We were in town to bury my father in law, a lifetime Greenville resident. Thinking it would be a nice break, we took our mother in law out to breakfast. We asked for a table outside because she can't hear well, and the cafe was bustling and loud. The staff seated us, but had to move tables around outside. The hostess and a "regular" of the cafe said things like "this is what we do in a tourist economy." "We have to accommodate the tourists." As if we were a bother and they were bending over backward to accommodate us. Because my mother in law was there, and she is emotionally raw right now, I avoided conflict. So I'll say now, what I wanted to say to those snarky, rude employees Thursday: My husband's family has had a plot in the Taylorsville cemetery for longer than those two ladies been alive -- combined. His grandmother had 2 restaurants in Greenville. His mother is a fixture in the community, living through the Dixie fire and coming back to rebuild her life. Now she'll bury her husband there. My sister and brother in law worked in public service in Quincy for decades. We aren't tourists. And even if we were, you were incredibly unwelcoming. You made a sad day worse. Had a wonderful first visit at this cozy home town coffee shop with an amazing breakfast and lunch menu. We've driven past this cafe for years on our way to Bucks Lake and I was so excited to try it! We both opted for breakfast options since it is served all day, even though it was almost lunchtime and they did not disappoint! I was in Quincy a couple of times recently and I happen to try Patty's thunder Café. I have to say the breakfast was absolutely excellent. I think we might've even had like a waffle eggs bacon sausage works the service was it was packed, but the service was excellent. It took our order right at the counter as we got it to go this time and we have some coffee and you know we talk to people outside who are nice and mingling. It was a great atmosphere. The ambiance was perfect, and the service was amazing. Our server came back several times to check on us and made us feel appreciated as customers. As for the meal, I ordered chicken fried steak and eggs. Usually, the portion sizes at many places are way too large. At Patti's, the portions are just right and the food cooked exactly the way we asked. These days that can be a hard thing to find. Overall, I would highly recommend Patti's Morning Thunder Cafe! We come to Quincy at least once a year or more. This time we wanted breakfast, and popped in here for the first time. At first, I thought the menu looked expensive, knowing how sometimes the food in small mountain communities is subpar. But after eating, it was a deal and so worth it! The food is homemade quality---in a good way. Like grandma who's an excellent cook made it just for you. I had 1 pancake, 1 egg over medium and a sausage patty. Usually when I eat sausage out, I feel bloaty and yucky afterward. NOT HERE! The sausage looked homemade--that means no crappy bi-products or preservatives. It was delicious, not excessively fatty and hearty. My breakfast may sound small, but I could not eat it all. The pancake was huge and so was the sausage patty. My husband had eggs, potatoes, bacon and a "short" biscuit and gravy order. He loved the gravy, said it was the best and tasted homemade. It was a lot of food again. I also ordered a vanilla latte. Usually latte's are too hot for me to drink, but this one was luke warm, if that. I mentioned it to my waitress, and she was eager to fix it. She offered to remake it, but I did not want to waste it, so we just settled on her nuking it for me. Which I would have been happy about. But a couple of minutes later, the girl who made it came out and handed me another, fresh made one that was hot, and perfect--no charge, though I had half drank the first. The waist staff are attentive; we never ran out of water or coffee. They know the menu, are full of tips and advice, and are friendly, helpful and professional, but personable. We will definitely make it a point to come again for breakfast or try their lunch. But this place is a gem. I appreciate good, honest food, and you will find it here. read more

My wife is from Quincy and we were back in town for the Plumas County Fair along with a planning session for her 50th high school reunion later this year. We had our Saturday morning breakfast at Patti's Thunder Cafe and it was perfect. I'm not sure why but it's the first time we've eaten her and that's our loss. We both had the petite huevos rancheros. I had mine with added grilled sliced jalapeños. We both agreed the petite portions was generous and about the size you'd expect for a regular portion at most restaurants. So when Patti's advertises generous portions they are being modest. My wife and I both love Mexican food and have eaten hue is rancheros across the country and Mexico from Cabo San Lucas to Puerto Vallarta. We were pleasantly surprised to find Patti's Thunder Cafe ranks in the top 5 offerings of huevos rancheros we've had anywhere in our over 42 years of traveling together. It may sound a little strange finding such a great offering in a small town cafe in the Northern California Sierra Nevada mountains but we were pleasantly surprised. We were so surprised that we'll be back tomorrow morning to order the same meal. This time I'll order the regular size meal just to see the size. If you find yourself in Quincy, do yourself a favor and have a meal or two at Patti's Thunder Cafe.
