I visited Dr. Katz for the first time after my fiancé told me to get a second opinion from another doctor when I was diagnosed with a 10cm cyst which was attached to my left ovary. My sister in law referred me to him as Dr. Katz delivered her baby and she, as well as other friends of mine, raved about him. I called to make an appointment and although he is a very busy doctor, his staff (especially Veronica and Maggie) heard the concern in my voice and within a day's time, managed to get me in for an appointment for the following week. Dr. Katz came in early on a Friday to make time for me!
Needless to say, Dr. Katz is an extremely knowledgeable doctor. Regardless of all the research I did, when I met him, I just kind of knew he was the one. He checked me, ran tests, explained the procedure and within 19 days, I was on a hospital bed awaiting surgery. He explained that there was a possibility of losing my ovary which really scared me. He told me it was his goal to save it and I trusted him. It's just obvious he knows what he's doing....
Pre Op: First of all, I must say, Cedar Sinai really stepped their game up. Their nurses are top notch and have great bedside manner. They really make you feel like they care about you. Dr. Katz came in to see me before I went under. He talked to me for a bit, introduced himself to my mom and fiancé and told me he's going to take care of me, he knew I was nervous about the possibility of losing my ovary but he reassured me that it was his goal to save it. I was so nervous and my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest but he just has such a calm demeanor and it's truly contagious.
Post Op: From what I understood when I woke up, the surgery took longer than the 45 minutes it was expected to take. It ended up taking about an hour and a half. Turned out that the cyst was bigger than I thought and I didn't just have one, but I had 2 on either side of my ovary. He managed to get it all out AND save the ovary!!! AND, THIS WAS ALL DONE LAPAROSCOPICALLY. After the surgery I rested in recovery for about an hour and a half, the my post op nurse was a doll! She made sure I was feeling okay and even though they were ready to discharge me, I asked to stay a little longer to get some anti nausea meds and rest for a bit longer. She stayed by my side throughout.
Summary: If you're looking for a doctor who makes you feel like you're in great hands, Dr. Bobby Katz is your man! He makes you feel at ease and comfortable and he's truly a master at his craft and I trust him with my life! Hopefully one day he'll deliver my children too!
