I was relieved to find Dr. Daniel Niku on Zocdoc because I was dealing with recurring UTIs, was extremely uncomfortable, and could not get in to see my regular OB-GYN. Unfortunately, the experience ended up being one of the worst medical experiences I have had. The office visit itself felt uncomfortable and strange, and I did not feel listened to regarding the reason I came in. I provided a urine sample immediately upon arrival because the UTI symptoms were the entire reason for my appointment. After the visit, no one ever called me with my results. I eventually found my Pap results on the patient portal myself, but there was no urine culture posted. I spent nearly two weeks repeatedly calling the office trying to get answers and was continually told that a nurse would call me back. No one ever did. Finally, after more than five calls, I reached a nurse directly. She told me there was no record of a urine culture. I explained multiple times that I had provided a urine sample at the beginning of my appointment, but instead of investigating what happened, apologizing, or taking responsibility, she simply kept repeating that she did not see a urine culture in my chart. At that point, the only conclusion I could reach was that my urine sample had been lost. No one from the office ever contacted me to explain what happened, acknowledge the mistake, or apologize. I was the one who had to spend two weeks chasing down answers while dealing with a recurring medical issue. The office ultimately refunded the full $75 I paid for the visit ($40 administrative fee and my $35 copay), which I appreciate. However, a refund does not make up for such a poor experience. It certainly does not make up for losing the very sample that was collected for the primary reason I sought care, failing to notify me, failing to return my calls, and leaving me without answers for nearly two weeks while I was dealing with a recurring medical issue. What makes this experience even more concerning is that I have since returned to my regular OB-GYN and learned that some of the information I was given during my appointment was incorrect. The difference between the two experiences was night and day. My regular physician listened carefully, addressed my concerns, answered my questions accurately, and provided the level of care I should have received in the first place. It was a stark reminder of how important it is to have a knowledgeable physician who actually listens to their patients. After this happened, I read through Yelp reviews and was dismayed to find other patients describing similar issues with missing or lost urine samples. I genuinely wish I had read those reviews before making an appointment. Had I done so, I would have chosen a different provider. I went to this office because I needed urgent help and could not get in to see my regular doctor. Instead, I left feeling ignored, dismissed, and frustrated. Between the lost urine sample, the lack of follow-up, the repeated unreturned calls, the undisclosed administrative fee, and the inaccurate information I later discovered I had been given, I cannot recommend this practice. read more

I never would've thought I'd have a male gynecologist - nor that he'd receive my first five star review for a gynecologist. But Dr Niku is great. I think my favorite thing is feeling trusted. It's the first gyno where I don't feel like a burden when I request a refill or rx or have to get in quickly to deal with an issue. Upon reflection's I'm a bit surprised that with my female gynecologists in the past, I always felt like I had to jump through hoops to get support for the issues that commonly arise for women's reproductive health. As women, I'd think we'd understand the urgency and discomfort. But Dr Niku is the one who seems to get it. While the test results here are fairly slow, I'm not left to just deal with things on my own while I wait. There's always something to help, and he knows options that are safe and helpful that we can review and try. My medical issues have always been a little complex, so it's important to have someone who tries to think about all the options and reviews them with me. Dr Niku is empathetic and he's also smart, but I don't sense a ton of ego. He's easy to trust and good at explaining in ways that make sense to those of us without an MD. read more

The best decision I ever made was to go to Dr. Daniel Niku for my Ob checks and follow ups. I had a terrible experience in my previous provider which I will not be discussing here. It pushed me to do doctor research and find the best one to move to. I am grateful to have found Dr. Niku because he truly knows his expertise and he will explain everything to you. He is very caring and light to be with in my visits. He LISTENS and reassure you as a patient. I am confident in this doctor in what he does. Dr. Niku is incredible but wow, the office staff could not be more rude if they tried. Maybe they should use the extra admin fee that they charge towards training in customer service. There is one in particular that is a nightmare. I hang up anytime she answers. She is rude and very lazy. It is too bad because Dr. Niku is wonderful. This doctor does not keep promises, his staff also do not follow up or call you back as promised. The doctor lost my urine sample and wanted me to drive one hour back to his office to give it again, did nothing for me, promised he wouldn't charge me and wouldn't put in claim to get paid through my insurance, all lies. This happened on June 1st, 22. It's now Jan 11th and I'm still getting a bill for a $15 co-pay, and my insurance company paid him, for doing nothing. No exam, nothing. I'm so sick of wasting my time calling his office and the insurance company, do not waste your time. No ownership taken at all. No promises kept. Zero follow up. read more

After getting seemingly 1000 texts to be sure I was coming to the appointment, guess who did not show up for the appointment? The doctor himself. No call, nothing. Only met by a very unfriendly receptionist who offered nothing to the situation. Disappointing. One suggestion for the office: don't text me a million times making sure I will be there when the doctor isn't even going to show face. If I could give the whole office zero stars I would. I only met him once, but it's thanks to him, I could have my dream homebirth with peace of mine. Dr Niku is ine of the only 3 doctors in LA who back up midwifery care with actions. After having a horrible first delivery experience with my first born at Kaiser, I wanted a more natural approach. I found Los Angeles midwives, a group of 3 midwives with hospital privileges at Cedars thanks to drNiku and other two doctors. I met him at week 27, he told me I was a good candidate for homebirth or hospital birth with the midwives, and if any complications arised, , he would be my backup doc at Cedars. That was the only tine I saw him because I ended up having a beautiful homebirth that I might not have had if I didn't have the peace of mind of the hospital setting WITH my midwives and a doctor. He cares so much about his patients and takes the time to answer your questions and concerns. TL;DR: Dr. Niku is amazing. He engages in shared decision making with his patients and is accessible whenever you need him. He treats you like a person and not just a patient. He genuinely cares about you and advocates for what you want. He's open to trying things differently and also acknowledges that he doesn't know everything and will seek counsel from his peers in the practice to make sure his patients get the absolute best care and can make the most informed decisions (so you get a built-in second opinion!). He is amazeballs and you will be very very very blessed to have him as your OB! Long review, if you're interested: I don't even know where to start. I was planning to have my baby at a birth center. I was going to have a water birth, all natural, no epidural, blah blah. Then I was hit with a gestational diabetes diagnosis and had to use insulin at night, so I risked out. I was frantic, trying to find a doctor who wouldn't completely bulldoze me with their techno-medical approach to birth. I found Dr. Niku through the recommendation of a midwife I called randomly, desperate to find a doctor so late in my pregnancy (I was about 30 weeks preggo). I had actually interviewed a few other doctors and felt a little hopeless. And then we met Dr. Niku. I remember the first time we saw him - we were in the waiting room, and he came into the waiting room wearing black scrubs and called out my name. He took us to his office, asked us to sit down, leaned back in his chair and basically just asked me to tell him about myself. I had a folder with a long list of questions and requests - never ONCE did he make me feel neurotic or ridiculous, even though many doctors would have rolled their eyes at my requests (delayed cord clamping, asking for no residents/students in the delivery room, etc.). He even told me that he might have to step out to help another patient if I had a lot of questions but he would come back if I had the time to wait for him to make sure I had all my concerns addressed. That was the first time my partner and I met him, and every encounter after that just reaffirmed our appreciation for having found him as our OB once I was diagnosed with GDM. He made me feel like a PERSON and not just a patient. He remembered small details I told him and picked up on both my and my partner's personality quirks. When my partner asked him about the NST (I had to go in twice a week for them), Dr. Niku actually took the time to explain to him how to read the NST results. My delivery was pretty traumatic. Despite wanting a natural birth, I got an epidural because the induction was so intense. It broke my heart, but my baby was in distress, I thought I was going to pass out, and I hadn't slept in over 24 hours. I used the epidural as a tool to rest but I didn't want it for very long. After a couple of hours, I was upset because I had asked the midwife to turn off my epidural and she had refused. I felt overwhelmed and violated because twice now, my requests had been ignored (slowing down the Pitocin and turning off my epidural). But Niku is such a freaking advocate that he looked at me and was like "you want to turn your epidural? Okay, let's turn it off. This is your call, your experience, we're doing it." And he turned it off! It wasn't long before I could move freely again and could feel my contractions and could tell the nurse I felt ready to start pushing. I pushed for almost 3 hours but honestly, it was the best part of my birthing experience. Dr. Niku, my doula, our AMAZING labor nurse Karen, my partner and I all chit chatted between pushes. I was screaming like an injured hyena by the end of it but I ultimately got the birth experience I wanted: no epidural, vaginal, and the ability to change positions to find what worked for me best. I was able to push on my own accord and know exactly when to push and where to put my focus, because Dr. Niku supported me in turning off the epidural. But what sealed the deal with how I feel about the doc is how amazing he was after my delivery. I have had one issue after another (nothing to do with Dr. Niku's care and everything to do with my own personal situation not being a good environment for postpartum healing) and he has called me and checked on me constantly. He'll see me last minute and call to follow up on things. He has made me feel so comfortable and taken care of. And he's not afraid to seek the counsel of doctors in the practice to make sure he's providing me with the most thorough information and insight. I'm almost 5 weeks post partum and have a few more weeks of healing ahead of me. It's been a really hard road but I have felt like I can handle it and get through it because Dr. Niku is my care provider. 100% recommend him, 1,000 times over :) I will genuinely miss my interactions with him and hope I can find a PCP who makes me feel so seen and heard! read more

I had to take my mom to a Farsi speaking doctor whom she was able to communicate and be understood. Dr. Niku was referred to us by our internist and it turned out to be the best choice . The staff are so friendly and greeted us with such kindness in a truly welcoming manner. We were seen after only a few minutes wait unlike other doctor offices. Dr Niku was the most attentive, kind, compassionate and knowledgeable doctor with excellent bed side manners. After being there only for a few minutes, It felt as if we have known him for years. He listened to our concerns patiently and explained his thoughts with diagrams making sure we understand and are clear about his observations. My mom fell in love with his kindness and pleasant demeanor and can't express how much it meant to us. Dr. Niku ended up delivering my baby on a whim due to my doctor going out on leave last minute during my pregnancy. I was very nervous due to not having had the chance to meet him prior to my delivery date however he did such an amazing job I could not recommend him more to anyone looking for a great obgyn. Even though I had previous issues from my first birth he quickly found ways to avoid running into those pitfalls again and worked with me on a birthing plan that suited everything I was looking for. First of all, the front desk is professional but incredibly warm. The nurses feel strong, compassionate, and really listen. After seeing many doctors for an emotionally and physically challenging issue, Dr. Niku was the first doctor who really heard what I had to say, cared about me as a human being and treated me like an equal partner in the process to find a solution. His 'bedside manner' is incredibly unique for a doctor. It feels like he's a completely embodied human who truly wants what's best for his patients and I found comfort in his wealth of knowledge without being bulldozed by it. I went in for an appointment with Dr. Niku, was charged one co-pay, and they billed my insurance for two separate visits on the same day, which is not allowed. They have been terrible at communication, and have done next to nothing to resolve this situation, despite my emails and calls. I have an outstanding bill from Quest Diagnostics of $400 as a result of their faulty billing, and they've done nothing to help. Unfriendly and terrible at communication. My partner and I found Dr. Niku through a midwife pretty late in the game. He took great care of her and our baby during delivery. as a man, its been hard to see your woman in pain and to feel helpless during my lady's healing process but I always feel better after she's talked to the doctor. He calls her when she texts him and sees her last minute when she's worried about something. Definitely will be recommending him to my fellow dad-to-bes. I always seek premium service and Dr. Niku has delivered time and time again. He's also very patient with my lady; she asks a lot o questions and I know other doctors sometimes get annoyed but he never ever made her feel like she was asking too many questions. Dr. Niku is a true breath of fresh air . I needed a new obgyn and was recommended to this office . He was kind thoughtful , and made me feel truly cared for as a new patient. He spent time to get to know my history and was both very personable and professional. Dr. Niku is an excellent doctor and provided the best care I could possibly desire. I have an autoimmune condition and a rare genetic disorder and Dr. Niku was able to support me before I got pregnant and throughout pregnancy, delivery and post delivery. He investigated the condition that I have and spoke with all the other medical providers in my team in order to make sure he had all the tools to understand the different aspects of the condition and provide the best care. He always made sure I was treated with respect from the other doctors and medical providers during perinatal visits and at the hospital. He supported my decision of natural childbirth and provided me with detail explanation for each procedure and maneuver. He really listen and takes the time to evaluate pros and cons with the patient and discuss a plan which involves detailed future steps.
