Switched from Wells Fargo to Mechanics bank a few years ago because I wanted a bank that wasn't shady and wasn't trying to nickle and dime me constantly and try to sell me all sorts of services I didn't need. My every experience I've had with Mechanics Bank have been great, they remember my name when I go in, they are quick and personable, and they seem like they work with the community for the betterment of the community. Not sure why all the one star reviews, but my experiences have been really good. Will continue to bank with them as long as they stay community and customer focused and don't put profits above all else. read more

I've been with Mechanics Bank for 15+ years for both my business and personal banking. The Walnut Creek branch is outstanding. Maria is a fantastic teller who always greets me by name with a smile, providing flawless service every time. They've even called me to fix minor issues with my night deposits rather than just rejecting them. Marc is the area manager and he was incredibly patient and kind when helping my 7-year-old grandson open his first savings account. He made the experience very special and fun for him. I worked with big banks before and they were beyond terrible. I am glad I teamed up with this bank and highly recommend them. read more

Mechanics Bank - My grandson getting his money pouch, pens and other items when he opened his first bank account. - Banks & Credit Unions Near Me - Walnut Creek, California

they stole my money NEVER COME HERE. I repeat, never use Mechanics Bank, they took my money and tried to play victim. They have cameras that are around the Bank which are very clear and viable and after their shift they will go back to the cameras and take a picture and use it for themselves so please. Don't ever come here if I could give 0 stars I would. read more

I have been a customer of HomeStreet Bank for 10+ years interacting with Raymond, Gorete, and Lisa in the Point Loma San Diego Branch. Best Bank I had ever chosen and I love the team there for all the service they provided. When i first learned of the acquisition by Mechanics Bank, i didn't give much thought to it as things seemed to work seamlessly. Until the fateful technology and platform transition on March 20. I still love the people I've mentioned but Mechanics Bank is an organization led by a bunch of disfunctional, disgruntled, and incompetent people, with an average at best platform. I could not log in to my new Mechanics Banks accounts for nearly a month. My electronic transactions were nearly all returned or processed late, and all 3 of my accounts showed up with several hundred dollars in additional bank fees during the first 3 weeks. i have closed one account, may close my personal account and the 3rd in the coming weeks. What happened to HomeStreet Bank? The Board was incompetent and Mechanics Bank is C+ maybe. read more

This is the second time in the last couple of weeks I've walked out of this bank that I've patronized for 20 years: No tellers available. All I wanted was small bills for my 20s from the ATM machine, but the one teller on duty was tied up with an elderly couple. Please, Mechanics, I know individual patrons trying to convert larger bills to smaller ones is not your priority, but you have no trouble accepting all my automatic deposits. I came to your bank because you were different from the large banks, more individual attention and more perks, but you no longer have POP money, or free ATM withdrawals from any bank once a month as you once did, nor do you have Zelle. You only allow Venmo which doesn't immediately deposit funds as Zelle does. If it wasn't such a hassle to switch banks, I'd be long gone. read more

I'm looking at these old reviews and wondering what is up with people! This is a good bank. All banks are short on tellers these days but I've never had to wait very long. And if you park in their lot and go "shopping," what do you expect? Of course you're going to get ticketed. The parking lot is for bank customers and I like that convenience. I've been banking here for years and have never had any issues. read more

My husband and I have a business and recently opened an account with mechanics Bank. We do our primary banking in Lafayette. The branch service is excellent. They are always welcoming and greet me by name. Yesterday, I visited the Walnut Creek branch and the service was just as good. Bank of America has closed the Orinda and Moraga locations. The remaining location is always understaffed. And those that are there are never welcoming or honestly helpful with our business. Always suggesting we email for an appointment as no one answers the branch phone. I did go on the website to make an appointment with the business banker and there were no appointments for 10 days. I'm so glad we opened a business account with Mechanics. read more

My car loan is on auto payment. Nonetheless, Mechanics tries to chase me down saying I haven't paid. I've literally had to send screenshots from my bank and ask them to stop harassing me. They are the absolute worst. read more

Beware! Find another Mechanics Bank branch for regular banking because the Walnut Creek Mechanics Bank (1350 N. Main Street) collaborates with the predatory, private ParkSmart Company to give parking tickets even to bank customers using the bank's parking lot when the bank is closed! If you use the ATM on a Sunday and leave the bank premises to grab a cup of coffee and quickly return to your car, you will get a ticket if you didn't pay for parking. read more

If you plan on going to this bank make sure you park your car in another parking lot. They'll slap a ticket on your windshield in a heartbeat. I went in to open an account with them and they all seemed friendly. There was only one person there that could help me open an account so I had to wait a couple minutes. My mom was in a store 2 stores down and wanted me to come help her carry the gifts to her car so I left for all of 10 minutes. I told the teller Zach I would be back and that I had to meet my mom next door and he said no problem. When I get back I see a ticket on my windshield and I talk to the guy outside writing the tickets and he told me since I wasn't in the bank the entire time my car was in the lot he gave me a ticket....even though he saw me walk in the bank! The fake security out in that parking lot is ridiculous. It's Christmas Eve smh. My car was in the parking lot for maybe 20 minutes. read more

Extremely unprofessional. I tried twice to open an account with this bank. I did this with reservations - they seem to charge fees for services other banks include with the account fee. But they are local and I want a local bank for an account that I am moving. I filled out all of the paper work. The documents and website state that a representative will contact you in 2 - 3 business days/48 hours. At the end of the 3rd business day, I check my email to see if perhaps they have sent something there and found that I had been through this in 2013. There was an email to them about setting up an account that they never responded too. A week later, still nothing, so I call them - but the customer service hours on their application documents are wrong and they were closed. The next day I open my account with a different bank. It took all of 10 minutes online and I got an immediate confirmation. Everything that would have been an extra fee with Mechanic's is free with the bank I went with. I sent Mechanic's an email pointing out the errors and asking them to disregard my application. This time I actually got a reply. They said they sent out the welcome package and to just shred it. No acknowledgement of the errors, no apology, zero attempt to get my business. That speaks volumes about how this bank is run and what their customer service model looks like. read more

I'm a small businessman and over the past 25 years have dealt with several banks/financial institutions, and the ONLY one that has been fair, kind, human, personable, fully honest, and most of all helpful, is the Walnut Creek branch the The Mechanics Bank. Starting out in a business, they accept us as clients for credit card processing when others wouldn't. They aren't pushovers. They were didn't give me the big line of credit I thought I needed at the time, but listened to my story, explained why it was a bad idea for both of us, and ultimately gave me a "starter" LOC that we've since grown bigger. Scott is great. He actually listens with not crossed arms. He makes eye contact. He is the opposite of your nightmare banker. read more

Jann was a pleasure to work with. She was kind and friendly on the phone as well as in person. I went to open a new 2nd savings account there today. She was quite helpful and easy to talk to. Unfortunately, as I expected, there are certain tellers in the bank that seem to feel it is ok to discriminate, insult and single me out every time I visit the bank inside or at the drive-thru and I am fed up with it. I had actually explained to Jann how much I appreciated her friendliness as opposed to certain prior incidents of being singled out for using the drive thru or walking into the bank. A few minutes later, she understood why I told her what I told her. Marina had to speak loudly enough across the bank to exclaim how shocked she was that I walked inside the bank branch instead of using the drive thru. The last time I went through the drive thru to request 2 transactions 1. deposit my check and 2. withdrawal money, the teller "Marina" felt the need to tell me how "bad" I looked and asked if I was feeling well and then proceeded to forget what I requested her to do. Her rudeness is unacceptable and totally unprofessional and I'm tired of enduring it and feeling uncomfortable every single time I go to the bank to deposit a check. The drive thru is made for our convenience and yet why do I feel like I have been a inconvenience to certain tellers there? I've been banking here now since 2009 and I think I deserve more than disrespect every time I visit. Matt and Jann are respectful and professional. I'd appreciate if others, like Marina will follow their example. The actions and words of a person can either make or break someone's day. read more

Really bad customer service,The Point Richmond Branch put a 10 day hold on my deposit even though I have had an account for years. This review is for Mechanics Bank in general. They have great, personal service. I have had accts with all the big banks and Mechanics tellers actually try to help you eliminate the late fees. A check came through that I wrote months ago and received a personal call telling me that I needed to make a transfer. You can actually call the branch directly and ask for a person instead of a 1800 number. The downfall is there aren't many branches but they DON'T charge you for using other bank's ATM and reimburse you for the other bank's fee. read more

Friendly and efficient. I am a new customer and they already know me by name. They return fees for using other banks' ATMs! As a small business owner, I needed a place to do some very basic banking. After asking a few other business owners, I kept hearing the same place, Mechanics! Grant took care of me that first day, and I have had complete trust in Mechanics ever since. I even switched my personal account over! For me it is the little things in a bank. They make everything very easy, everyone is always very friendly, and many of the people there already know me! read more

Total bummer today. I've been a client of Mechanics Bank and I used to love them, but today's service was nothing but unpleasant. I was told that I could set up a self directed IRA. I spent some time getting the paperwork set up and sent over to the banker, then made an appointment to come in only to find out when I got there they don't do IRAs. Talk about bad service when they're bankers don't even know what services they offer. Than the banker proceeded to tell me they didn't have my information to call me, yet I'm a customer and somehow they couldn't look me up in the system. I've been in banking for 8 years with only community banks and would never have provided such bad service. Guess I'll be making the move to a larger bank. read more

I opened a account in Mechanics bank and transfer my money from my old bank when Washington Mutual was absorbed by Chase, and started charging fees to my "free" business checking account. They have a truly free checking acct for small businesses like mine. I highly recommend Mechanics bank. read more

I think it is time to boycott Walnut Creek, Mechanics Bank, and Regional Parking. My wife has a broken foot and we have an CA Handicap Parking Permit. We parking in the Mechanic Parking Lot last night as it was the closest parking available to the Restaurant that we were going to. Saw the signs with the usury parking rates, but figured according to state laws CA Handicap Permits allow for free parking. Figured Wrong. I really love this bank. Switched from Chase about a year ago. Mechanics' policies regarding check deposits and funds availability after deposits are sane and humane...compared to the deliberately abusive policies I endured at Chase. Mechanics' personal, down-to-earth service has been awesome. They've remodeled their website in recent months...their online banking had been a very weak spot but now it's fine. While I love online banking, I find myself actually wanting to go to downtown WC to see the nice people at the bank. How weird is that! read more

I have always felt people choose to bank at the institution that abuses them the least. They will stay until it becomes intolerable, and the try another. This is not the case with MB. I love this place and they like me. I am always greeted, fast accurate service. Fees are reasonable. I found you will get the same treatment whichever branch you visit. They sincerely are happy you dropped by. It is funny though. More than one person in line and they panic, apologize and try to see if a Mgr. can help. I only wish they had a larger geographic coverage. read more

Every time I walk into this branch there is only one teller. Today I walk in and again see one teller. One person sitting at the desk behind the teller and five bankers. The teller was with a customer and one banker was with a customer everyone else seemed to be just sitting there. Finally after standing in line for a while the woman behind the desk gets up and says she can help the next person. She looked like she hated her job. She had no kind of personality at all. I asked to make a withdraw and she literally didn't make any sort of eye contact with me. I swiped my card said the dollar amount and she handed me my money. If you're going to work in customer service and retail do it with a fake smile if you have to. I love BofA but I hate coming to this branch. read more

WORST BANK EVER! Do not do business with them. We had a commercial loan with Mechanics Bank with a 5 year term. Made payments every month on time. Mechanics wanted us to move all our banking with them from Wells Fargo but Mechanics online banking is horrible. We only used Mechanics checking to pay our loan payments. Mechanics put a lien on our house because of the loan. We could not refinance our house because of the lien so we decided to give Mechanics the business to do our refinance since they know about their lien & all our financials. We were locked in at a lowish rate but it took Mechanics a long time to get the loan done. We thought this was strange because we have done refinances before. When it came time for us to sign papers for our refinance Mechanics changed our locked in rate to a higher rate. We did not do the refinance home loan it was not worth the $200 savings a month. We paid $500 for the appraisal so it was our loss. We still to this day have our original home loan with Quicken Loans. But we also have a credit score loan with Mechanics as well which we make monthly payments to on time. I avoided going into the branch on Main Street in Walnut Creek and only used the drive by window to do business because Scott who is in the branch obviously hate us for not doing the refinance on our home. When I made our last payment to our commercial loan Scott was at the drive by window. He was rude & did not come back to me when I made the last commercial loan payment at the branch, he had another teller give me my payment receipt. A few days later Scott sent us a letter demanding we pay off our credit score loan. We asked Mechanics if we could make payments for this loan due to our "never missed or paid a payment late." Everyone at Mechanics refused. We have excellent credit & have plenty of collateral to back up the loan. Not once did they even come to our 2 businesses which both our locations are about a 5 minute drive from any Mechanics branch. They obviously do business with their emotions. They deserve not even one star but could not make it no stars. BTW this is not true what they advertise. From Your Website: "We take the subject of helping your business grow very seriously. At Mechanics Bank, our team of personal business bankers focuses on the banking needs of sole proprietors to mid-sized companies. We are committed to you and your company's success, from the earliest stages through growth, expansion, succession planning or sale." read more

This review is specifically for this location on Main Street. So incredibly disappointed with the level of service received. Long story short I showed up 5 mins after driving up here from Sacramento. When I was ten mins out I called the branch to ask them if they would make an exception and let me in. The lady just kept insisting that I get there by 5. No thinking outside the box. I then show up at 5:05 and knock on the door. The manager, Scott, comes to the door. I explain to him the situation and ask that he make an exception. I need this currency by Friday, I drove all the way from Sacramento, and they just begun balancing there drawers. He stood there for 5 mins explaining to me that it was too late and he could not let me in. I definitely understand that I was late but for the banking center manager to not be able to make a decision to let one person in for this circumstance is unfortunate. What happened to empowering your leaders to do right by their customer? Had Scott stepped up and opened the doors to do business with me in my moment of need this would have left a lasting impression on me and I would have inclined to do business with mechanics. But when you can't use common sense to take care of me why should I bring my business to your? Empower your associates to do right by their clients! Such a disappointing experience. I will not be bringing or referring business to a corporation who can't help me in my moment of need. read more

Like all banks - great add campaign, but terrible service. No one in branch knows anything or can do anything. Sought a small increase in business line of credit to bridge an unexpected cash flow shortfall - acted like I was asking for a 7 figure mortgage. After half a day waiting for a response, was told I needed to fill out a new application, wait 1-2 days for approval, then a week or more for increase in credit line. Completely non-responsive to the needs of the average small business. Although they market themselves as the small business bank, my experience has proven they value slick marketing over the needs of their customers. Will be leaving as soon as it practical - and wont' be back. read more

These guys have the mentality of a traffic cop. I understand the need for rules, but when I went in to cash a $50 check and presented my driver's license, which was 15 days expired (I'm still awaiting the new one in the mail), they wouldn't cash it. I could understand if it was a thousand dollar check, or if the check looked forged, but a $50 computer generated check? It's just another example of how financial institutions don't really care about the average joe, all while claiming how important you are to them. I could have gotten this kind of service at B of A! read more

Is this or isn't this a bank???.... I've been a Mechanic's Bank customer for over 3 years now. I went into this branch today to simply exchange some $20 bills for $100 bills (I was on my way to buy a new laptop at the Apple store, and didn't want such a thick wad of cash on me) Sounds simple right?....wrong. After counting and physically taking my money and putting it IN THEIR DRAWER, I figure it's a done deal....Nope! On the spot the manager decides to say that their system wasn't "working" today, and that they couldn't help me. (This was after she looked at me like I was some sort of kid looking for trouble). Please explain to me what your "system" is....using your hand to pull $100s out of a drawer to exchange for my $20s. Then the teller had to reopen his drawer, recount and give me back my money (A bank that doesn't want your money?...that's a first!) I was beyond irritated that a bank that I put my money in, couldn't perform such a basic task as this. Maybe this branch needs a 'Mechanic', because its system is definitely broken! Lol. read more
