I went here for the first time with a girlfriend and it was a great little place to pop into for a glass of wine and a nice ambience. It has a rustic feel, we snagged some of their casual comfy chairs which were perfect to catch up in. The self-pour style of serving was fun to try different wines, although in my opinion I thought they had kind of a random selection of options. I would love it if they would offer some more international varieties like Tempranillo, Bordeaux and Chianti. We didn't have any food but I believe they offered some snacks (olives, cheese, etc.) The lady working there was really sweet and helpful, explaining the process and helping give us recommendations for her favorites/crowd pleasers. Pretty great wine and food. Once people started to show up though, the service went downhill a bit. An employee even commented they were so surprised so many people were working that night but there was only one server out. The happy hour special was great - try the ricotta flatbread! Adding some menus since they don't have any on their website. Definitely worth the try and seems like a great way to try some more expensive wines that you maybe don't want to commit to with a whole bottle or even a glass. Check it out!! read more

This place is the bees knees! Wife and I go to the Hollander next store all the time and we're looking for a new place to go to date night. We found the right place! They have the option to order wine from their bar tender, or...self serve machines! Awesome idea. They give you a card, you put it in the machine, it pours your wine, and charges the card they gave you. When you are done, you give them the card and pay what you drank! We also ordered some food and it really was amazing. We had a special flatbread and my god, it was so good. The service was super good and all employees were were wearing masks and following distancing guidelines. This place is perfect for a date night or a night out with friends. My wife and I aren't really oenophiles but we took my MIL and aunt-in-law here when they were in town for a visit. Super friendly place with a very chill atmosphere. Kinda hard to explain but once you decide on a wine, it's dispensed with a sorta hotel room key card via an elaborate wine vending machine. There's also beer and a cocktail of the month for non-wine drinkers. Limited food menu if you want a snack- the fancy popcorn was popular. They also have a wine club where you can pick up bottles- I don't know the details but we saw a lot of people come in to retrieve theirs. Clean bathrooms. Parking can be a bit elusive. read more

An evening spent at The Ruby Tap is an evening well spent. They have a really fun concept where you're able to self-serve wine out of their tap machines. This makes it truly an experience, instead of just a normal bar. You're able to select different sizes, allowing you to enjoy a full a glass or try many small samples. I enjoyed leisurely sampling many wines while relaxing on their outdoor patio. Great small plates and snacks also add to the appeal of The Ruby Tap. I would definitely recommend trying a cheese board here! The one downside is The Ruby Tap is a bit more expensive compared to other wine bars. However, because of their unique concept I think it's well worth it. I'd love to check out some of their weekday wine specials in the future too! read more

My daughter and I had a great time here sampling different wines. While I was initially a bit shocked at the prices of their smallest samples (I made the mistake of comparing the experience to flights at personally owned vineyards), I quickly learned the wines at Ruby Tap are far superior and worth the price. The folks that opened The Ruby Tap of Wauwatosa have spun their magic again, this time in Mequon. Like the original, The Ruby Tap offers bottle wines on tap ranging from light whites to bold reds. I'd say there are roughly twenty wines available on the tap system. And in case nothing in the bottle cooler piques your interest, there are another six on tap at the bar: three whites and three reds. A few things are notably different than the Wauwatosa Ruby Tap: there is beer on tap, two of them with a rotating selection; flat bread pizzas are available; and there is a cocktail on tap. Yep, that's right... a cocktail on tap! (File this under "The Last Thing I Should Ever have in My House") In addition to the flat breads, the same selection of fine cheeses and charcuterie is available. And lest you worry that you'll miss the big game, fear not, there is an HD TV behind the bar and there are more seats at the bar than the original, so if you plan ahead, you can assure yourself a seat. (The Ruby Tap should not be confused as a sports bar--the TV is normally off--but most big Wisconsin sports teams games are televised. It's where we watched the Bucks knock off the 24-0 Golden State Warriors!) If you like the original, you'll love the new Ruby Tap. The greatest news was when I hard about Ruby Tap moving to Mequon. I use to frequent the tosa location, and that was a drive, but well worth it. I love the new location in Mequon. I am a huge wine fan, and nothing beats this place. I recently stopped in on a Saturday night, and it was so cool to see people out and about in Mequon. The idea of pouring your own glass of wine always surprises people. The concept that you go up to a machine and can pick your own pour of wine is wild. I love taking friends from out of town. I do not know much about wine-- so this place is ideal! You get a card and can select a "taste" a small glass or a big ole' pour in various wines in various price ranges! Its really fun because I'd be hesitatant (as someone less than knowledgable about wine!) to order something that is $20+ a glass.. but for $5-6 i'd order a small pour to try it! They have well written descriptions right below each wine too which were very helpful! The atmosphere is chic and casual but still upscale enough to go for a swanky night out if you like. No one associated with this place seems to have any true wine knowledge. When I go to a wine bar I like to have questions concerning types of wine, vintages and grapes etc answered by someone that is as knowledgeable as a certified sommelier. When the whole premise for sales/ business is wine, the owners and staff should know what they're talking about. This place is just a wine bar facade. I have been here about four times now. First off, the design is outstanding. I love the modern/warm feel here. The seating arrangements are really nice, and there's enough room to seat a large group, or enjoy a small intimate area for two. Every time I've been here, the staff has been super friendly and helpful. Everyone who works here really knows their stuff! I haven't tried any of their food yet because I normally eat at Cafe Hollander before I stop, but will try to make a point of it in the near future. They do have a wide range of wines and prices. While sometimes it can tend to get pricey, I really have no problem with spending the money here for a couple of reasons. First, you get the opportunity to try a lot of higher-end wines without having to spend a fortune for the entire bottle. Second, this is a high quality place, and you get what you pay for. Just had a great treat Ruby Tap Mequon location. Owners were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. We ordered the cheese tray and it was great. The wines on tap are plentiful despite the fact we just order a bottle and paid the minimal $10 corking fee. The men also had a couple good beers on tap. I have never heard of a restaurant or bar, in my life, who charges you to open a bottle of THEIR wine... The ruby tap's Thursday special was A "no corking fee" lol... What?? ITS THEIR BOTTLE! I was astounded at the arrogance. And, we wanted a "self serve" 6 ounce pour, but it was not available in any of the wines we wanted... We asked, and they just said, no, you can't have that one. Then what? Pay more for a 3 ounce? And, the staff was rude... The iPad tip situation, made my father really uncomfortable, as they did NOTHING but be rude to us.. Went to the ruby tap for a few drinks with the family tonight. Thursday's deal is "no corking fee"....yes they normally charge you a fee to open a bottle you bought from them. When it comes to the wine you have an option to chose from three sizes of wine.... However, if there is not enough left in the bottle for say a six ounce then either you have to get a 3oz or a different wine they won't open a new bottle and pour the extra because it's all exact pours.It is also annoying to have someone hover over you at all times but without the hovering you may not actually get the wine machine to work correctly. Atmosphere inside the place is nice other than the fact you are either looking at a parking lot or a busy street. If I could give this a zero star I would! read more

On March 18, I had my first visit to the Ruby Tap in Mequon. I was there with my wife and my family. I got a glass of Chardonnay for my wife. When I went back to for a second glass for myself, it would not pour any wine. I tried to pour a full glass of another white wine. It also would not pour. What I find out is that they have three sizes that you can pour. Small, medium and large. Both of the white wines that I had chosen only had enough wine in them to pour the small glass which is equivalent to just a taste. When I talk to the staff, they said it's their policy not to replace the wine until it is completely empty. When I asked if I was supposed to just keep taking small tastes of wine until the bottle was empty, I was informed that's what most customers do. No effort by the staff was made to accommodate me or actually pour me a full glass of wine. After I complained, the staff member walked back to her register and started talking with the other people working there. I never did have a full glass of wine. I would not recommend this establishment. If you want to drink overpriced wine, I would suggest just buying a bottle yourself. read more
