Holy Moly. One of the best restaurants I've been to in ages. The service is absolutely incredible here and the food to match. I had fish and chips, the antipasto dish appetizer, and a cannoli for desert. The antipasto dish is the best I have ever had, bar none. Fish and chips were fantastic, really crispy and the fries were as well. The cannoli had some of the best ricotta filling (homemade) that I've had. It is a little pricey, but in my opinion you are getting what you pay for here - excellent service, the friendliest wait staff I have seen in a long time, and excellent food. We're up from Connecticut for one of our daughter's medical visit - - her & our son-in-law live in South Georgia, but are up in the Portsmouth for his job. Probably not because of health concerns. How about Italian? My son-in-law has a co-worker that recommended this place Patty B's. It's got 4.6 stars on Google. Look, we live down the road from New Haven & Federal Hill in Providence; couple hours from both Boston & New York. What do they know about Italian food in Dover, New Hampshire? Furthermore, an Italian Restaurant named Patty B's? Maybe: Tony D's, Frank Pepe's, Consiglio's, Brazi's, and so on. So after a debate - - OK, let's go. Wait, reservations are recommended. Reservations? What is this some stuffy place with tiny portions? We got to the restaurant & parking is pretty full - - but we got a space. The folks seated outside were dressed casually. OK. We were seated promptly after check-in. Oh, it's busy. Hint: don't plan on a quick in & out meal. We ordered calamaris as an appetizers. The calamaris were light & simple. Not the largest portion, BUT super tasty!!! We had hot peppers on the side. On the plate with the calamaris was this great bread - - not in its own basket, but with the calamaris; nice, real nice. Our daughter had broccoli alfredo & she loved it. Portion big enough to take home. It looked good too. Our son-in-law had shrimp scampi. Another big portion. He really enjoyed it with only one issue - - he felt the scampi sauce was a bit watery. Perhaps a little butter would tighten the sauce up a little bit - - still, a winner. My wife had shrimp & pasta in vodka sauce. I tasted a bit of it. I know why she like it - - tasted good and you could taste the shrimp in the sauce. Nice!!! Another big portion. And now for something that I've never had before - - eggplant parmigiana. I'm more chicken parmigiana or alfredo but for health reason I've been trying to avoid a lot of protein, dairy, & sodium. Out it came - - sh!t!!! Oh, no. I was trying to avoid cheese (we were in an Italian place - - good luck with that.). The portion was . . . You guessed it - - large & cheesy. Of the four meals ordered, mine looked the best. Sorry, no pictures. From the first bite . . . Outstanding!!! I'm not the biggest Italian food guy, but GOOD does not describe this dish well enough. Sauce was not bitter; it's why I usually stay away from marinara sauce. Cheese was melted & tasty. Pasta was cooked nicely. Eggplant is eggplant - - You like it or not. And boy, I was happy. (As a side note: I was great the next day, also.) Our only thought is that maybe the meals should have come with a bread basket rather than just one slice of bread. We came here with friends based on their recommendation. We are not from the area so I can't say that this is the best Italian food in the area, though to be fair they had more than Italian food too. I had the "steak bomb" which was a shaved steak sandwich. It was very good, though the meat wasn't sliced very thick and the seasonings reminded me more of an Italian beef sandwich than a Philly sandwich. I upgraded to a small side salad and it was refreshing to see peppers, julienned carrots, and other greens besides only iceberg lettuce. My wife had the house salad and a side meatball. It was a good meatball, edging on great with a nice soft interior and good flavor. (No grandma, your's are still the best!). The dessert of the "Castle Black Forest Cake" however was a big disappointment. It was four layers of dry chocolate cake split by four layers of thick, sweet white frosting. Missing from the portion I shared was any presence of cherries, which really are what make it a black forest cake. Otherwise, it is just a chocolate cake. The shards of chocolate on the edges were impressive but didn't save it. Service was fine, a tad slow but it was a busy night. We were there about 2.5 hours and enjoyed nearly every minute of it. It was a first time experience for one in my party, and just walking from the car in she commented on how wonder it smelled. Tried for the first time at 4:00PM on the 6th of September for our anniversary! I can say that the eggplant parmesan was one of the best I have had. The sauce had great flavor and the linguine was nicely al dente. The portion size was large and the waitress service was exceptional. You could fly past this low-key Italian Restaurant without noticing, but that would be a mistake if you love pasta. On a recommendation from a neighbor, we made the drive from downtown Portsmouth on a Saturday night and immediately noticed the wrap around porch with outdoor seating and a friendly family vibe. The porch was nearly full, but we managed to grab a seat. We ordered the mozzarella sticks and two glasses of water, and chicken parmigiana, and clam linguine with added broccoli, summer squash, and zucchini. The mozzarella sticks were from the daily specials menu. Freshly baked, breaded, cheesy goodness and the marinara dipping sauce was a perfect compliment. They were homemade yet not bland with the perfect amount of spices to give it flavor but not be overpowering. The clam linguine arrived dressed in a light white sauce consisting of butter, garlic, lemon juice. The sauce was plentiful in terms of quantity just the way I like it. The clams were the largest I have ever seen or eaten -- the clam meat unshelled in the pasta. The clams, pasta, sauce, and vegetables all blended perfectly; it was a savory dish. I had plenty of linguine and sauce left over to bring home. The chicken parmigiana was delectable and gratifying. By the end of the meal, we were texting our neighbor and thanking her for the recommendation. Don't let appearances fool you--it may not be as fancy as downtown Portsmouth, but the service and food are fantastic. This place is perfect for families or a casual date night. read more

Based on rousing Yelp reviews, we agreed to try out Patty B's on our way home to Vermont from a stay in Maine. Even with a couple of miscues, it was a fantastic experience. The food was old school classic Italian, the service was outstanding and we left with a ton of leftovers at a reasonable price. All the staff seemed invested in the restaurant, had opinions and recommendations, and pretty clearly felt like they were delivering good food. I loved my "Bob-sagna", with was basically eggplant and chicken parmigiana over house-made fettuccine. She enjoyed the chicken piccata over risotto. We split a garden salad and what I thought was a chunk of blue cheese turned out to be a piece off hard plastic from the kitchen. The waitress and staff were most apologetic, and comped the salad AND two desserts. Having worked in restaurants, things like this happen (ideally, rarely), so I wasn't too troubled by the incident, and they handled it very professionally. Briana and Briana were wonderful to us. Ask for either. Since we sat near the kitchen, we thanked the cooks and told them the food was top notch, and they appreciated the feedback. Overall, a very satisfying experience and we'll surely be back next time we head that way. read more

I've heard so many wonderful things about Patty Bs and met some friends there for lunch today - it was wonderful. Loved the anchovies with the Caesar Salad - so many places don't serve them. The chicken piccata was delicious although I prefer the chicken breaded and fried. The lemony caper sauce was yummy. Sheryl had house salad with carbonara and penne and Rita had Caesar without the anchovies and flat bread pizza with chicken and onion - everyone was happy with their meals. We each had to bring home doggie bags - there was so much food and had no room for the amazing desserts. Sorry I forgot to take a pic of them. Can't wait to go back to Patty Bs on the Dover Point Road for some more yummy Italian food. The atmosphere was really nice too, spacious and comfy. The service was impeccable. Plenty of parking! This place is great. We're from NJ and our son goes to UNH. Our waitress was Brianna and she was just simply awesome. She had the best menu recommendations and simple tips and tricks. Brianna was super personable as well as the rest of the wait staff. They truly operated like a team. We actually met the owner who was holding a customers baby while they ate! Simply a great a place. Lotsa homemade food. I had the homemade fettuccini. Amazing. 5 people at dinner and not a bad meal amongst us. Great place highly recommend. Food was outstanding. As former frequent patrons we were surprised at what became our last meal at Patty B's. From the garlic non-cheese bread, the no caesar dressing caesar salad to the penne-a-la-soup-vodka with added miniscule chips of chicken it was disappointing to say the least. All menu items we have ordered countless times that were off their usual high standard. Way off, as in cutting corners. I've had better penne-a-la-vodja from a jar that I didn't need a soup spoon to eat. If you add in the waitress and her uncordial demeanor and snarky remarks, the meal was a total disaster. I do not like to leave reviews, so I emailed Patty B at her listed email to let her know and ro see if she could explain the negative issues we experienced. She NEVER wrote back. When the owner of an establishment cannot address a concern from a regular customer who wrote a private email so as not to spread bad faith, well, that tells me all I need to know about how they truly feel about their customers. I was so looking forward to trying this place because of the other reviews that I read in a group I joined on FB. The service and waitstaff is beyond kind and hospitable, so I can't even say a word badly about this place in that regards. However for me, the food was more Americanized so to appeal to the palate of the locals, instead of tantalize the taste buds. The flavors are muted and average if that. My family doesn't go out much for Italian, being that our family hails from Italy. That being said, I had to try this place, because everyone was raving about this spot - so I got the bolognese, a very comforting dish that is a personal favorite. It's a basic Italian dish and for me, this was just lacking flavor and substance. Now my having just said all I did, I will go back to try this place again. I know sounds crazy right? I will go back and order a different dish and see what happens. The service is stellar, so that is worth a drink at least... my husband hates going out for Italian, as he's spoiled to have it whenever he wants at home and even he said it just wasn't flavorful to where he felt compelled to return, although he will. :) We will try different dishes and I will update my review. Businesses can have "off" days and there can be days where it's better than the day before. I understand that, which is why I will go back and give them a second chance. I am a huge Ristorante Massimo fan, so if I do currently go out for a meal, this establishment is the kind of food I am looking for - they served meals that truly take you HOME. They don't have any of the American accepted versions of what people assume is Italian cooking. If you go to Italy, you will not find ANY dish called spaghetti and meatballs. They do have a version of what one would call a meatball, however they are called polpettes and can vary in size/ingredients/spices depending on region. But they are eaten in a soup or separately - they are not ever served with spaghetti. Some notes in conversation with my family regarding Patty B's Menu: Chicken Parm - American. Bacon Sea Scallops (not Italian). Arancini are made with seasoned crusty bread crumbs, not panko either (Japanese). Fries & Onion Rings?!?! All subs - Americanized, the paninis in Italy are not even similar to these. I could go line by line through their entrees as well, but I will just stop there. This is a comfort restaurant serving American food, but I wouldn't categorize it Italian due to the ingredients, choices, and offerings. **The family went line by line through the menu and decided the restaurant to be classified in their minds as a tribute to Italian American immigrants. AGAIN, nothing wrong with Italian American eating, this way of eating is commonly welcomed from locals looking for comfort food. However this isn't recommended for anyone looking for traditional meals from the boot. read more

It was like they anticipated our every need before we could even think of it. I planned on taking half of my entree home and I just could not put my fork down. I loved my meal and simultaneously had food envy of everyone at the table. We were a large party celebrating a special occasion, lots of apps, drinks, everyone had food, and everything was exceptional. I'm sorry we didn't find out about this place sooner or we would have been here each trip up to visit our daughter at UNH. Now that we have found it, we've been here twice in the past month. If you are in UNH area, this is worth the trip. We drove over from Portsmouth. Even so we made reservations on a very stormy Thursday evening, we still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Remember, it's a pandemic and the restaurant industry has been decimated. Be nice and respectful. We began with a large garden salad which was enough for the three of us. Our entrees consisted of Rigatoni with sweet sausage, the flatbread mushroom pizza, and the eggplant parmigiana served over pasta. Everything came out fresh and hot. Did I mention the very generous and large portions? You're getting quality and quantity! The rigatoni was perfectly cooked al dente and it came with the right amount of sweet sausage. Delicious. The flat bread pizza consisted of fresh mushrooms and a very tasty sauce. Enough for one person. The eggplant was baked and not fried in breadcrumbs. Great choice. There was nothing left of the Rigatoni dish and we took home the leftovers. I had the pizza the next night and it was outstanding. The service was very good and friendly. There was a display case in the front which shows all of the large cakes, cookies, and pastries, they offer for dessert. Unfortunately, we were stuffed and had no room left. There was seating outside in addition to seating in their warm and charming dining area. If you want to have a drink, there is a bar. Plenty of parking in their private lot. I had driven by this restaurant many times and decided to stop in yesterday. It was busy but not packed. I sat in what is probably the bar area. Wait staff come right over and took drink order. I asked for bread before meal came which they brought out right away. I ordered the chicken marsala on Angel hair pasta. It was delicious. The mushrooms and chicken were so flavorful and the pasta had soaked up the marsala sauce. I had enough leftovers for dinner that. Service is fast. Staff are happy and check on you frequently. This was our second visit to Patty B's. Our daughter was visiting for her birthday, we knew Patty's would be an excellent choice (casual, friendly) that she would enjoy. It's so hard to find good, authentic Italian food in our area (Wolfeboro) and Patty's delivers. My wife had the chicken parm, my daughter the eggplant parm, and I the veal parm (all sandwiches). They both chose side salads (fresh & flavorful), and I the caesar side (anchovies on request). We agreed that the usual french fries would have been too heavy with the sandwiches (though they were great on our first visit). We all were very pleased, but unfortunately too full to partake of their eye-catching desserts. Service was excellent, even with only 2 servers for several parties. We were seated promptly, and the check delivered quickly after we declined dessert. We look forward to our next visit, hopefully to sample the broader dinner menu. read more

We had high hopes based on reviews we'd read but we were disappointed. There was drama between the hostesses and waitstaff about where patrons were being seated and our food took quite a while, about 30 minutes. We really wouldn't have minded how long the food took if it was worth it, but it wasn't. I got a caprese salad with chicken. It was not bad. It came with 3 small chicken "strips", I don't even think you could call them tenders but my husbands chicken parm sandwich had even LESS chicken. It was tough to find any meat in the sandwich and was more of a cheese and sauce sandwich. Perhaps we made the wrong order because the pizzas the folks next to us ordered looked great! I'm from close to Boston I'm used to good food. This was not even close to it I got the homemade fettuccine which I make homemade too I've never had it this thick before. The tomato sauce is actually that it tasted like cans Hunts tomato sauce that was heated up no taste at all. I asked for it with shrimp they literally took a few shrimp and steamed it and threw them on top. A second person at my table ordered the spaghetti with the clams it did not say clam sauce it's a clams when that happens they always put the spaghetti in a white sauce or red with whole clams that have been cooked and placed on top they had it look like ground up clams thrown over it. Then the attitude of the the help was horrible. One girl came out of the kitchen with someone's dinner and asked if it was my and I said no I ordered the fettuccine and shrimp she looked at me seriously and said hold on I will get yours in a minute I was just telling her what I had audited. When my girlfriend wound up getting her plate and she said it tasted awful with the spaghetti and clams she even said that was terrible could not even eat it a lady came out from the kitchen said she was the cook what's wrong with it with an attitude. Then they actually took back the food but they charge us for it I told her I wasn't paying for it you took it back. The patio is one of the best parts is the outdoor patio which makes for a great ambiance for dinner. The food is definitely on the American side of Italian cuisine. Three words - The Pastry Case! Such an amazing selection of desserts. During time in between lunch and dinner this is the place to stop for a cocktail and a beautifully homemade dessert. The lemon cake was amazing. The Bavarian chocolate cake was a little dry but rich chocolate flavor. The chocolate chip cookie was big and delicious. The cocktails were well made and a nice glass of Prosecco was perfect with the dessert. The staff seemed particularly stressed out on this visit and were pleasant but ran around the dining room a bit more frenzied than would be warranted for the plentiful number of servers to the number of tables. Even the check in process seemed to be stressful for the staff. Not sure why there was so much tension but it made us as guests anxious. Patty was working the shift and was very pleasant and cordial.
