Make a reservation (which we did) on Open Table during peak times or risk being turned away. The place earned a Michelin star and is very popular amongst the locals and visitors alike. Parking is limited but parking on the main streets is permitted. Service: Had a 7pm reservation but arrived 15 minutes early. We were told that we will be seated close to our reservation time which is fair. This place was packed and I stopped counting how many walk ins were turned away, not even offered a wait/come back time. I guess they operate mainly on reservation with the occasional walk in. My wife and I were seated at exactly 7pm. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant next to a window, after looking around, we were probably seated close, if not, THE best spot at the restaurant. We did state in the reservation that it was our wedding anniversary (which it was) and boy they did not disappoint in our seating. Our server, Marilou, was great and attentive. She is an asset to the restaurant. 5 of 5 stars Food: We were initially offered bread with a side of olive oil/vineger upon seating. For starters we ordered the Frito Misto appetizer, which is basically lightly breaded Calamari and Shrimp. I enjoyed this app and wanted to order another but rememberd we had a main course =) For our main, the wife ordered the Butternut Squash Mascarpone pasta while I ordered Tagliatelle Day Boat Sea Scallops. The pasta portions were good and we both enjoyed them. For dessert, we went with the Ghiradelli Butterscotch Pudding to share. That too was very good. Overall: Wonderful experience from end to end. Service was dismal! We've enjoyed Pasta Moon over the years, but today the service was nonexistent and seating was underwhelming. While main dining room is beautiful, we got stuck seated in their sunroom, with uncomfortable metal chairs, this room has zero ambience and seems to be just an ugly add-on to squeeze in more tables. Since you're not in main dining room, you are out of sight, out of mind. We weren't impressed with the expensive food, metal picnic seating, and lack of service and we will not be back. read more

My favorite restaurant that serves the best fresh made pasta!! The service is impeccable and down to earth. The salads are always seasonal and they purchase from local farmers! We stopped by here on a recent trip to half moon bay, searching for a lunch spot on a busy Saturday afternoon. Pasta moon was super close to where we were staying, so we decided to give it a try! We got there around 1:30, and they were closing at 2 for their lunch, but they so graciously seated us while also allowing me to push my stroller with my baby to our table. They also kindly seated us at a table where we can park our stroller, so thoughtful! My husband and I are new parents, so we really appreciated the accommodating environment with our 5 month old. We ordered a dragon fruit mocktail, the grilled strawberry and burrata starter, the pappardelle pancetta and the spaghetti puttanesca. All the food came out fairly quickly and they also served bread with our meal. Everything was so so yummy! The dragon fruit mocktail was sweet, bright and refreshing. A great pairing against the richer pasta. All the pasta noodles were wonderfully chewy and cooked to perfection as well. I absolutely LOVED the pappardelle. The mushrooms, the sauce, the pasta -- every bite was so so good! The staff was also especially kind in chatting with us while we dined with our baby. Their new location is beautiful inside with a huge outside space with plenty of socially distant tables. They have heat lamps and gorgeous landscaping. I feel like I'm dining in a beautiful garden. New location also has a huge parking lot attached as well as street parking. The food is fresh with layered flavors. We had the peach salad, scallops, clam chowder, corn purée, eggplant Parmesan and pappardelle pancetta. We loved all of it as well as the fresh bread service. But our favorite item is the lemon parfait - its creamy on the outside, cold sorbet center - with a meringue topping. Superb! It's been a loooong time since I've visited Pasta Moon of Half Moon Bay, California. I don't want to tell you how long because I'd be showing my age! In my opinion, the food has gotten better. Service was prompt and professional. The waiter was very attentive, always topping off the water glass and refilling the bread and olive oil / vinegar. We started with the STEAMED MUSSELS. topped with crispy shoestring fries drizzled with a zesty lemon aioli. Date night dinner at pasta moon was disappointing because our expectations were not equal to what we received. We decided to start with a couple of appetizers muscles, and a quail salad. The mussels tasted terrible. They were either old or something was really off...I just don't know. The quail salad; the salad part was good, but the quail lacked any flavor at all just bland. Since the appetizers were not to our liking we decided to forgo the entrées and go home. Unfortunately, all the greatness we heard about Pasta Moon, and what we experienced was quite a letdown. We waaay over ordered appetizers (sausage pizza, corn chowder, frito misto and house salad...the corn chowder was the best version of corn soup we have ever had. The pizza and frito misto were excellent too. For dinner we ordered a lasagna, spaghetti Puttanesca and parpadelle with mushrooms...all were absolutely delicious. And HUGE portions. Making and changing our reservation times was easy here. We luckily got an early reservation, a necessity, as the restaurant was packed both indoor and outdoor by 6:30pm. The good thing was, there was plenty of outdoor seating, however, a few of the tables (including ours) were placed in slightly precarious situations, so it was a bit tight to get in and out for both the customers and the servers with some trip hazards as well. However, service here was excellent, everyone was very attentive, our water glasses were constantly refilled, plates promptly cleared. We enjoyed everything we had here. The plum salad was fresh, and just the tiniest bit tart, which complemented the goat cheese well. As well as the sweet corn puree with a drizzle of chili oil, very nicely balanced. I enjoyed my ribeye steak and really glad I added the scallops, those were perfectly cooked. The ribeye itself, although very tender because of the fat content, was also a tad more charred than I would have liked, and was cooked more to a medium than my requested medium rare. But the flavor was good, and I really liked the cook on the kale/broccolini and the smokiness of the potatoes. Topped off with an affogato, a near perfect evening. read more

The newly remodeled restaurant is wow. I haven't dined here since before the pandemic and I didn't realize they moved from near the hardware and feed store to almost to the business end on Main. Kudos to the interior designers and contractors. This restaurant is just breath taking not to mention the outdoor seating in front with white tablecloth, heaters, pergola or trellis overhead decked out with twinkly lights and shaded under olive trees. Especially romantic on a warm summer evening. I'm a fan of their pastas. Of course ! We enjoyed the seafood and beef Raghu bolognese. Perfection. It's been tough for all service industries to hire help: waiters, waitresses and support staff since covid19. Most service workers won't return until after September I hear. So set aside a few hours for dinner and just enjoy conversation and the ambiance without stress. All will return to business as usual eventually. We had a really nice dinner here last Friday. We called and were able to make a reservation easily the same night. We ordered a few appetizers and desserts in addition to our entrees. The house made sausage pizza was tasty with a nice thin crust. The fritto misto was okay- more onions than actual calamari in my opinion. I got the tagliatelle bolognese for my entree. I could tell the pasta was fresh and perfectly al dente. The sauce was slightly creamy and complimented the pasta well. It was too much for me to eat with the appetizers we had also so I ended up taking home leftovers. My wife and I celebrated our 45TH wedding anniversary earlier this week. Upon arriving we had a most delightful conversation with the Maitre d. I had made a special request and was delighted where he seated us. The atmosphere was beautiful and the wreaths stunning. We enjoyed a cocktail and our entrees. Both the Salmon Pasta and lasagna were wonderful. In fact the lasagna was the most delicious I have ever enjoyed. Definitely a "mama's " old family recipe. Desserts and coffee were excellent. My husband and I were staying down the street at the Ritz and were looking for something to eat for dinner in the area. We came across this place via yelp and were recommended this place by friends. We made a reservation because we read the reviews on how busy they were. We were seated right before our reservation time on a Sunday evening which was perfect. I decided to order the eggplant parmesan and my husband got the lasagna. The portions were absolutely huge. We probably could have shared but wanted our own entrees. Both dishes were pretty heavy but very flavorful and were served super hot. We had plenty of leftovers for another meal the next day. We picked up on Pasta Moon to supplement our Thanksgiving activities in the Half Moon Bay area. The interior has quite the charming old-school Italian look to it, but with some modern additions like an open kitchen and a bar to the side. Solid Italian with very delicious dishes and on-point service, though there were a few weak points in the meal. Private parking lot with plenty of room, so despite the limited downtown street parking you should be able to find a spot. The weather was remarkably pleasant, so we opted to go for an outdoor dining experience this time around. It was a bit makeshift as the tables were all on the dirt side-paths around the establishment, but a good amount of tables they were able to fit with heat lamps frequently dotted around. Service was extremely hospitable and the place seemed well staffed for the holiday meal. Nothing was amiss in service speed and servers were quite attentive. The premises was kept very clean and well decorated for the occasion to boot. For Thanksgiving the menu was pick-and-choose from a 3 course meal with plenty of drinks options. It did feel like an occasion for a drink, but since somebody had to drive (me) I opted for their Strawberry Nojito and my brother got their Huckleberry Hound cocktail. ==Bread [2.5/5]== It'd be remiss if there wasn't some bread (and olive-oil+vinegar) going around for an Italian restaurant. Unfortanely it was a bit hit/miss on this front. The olive oil / rosemary bread was quite divinely soft, but both it and the baguette were served cold. On top of this the baguette didn't taste all that fresh (being soft and rubbery on the outside a dry on the inside). The olive oil was good quality at least. I know it's a freebie, but it was a bit jarring that our first bite was honestly a bit subpar. ==Primi (soups) [4.5/5]== I opted for their Clam chowder and my brother got their Parsnip soup. All-in-all I was pretty impressed with them. Soups were very smooth and potently flavorsome, especially the parsnip. The clam chowder had quite a nice savory aroma, but not quite thick and chunky enough for New England style, not to mention a distinct lack of crackers for my soup. That all said, the parsnip soup was very well balanced. ==Secondi [4/5]== This was mostly pretty darn good as the thanksgiving sides were remarkably good and the short-rib was pretty much perfect. Moist as heck and falling off the bone in tenderness, perfectly glazed and further complemented by a full array of sides. The string beans were crispy and fresh, mashed potatoes wonderfully creamy and the stuffing delightfully savory with sausage and parmesan. The sweet-potato casserole almost fooled me into thinking they were carrots, but they were almost creamier and definitely more potent in flavor than the mashed taters. I'm not one for cranberry sauce, but the relish struck a nice balance with sour and sweet to complement the meats. Unfortunately the shortcoming is mostly the Turkey I was served (admittedly hard to get right); the carving was more of a skewering with mostly small broken chunks and the turkey was also dry. The gravy helped a bit, but it didn't stick too well and the dryness still remained. ==Dolce [3/5]== Dessert unfortunately left me a bit wanting. My brother opted for the Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle cake and I went with the Pumpkin Pie & Crostata duo. His was infinitely better than mine, and though the hazelnut wasn't quite present the rich and chocolately cake was a lovely finisher to the meal (not to mention a nice crunchy peanut brittle as a bottom). Bit hard to cut the bottom, but it was quite tasty. The pie and crostata were mixed and rather disappointing. The pie filling was pleasant, but not very strongly flavored and could have used a bit more oomph to it. The crostata was not too sweet and did let the natural fruity and nutty flavors shine, but was a bit on the dry side. But their crust fared pretty poorly; I ate the filling as it was nice enough, but I could not bring myself to finish the crusts. The pie's was pasty and the crostata's edge had a bitter taste to it. Overall the meal was still a fun experience, but certain parts of their menu I'm slightly more cautious about (like what their bakery situation is). I have a feeling their pasta would be wonderful though. read more

We were not seated until after 8:00, and it felt like the staff was ready to leave. Our server wanted to rush our entree order in, then we waited..... I noticed that there was only one cook behind the line. Our entrees finally arrived and the Pappardelle and Linguine Puttanesca were not great. The lasagna was excellent, as always, but my pappardelle was not pappardelle. It was sheet pasta torn into squares, and seemed thrown together. No clams in the Puttanesca. We used to love this place but it went down hill. last time we went there was a fly in my drink and I called the older gentlemen who was a manager or something and told him that I did not ask for extra protein on my drink. He was right there when we needed anything. The wonderful & tasty Homemade Sausage Pizza and flavorful salads are favorites of ours. This is a Michelin recognized restaurant. I was planning a dinner for a bachelorette girls night while staying in Pacifica and wanted to make a drive out to Half Moon Bay. I called earlier in the week to see if outdoor dining was available since everything was just opened back up. To my luck they were and they allowed my reservation for 6 and I had to leave a card number to save it. The staff is very responsive and they're open towards the afternoon. It was Valentine's/Presidents' Day weekend so it was very busy. Even though it was cold, the outdoor dining was beautiful for our fancy dinner. We had no issues when getting seated and there were heaters but it was still a little chilly. They give you a choice of sparkling or still water. We started with the fritto misso (deep fried calamari and vegetables), fried Brussel sprout chips, and PEI mussels. It was all really good, and I got myself a sangria which was also good and pretty strong. As for the main course, we all had a variety of things to order. I asked the waiter what the most popular item is and he said it was the Pasta Moon Lasagna which consisted of layers of pasta, meat, and cheese. Boy it was thick but really good! I also nibbled from the other items, and I enjoyed the Eggplant Parmesan and Butternut & Marscapone Ravioli-- it was on the sweeter end of you're into that. We also got the spaghetti puttanesca (the person that ordered that completely finished their plate!) Other honorable mentions were the Taglietelle Bolognese, Pappardelle Pancetta, and Chicken Fettucine. For dessert we also got Mascarpone Cheesecake and it was REALLY good! All of the flavors and cream oh my it still makes my mouth water. The pastas were all really dense and filling, we had leftovers for days but really enjoyed our meal there. I dined here Sunday evening as a Father's Day celebration and had a to wait 15 minutes despite having a reservation. The restaurant had plenty of tables still available in the dining area that we had booked but I get that it was a busy night however the food was the worst part of the experience. I centered my search to find a restaurant that had lightly fried and battered squid - from the pictures, it seemed like I had found exactly what I was looking for but the Fritto Misto turned out to be 70% fried onions, a few fried lemon wedges, and maybe 15% each of baby shrimp and squid. For other starters, we ordered the roasted beet salad which wasn't roasted at all, and the portion size was enough for maybe 4 small bites. The sweet corn crab chowder was the best although it was definitely on the sweeter side, almost dessert level sweetness. The salt spring mussels for the apps was equally as disappointing because it had so much sand. Midway through our meal, someone we didn't recognize came to our table and informed us they were still cleaning up the wine and promptly left. We hadn't ordered any wine and was quite confused and later they showed us the cork was pushed through into the bottle. Turns out it was for the table next to us. When the pastas arrived, it just didn't look right. The lasagna sauce usually makes the lasagna and sadly it was quite flavorless. Large shrimp cream pasta was practically just cream, butter and salt. The Papparadelle Pancetta with mushrooms was salty and flavorless, and definitely did not have any pancetta. At this point, we just wanted to leave. Every pasta was disappointing. Then we tried the Puttanesca and turns out it was the worst of them all - each bite had sand in the mussels and clams and tasted off like it had bathed in chemicals. Definitely not fresh.
