The one only OBGYN i have been seeing for the last 20 years! Simply the best doctor! In every respect! Great staff! Kathy, Liz, Pilar! They have been there all these years. I am a little over 2 months postpartum and all I can say is that I am in awe of Dr. Crane ! He is so knowledgeable and experienced, you just know you are in good hands. This was so calming for me as I was incredibly nervous about every aspect of my pregnancy. He has a wonderful bedside manner because he truly is an amazing human being who loves delivering babies and it shows :) If you are lucky enough to have him as your doctor, you will see the love he has for what he does and the care he takes with others. My baby was breach and I had not planned a C section but I am so glad Dr. Crane was my doctor. He showed up early and made me feel so calm before and while I was in surgery. Post surgery he visited me every day in the hospital, checking on me and my very small incision that was placed perfectly below my bikini line. Even after I was discharged he called me to check on me several times. Dr. Crane is also a very skilled surgeon. My fiancé caught a glimpse of the procedure when he went over to watch the birth and was amazed at how Dr. Crane performed the procedure. I had very little pain after my C section, recovery was not more than a week and not bad at all. I am certain this is because of the way Dr. Crane skilfully performed my caesarian section. This man really is a national treasure just as Sam S stated in her review. I wish all doctors gave the attention and care to their patients that Dr. Crane does. I actually feel so grateful that I could be so fortunate to have this man be my doctor. In addition, his staff is great Kathy was always there to help me with questions I had, I had a ton of questions as this was my first baby and she also was so kind and made sure I was taken care of. She also did all the paper work for me for the hospital for my delivery. When you are close to giving birth the last thing you want to do is paperwork and intake forms (Thank you Kathy!) read more

Dr. Crane has been my ob-gyn for almost 30 years. And while I delivered my daughter at home 18 year ago with a midwife, he served as my backup doctor and did virtually all of my prenatal care. I'm grateful he was so supportive of home birth, and had such great trust in the midwife, Leslie Stewart. As a gynecologist, he's been there as I transitioned from my fertile twenties, to hormonal motherhood, to peri-menopause, and now in menopause. He saved me from taking unnecessary anti-depressants when all I really needed was a bit of estrogen when my hormones began to drop in my 40s. He's been sensitive and caring and has engaged me in dialogue about every women's health issue that has mattered to me. He's guided me with regard to bio-identical hormones and proven to be up to date on the latest studies regarding the effects of hormone therapy and varying risks of cancer. He's as caring as they come. He's a handsome devil and has a bit of a mad scientist about him in his appearance and demeanor, but I love that about him. He often runs late because he spends so much time with each patient, and well, because he's always on call to deliver. Once I decided he was worth waiting for, I was all in. He's been my doctor for life, and I'm deeply grateful for him. I'll be sad if and when he retires. Thank you Dr. Crane for everything. read more

I recently delivered my baby with Dr. Crane and words cannot describe how amazing this Dr is. We had some major complications with the delivery towards the end and Dr. Crane handled it perfectly, without getting into much detail I def feel if I had had any other Dr it would have resulted in a cesection or possibly worse, brain damage on my child. Luckily we were able to avoid all of that. On another note, his staff is friendly, Dr. Crane's care for women and babies is superb and he always takes the time to talk to you after every check up and I never felt rushed. Highly recommend! He is the best of the best. read more

We agree with the first post. They do not submit timely or properly to insurance. So if you expect to collect in 6 to 8 weeks don't expect anything for months of reminding them to submit properly. Most obstetricians do not ask for payment up front for a delivery, especially in the first poster's case where they lost their infant. A little kindness goes a long way. Just b/c he delivers kardashian babies doesn't make him a Dr to the stars or great for any other normal woman. Highly disappointed with the attitudes and the office staff. Dr. is fair. Much better out there, believe me. read more

Being an OB/GYN must be one of the most challenging medical professions on Earth. I really admire doctors who enter this profession and sacrifice their personal life for the often unpredictability of caring for a pregnant woman as she approaches labor. My personal experience with Dr. Crane is as a birth doula. I have also had a few gilrfriends that delivered their babies with him and LOVED him. I am grateful that he also supports women who request a VBAC. There are not too many doctors who support Vaginal Birth After Cesarean and as the ICAN West LA Chapter Co-leader, I keep a close watch on this list of doctors and miwives and hospital that are supportive. When I have supported clients through birth, I noticed his genuine care and love for these families. I once heard my client call him "dreamy" and when he walks into the room (with his soft cashmere sweater) one does want to just go give him a great big hug! You know what I mean? Like that totally soft, Mr. Rogers feeling when I see him (but more handsome of course). I am being silly. But seriously, my point is that I LOVE this doctor and the way he treats women in pregnancy and labor. His bed side manner is gentle and caring. I definitely recommend Dr. Crane to mamas who will birth at Cedars Sinai. His partner, Dr. Chin, is pretty awesome too. So you can't lose! Dr. Crane is the BEST DOCTOR i've ever been to. Seriously! After I had my baby I was sad I wouldn't see him more than my annual checkup. He is utterly caring. After he did my Amnio he called me the next day to see how I was feeling. In fact if I called him with something wrong he would generally call me again to check in on me. He was so supportive of me having the type of delivery I wanted. When my delivery came, he stayed at the hospital the whole time! I'm talking he hung out and came in often to check on me. Most OB's just pop in for the actual pushing. Not Dr. Crane! He was even there when my epidural was administered. He is so dedicated its just unbelievable. He takes all the time you need. And he loves giving ultrasounds so I got to see my baby every time I went. I'm very sorry for the other poster's loss, but his critique is much more about the office than the medical help. I found his office did take a bit long to send my insurance claim in, but other than that they were very helpful and nice. God bless Dr. Crane, he broke the mold. They seriously don't make them like him anymore! read more

Dr Crane was my OB-GYN when I first came to Los Angeles...I was told by my boyfriend's assistant - Rick Nelson's cousin..( I was in LA you know :) that he was very good looking but I was a cool New York sophisticate and shrugged it off..until I walked into the office and saw him.. I ran out of the office visibly shaken.. saying in a raised tone " no way - he is much too good looking".... the office staff laughed.. most likely they were used to it.. well I got used to it too .. he was the kindest, best gyn I had ever known ( only met one since who olds a candle to him ..Dr Bliss here where I live) .. Dr Crane was my doctor for years and saved my young friend's life who had ovarian cancer.. and did it such a way that she was spared a lot of misery after the surgery.. I can't say enough good about this man.. the man and the doctor.. I miss him very much but I moved and was off and on with insurance and stayed with docs on the westside ..... I think of him from time to time.. anyone here saying bad things about him.. I can't imagine you are talking about the person I knew.. because they don't make them better than him....the best and most caring and I bet still the best looking.... and kindest.. read more

I have known Dr. Paul Crane for many years, attended births with him as a doula, sent many Moms to him for OB care and he has always been supportive of my HypnoBirthing parents. He has always been there for my many clients with 100% support. Recently I went through a challenging health situation and Dr. Crane came through for me. It's rare to have a doctor be so generous with his time and wisdom, especially after hours. I am so grateful that our community has such a great man who is so passionate and dedicated to the well being of others. Thank you, Paul Crane, MD! read more

SUCH a great doctor, and such a great team/staff. I was recommended to visit Dr Crane from another doctor, who I also respect and trust, as my husband and I were trying to get pregnant, and have. Since day one, he's always had great bedside manner, very thorough, supportive, and informative. Yes, he's busy, but in a GOOD WAY. But he's not unreachable, which is what counts. If you've experienced healthcare from other places, you'd know that HE and his staff are awesome. They know their patients, and are very attentive. I wasn't a huge fan of the other group of OBGYNs from various clinics, private practices and hospitals, so yes, I did interview many of the best in town. To us, he's definitely worth every hard earned penny we make. We support good healthcare, because it is rare to find good doctors who are in line with what your own personal health / life goals are. He definitely cares about his patients, he has his own big family, and knows what he is talking about. He's great in that he doesn't make a big deal of things that aren't issues, and doesn't downplay things that are. I'd definitely trust him over any other OBGYN and/or midwife/doula. He's the perfect in between, which is very important to me and MY family. If you are considering visiting his practice, he's a good one. As with anything serious, such as your health and wellbeing, do your homework, do your research and yes, definitely see as many people until you find the right one, BUT I will say, Dr Crane is a good someone you consider, if he falls in line with what it is you're trying to achieve and how you're trying to achieve it. Everyone will have their own personal experience, and WE have always had it great with him. Dr Crane is a great doctor to have, and I'm so happy we were able to add him to our family list of doctors. read more

I have withheld for the past 15 months from writing this review. I basically resisted to share my experience because I do not want to bring anything negative to the table for Paul Crane. He is a fine doctor. As good as any in retrospect. I went to him because I was pregnant with my first baby who I had alone through IUI and a donor due to not having met the one and really having a strong desire to be a mother. I dont have much family or support so I thought to invest in this so I can have more care and support rather than using my ppo insurance. I went to him in the 4th month of my pregnancy when I decided to invest in theoretically higher care. Initially one is so excited and hopeful you don't see or want to see the horrific, rude, almost abusing so called staff he has. You pay and pay and ignore their disgusting treatment. He has his wife running his office who apparently knows nothing about medicine, medical etiquette, patient care. She is beyond vulgar and greedy. She called me not identifying herself in my 7th month of pregnancy when I had developed preeclampsia from stress and after I said hello she said "Dr crane will not see you anymore you need to find someone else" I was at work I started trembling inside and outside from fear I said why she said you haven't paid the third payment I said I just wrote you a check the last time I was there I've paid more than half of all the fee She said oh is this ------the other patients full name? I said no this is not her this is me. No apology she said I have the wrong person ok good bye. Aside from that the other lady who is petrified of the wife basically just speaks to patients again for money as if it's a car shop or something nothing else seems to matter. In regards to terminating care on that other poor patient without appropriate referral and continuity of care that's malpractice and can be reported to the medical board. As far as the rest in my 24th week he scared me saying the baby hasn't turned (now I know that was way too early) but I had such a fear of not having a natural birth which is one of the reasons I went to him and paid $12,000, hearing that caused me great stress and I believe triggered my elevated blood pressure. When time came he did no attempt to do My version instead he called someone else to do it who did not attempt either as the whole situation had me so stressed my pressure was increasing. He admitted to me that although research shows breech deliveries are safe as depicted in the documentary heads up he forgot how to do them (Dr Wu in Glendale does them regularly I later learned and takes insurance) and I have to have a c section. But what really hurt after investing over $10,000 in a more holistic doctor supposedly is he refused to do what is almost routine at St. John's hospital which I shared videos of with him and sent him information on which is a gentle C section where the curtain is dropped half way mom can see hold the baby cord is allowed to pulse and baby is removed slowly. He said he can't do that because he has to do whatever cedars does and it's too hard to get them to get currant. I ended up with a c section without any address or implementation of the new advances made in C sections and maternal fetal care that I brought to his attention as routine at St. John's, he proceeded without any of my wishes heard. What was troublesome is they were routine up the street for free. I thought because he is supposed to be more holistic etc etc he would implement that but unfortunately the c section and care is no different than any other standard doctor except less patient care. Lastly he DID NOT VISIT ME IN THE HOSPITAL which was unbelievable and later when I got the hospital records they typed it up as if a resident or another doctor saw me, did an exam on me but they never did. So that part is fraud. I never reported him because I don't want any harm or ill will for him. He is old and will retire soon and maybe that's why they are so negligent in the office him not addressing his wife teaching her this is not a used car lot where you hunt after money This is a surgeons office where care is provided to pregnant women and their unborn children and train her accordingly. So I would not recommend this office at all. You will get Nothing here that you would not get with another physician in fact bottom line you will probably have way better care ultimately with another physician and office. Dr Crane is old so he does have experience as any old doctor has and he is charismatic but that does not make up for the above. read more

Dr Crane was not my OB but I had the privilege to observe his professionalism, care and GREAT bedside manner as he delivered my friends baby girl today. He's been delivering babies for 25 years and its very obvious he knows what he's doing and truly enjoys It. I didn't understand something the anesthesiologist has said so I asked Dr Crane to clarify. He took the time to make sure my question and any of my friends questions were answered. He didn't just take care of my friend, he made sure the whole "birthing support team" knew exactly what was happening. Overall complete success. Thank you Doctor Crane. read more

Not only is Paul Crane the best in the business, he is also the kindest. He loves his job, he cares about his patients, he is learned, wise and he is simply a good soul. There could be no doctor who is more compassionate and thoughtful than he is. I have had multiple children with Dr. Crane as my OBGYN. He works with midwives because he isn't about ego or billing. He works on high-risk pregnancies, because he is willing to have his "numbers" suffer in order to help all women who need him. He works with older women and helps with hormone issues because he cares about his patients and their whole life journey. He keeps very up to date on all the scientific research pertaining to women's health so that not only is he a wonderful guide through pregnancy he is also a tremendous help for a woman as she ages and faces a new slew of issues and questions. His office staff is friendly and personable. I have never had any issues with billing or insurance. That being said, I pay most things out of pocket and get them reimbursed. But I have never ever had billing issues and love the women in his office. I feel like they know me and care. For me, it is a no-brainer and absolutely worth it. For complicated pregnancies he is one of the only doctors who is relaxed, confident and willing to listen to a mother's needs and wishes. I have had more than one complicated pregnancy with him and he even helped me with a twin birth that most would have forced to be a caesarian. When he delivered my babies the med students crowded around him listening and learning - because he is a master. He has done surgical procedures for me as well dealing with ovarian cysts. He has taken me through loss and through joyful miracles. Every yelp reviewer is entitled to give a review based on their experience, but to give a gentle, wonderful man who has dedicated his life to helping his patients, a true master doctor, a 1 star rating SIMPLY because of some insurance issues (and without any review of his abilities as a physician) strikes me as vindictive, irresponsible and unpardonable. read more

I recently saw this doctor featured on the kardashian show (seemed tacky) and was reminded of my experience late in 1970 with Dr. Paul Crane. Amazing! Dr. Crane has a great reputation for a reason. He is an old school doctor. The way doctors should be. Although we had a miscarriage, Dr. Crane was the best. He shared our joy when we became pregnant and shared our grief at the point of a miscarriage. he explained everything in great detail. And although his phone was ringing off the hook (I can see why), he focused only on us. He will be our doctor when we get pregnant again. A heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Paul Crane. read more

Dr. Crane delivered both my sons and saw me through a miscarriage. He is smart, compassionate, experienced and well respected. He follows up after a difficult exam with a personal phone call. He is considered among the best of the best in Los Angeles for a reason. Conscientious, sincere, kind and knowledgeable. Can I just say to the insurance-issues naysayers: my experiences over many years prove that 99% of the time it is the INSURANCE COMPANIES who, uh gee, didn't get that paperwork. Um, can't process the whole cause this bit is incorrect. Request: can you submit again? and again? It is their COMMON PRACTICE to require multiple submissions, drag their feet before paying, nitpick and lose things. This is the bane of every doctor's office, and why doctors have been forced to require getting paid upfront. (On the Westside of Los Angeles, every doctor my family goes to from orthopedists to internists to OBGYNs, they ALL require in-office payment.) My educated guess is that it is your insurance company who you should be giving low stars to ... NOT Dr. Crane. read more

Reading through all the glowing reviews of Dr. Crane make mine that much harder to compose. Unlike most of you we did not have a good experience, at all. In fact, we found him to be rushed, cold, and flippant. He came highly recommended when my husband and I became serious about getting pregnant. We went in for the initial exams to determine our fertility. Dr. Crane told us to return on the 14th day after my period so he could run some more levels. My husband and I were away on a trip that week-end and returned to Los Angeles on day 15. During that visit Dr. Crane told us that we either 'missed that window of opportunity' or I was already pregnant. Turned out, I had gotten pregnant the week-end we were out of town. I returned for a Sonogram and everything looked good, the fetus was growing and had a strong heart beat. It was during that visit the Dr. Crane prescribed a dose of Prometrium. I thought it was strange to treat a hormone imbalance with just 'one' dose but didn't give it further thought. After all, we had placed our complete trust in him. That night, after taking the single dose the room began to spin. I remember telling my husband that I didn't know what was happening... my face was red and I was crying hysterically. I remember waking the next morning and no longer felt 'pregnant'. Unfortunately, my body did not spontaneously abort and I was carrying around a dead fetus. When we arrived back at Dr. Crane's office he was rushed and abrupt. He inserted the Sonogram wand without much discussion... I remember the visit feeling cold and callous. He simply said, "well, we'll just have to try again", removed his lab coat and walked out of the room. I was shocked, stunned, and saddened. We did not go back to him after that. I ended up going to an All-Women's medical clinic to have a D&C and follow up care. I'm sorry. But that was our experience. That was 'my' experience. So, a good rating is not one I can give. read more

Dr. Crane facilitated the Pre and Post care and the birth of both of my sons and I could have not asked for a better doctor anywhere. He really takes his time and is completely present. For me it doesn't get any better than Dr. Crane. A few things- Parking is pricey, but then again it is Beverly Hills. You can park right underneath the medical complex but it is cash only. So my husband and I parked in a different lot nearby and because of the nature of our appointment we were charged the maximum rate at $16 for 2 1/2hrs of parking. Also Dr. Crane doesn't take any insurance so you will need to pay up front services. So back to the good stuff. It was our first appointment (I was 7 weeks pregnant) where my husband and I got to meet with Dr. Crane and he got our history and told us about himself. He's so kind and knowledgeable. I was hoping for a VBAC since we had an emergency c-section with our first baby at a different hospital. Dr. Crane was incredibly supportive of our desire for a VBAC, which is hard to find these days. After we got done with the consultation we went to a different room to have an ultrasound done, which Dr. Crane does himself. I am a nurse so as soon as we began I knew what I was seeing on the ultrasound screen wasn't right. In the kindest and most humble way he told us that this was called a blighted ovum. Although I thought I was almost 8 weeks pregnant going by my last menstrual cycle what we were seeing was what you would see at week 3. I had miscarried with our very first baby and then got pregnant with our son 6 weeks later. I really didn't want to have to go through another traumatic miscarriage at home so I asked him if I could have a D and C. He was so kind and made time for me right then and he did the procedure in 10 minutes right there in his office. Because I was only 3 weeks along when I miscarried it was not very invasive at all. After it was done and I went home, he called about 2 hours later from his office phone to check on me. He called me (I was asleep at the time) and then he reached out to my husband too. The last thing he said to me on the phone was "We'll see you soon and it will be a happy day." After having been through a miscarriage, a healthy pregnancy and now a blighted ovum it was nice to have a doctor who cared enough to take care of everything that same day AND be so kind and encouraging in the process. We cannot wait to get pregnant again and have Dr. Crane be our doctor. read more

Dr. Crane's office has been going through changes and as a result we have been treated pretty badly. We gave birth in January to our baby girl who did not survive due to an incurable condition. We were told that we had to pay for the services up front (which we did) and that they would quickly submit our claim to insurance after the birth of the baby. They did not. When asked about the situation, they said they had submitted the claim but the insurance had no record. They submitted again, but this time with the wrong claim. When we talked to them again, they were incredibly unclear as to what should have been submitted. They finally submitted the corrected bill but they filled in most areas incorrectly - areas that seem to be obvious. As a result, insurance has returned the claim and we are now five months out from the loss of our child and no reimbursement. We're not sure if they are stalling on purpose or just plain incompetent, but either way it's been a painful process. read more

Dr. Crane is one of a few OB's who truly believes in and supports normal physiological birth. He is also warm, sincere and really cares about his patients. He went above and beyond for me several times throughout my pregnancy. Even though he is flexible and accommodates birth preferences at the hospital, I wasn't super comfortable birthing there and I didn't want to birth at home. Dr. Crane asked me where I would feel most comfortable giving birth and when I replied "birth center," he offered to catch my baby at Simona Istrate's Natural Birth Center. This had not been done before but as a doula in the birth community I was able to help make it happen. Simona graciously agreed to work with Dr. Crane and welcomed us with open arms. This was my second baby and labor was fast and furious. We made a quick stop to Dr. Crane's office for a previously agreed upon exam and then we all headed to the birth center. By the time we arrived I was working through some pretty intense contractions. My doula and Simona's birth team anticipated my arrival and had the bathtub filled up waiting for me to immerse myself in which was a big preference for me. Shortly after I birthed my big beautiful baby boy. It was magical! Being in a calm, peaceful, nurturing environment was exactly what I wanted. I am grateful that I was able to give birth where and how I felt safest and most comfortable. We were also thankful that Dr. Crane was able to capture some beautiful pictures after the birth. We love Dr. Crane and so do his patients and the rest of the birth community! read more

Dr. Paul Crane has been my gynecologist for 8 years. I moved to LA from the south, Dr Crane was recommended to me 8 years ago, during this time I moved to Florida for a year, however I flew back to LA just to continue having Dr. Crane as my doctor. I have recently moved to northern CA, but will continue to come to LA for my annual exams. He is so caring and personable, you will think you are his only patient. He calls you himself with tests results, even on a Sunday. He did not deliver my only child, but he knows enough about him, that I felt like he did. He treats everyone so kind and he knows when you are uncomfortable with the exam so he tries to distract you with conversation about you so you are not thinking about the exam. You do have to submit your own insurance, but that would not make me change from Dr. Crane, he simply is the best. His office staff is always there to help you too. Very sincere, knowledgeable, kind and extremely handsome...you have to admit, that does help! read more
