Patelco Cost me thousands! Nearly three years on autopay with a 36 month car loan. While I was out of country they canceled my autopay and dinged my credit. I had maybe two payments and a credit rating of 810. It went to 650, all my cards cut my credit, utilization doubled, and rates went through the roof. Been a member for 35 years. Until recently we have been very happy with all aspects of their service. Within the last year, things have become totally unacceptable. We have had issues with our auto loan, the last of a dozen, that were never resolved and the customer service representative was ambivalent. Completely unacceptable. Lastly, we have asked Patelco to charge back two online purchases. They responded quickly. But refused to honor our requests. Both purchase charge back were reversed and we had to swallow both for about $220. Both were clear cases of fraud. We are closing our account and moving to another credit union. This branch often has 1 teller and more often than not, it takes 15-20 minutes to do a simple transaction. All I needed to do was deposit a check that the ATM would not take. I ended up leaving because the 1 teller was helping the same person for 10 minutes. And the line just kept getting bigger. Meanwhile there were 2 employees at desks that could have helped. So I am thinking about "Switching to Petelco" from Chase Bank... My problem is the "Unauthorized Charges" that seem to come upon any account... The part that isn't tolerable is the 10-day wait that Chase has to issue a new card. - It's too long, I need a card just to get to work... I can do a week (if I start on Thursday but I would have to prepay things (Lyft/Uber/Clipper) to get there (I work in Santa Clara live in Walnut Creek) I am tired of BANKS, I HATE them all, Years ago a good friend used Peltelco he used to tell me "Paltelco is the way to go"... I cannot thank Patelco enough for catching four fraudulent charges on my account. I have Covid-19. I have been in the ER twice. I was laid off from a job I loved the day I was diagnosed. Feeling miserable, I was looking at my online account. I did not understand what I was looking at (Covid does affect your thinking). Ironically, Patelco called me and we reviewed my account. My husband had passed away suddenly and they were very helpful and compassionate with my accounts (he did the banking). I also have B of A accounts which I'm switching over to Patelco. We had CD account with them for several years. When it was time to renew we figured they would just put the money into a similar timed CD account. Boy did we figure wrong. They let it sit in a passbook account with like 0.01 % interest for 3-4 months until I called and asked about it. They got caught with their pants down. We should have moved it then. We were forewarned. When the next maturity date arrived, they must have remembered me because they reminded us over and over again. This time around they were advertising a rate at like 4.5% interest. When I called to talk to them about it, it turns out that rate is only for their "loyal" customers, i.e. had been with them for 10 years! We had been there 7 years but I guess that was not loyal enough! They were completely inflexible. We moved it to a brokerage account with a higher interest rate than their "loyal" customers were offered and was not a timed account. Every time I think about our experience with them I get the urge to wash my hands. read more

11 April 2022: we filed a complaint against Patelco with the CA Department of Financial Protection and Innovation for atrocious mistreatment we suffered at the branch after appearing in person on Sat, 16 Jan 2022, to enable an online account disabled the day before without notice or reason: disablement inflicted as a result of previous online contact with Member Services concerning the account's Zelle feature. No reason for the disablement was given at the branch office by either the regular teller or the Member Solutions Specialist we were referred to once we presented ourselves and our credentials to resolve the problems. Our primary complaint was that the holder of the questioned account is a language-challenged Thai national whom the Member Services rep, after complaining about how our messages were generated, ordered to CALL a telephone number for assistance or resort to CHAT. The branch teller admitted that was a wrong recommendation in the circumstances; she suggested that we become CO-account holders to preclude future problems since the online rep rejected my right to communicate on behalf of the member even after we recounted the complete details of our 7-year relationship: including the fact that I helped the member first open her account at that branch assisted by the branch manager whom we referenced for verification. Reps, online and off, inexplicably ignored our personal referral to the former manager, relocated to the nearby Danville branch. The Member Solutions Specialist provided us with the Universal Signature Card to co-sign, mistreating us as criminal suspects every step of the process with a condescending and suspicious attitude, suggesting at some stage to cut a check for the balance to close the account, despite the fact that between us we boasted a combined TWENTY(20)YEARS of membership at THIS branch! She harped upon the member's understanding, resorting to GOOGLE TRANSLATE trying ineptly to prove us fraudulent. In response to our first complaint about that mis-treatment, their dis-information office waited until 23 FEBRUARY to make their harassing telephone call to the account holder at her workplace, trying ineptly to disprove her consent to completing paperwork at their branch office over a full month earlier. Their written response to the DFPI is riddled with outright lies, omissions, distortions, misrepresentations of fact. Outrageous. Complaint accepted by the Better Business Bureau, so even if Yelp censors it here(again), Patelco will be compelled to account this time without fail. read more

I've been with this business for over 20 years. The concord branch is so much better but I am forced to use this branch due to location. The ATM never works properly and as a business owner I need to be able to rely on making deposits at my convenience. Today I had to go inside because it wasn't taking my bills and was left waiting in line for way too long. There were 7 other people not helping anyone I literally was the only other customer there. Not sure why one of them would not open a windows and help me. The teller took forever conversing with her customer and by the time I was helped was told I can't even use the ATM. What a waste of my time. Seems like I've had more problems with them in the past years. From false information, bad service and not a great place to do banking anymore. They are very professional and easy to work with, plus, the interest rates are good and there are very few fees such as the ones you would find at commercial banks. There are just 2 designated parking spaces in the back lot, but street parking can usually be found. The main drawback is the hours which are 10-6 on weekdays. That is not early enough for folks who want to bank in the morning or before work. read more

Kristine at the branch did what she could, quickly and efficiently, but could not solve the problem on the spot. She told me that she would research further and get back to me and then set up a time for us to come in for another appointment. I figured this meant that I'd have to follow up and figure it out. I LOVE BEING TREATED LIKE A HUMAN BEING. I know, I know, it's a weird fetish and it's definitely not something that my old bank (BofA) cared about or respected enough to implement in their interactions with me. I recently made the switch to Patelco after hearing so many great things from my friends and family members who have accounts and I could not be happier. When I go into the bank, I'm greeted with warm smiles and genuine helpfulness. When I call the customer service line, reps talk to me with sincerity instead of rushing to get me off the phone and take the next caller. All of these seemingly minor details (y'know, the whole treating humans like humans thing) add up to an impressive financial institution that I plan on banking with for many years to come. If you're cautious like I've become and you're looking for ratings on this credit union, let me share a bit of information with you. I'm choosing this branch because it's the one I dealt with the most. IDK how bad this company was before CV but I can tell you now, it's not well run. The real trouble began when I moved out of state. I needed to close my account but I didn't have my account number since my important things ended up in storage much longer than expected. Nonetheless, the issues have nothing to do with that, really. First: know that, if you are unfortunate enough to have to attempt to reach someone in customer service by phone, you will be on hold for an hour at most times. Second. Some of their representatives are extremely rude and not helpful. It took me three attempts to complete what I needed...well honestly I'm not sure because I was on hold with the final call and was cut off. Oh yes, that also happens. I had finally gotten a very helpful person though, unlike the first two representatives. One more thing, specific to this branch: I had asked a financial question, which the teller passed on to a manager. I finally got a call back from that manager 6 WEEKS later. By then I had already moved on with that issue. read more

Unfortunately had a bad experience at this credit union today. Been a long time member , probably over 7-8 years and have 5-6 paid and completed car loans. Rates are good, but I reccomend staying away from the home loan department. The process is lengthy (as compared to Wells Fargo) and unfortunately very unorgainzed. I brought all my supporting documents in, only to be turned away after an hour of data entry. Such a shame because I am now going to be moving my $ to another bank. My wife and I have been with Patelco for years. Nothing but good experience with them, but this review in particular is for the loan officer on our mortgage, James Marasco--He's amazing. We started looking for a house last summer and knew we wanted to get our mortgage through Patelco because 1. They're a credit union and not a bank and; 2. They never sell, bundle or farm-out their loans. All the servicing and whatnot is done right here in the Bay Area (Pleasanton, if I'm remembering correctly). We had a number of realtors tell us that we'd loose out when making offers when people saw we weren't using a "local" mortgage broker (read: freaking crook!) but James was so on top of things (returning calls and emails way past business hours!) that if we were putting in offers, the sellers, realtors, and title people knew that our loan wasn't going to hold up escrow. All in all, we found a great place, and James made the process absolutely seamless. He's a real professional and great at what he does. I love Patelco. They hire great people and let them do their thing. In our case, it saved us a bunch of time and money and let us keep our home loan where we do all our other banking. read more

I have had checking accounts at Wells Fargo, WAMU and Chase and they have nothing on Patelco! Not only do they have great web access, the customer service that their tellers provide is unparalleled. I have had direct deposit for over a year so I don't have to come to the branch very often, but they always remember my name! They have great rates for loans too! Only thing that they are lacking is compatibility with mobile phones. I have a Blackberry and I cannot do much more than check my balance from it. It would be great if I could pay bills or transfer funds. Overall, their customer service trumps any tech issues. read more
