contact with me. It upset me that she was so unconcerned about my visit that I told her that I wanted to cancel the visit and go see someone else. That was when she finally made eye contact with me and began yelling at me (in front of her intern by the way). I got up so that I could leave and she literally blocked me from the doorway still screaming at me. I was able to get out her room and spoke to one of the staff about Dr. Susan' behavior. While we were talking, she came to where we were, continued yelling at me and literally ripped papers in front of me, while she was standing about 3' in front of me. When she was done with that, I told the staff that I wanted to go ahead and pay for whatever it was so that I could be totally done with this office and I would be filing a complaint with the Medical Board. So I left that office with absolutely no care. Later a staff member, Michelle I think, called me and told me that Dr. King said I didnt need to pay. Dr Kings outlandish behavior just confirmed my intuition about this doctor. When a doctor acts so uncaring, selfish and so wildly unprofessional, has no compassion or concern and has this cold look about them, that is extremely dangerous for any patient who goes there for help. Being new to the Austin area and having a PCP for 33 years I was extremely thorough in my search and insisted on a quality physician; along with an office staff that was attentive and competent. I found both at her office; the staff is friendly, yet professional I have found Dr King to be one of the most thorough physicians. Upon my initial visit Dr. King asked detailed questions regarding my current health and history. She also recommended X-rays that have led to further exams that will be life changing in terms of my quality of life. All for the better. I don't believe that this office deserves anything but my complete and utter respect as that is how I have been treated a patient. They get my highest recommendation. read more

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. King. She consistently answers all my questions before and after making my appointment.  Dr. King provides a safe, understanding, sympathetic, private practice, and always accompanies her diagnosis with thorough, understandable explanations. She is patient and kind. Dr. King sees my two toddlers and has never been less than stellar. She is truly an expert but works collaboratively with you. She is the first Doctor I have ever had that concentrated on the body as a whole instead of only treating symptoms. Dr. King and her staff are so accommodating as well. No matter how busy they are, they have always accommodated me and found a way to see me, even if it meant them staying late. Please let me start by saying: my low review is based only on my situation and not my overall view of Dr. King. I'm sure in any normal situation she would have been a fine doctors but my situation was very different. In 2007 I was 23 and went to see Dr. King because I had a cold. She saw me quickly and her staff was great. She was nice and warm and I really enjoyed her as a doctor. (I have no doubt she is the same now.) I was coughing to the point I was getting sick and after she listened to my heart and lungs she told me I was really fine. Perfect! What I wanted to hear! I went home but didn't get better. I was back in her office about 2 weeks later with the same symptoms and feeling a little run down now. She listened to my heart and lungs and told me it was a cold and to take over the counter medicine to kick it. Again, great! Will do and no problem... But there was a problem. I went back 2-3 weeks later with the same symptoms feeling more tired and getting more and more sick to my stomach and my weight starred to drop. I told her I couldn't stop coughing and that I kept getting sick and felt so tired all the time. Dr. King sat across the room listened, and looked through a list of medicines my insurance covered then declared I had bronchitis. The situation didn't get better and 2-3 weeks later I was back with the same symptoms, more tired, unable to make it through my day without taking naps and resting, losing weight, and her nurse had to take my blood pressure 3 times because she didn't believe it was so low. When Dr. King got into the room I explained myself again and she seemed shocked I had been in there only a few weeks before. This is now the 4th time in about 2 months for the same symptoms. I was told, after looking through her blackberry for a list of insurance covered medicines, that acid reflux was the culprit. I have never had reflux issues before, but the doctor know much more than I do, so sure. It must be. I kept telling her I was so hungry and my coughing was bad and started to hurt around my neck... Like something was choking me. About a week later things got worse so, naturally, I went in. Completely frustrated and at my wits end. Dr. King did not remember that I had been there 5 times in these 2 months and didn't notice that I had lost more and more energy, 30 pounds, and my cough got worse. She declared my stomach was paralyzed which was why I was getting sick after coughing and FINALLY decided to take blood. At this point my father was so fed up with this that he made me an appointment with another doctor (please remember I was 23 and trusted doctors and was following her instructions). The second doctor did an x-Ray and found a softball size mass resting on my right lung and heart, climbing and wrapping completely around my trachea and esophagus. I was being chocked and starved to death by a tumor. I had stage III Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer. By the time the test results Dr. King had taken, I had had an x-Ray, CT scan, had a consolation with 3 different doctors about the biopsy, and been in contact with the oncologist. I don't expect any doctor to be able to catch something like this on the first or even second visit. I was young and my issues weren't typical of a family doctor... But when a patient comes in for the same issues over and over and over, she neglected to act. That same cursory blood test she ordered at visit 5, preformed at visit 3 would have saved me weeks of a growing tumor and perhaps chemo treatments (of which I had 12 and 21 rounds of radiation). Her failure to act is what has always made me angry. My life was in the balance and she couldn't be bothered with a simple blood test. I always wanted to ask her if her daughter was in the same situation, what 2 months would have meant to her, became that is what it meant to my family. My father had to watch my mother, grandmother, and me all fight through cancer and go through chemo. All of this cancer history Dr. King knew and of the three women mentioned above, I was the only one to survive. If you are reading this far, thank your for listening to my experience. Personally I'm sure she is wonderful. She was caring and made me feel at ease. As a doctor I do not use her services because I feel like she didn't listen, take me seriously, and her neglect to act on my behave could have cost my life. The tumor was so advanced and growing around my neck, that I would have needed a tracheotomy and feeding tube within 2 months as both would have been closed completely. read more

Not a good experience at all. I called to set up a new patient appointment. The lady on the phone was rude, sounded pissed off . Sorry you had to do your job!!! I get there early to fill out paper work, was asked for my DL and ins card. I explained how I just got my insurance and had no cards. The lady tells me you need those cards and starts raising her voice. I asked you couldn't call the ins , and validate that way? I tried to explain other places did. She tells me, in attitude voice " that's not how we do it here" she became the biggest bitch I have ever met anywhere. Dr king it was the lady working 2-24-15 at 1130 am in braids. I really have been fretting over this review, but I did schedule an appointment with this doctor based on Yelp reviews. FYI, this one is worth reading the filtered reviews. I had some big issues, and probably won't be returning. I scheduled an appointment and got in during a day and time that was convenient for me. I filled out the paperwork online and brought it with me. I arrived early, about 10 minutes for a new patient. The lady who appeared to be the office manager took my license, insurance card, and my paperwork. I sat for nearly 20 minutes in the waiting room while she supposedly got my information in to the system, and the MA sat next to her making patient calls. She called me back up to the window about 10 minutes in and gave me back my cards and told me that someone would be with me shortly. Little did I know that someone was sitting up front making call after call while I waited well past my appointment time. After the MA called me back, we went in to a side room where she proceeded to ask me a few questions, and stated that my information had not been put in to the system yet - I'm sorry, what? I had been waiting for 20 minutes, how is that possible? She did my height, weight, BP, and asked me a few questions. We chatted a little and the issue of weight came up and she mentioned that their office participates in MediFast and I looked straight at her and told her that I did not believe that Medifast was a good weight loss solution and she proceeded to defend it. I really didn't appreciate that because instead of a meal replacement plan, the first thing that any good doctor's office should be offering is a referral to a good nutritionist and exercise. That right there was unfortunate at best, and the fact that the MA was defensive about this, and it was me who backed up and provided the professionalism with a spoonful of possible acceptance so we could move on was ridiculous. The MA and I proceeded to the exam room where she gave me a paper explaining their Patient Fusion software. Then, oddly, she provided me with a 2 page survey for a third party testing company. Two third party sells and I haven't seen the doctor yet? This wasn't going well at all. After that I sat there for a good 45+ minutes waiting for Dr. King to come in. I heard a lot of walking back and forth, construction work, and loud-ish music coming from one of the offices. I'm sitting there looking around the patient room, and I'm noticing dirt on the floor, as well as a cotton swab...not as clean as I would expect for a doctor's office. And then I hear, "Well how long has she been in there?" "Well what happened?" etc. etc. And for sure, I thought the doctor would be right in, but I waited another like... 10 minutes after that. Finally, Dr. King came in and was very apologetic, but also fairly frazzled and explained that her staff had inserted other patients in to the schedule and one of them had arrived at a different time. I said I was fine, and really it was "ok" because I didn't really have anywhere else to be but I did wait a long time. Really, I was trying to un-frazzle her so that she could focus on me. It appears that the front office had really obliterated everything into a giant cluster-f*ck...and she mentioned that today was going much better than yesterday....Yikes?! Anyways, I gave her a little bit of background on my issue and also talked to her about a little background on me including some recent stress this year with my husband going through cancer treatment. She looked at the issue I had brought to her, and made somewhat of a diagnosis and did offer some options which was great... however. The one alarming thing that she said to me was, "Well, last time I saw this I thought it was what I'm telling you it is...but it turned out to be cancer...so..." WTF. You don't say that to a cancer patient's wife. You don't. End Of Story. She referred me out to a specialist that....I guess performs other types of work but does what I need "on the side". BS... I went and found a specialist and made a self referral appointment, (yay my insurance). I'm really disappointed with how the whole appointment went, and honestly pretty shaken by the whole cancer comment. Augh. All things aside, I think Dr. King is a really nice lady, don't get me wrong. Everything that could have seemingly gone wrong in my appointment did... but I think that in order to appropriately focus on her patients she needs a much better office staff. The scheduling is obviously not going well, it sounds as if, from the Yelp reviews that billing is off, and honestly the MA seemed pretty inexperienced and green. So, for me, I most likely will not go back to Dr. King but I most urgently suggest that she take a look into revising some issues with her business. I think it would make a world of difference for her and she could become a great local doctor. read more

Took my daughter in for a corn removal. The entire experience was blah, find someone else to call your primary doctor. The entry to the building was filthy dirty, which seems odd as you enter a physician's office. The service was unattentive at the front desk still pleasant. Being a new patient kinda of expected a "hey welcome" Glad you are here. Never met Dr. King, met the nurse practitioner who was very clinical. Which is fine but we were told that they did not have liquid nitrogen to freeze off what she believed was a wart and not a corn. I found this to be odd. You may not get the news you want to hear, but you can certainly rest assured that you're getting it from the best doc around. I've gone to Dr. King for many, many years. Not only is she very knowledgeable, she's not afraid to look something up, check something out on her computer, and follow up with you, too. My Mom lives out of state and had a serious problem that her docs couldn't seem to resolve. I brought her here and took her to Dr. King - who figured out the problem and got her healed in two months.. something her other docs couldn't do in over 8 months! Perhaps one of the most important assets a doctor can provide is having a great reputation and knowing who to send you to - and each specialist Dr. King has sent me to has been terrific. Her entire staff is friendly and they'll work you in if you need to be seen. Consequently, sometimes you have to wait a bit. But that's only sometimes. And She's worth the wait. read more

Dr. King has been my primary care doctor for 12 years. She and my two other physicians coordinate my care. Dr. King always takes the time to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. She even helped me resolve a billing dispute between CPL and my insurance. I find her staff to be professional and courteous. Dr. King is caring, knowledgeable and professional. Dr. King has been my primary dr. for over 4 years and I highly recommend her and her staff. I went through several other providers before finding Dr. King and I have been happy ever since. Nurse practitioner Julie Elam came on board last year and she is clearly in tune with Dr. King's philosophy when it comes to patient care. Both have taken the time to get to know me, are very patient, kind, knowledgeable and listen to, and address, any questions or concerns I may have. Dr. King, Julie and the rest of her staff have always been very caring and professional. Michelle at the front office is great, always friendly and somehow manages to fit me in for those unavoidable last-minute problems that crop up during our Texas year-round allergy season. I have had numerous office visits through the years, and I have never had any problems with long wait times, billing issues, rude staff, nor have I ever had anyone push any products or programs as a previous reviewer mentioned. On a side note: It is a bit mind boggling that a novel-length review was gleaned over the course of one (1) whole visit. I thought I was overly sensitive... But anyhoo - their website is great and offers online appts as well as a wealth of great information. There are plenty of competent medical providers around, but those that also possess and convey genuine caring and compassionate people skills are few. Dr. King and everyone else in the office was wonderful. The receptionist though, Michelle, was rude and didn't seem to care that I was a new patient. She left me at the window for 20 minutes waiting to give her my information. I looked in the window to see her back towards me and she was on the phone playing Solitaire. Ugh, but whatever -- I finally got in to see Dr. King and she was wonderful. When I paid, I gave Michelle a check and within 5 minutes of leaving the office my phone started ringing. I didn't answer it because I was driving, but during the half hour it took me to get home, Michelle had called my phone 11 TIMES and my husband's phone 6 TIMES-- leaving messages threatening to report me to the police if i didn't call her back and give another payment. The check was valid, but because I had just moved here from Maine, it was an out-of-state check and she said she would not accept it. She also said I'd better call her back before she "sent the check to the DA", etc. I was absolutely unnerved by the psychotic behavior! Especially since I had liked Dr. King and everyone else in the office so much. Not only is Michelle beyond rude and aggressive, but she has serious mental problems. Because of the experience with her I would never go back to that clinic, which is sad because I really liked Dr. King and had hoped she could be our new family doctor. read more

Dr. King has been a joy to visit and is extremely competent in her practice of medicine and trust worthy . Even tough the drive is lengthy because I do not live in that area of town it is always worth my peace of mind to make the drive for such a wonderful Dr. . Her staff is friendly and always willing to help me with any special last second appointments I may need. Highly recommend Dr. Susan King for your general medical needs. read more
