The space is intimate and at night it does get chilly sitting near the door. Maybe the restaurant can add another heater by the door. The first time we came we had their butternut squash ravioli and it is by far the best we've ever had. Their calamari is always great and the fried lemon adds a nice acidic touch. The aricini is good with its marinara sauce. The creamy pesto linguini was definitely something unexpected as it wasn't overly oily and had freshness to it. It's great to have a casual dinner spot right in the Castro, perfect for dinner before a night out. Went with a group of 6 and had no problem grabbing a table on a Saturday night. The service was quick, food was hot and fresh, and vibe was warm. Nothing flashy, but gets the job done. The chicken marsala was really good, especially with the shaved Brussels sprouts and carrot -- unusual, but delicious. The spaghetti con polpette is one of their signature dishes, and the meatballs are massive and filling. My friend and I grabbed dinner here before a show at the Castro Theatre. I'd made a reservation, but honestly, you probably don't need one. Our server was great! We shared a small Caesar (with extra anchovies), the calamari, and the linguine allo scoglio. Visited last week before heading to trivia. Ordered the Butternut Squash ravioli with pancetta. The pancetta was so deliciously salty and a perfect pairing to the sweetness of the squash. We also got the arancini and the breading on this was just sooo cripsy and lovely and not heavily breaded like a lot of them can be. Service was attentive and fast. The appetizers were a bit lackluster for me. The calamari wasn't crispy at all, but I loved the fried lemon slices and overall flavor. I love Pasta Panino! We have always been treated with the greatest degree of respect, courtesy, and care, and the food is always delicious. Garlic Bread: a classic; did not disappoint. Pro trip: if you are able to hold off from devouring it all (tough to do considering how good it is), save some as a dipping bread for the rest of the meal, to soak up the flavored oil from the ravioli or the dressing from the salad. Delicious. Calamari Fritto Misto: also great! A lightly crispy texture, with delicious tartar sauce. Roasted Beet Arugula Salad: the perfect balance of textures, with soft burrata cheese and sliced fennel. I do wish there was a hint more of the balsamic vinaigrette for extra flavor, but still delectable. Butternut Squash Ravioli: it tastes like Christmas. The hot sage-infused brown butter oil is perfect for dipping (garlic) bread into, and the spinach, peas, and white corn add incredible bursts of flavor and texture. We ended up getting the Linguine, Spaghetti con Polpette, Linguini allo Scoglio, Minestrone, and Bruschetta Ciabatta. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes! I ordered the spaghetti, which I believe is their most popular item, and it was really flavorful and came with very hefty-looking meatballs! If you love spaghetti, I'd definitely recommend. My stomach was not large enough to accommodate my plate so I happily took home leftovers to enjoy the next day. Hi to all my Yelping Community this is an updated version from my last review. I included the food snapshots but I forgot one very sweet and important image of the Panna Cotta...trust me it's delish! I probably ate it first that's probably why I had no image. As you can see all the food I ordered from my shared images...everything was delish...I only got to eat two of the Mushroom Ravioli because my roommate had the munchies at least that's what he told me. Between the food, service and ambiance, this place is 100% a pass. The food alone turned my stomach and I regret asking the server for a suggestion. They said to get the Penne Alla Norcina as they had eaten it that morning.. well, it tasted and looked like it had been sitting out since that morning. Wine came in water glasses, appetizers came out lukewarm--I mean, it definitely could have been better. We sat in an incredibly bright, fluorescent-lit room that felt like a diner. You would never know it was an Italian restaurant passing by. I watched staff ignore folks entering waiting for a seat. A woman actually waited to be seated for a while, sat herself, and then was never greeted. She got up and left 15 minutes later. I sadly wasn't the only person who didn't enjoy their meal, I watched young couples regrettably take another bite. Such a bummer--such a miss. 3 people, $120 after tip. Not worth it. After living in San Francisco for 10 years I think I've found my favorite new pasta. Note this review is based off a delivery order under a mile from Pasta Panino. I ordered the Penne alla Norcina and Polenta Fries. The Italian sausage pasta gives robust umami flavor with the perfect amount of heat. The polenta was crispy outside and tender on the inside. It's served with lemon aioli though would be nice with marina sauce to cut the richness. Delicious but think it would pair better with a protein than a carb-ie pasta. VERY solid inexpensive pasta place to hit up. This place used to be a taco shop - so not fancy inside and pretty bright (so not a romantic date place). The waiter was efficient. We split the Cesear salad and the garlic bread. Both fine - nothing out of the ordinary. I got the pasta al Norcina which was a healthy portion (I took half home) and pretty good. The sauce was a white wine cream sauce - so not as heavy as an alfredo and very tasty - for $17 it was a deal for SF. For my money I prefer Italian Homemade (a few around the city) - but would not be mad at all to go here again. read more

Let me start with a full-on facepalm moment (or maybe a senior moment) ‍ I ordered from Pasta Panino on Uber Eats--completely unaware that they're literally one block from my house. Yes, I paid for delivery on a meal I could've picked up faster on foot. Then the Uber Eats driver never showed up. So I decided to just walk over and grab a new meal myself. Total stroke of luck--the owner happened to be there, and without hesitation, he helped me out and made sure I left taken care of. I still paid for a fresh order and will deal with Uber Eats separately, but the way he handled everything was gracious and genuinely appreciated. And the food? Incredible. I had the Penne Bolognese with added shrimp (and those shrimp were huge) along with the Roasted Brussels Sprouts--crispy, caramelized, and packed with flavor. Everything was hot, fresh, and generous in portion. You really get a lot for the price. Real talk: If you can, go to your favorite local spots directly. Uber Eats charges restaurants 15% to 30% in commission on delivery orders and even 6% just for pickup orders--which eats into their margins fast. And as the customer, you're paying a 2.5% + $0.29 processing fee, plus delivery charges, plus tip. That's a whole lot of money that could be going straight to the people making your food. I didn't realize how much I missed having a casual pasta restaurant in the Castro until I accidentally came upon this spot on 18th Street just this past week. Remember Fuzio on Castro? It wasn't that great, but I was still bummed when it closed over a dozen years ago (...I miss Welcome Home, too). Funny thing was that I wasn't looking to carb up. Nope, I was supposed to get a salad. Yeah, right. It was the prospect of spaghetti & meatballs that really appealed to me. The new owners took over the former El Capitan space. It was OK, but I think the Castro will survive with one less fast food taqueria. When I arrived, the new place was filled with a gregarious vibe, bustling with all the dining tables quite occupied. I managed to secure an empty seat at their small counter. That worked for me because I had the constant attention of my server.
