    Linguini Aloo Scoglio

My friend and I grabbed dinner here before a show at the Castro Theatre. I'd made a reservation, but honestly, you probably don't need one. Our server was great! We shared a small Caesar (with extra anchovies), the calamari, and the linguine allo scoglio. The pasta actually came with corn, which was a first for me--next time I'll definitely ask for it without. The decor is pretty standard, but they have so many tables that it's a bit of a squeeze to walk around.

Difficult for parking so we ordered take out. Big portion. Taste great and they gave us extra cheese on the side without even having to ask.

Date: Tuesday, June 10th, 2025 Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner Delivery Ordered via: DoorDash Time Ordered: around 8:30pm Time Delivered: about 30 mins later Neighborhood Delivered to: Outer Richmond *Garden Salad ($7) *Spaghetti con Polpette ($23) *Caprese Salad ($13) *Garlic Bread ($7.50) - Half Order *Creamy Pesto Linguine ($27) - Add Chicken *Tiramisu ($10) I was craving pasta. After looking around, the hubby and I picked Pasta Panino. Another factor, they had a caprese which I also wanted to try. The salad was a good size, but the very watery. Not sure if it was from the cheese or the tomato, but I ended up having to drain it. Afterwards it wasn't too bad. I did wish the tomato was firmer. The green salad was good. And fairly priced at $7. Out of the two pastas, I liked the linguine the best. It was creamy and comforting. I found the spaghetti lacking in sauce tho, so it was a little dry. A touch bland as well, but we doctored that up with some spices and hot sauce. I didn't try the garlic bread, but the hubs seemed to like it. The tiramisu fulfilled our dessert craving. Not a bad place to grab some Italian. I just wished their caprese wasn't so watery and their spaghetti had more tomato sauce. Other items were solid tho. REVIEW #3786

Lovely little restaurant tucked in the castro. Delicious flavors, and nice big portions. We were craving Italian, and thankfully this place does not disappoint. A very affordable option for Italian food!!

Came here with a friend post soulcycle because we were craving pasta and this place delivered! We got seated at the bar right away, service was great, they kept checking on us to make sure everything was good. We ordered the butternut squash ravioli and the creamy pesto linguini with chicken. The ravioli was so fresh and tasted amazing, the butternut squash was sweet. The pesto linguini was super super creamy and also steaming hot when it came out! The flavor was great, lots of pesto and cheesiness to it, the little tomato and onion bits pulled all the flavors together so well. The chicken was just a little bit dry but still tasted great with the pasta.

Ivana Daza

Sweet and classic pasta spot in Castro. The interior has cute pride flags and paintings. We went for a vegetarian meal, with pesto linguini, garlic bread, and butternut squash ravioli. All of it was delicious. The full order of garlic bread with marinara sauce was good to share among 2 people. Would return!

We came post-pickleball into Pasta Panino to refuel after some intense matches. The service was extra friendly (maybe almost too friendly) and we got seated immediately. The appetizers were a bit lackluster for me. The calamari wasn't crispy at all, but I loved the fried lemon slices and overall flavor. The bruschetta wasn't really memorable - bland winter tomatoes don't have much going on at all. The Alfredo was decent - there were generous portions of shrimp and mushrooms. The added spinach makes it feel more healthy too. But at the price tag, I've had better elsewhere. But, I'm happy we tried it out!

I love Pasta Panino! We have always been treated with the greatest degree of respect, courtesy, and care, and the food is always delicious. Garlic Bread: a classic; did not disappoint. Pro trip: if you are able to hold off from devouring it all (tough to do considering how good it is), save some as a dipping bread for the rest of the meal, to soak up the flavored oil from the ravioli or the dressing from the salad. Delicious. Calamari Fritto Misto: also great! A lightly crispy texture, with delicious tartar sauce. Roasted Beet Arugula Salad: the perfect balance of textures, with soft burrata cheese and sliced fennel. I do wish there was a hint more of the balsamic vinaigrette for extra flavor, but still delectable. Butternut Squash Ravioli: it tastes like Christmas. The hot sage-infused brown butter oil is perfect for dipping (garlic) bread into, and the spinach, peas, and white corn add incredible bursts of flavor and texture. Definitely a staple in our go-to order here. Cinnamon Bread Pudding: the perfect way to end the meal, a warm soft sweet treat topped with apples and whipped cream made in house. Yum.

Didn't think to take the photo until I had finished my meal. Sorry folks.

I came in & had the fried calamari. Talked to the chef. Nice guy. Good atmosphere. I'll have to eat here again before I endorse it. They have cheese on ever table but not salt, but it available if you ask. Small businesses deserve support.

    Spaghetti con Polpette

This place is quaint, home style italian-american restaurant tucked away in the castro! Great place to catch up with friends or a date spot without a need for a reservation. Not groundbreaking italian food but the ideal comfort food spot! Friend and I ordered the spaghetti con polpette (meatballs), butternut squash ravioli, and tiramisu. Spaghetti con polpette was tasty - came with a heaping portion of 3 meatballs that were seasoned well and moist/not dry. Bright tomato sauce with some fresh basil complemented the big meatballs and al dente pasta. It tasted like a home cooked dish! Butternut squash ravioli felt healthy-ish and came with some spinach and corn. Ravioli was tasty with a sweet butternut squash filling that complemented the subtle sage butter sauce. We finished with a well balanced tiramisu with solid cream to coffee ratio and was not too sweet. It came topped with some strawberries that were nice tartness to offset the sweetness of the dessert. Overall service was great with attentive staff. The place was clean, pretty spacious with a bar type seating on the side. My main critique is the restaurant is a tad cold! Came here as a party of 5 for dinner on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm after finding street parking nearby and were seated immediately. Our server (I think his name was Derek...?) was super friendly and great at giving engaging and informative descriptions about some of the more notable menu options (but I unfortunately have the memory of a goldfish so I don't remember anything he said aha). We ended up getting the Linguine, Spaghetti con Polpette, Linguini allo Scoglio, Minestrone, and Bruschetta Ciabatta. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes! I ordered the spaghetti, which I believe is their most popular item, and it was really flavorful and came with very hefty-looking meatballs! If you love spaghetti, I'd definitely recommend. My stomach was not large enough to accommodate my plate so I happily took home leftovers to enjoy the next day. Our server was even kind enough to open the door for us as we left :') (I asked for his name as we left so I could write him a great review but I clearly did not do my part in remembering his name, so to our server: if your name isn't actually Derek, I do apologize but thank you for your great hospitality!!) For SF, the prices really aren't bad at all! If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely be willing to come back to try their other offerings. If you're looking for a filling and delicious Italian place that doesn't break the bank, I'd highly recommend!!

When the dish landed, I was initially impressed. But after the first bite, it felt a bit like the Wizard of Oz: impressive presentation hiding something less substantial underneath. Their lasagna is a sort of deconstructionist take on the classic dish. The noodles are cooked and layered almost naked between barely any pockets of filling. There were a few tidbits of meat, maybe sauce and no cheese within the layers themselves. The noodles are then baked, cut, plated, and topped with what I'd guess was about a 6 oz ladle of their bolognese, finished with finely pre-grated parmesan. The first bite was overwhelmingly pasta-forward. It took me a moment to understand how the dish had been assembled against my expectations. Once I cut into it and spread everything out, it became clear this wasn't the kind of lasagna I think of when ordering lasagna. It didn't check the familiar boxes - a rich ragù, maybe a creamy béchamel, or the sharp, salty depth of cheeses layered throughout. The dish lacked the complexity and savory comfort I was craving and expecting. Another miss was the homemade flatbread (which I went back and paid cash for, so it wasn't included in the total). Traditional Italian flatbread is a yeast-free bread made with flour, olive oil or lard, salt, and water or milk, then rolled thin and cooked until crisp yet chewy. This version tasted like flour, lard, and water. It wasn't crisp or chewy. As soon as I started chewing, it turned into an unappetizing doughy mass in my mouth. After the first quarter-piece, I didn't eat anymore. As for everything else, I arrived around 7:15 on a Saturday night, and the inside was packed with a small line to the door. The outdoor tables weren't full, but it was summer in San Francisco, more people were jockeying for seats inside than out. But I wasn't too concerned and I got there around 7, so all that is on me. There were a few specials written on a chalkboard, and the cashier was awesome while explaining those. They were incredibly patient. I apologized for holding up the line, and in a very Italian way, they assured me it was my right to make sure I ordered exactly what I wanted. That interaction honestly stood out as one of the better parts of the experience. I grabbed a table just as one opened up, helped myself to water a few times from the station, and my food arrived in about 20 minutes which wasn't bad considering how busy they were. There's been a bit of internal conflict with this review. I usually don't like judging a restaurant based on a single dish, especially a restaurant with so many positive reviews. But I also don't spend as much time in that part of the city anymore, and there are simply too many other places I still want to try. Unfortunately, while there was some good-looking food on other tables, if a restaurant's claim of lasagna as its signature dish doesn't hold up, the first visit just didn't do enough to pull me back for a second chance.

As soon as you walk in, you can see someone making fresh pasta, which is always a great sign. You order upfront and the cashier/waiter will bring your food to you after they give you a number. There was plenty of seats available and we came in around 6pm. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients in their food. They offer a great variety of fresh pasta, and you can customize your dish with different sauces. They also have specialties like meat and veggie lasagna, along with fresh salads topped with generous amounts of cheese. We ordered the burrata salad, the meat lasagna, and the tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce, and everything was delicious. My partner loved the perfectly al dente noodles, and I really enjoyed the unique, creamy sauce on the lasagna. The burrata salad paired nicely with everything, though I do wish it had a little more balsamic dressing. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for fresh, homemade Italian dishes. Definitely worth checking out!

My family's favorite pastas are the tortellini and the pappardelle, but we have tried most of the regular pastas and specials they serve and they are all amazing. Last time we went there, we got to try a special tortellini and it was mind blowing. You can't go wrong with anything you order from the piadina to the garden salad and all in between. Service is very friendly and ambiance is perfect.
