Another amazing dinner tonight! My friend started with the app special Warmed Watercress and Goat Cheese dip with crostini. I had the Pastiche Onion Soup and added the Seared Foie Gras app special. I had the Grilled Mahi Mahi with sweet corn risotto and asparagus and added a side of dauphinois potatoes, and my friend had the East Coast Flounder "Belle Meiniere." We shared bites, and every dish was on point! We were too full for dessert, and my friend ordered a Lemon Tart to-go. Unreal - ruined date night. Arrived early, realized they were busy (always a good sign), sat at the bar and had great drinks and had good drinks and good vibe. Sat down at 6:45, 30 mins for the salad and frites to arrive, sat for another 45 mins waiting for our entries. Waitresses was great, everyone running around, kitchen was clearly screwed. People who sat down long after us getting full meals, paying and leaving. After 1:15 mins waiting we finally just paid for the drinks and apps and GTFO. Service was pretty good but maybe don't sell the special fish of the day to a party of 5 without indicating there is only one portion left. 4 out of 5 planned to order the salmon but 3 of us needed to pivot, most chose sea bass. The sea bass looked and tasted liked sautéed white fish, not the buttery juicy sea bass, with thicker pieces that I'm used to. Escargot was not something I wanted but I enjoyed watching my dad and in laws try to use the funny utensils to get at the snail meat. My mom and I were escargnogo. read more

My wife, friends, and I lament that we have to go downtown to Safina, Lupi & Iris, Bacchus, Lake Park, Carnecore, Goodkind, Room Service, Saffron, and the like to get top-notch food. We were very pleased to see that Pastiche is in this league. Four diners: Warm, tasty French bread was excellent. Oysters Rockefeller - the best I've ever had (and often). The onion tart was excellent, as was the delicately fried calamari steak with an interesting sauce. Two had duck with Wisconsin cherry sauce: Outstanding, as were the dauphinoise potatoes. The pepper-crusted sirloin was an excellent cut and a generous portion. Crème brulee was superb, loaded with berries and crème fraiche. Ice cream dessert drinks were great, as was the wine list. And Chef Michael paid a table visit to confirm all was perfect. Prices are reasonable, wine list excellent. Alexa, our server, was fantastic. When I was skeptical that duck breast is often (elsewhere) overcooked and dry, she said, "If you don't like it, I will take it back." Now that's confidence. Our reservation was at 6, Alexa warned us that the kitchen was busy and to place our app orders early (the place was full on a Saturday). But another bonus: We stayed till 9, we were not hurried along, as many other places do. Kudos! We had not been to Pastiche in years after a so-so crab special in 2020, but it is clearly the only five-star restaurant on the north shore. We will be back soon. read more

Here's how I would sum up my experience at Pastiche: everything was fine but nothing was great. The basket of bread that was brought out was not warm and the butter was frozen solid. We repeatedly had to ask to have water and drinks refilled. My "filet with frites" was a giant pile of French fries with a filet the size of a half dollar coin. The food (except for dessert) had no presentation to it at all. Then my bill got a bit screwed up at the end. Staff was pleasant but not overly friendly or attentive. Overall, nothing was terrible, but nothing was great either. It was an average and unmemorable experience, which is definitely not what I had expected going in. This is a solid 3.0 to 3.5-star restaurant (which is only disappointing when you expected a 4.5-star+ experience, and food is priced accordingly). read more

First visit, great building, fun interior. Nice wine choices with fair pricing-this was a Wednesday so our bottle was half off (I want to emphasize fair pricing!). Three of us, one had steak frites, cooked perfectly with a mound of fries. Other had a fish and I had a chicken entree with frites! All three were exceptional, cooked perfectly and served nicely hot. Exceeded expectations. Fine dining that hits the bar for quality. Friendly staff, quality & innovative food, delicious bites. The pear martini was excellent! A "non-standard" flavor that was appreciated. The butternut squash soup was complex and yummy. Definitely order the escargot - the garlicky buttery toast points starred as much as the snails did! The grilled branzino with mediterranean toppings made me want to lick my plate. I savored every perfectly cooked bite. Ended with the lemon tart - piles of meringue on a perfect lemon curd with an unexpected crisp crust. Super ending to a spectacular meal. I have been coming here for several years and the service and food have been consistently amazing. They have a great wine list with a low markup- MAJOR plus, and spice from local suppliers which is huge in my book. Desserts are made by the owner, not prepackaged stuff from some ubiquitous wholesale pastry company. Prices are reasonable for the fantastic food. The menu doesn't change much which is both good because I like knowing my favorite dishes will be there anytime I go. They also have great specials, so it's easy to change it up if the mood takes me. All in all, a solid choice for a special occasion or romantic dinner. Not stuffy, very laid back atmosphere (reminds me of a supper club) and gracious staff. read more

I've moved to the Brown Deer area for about three months and finally got a chance to check out this hidden gem in our neighborhood. From the reviews and comments, I decided to try out their brunch first. They only offer Sunday brunch from 10-1 and for other days they offer fine dining during dinner hours. Prices are a bit above average since it is an upscale French restaurant. I was first impressed by the decorations and design of the inner building. It is very classy. Also the services were very good. We ordered the Benedict and the duck biscuit for our brunch. The Benedict were very tasty. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce were very homemade in the way that it was a bit sour than the standard ones, which I like! I guess from now on I will add a bit more lemon/lime into my hollandaise sauce as well! Duck biscuit was very flavorful - tender inside and crispy on the outside. The duck meat was stuffed in the biscuit and they fit so perfectly. It was a bit too salty for me, but I still consider it really good! Overall I would say the brunch were a really nice experience. Pastiche Bistro in Brown Deer is a fine dining experience and a great establishment. They do not disappoint in the food they serve and take great care in their menu, presentation and quality of each dish. As with any fine dining there are pros and cons for having to uphold a reputation as the greater and better restaurants in the southeast of Wisconsin, especially Brown Deer all the way to Milwaukee. The ambience is wonderful and the décor fits well with the theme of the building and inside the building. You are welcomed with a nice cozy entrance with space big enough to comfortably fit about 10 guests to gather and wait before being seated at a tablet or the bar. The bar is directly next to the entrance which makes it convenient and great for guests that interested in their wine, cocktails, beer and menu while maintaining great space for guests and staff. Our group arrived earlier than expected to our designated time for our table and lucky we were able to find seats at the bar for a few drinks. A few minutes before our time slot we went to the host and they guided us through the dining hall to our table of 6. We took a look at the menu and proceeded to order another round of drinks first and appetizers. I had ordered the 3 half shell oysters and frog legs batter in beer batter for an appetizer and then the lamb rack for dinner. As someone who has tasted fresh oysters from the west coast and east coast, the oysters at Pastiche Bistro are limited and few in selection. It would be a wonderful addition if they were able to include where their oysters are from, regardless I enjoyed their oysters for what they could serve. The frog legs that I was serve were cooked well though I should have expected that most or all food that is beer battered and deep fried would be ok or good regardless. The beer batter was not overly layered or oily as other places and still held a crunch. The frog legs were tender and moist which was delightful. If you have never had frog legs before, just like how everyone describes it, tastes much like chicken. The main dish was the star of the show and the reason for dining at Pastiche Bistro. The Lamb Rack was cook beautifully with a red wine reduce demi glace with steam carrots and potatoes. The first thing I tested was the demi glace and wow it was definitely bold, strong and powerful. I cut into the lamb and the lamb is cooked perfectly from the center to the outside, I tasted the lamb first, smooth soft tender and then I dipped the lamb into the demi glace and my mouth was bursting in flavor. I cut each lamb chop and slowly took my time to enjoy every bite I could. Overall I finished my dinner satisfied. Unfortunately for the cons of a fine dining establishment, our server probably newly trained (just recently open because of Covid) and probably never had the chance to taste any of the dishes that she served because she was definitely following a script for letting the guests know about the menu, I could be wrong. As a fine dining establish it is important for all staff to have tried the menu to understand the dishes to be able to provide recommendations to the guests. Our dishes also took a very long time to arrive, longer than one and half hours, with no updates being provide. I do not know if they were short staffed on the kitchen side or what took a long time to prepare dishes. I understand that it takes time to make a fine dining dish, but the fact cannot be overlooked that the dishes took too long. Quick summary, arrived for 7:15pm table for 6 people, order drinks that were great, appetizers that were good, dinner that was beautiful and awesome, wait times for everything long. First time dinning here tonight. It was the first time since living in Wisconsin , that I experience an exceptional meal. The server Kimme was proper and polite, even marked the table with flatware for every course. Excellent wine selections. Calamari steak seemed to be classic 3 step breaded process with a touch of Parmesan may? With a perfect Beurre blanc. Oyster Rockefeller topping was creamy and Smokey with a hint of anise. Steak Au Prouivre was perfectly cooked, great medley of peppercorns, and the sauce was like a merchant wine sauce and an onion Demi glacé had a love child. The scallops and prawns were perfect bronze, atop an earthy risotto. Omg ! This restaurant gives me hope in what I thought was gastromique wasteland. I went there for a second time even though the owner "Mike" responded to my negative review and told me never to come back...I wanted to be fair and give the restaurant a second chance. The ambiance in the restaurant is very lovely, but I was facing the coffee maker and cupboards so probably not the best. It should be the absolute last place they seat people. Arrived on time at 5 , ordered drinks and dinner.We finished dinner and we're offered dessert which we declined but 2 of us opted for one more glass of wine. Before we finished the hostess and owner swooped in and grabbed one of the wine glasses; still 1/3rd full and asked us to leave; no, told us to leave "we need the table". No other explanation, no "please, we're very busy". No politeness in any way, just a crude, rude dismissal as if we were in an Army chow line. we were there for just about 2 hours, spent over $300 for 4 people (not including tip). I didn't know Pastiche was a fast food restaurant. We'll never go there again and the other owner, her husband, should fire her! what a rude ...&@?#% Ruined the evening and reinforced the reputation of we being "Ugly Americans" to our visiting overseas friends !! read more

All you can say is wow, they know what they're doing here. You can order anything off the menu and never be disappointed. Pair it with some of the best wines is the area. I had white fish on a recent visit and it was flakey firm delicious. Sides and pairings worked well. Fresh taps or bottled beer too. You can also have the bar create pretty much whatever suits you. Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If you like dining out you need to try Pastiche. I've been here several times over the years. Just call and reserve a table. Very polite service from the young people working there and a hard working bartender. The meals were disappointing but maybe I had my hopes up. I got the walleye and it was flour crusted with colored fingerling potatoes from Sendiks and buttery green beans (which was too much butter). My husband got the chicken with morel mushroom sauce and the sauce had too much bullion or Knorrs. If there were morels, they were ruined. The chicken was ok but not marvelous. This is one of our favorite restaurants. Seemed a likely choice to dine with friends who have never been here before. And it was our friend's birthday! Once we got our cocktails, which seemed to take a long time...we put in our order. After our second cocktail still no food and our waitress vanished. Clearly something was wrong with the service and/or the kitchen. We had to ask the busboy if we could get some bread or rolls. We observed other people getting their dinners who came in after us. It was an hour and a half before we were served. Our waitress Never apologized for the delay or offered any explanation for the wait. Here's the kicker-- a 18% gratuity is added for party of 6 or more---therefore, the waitress got a very nice tip for lousy service. Now for the food, one person's chicken arrived lukewarm. She opted to not send back for obvious reasons. The rest of us were very pleased with our dinners ---the skate, the scallops, the duck, and a steak with delicious frites, but the night was soured by the whole experience. read more

Most everything was good: beet salad; French onion soup; bread service; Bordeaux wine; duck breast; and creme brûlée were all tasty. However, the Chicken and saffron rice were a bit dry and bland. The atmosphere isn't as cozy as the bay view location and the service is still working out the newness, but this spot should settle in nicely and have some longevity- bringing in patrons from the north shore and further west. read more

I was a huge fan of Pastiche when it was located in Bayview. After that location closed they opened up in two other locations, one is in the Metro Hotel downtown and the other is in the old River Lane Inn property in Brown Deer. Often when a small scale restaurant does this, then doubles down by opening two much larger rooms quality and attention to detail slip. Such is the case at this location. First off, this doesn't feel like the Pastiche of old which held you in the space and surrounded you by what felt to be an authentic French bistro environment. Upstairs was a bottle shop. The whole thing was more than just an excellent meal, it was an experience. This location conversely feels cavernous. Much of the same furnishings remain from River Lane and it just doesn't present as a French bistro. Worse, we sat outside on the patio which is populated with completely unadorned plastic furniture. Huge suggestion to the property - take all of that crappy furniture to the nearest dumpster, replace it with iron or wood covered with tablecloths and candles. It's very off-putting to eat a $38 entree on a plastic table. While we're talking prices my feeling is that the menu didn't change much but the prices went up to support these moves. This place used to feel reasonable, now it's downright pricey. The service has also slipped. The food for the most part is still solid. I love the Cassoulet and get it just about every visit. It's still great. The crab cake, while good was served in an absurd manner. The waitress indicated that it came with a side salad. When it came it had about four leaves of lettuce and a cherry tomato rammed under the rim of the dish. Plating matters! Choose a plate that presents the food well and you'll be able to serve an actual side salad. Sloppy. The Caprese salad suffered from the same sloppy presentation - a haphazard arrangement of lettuces, a single tomato slice and a single slice of off-the-shelf mozzarella will cost you around ten bucks. The shrimp and corn bisque was quite nice. So, the food is decent but everything else is sliding, why criticize when the food is good? Because fine dining, particularly at these prices (right up there with the most expensive restaurants in town) is a lot more than tasty food (and in some cases here that was missing too). With some simple management adjustments this place could shine like the old Pastiche. Pastiche, you are better than this. read more
