Went for a couples date night last Saturday. Waiter was very helpful and accommodating. Had some different drink and dinner specials. Will you bass was perfectly cooked but a little too salty my dessert was the lemon tart which was very sugar granular texture, not been paid. Worth noting this is an a hotel which is about to be turned over to another hotel. read more

Somewhat disappointing, went for my 67th B-Day celebration this past Saturday with my wife and Son. Appetizers were definitely Not on par , Caesar salads tasted like they dropped the Morton's kosher salt box in our salads. French onion soup was tasteless some spoonful's had the course outer onion skins in them. The beef bone marrow was tasteless, they tried to boost the flavor by putting 2 strips of bacon on top. Had bone marrow at other restraints this was a very poor offering. My son ordered his steak medium, it came very well done. My fish dish as well as my wife's were good, but not great as would have expected. Don't think we will be returning, looks like they have cut corners on the quality aspect. /Gary P. read more

Pastiche is one of my favorite places to go for a dinner. It honestly doesn't seem to make a difference which entree I pick, they are all amazing. I typically keep to the seafood specials but I have been trying to branch out. Their Trout Almondine is amazing and better than the ones I have had in Colorado next to the river(this is my latest must have). They are now open for brunch on Sundays too. The drink and wine listing is incredible. I have stopped asking for what I think I might want, and I ask the team which wine/cocktails I should try that evening. read more

My parents took me here while I was visiting, and it definitely lived up to what they promised! It's not just French food, it's also the French style of service, which to Americans translates to "leisurely." We had three courses along with a bottle of wine, so it was a 2+ hour dinner. So let's get down to why we're all here -- the food. I passed on an appetizer (saving room for dessert), but I tried the quail and the tea smoked duck my parents got, and they were both quite good. It was the entree where I was really blown away, however. I loooove duck, but a lot of restaurants tend to load it up with overly sweet sauces and some sort of weird grain (quinoa, forbidden black rice, etc.). This was a gorgeous whole duck breast with crispy skin, fat nicely rendered off, with a Door County cherry sauce that added just enough sweetness without going overboard. There was also a small portion of essentially scalloped potatoes (but French, so a fancy name), thin French green beans, and one carrot. The vegetables were just the right addition (especially with the richness of the duck), and the plate as a whole was a good portion size. Not crazy huge, but not the "gee, I paid how much for this??" tiny variety. Really, this is the best duck I can remember ever eating, and I'll be judging future duck by this one. For dessert, I had creme brulee. The top was perfectly crunchy, the custard was beautifully smooth, and it had some nice berries and fresh whipped cream with it. Service throughout the meal was good -- but again, not fast. This isn't the kind of place to come to on your way to a movie, for instance. For our party of 4, including 3 appetizers, entrees and desserts all around, coffee for 3, and a bottle of wine, I believe the bill was around $240 before tip. So not the kind of place you'd go every week, but for a special occasion, this is just the ticket. They also have an app with some kind of loyalty program, so you can get some money off if you use that. I'd love to go back and try some other things (or just have that duck again!). read more

My husband and I went to Pastiche tonight with another couple. Everything about the experience was wonderful. The food was delicious. We enjoyed warm bread and butter before our meal arrived. My husband had the filet with foie gras. The beef was delicious and the sauce was so tasty! I had pan-fried walleye - the best I've ever had - in a light lemon butter sauce. The fish came with Dauphinoise potatoes, which were delicate and creamy, and perfectly steamed green beans. Our friends had halibut with caper sauce and salmon. They loved their meals as well. We ordered baked Alaska to share. The dessert was beautiful to look at, and the meringue was smooth and creamy but not sickly sweet. Our server was very attentive. He was knowledgeable about the menu, made helpful recommendations, and kept our glasses full. The chef came to our table to greet us and to ask how we were enjoying our meals. He really seemed to care about ensuring we had a nice experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back. read more

Almost felt like walking into a warm and inviting private home. The front bar area is very romantic for a drink or even dinner. There are booths and tables in the bar area. We celebrated a birthday in the formal dining room and enjoyed cocktails and wine before ordering our dinners. My first course was a very nice mixed green salad . The fresh baked bread was a nice touch too. The main course selections vary from beautiful fish choices to meat to satisfy any craving for a meatitarian. Yes I did make up that word. My choice was the fresh skate fish. I know I can get it fresh here and that's why I won't order it anywhere else. My date ordered a scrumptious meat dish and enjoyed it thoroughly. I was so lost in my meal, I don't know if he had lamb or beef. After dinner we ordered desert and loved every bite. I'm returning for another taste of the fish before it gets crowded for the holidays. read more

I am thoroughly impressed with the new Pastiche location. I appreciate a restaurant that gives you a good value, regardless of price point. Pastiche absolutely delivers French bistro fare and libations at a very reasonable price. My measuring stick for French food is always the cassoulet, a rustic, hearty peasant dish made with beans, duck, sausage and sometimes lamb. When the temperatures drop below freezing, there's nothing better than a big bowl of cassoulet, which I suppose the uninitiated could call a cross between a stew and a casserole. Pastiche's cassoulet is outstanding, and at their current prices, is an absolute value. I found their service to be warm and genuine. I like that their wine list had a wide range of prices, from $20s a bottle to $200s a bottle. There's definitely a bottle for most budgets here. North Shore diners will certainly appreciate having excellent French food so close to home. Highly recommend! read more

I was quite impressed with dinner at Pastiche yersterday evening. The restaurant was not well patronized probably due to the Green BY Packers game on the same evening. We were warmly welcomed by the host and our server Joe who was very friendly and made some nice suggestions to start of our evening. We started with the Pastiche French onion soup which was very good but maybe a little too heavy on the bread croutons and cheese and perhaps not enough broth which would have been altogether a lot more enjoyable on this rainy and gloomy night. We also shared a charcuterie platter which was decent and had a variety of delicacies including rillette, prosciutto, pate and salami. For entrees, my dinner companion had the striper bass which he liked very much and I enjoyed the duck breast which was served with wonderful Dauphinoise potatoes, harricots verts and cherries. The duck breast was cooked to perfection. For dessert, I tried the apple tarte tatin which was okay but would have been better if served warm. To finalize the evening I had a shot of espresso which was $ 5.00 to my dismay. I think it is the first time that I pay $ 5.00 for an espresso. I won't be caught doing that again. Overall, Pastiche offered a very pleasant evening. The food was very very good and the duck breast was probably the best I have ever had. A winner in my book, but do ask that the tart tatin be served warm and think twice before ordering espresso at the end of your meal, but now you know it is expensive. Our bill came to $ 111 with three glasses of wine total. read more

The serving staff here was very nice but it could not make up for the very poor food quality and odd practices. First the food. I chose the special Striper fish and my wife chose the salmon. Both had a fishy taste as though they were not very fresh. Also, the presentation was not executed well. The sauce was in a big lump on the salmon and it drenched the Striper. As for the odd practice, my wife ordered the salmon well done. The staff informed us that the kitchen was not taking special orders. That took us by surprise since temperature is not generally considered a special order. After asking the kitchen, the staff said that they would accommodate the request. My wife did not eat the fish at all because of the taste. The restaurant generously removed the fish from the check. However, to our surprise, there was a special order charge of $2. When we asked what it was for, we were shocked to learn that it was for cooking the salmon well done. This is the first I heard of this practice. I hope to never experience it again and I certainly will never put myself in a situation to experience it at Pastiche. read more

I was very much looking forward to this new location being so close to me but I was so disappointed. I had been to the Bayview location and loved everything about it, the food especially. For being a Wednesday night they were not extremely busy where I can see having issues arise. My husband and I had a 6:15 dinner reservation which we were immediately seated, ordered drinks and looked over the menu. From the time we placed our order, we didn't see our appetizer for a good hour. Soup and salad came out quickly after but then our entrees took at least another half an hour. After waiting for an hour and a half for our entrees to have mine come out cold and my husbands foie gras come out raw and his steak cold was not the dinner experience we had planned on. Our server Phillip was very sorry. We understood it was not his fault and do not blame the service but the kitchen needs some work. I really hope they can get on track, it's a great addition to the community. read more

Great restaurant. Went there on New Year's Eve in a party of 5. Service was great, a bit slow, but we didn't mind as it was a relaxed atmosphere. Drinks were good, wine was great. Flounder, swordfish,,trout, and chicken entrees were all hits. Good portions on the protein but veggies-potatoes and acorn squash were small-but delicious Underrated restaurant with reasonable prices and large selection to choose from. Excellent ratatouille, the best I've ever had. Same goes for the scallops with mushroom risotto, which my wife ordered. I do a lot of cooking so I'm picky when we dine out, especially when it comes to seafood. Very tasty food, nice ambience and friendly staff. One small nitpick, the bread served included French bread and croissant slices. The croissant was SO good, but the basket had only 2 bite size pieces. We asked for more so all 3 of us could try some and they did bring a whole other basket with more of each. I hope in the future they just bring at least one slice of each for everyone, that would make sense to me. Told you it was a tiny complaint lol. They have several entre and wine specials on chalkboards throughout the dining area. Forgot exactly what we ordered, since it was two weeks ago, but everything was very good! read more

Group of 6 just had dinner at Pastiche in Brown Deer last night. It wasn't that busy but still took 2 1/2 hours for our dinner. Really bad service. Our waitress brought the wrong wine and didn't bring the correct one until I reminded her. All of our meals took a long time but the duck breast that one person ordered didn't come until after the other 5 of us were done eating. Waitress told us the duck breast takes longer to cook. The chef later told us that the waitress ordered the chicken breast by mistake. After lousy service they still tacked on an 18% service charge. We used to like Pastiche when it was on Kinnickinnic Ave. It's sad to see the service go downhill so badly. read more

We had a pretty disappointing brunch here on Mother's Day. The service was honestly some of the worst I've had in a while. There were plenty of servers and it wasn't that busy, so I'm not sure what the issue was besides just a total lack of interest in providing decent service. Our server took forever to do everything: ask us our drink order, being our drinks, take our order, serve our food. It took probably 15-20 minutes between each of those steps, and longer to get the food. When our food came, the server did not bring butter for the toast, and we realized there was no salt and pepper on the table. Our server disappeared at that point, and we had to flag down someone else to bring us those basic items. My mom ordered coffee at one point, and the server just never brought it. Again, she had to flag down someone else to bring it. The server never brought it, mentioned it, or put it on our bill, so clearly she just completely forgot. As for the food, that was the only positive. My mom and daughter both ordered eggs Benedict, which they both seemed to enjoy, although my mom thought it was bizarre to use sliced ham rather than the traditional Canadian bacon. I ordered the steak and eggs. The flavor of the steak was honestly great, but it was slightly over cooked and had tons of fatty parts. We went here for Mother's Day brunch a couple of years ago and had a totally different experience, so it seems to have gone downhill since then. This was our first time out together since covid, and we were really looking forward to it, but it just wasn't that great of an experience. read more

Had a horrible experience last night at the new Pastiche last night. The Pastiche in Bay View used to be great! I have Celiacs Disease, so I cannot eat gluten. I asked a server, (not our own), if there was a gluten free menu. He said : "the ratatouille, the steak frites, (and a chicken dish that I can't remember)" he said they put flour in all sauces to prevent sticking to the pan, which means to me, the chefs aren't really trained chefs. I saw a duck breast with a door county cherry sauce and asked if they could just heat the cherries and finish them with butter (because this is a classic dish that Brian makes frequently.) Our waitress went and asked the kitchen , and they agreed. When our meal was served, I had a piece of rubbery duck breast, no sauce, a few green beans and a single baby carrot. When I questioned the waitress, she said the chefs couldn't make the sauce, after all. The chef had been walking around talking to patrons, so I asked to speak with him. He told me that maybe if I had come on a less busy night, they might have been able to accommodate me, but not on a busy Friday night. (We were the last costumers to arrive, having made reservations for 8:30.) If they were so busy, how could the chef/owner be out schmoozing with the customers? We were the last customers to leave, not because we wanted to stay there any longer than necessary, but one of our party was still eating. The other person in our party didn't eat her meal because she didn't like it (a veal chop swimming in a brown gravy reminiscent of the gravy that Chinese restaurants pour over egg fu young.) Apparently, they wanted us to leave because suddenly very loud pop music was being played. All in all a very disappointing experience. The bill was close to $300.00. I've never written a review before. But tonight I felt I had to. Tonight was our second experience at Pastiche in Brown Deer. The first time two months ago the food was great. Service not so much. The wait staff and other people were personable and fun, it was the timing. We where not in a hurry, but an hour and a quarter between our soup and main course? I ordered the special, only to be told they were out. Don't tell me about something that's not available. For a 8:00pm reservation we were served our main course at 9:45! That's just too long between soup and main course. Tonight we had 7:00pm res. They brought our drink orders and salads appropriately. The beet salads were excellent. As were the martinis, best dirty martini I've had since NSB shut down. Ok it's 8:00 and the waitresses comes and apologized for the slow service. We had more drinks. At 9:45 we found our waitress and offer to pay for what we'd had consumed. She said not to worry she'd take care of it, the kitchen lost our ticket. She was in tears and apologizing. I did tell her we didn't blame her and it's was the same thing that happen last time we were here at Pastiche, only this time was even longer. I don't know if I will ever return. read more

This evening we dined at Pastiche celebrating our anniversary. Our two children tried to surprise us by each contacting the restaurant, one purchasing wine for the table and the other giving his credit card to purchase our dinner. None of this took place. We came home and both kids called inquiring how our dinner was and waiting for us to thank them for the kind gestures. However, they had to spoil the surprise and tell us what they attempted to do. My daughter called the restaurant to question things and the manager then called us to say they would zero our credit card out. I thought that was in good faith considering what had happened. Then I received another call from the manager stating that he was going to put the entire tab on our son's card and charged our daughter for the two drinks we had. Really..... how incredibly sad that then they just wanted to charge the kids. I think after all that Pastiche you should have just ate two dinners. Horrible that all this had to happen and Pastiche can't own their mistakes. We will not dine here again. read more

Unhappily, I am posting this review, especially because this is a fine family restaurant and one that we have enjoyed many times. We visit every time we visit from out of town. I called Pastiche 2 days before Mother's day 2021 to make sure I understood how to order and get something delivered on Mother's Day. Mary told me Pastiche wasn't doing deliveries for Mother's Day and they were fully booked. Then, I asked about Saturday evening and was told they don't do advanced orders. She said I could order same day and call Saturday using Menufy the service they used. I told my 95 year old mother who lives nearby and she was delighted since we were not able to visit. Well as I learned, Michael, the owner decided Saturday morning and told his wife Mary that Pastiche was not doing deliveries. I tried to order online at 5pm, but was unsuccessful. So I called just after 5pm and spoke with Mary. I explained the situation and appealed to her. She said sorry and denied my request and wouldn't try to work out a solution even though she told me the day before that I could order. She looked for Michael. She saw him talking with a table (Yes, it's so nice when he does his rounds as we have experienced multiple times). I was excited that she might ask Michael. Instead, Mary, then felt a little agitated and became impatient. She said the online system was already shut off. Nothing she could do. I asked about DoorDash or a taxi. DoorDash is not possible. Shut off already. I said I could call a cab/taxi. She must have felt I was keeping her on the phone too long, and although she felt slight empathy for me and my 95 year old mother, she said she had to go and Hung Up the phone. No thank you..no apology...no comment nothing. There were no raised voices between us, nothing escalated. I was holding the phone thinking. Mary seemed like she decided that tough luck needed to be served up at Pastiche. Very disappointed that Mary did not to try to help more; take responsibility for unintended events; explain and ask Michael again or even show some patience to try to work something out as an exception or just let my disappointment down. Continues to be an ideal for what an excellent restaurant should be. All four of us had outstanding starters and main dishes (flounder, lamb, veal, ratatouille). Perfect sized portions that are fresh, well thought out, and well prepared. We have eaten often at the Bay View location and the new spot is just as excellent as the original. The new atmosphere has some breathing room but a great atmosphere. Our server, Jennifer, was flawless. Friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. It is a gift that Pastiche will hopefully hit a new market outside of Bay View. Not to be passed up on. Can't recommend enough for a great meal with prices that are rather reasonable for the high quality. read more

I was so excited to have my birthday celebration at Pastiche tonight. It was my first visit and most likely my last. We had a 6:30 reservation and our dinners were served at 8:15. Service was inattentive. The table next to us arrived after we did and left when we were just getting our soup and salads.Drinks & food were slow. One of the entrees was barely warm. Caesar salad bland. We asked for bread because we noticed others had bread on their tables.One of the forks was dirty. I must say the food was great but not worth the wait. I was very excited to try a "local" French restaurant. My companion had chosen her birthday dinner with family here and thought it would be a nice lunch spot. We both ordered the lamb shank "special" today. It was advertised served ON risotto which was the main draw for me. Although the taste was fine I expected more than just a tablespoon served on the side. Granted, portion sizes in the US are generally way too big but I actually left not being satisfied. Probably because I opted not to fill up on bread while waiting for the meal. The chef coming out to see if the tables enjoyed their meals is a nice touch. However I would have to say that the service in general is lacking. There were three servers standing at the coffee bar behind us yet we had A hard time making eye contact to ask to have our water refilled. Also, we waited 40 minutes for our plates. I am OK with a leisurely lunch however...... It wasn't that busy and we expected the lamb shanks (which our server said were roasted for hours) to be ready. My friend then noted that it also been in excruciating wait for their meals when she was there the first time.... maybe that was because they were busy that night. Really liked their Saturday prime rib special. A lot of restaurants tend to over cook it but here it was a perfect medium rare. Escargot and Oysters were also very good. I used to frequent this place when it was in Bay View but was often hard to get a table due to the small size. Since they've opened this location it's never been a problem. I am very disappointed by Pastiche. The River Lane was successful for 30 + years and Pastiche was successful in their BayView location. You walk in and it smells old and musty because they didn't bother to redecorate. They should have ripped out all the rugs and had a nice wood floor. They should have repainted and replaced the old tables with something more modern or at least different. The feeling is one of sadness, desperation, and despair. There is no excuse for this because the food is good. They will not make it and it's because they didn't bother to try hard enough to really make it their own!! read more

For more than 20 years my wife and I would make the hour drive from our home to enjoy some of the best seafood that MKE had to offer. Whether it was Carla or Jo Linda or Mike running the kitchen the outcome was always spot on. Want to change the preparation? No problem. Want to change the saucing? No problem. Want to use a credit card? No problem. Our one visit to Pastiche to see what they did to the building and to the food was more than enough. Never again. A totally disappointing experience. read more

We had dinner at Pastiche this evening. It was a rather sad and unpleasant experience. The decor, food and service were all mediocre (at best). We had the steak frites - very tough, dry meat with an abundance of gristle - and the ratatouille (the ONLY vegetable friendly option on the menu and no, the kitchen will not consider doing anything that is not strictly as listed on the menu; because, regardless of what you - the dining public and customer - might want, the "chef doesn't make changes"). The price for two rather ordinary entrees, two very basic salads, one glass of beer and a glass of lemonade was $72 with the 15% gratuity. We used to dine at the Pastiche on the south side and were pleased to learn that this restaurant would open near-to-home in the north shore. But we're not pleased now and won't be back. read more

Had high hopes for the new Pastiche but had a bummer of an evening. They've invested zero in the ambience. No coziness or even identity to the place. Service was on the slow side but the real letdown was the meal. Simple steak frites was tough/tasteless and the special (forgot what it was, my wife had it) was unremarkable. Going to give it a few months and try one more time, but it will need to improve to survive. read more

Ok, so the person writing this review tends to be very picky and loves to tear a place apart. However, I feel I have to defend this restaurant, I have dine at the one on the south side and it has the feel that you found a hidden gem.. something secret and amazing.. this has the feel of a high end restaurant and it was supposed to.. it does not feel like a hidden gem, but it is an amazing place to eat. The staff was courteous fun and knowledgeable. The food was not as good as the one on the south side.. but the difference was amazing versus heavenly. I had the duck and it was seasoned perfect, cooked perfect, it was amazing food. So, I recommend this to anyone that wants a great night and fine food. For those who want the service to bring you food quickly, please go to the Wendy's down the street. If you can't read that you get a carrot and not a bunch of carrots, that is your problem. And they do talk about substitutions and changes on the menu... go ahead give it a read. Loved my dinner and my night!! read more

Our dishes were great but the unbelievably slow food delivery, and lack of explanation or real concern by staff, made our evening a bit of a downer. It started with a mix-up over drinks we received that we couldn't resolve for 10 minutes because we couldn't find our waitress. We ordered an appetizer and bread, and that took at least 30 minutes to arrive. After we ordered our main courses, another wait of at least half an hour ensued. Then, only two of our four main course orders arrived. We waited maybe 20 more minutes for our other two meals. No apology or concern from the hostess (or owner?) after she asked about our meals and we told her. The waitress was hustling (and friendly), but the place wasn't super packed, so we assumed they were drastically understaffed and had kitchen problems or both. We dropped around $200, and we expected better. As good as the food was, the service problems will stick out in our minds more. read more
