I would love to say this place is a good one, however, the entire experience was not good. Started when The cashier seemed very irritated that I had questions about the food (nobody else was in line btw). I told them I was taking it home so I'd have 20 min drive & would love a hot mocha now while I wait and shake for desert. I got a taco salad and fried zucchini with a shake- and talk about not worth it.... The shake came out first which wasn't a huge concern until 25 minutes later when I'm still standing there with no mocha, no salad and a very melted shake. They finally gave me the salad after 45 minutes and when I asked for money back for mocha they just made one quick (and lacking the extra shots of espresso I paid for). I came home and was CHARGED $14 + $5 for meat For a salad with 2tbsp of toppings, not even a tomato. There was a scoop of corn with sour cream and 3 tiny pieces of chicken. I was so angry I almost went back. The zucchini was greasy and burned. Shake I put in the freezer and ate when it came a thick and there was about .5 cup left (I had to also scrape the whip off since when I said no whip they again just didn't do it right). I've had issues with Polka Dot in the past, but my recent experiences here have really changed my opinion. The jalapeño poppers are some of the best I've ever had, and the crispy chicken sandwiches are incredible. I've ordered it twice and got a great sandwich both times. The chicken is tasty and the veggies are in good shape too. Before, I would never eat here because of the wait times, but both of the times I've eaten here in the last month, I was shocked at how quickly the food was ready. I think maybe the staff gets overwhelmed when it's super busy, but if you come here outside of peak times it's a much better experience. I've been a repeat customer of the polkadot and I've noticed serious sanitary issues, including one of the workers touching his nose and then touching my burger, as well as touching the buns with the same gloves that he handled the raw meat with. I spoke to the owner and told her that the restaurant is dirty and that her employees aren't following health and safety codes. She told me that the restaurant is old and shrugged it off after that she brought me mozzarella sticks that were completely raw on the inside. This restaurant is dirty and expensive. read more

Great little spot to stop off at before a long drive home. Thought I'd leave a review here with the latest menu pics. We just got a few snacks and most of them before I remembered to take pics. The service was fantastic. The mozzarella sticks were tasty and served with a delicious creamy marinara sauce and the chicken tenders were perfect. Price is amazing. Quality ehhhh. But again price is amazing. I did get a banana split and was super disappointed it came in a paper tray typically used for French fries! It was leaking everywhere by the time I got to my truck. Service was really Slow and I was the only one there and still took 14 minutes for 1 banana split. Polka dot has been a staple for us through the years traveling to lake houses at Bucks lake or Lake Almanor. We took an adventure Easter Sunday after a family brunch to lake Almanor to check on our property with some family members not thinking the drive home would offer limited to no dinner options being later on a holiday Sunday. I looked to yelp not believing my eyes when I saw this place said 'closing soon', and we rejoiced when we saw the bright red open sign at the polka dot at 8:30pm on a holiday Sunday night. We ordered 4 burgers fries and a few shakes, what this frosty place is known for.. Although our hunger factor was high, these burgers were just that good, juicy with a great thousand island homemade type sauce cooked with a slight hint of pink. We ate them down quickly and we're back on the road home in no time. The fries were hot and thick but got a little soggy on the ride home. The shakes - well is a shake ever bad ? But these shakes were thick and rich.. so good! The servers were kind and attentive and we appreciate this local ran business for being open on a holiday and the great food! read more

I'm sad to have to share this review. My family has been vacationing at Bucks Lake for decades. We discovered The Polka Dot about 7 or 8 years ago. We always make a mid-week trip down to Quincy and look forward to stopping at The Polka Dot every year. It's a highlight of the trek down the mountain to get more groceries and fuel. Me, my kids and grandkids absolutely love this place! Unfortunately, our visit today left us feeling like never coming back. We were told when ordering our food that it would be a 25-30 min wait. We love the food and the picnic area, so we were fine with waiting. It took over an hour to get our food. I had ordered an iced mocha coffee drink with my order. When we picked up the food, my husband was told that they had called our order earlier for the mocha and no one picked it up, and now it's not there. (Not sure where it went??). My husband let her know that we never heard it called over the speaker, so can she please remake the drink. She said, "well there are 3 shakes ahead of you, it's going to be a bit of a wait". Okay. No problem. We went over and our family ate our lunch. The food was not the same. The burgers are normally delicious. Today they were nothing special. The fries were not hot and the kids burger that was ordered plain, wasn't plain. But we didn't complain or send it back. After we finished eating (now we've been here about 2 hrs), I still did not have my coffee drink. So I went up to the window. I asked the young girl working the window if my mocha was done. She informed me that she could make it, but I'd have to wait. I told her that we've already been waiting and we've been here 2 hours already. I then told her if you can't make it, then just give me my money back. She said again that she can make it, but I would have to wait. I told her again that we've been waiting, it's literally espresso shots, milk and ice and only takes a couple of minutes. If she couldn't do that, then I want my money back. At no time did I raise my voice or act rude. She slammed the window shut and went to go make my drink. Less than 2 minutes later she opened the window, handed me my drink and SLAMMED the window shut. The drink wasn't a mocha, but I just took it and we left. I felt bad for this young girl. She was obviously overwhelmed and lacks customer service training. I worked in fast food when I was young too, but would have been fired if I ever treated a customer like this. I'm not sure if there are new owners, but they obviously need more staff and proper training on how to run a business. It's sad that this hidden gem that we absolutely adored has come to this. I hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears. I hope the owners make some changes and bring this establishment back to where it used to be. Together my family of 8 spent over $100 on lunch, plus left tips. In the future, we would much rather give our money to a better run business that appreciates their customers. read more

I got the chicken tenders and the hand breaded mozzarella sticks. The wait was not long, 5 minutes maybe? The chicken tender portion felt small, but remember it was only $5, I'd probably get two if I come back. The chicken breading was delicious, and the chicken itself was tender and moist. The mozzarella sticks were definitely hand breaded, two were a bit fused together and the breading was sort of, a blanket rather than a sweater if that makes sense lol. The tomato sauce was different (I was expecting marinara style, but its almost a creamy tomato soup, which they have on the menu so it is probably that). They have a tree-y area with a little creek that you can sit on picnic benches and eat. It's perfect if you're driving and need a car break, or have dogs or just want some fresh air without roasting to death in the sun. In the end, what I got was filling, and worth the price for me. And they put it in the bag long ways so it all fell to the bottom of the bag. We couldnt ask them to fix it since we drove the 30 min back home and opened the bag. Took one bite and couldn't eat it. They 100% knew the avocado wasnt ripe since it was like cutting into a block of hard cheddar cheese. They should have told us to order something else since the avo was not ripe. Fries also good. Prices reasonable on the mini-meals. I think the speed of service has improved from what it was in the past. The park-like table area has spots of shade and two creeks flowing through it. I would not hesitate to stop there again. read more

We have patronized the Polka Dot through several changes in management in the last 30 years. The current owners offer delicious food at a fair price, considering the convenience and pleasant environment. Awnings have been installed to shade the order line and there is seating available. A little stream runs through the grassy area near the picnic tables. Food is not fast, but worth the wait. Even if you eat elsewhere, stop by for dessert. Remember Yelpers, three stars is A-OK. Come on, you're in the middle of nowhere, you're lucky to be able to roll up on this place if you just want to grab something quick (maybe not quick) to eat. I must say, they have quite a large menu selection, offering many different things (see my menu pictures). OK, the food. Let's just say it's a good burger stand in the middle of nowhere with a large menu and unfortunately small kid size portions unless you get the monster Burger. Basically, you should order two things if you want to get full. Our crew got the hot dog, corned dog, double cheese burger, tater tots and a fried fish sandwich, no complaints, better than expected! If you're that hungry stop, but if you can wait just go somewhere else. I know the options in the area are limited but the quality of the food is horrible. My burger had a bug in it? The lettuce looked like it was 2 weeks old. (I hate brown veggies in my food) not only are the locals very unwelcoming. The wait for the ice cream was 20 minutes. It was noonish and the girl making the ice cream cones said they were out of napkins, had to go get those. Then she notices they are out of cones and has to get those. This is after my number is called. Seems they would replenish at closing so that they could quickly get through the day? They call your number after you order for your drink and then for your ice cream, unlike most places that give that to you while you're at the order window. The food is just okay. The shakes and malts are much better than the food. Pricing is reasonable and it took about 15 minutes for our food to be made. We had the chicken strips, buffalo chicken sandwich, a regular hamburger, order of fries and some spicy mozzarella sticks. Haven't posted a review in a long time, kind of stayed in with COVID. Didn't feel like making lunch yesterday and I wanted to keep listening to the 49ers, so I thought I'd give Polka Dot a try. It was pretty bad under the prior ownership (known as Puke n Rot by many) but it's been much better with new owners! I ordered a burger and the battered fries and it was BOMB! The burger was perfect, the fries excellent and the wait was very short. 5 stars with caveat, it's a drive in people, not a gourmet sit down place! We used to live in Quincy and came up with our granddaughters to show them around. Everything else seemed to be indoor dining and during Covid time we wanted to eat outside. The Polka Dot has a nice outside dining area with picnic tables near a little "mini-creek." Sadly, the food was mediocre at best. Edible but nothing exciting. The service was as slow as the other Yelp reviews indicate. We had a small order just for the kids and it took 35 minutes. But, it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the picnic area. Don't expect "fast food" and don't expect anything exciting. It's sad, with just a little effort this could be a really cool spot. read more
