Nice place to have lunch on a weekday when it's not crowded around 1:30 pm. Before this I've only had the original Paseo before the owners changed thought I'd give it a try again. The restaurant is pretty big inside and with nice outdoor patio with lots of seating, which is great for those nice warm sunny days. The one downside and also inconvenient is that they are located in the paid parking lot area, with only 5 available free (very tight) parking spaces specifically for their restaurant, even then it's only a 30 minute limit. So be prepared to look for street parking. We got the Original Caribbean Roast, one regular sandwich and the other a lettuce wrap which was nice surprise that they offered this option. Both tasted pretty close to the original sandwich that I had years ago around 2014, but the pork wasn't as tender. Best Caribbean roast sandwich ever! I was recommended this place to try from friends who had previously been to Seattle. I Wish I could find something similar in LA. My review is on the tourist side because there is definitely no sandwich like this in LA. For those who live in Seattle and have other options I can't really speak for. The sandwich was delicious and all the flavors really blend together. We also ordered the corn on the cob which was also delicious! We did come on an odd day when the restaurant seemed to be booked for a party with music blaring and tons of people out in the back. I was recommended this place so I was expecting a great sandwich. Bread was hard and sort of stale, but the inside tasted good at least. Hard to eat because the ingredients were so wet it was like the sandwich was leaking. Worst part - the parking. $15 to park to get a wet sandwich? No thanks. I loved the chicken thigh and the chips were a nice worked well but the bowl also came with rice which was weird to have both chips & rice. However, the star of the show is definitely the sandwich. Their menu labeled it as the 'best rated sandwich in America' and so I had high expectations. The sandwich... was a juicy & flavorful beauty that turns into a complete mess after a few bites. The flavors they used in this sandwich... absolute foodgasm in your mouth with each bite... If you come to Paseo... please order this sandwich... I'm getting hungry just thinking about it..... Anyways, service here was great. Employees were nice and the service was super fast! Food was done within just a few mins of ordering! I appreciated that. We did not try the original store since it was not opened on Monday. There was one star difference on the Yelp reviews, but I think the sandwich was great. We ordered #1 The Famous Roast and Tostones (fried plantains). The sandwich with marinated pork shoulder tasted great. No sure if the original can do any better. We stopped by here for a quick late dinner last weekend after doing some shopping at the weed shops in the area and they opened until 10pm. We'd never been to this location before. You can see the inside of the restaurant from the outside. It's colorful and bright. There were 5 free parking spots by the entrance that you can park in; otherwise, there's some street parking around and there's also a paid parking lot on site. When you enter, you place your order at the counter then you seat yourself and bus your own table. The tables are separated with a potted plant between tables to maintain the social distance rule, and if you prefer - there's also plenty of outdoor seating available. Of course I got the Famous Caribbean Roast sandwich - their marinated and slow-roasted pork shoulder on a toasted baguette with garlic aioli, cilantro, pickled jalapenos, romaine and thick caramelized onions. The most tender pork shoulder ever that is delicious and seriously juicy. Eating it can get a bit messy but they give you a ton of napkins. I got the Caribbean Fries which is absolutely delicious. They definitely put some spices and sugar in the potato before they fry them as I can taste the seasonings. The garlic aioli dipping sauce tastes so fresh and compliments the fries really well! My husband ordered the West Caribbean Bowl that comes with black beans, warm house red sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, cilantro, picked jalapeno topped sitting on a bed of white jasmine rice, topped with tortilla chips. On his first few bites, my husband muttered "Damn, this pork is so tender." For drink we got the Passion Fruit Lemonade but to be honest all I could taste is a plain lemonade. All of our food came in a takeout container so it's easy to clean up and put in the bins by the door and all the leftovers were all set for taking home. The staff here were all friendly. I really hope this was a mistaken batch. I am not sure how you screw up pork shoulder this badly. This disappointment is one of the worst in my 200+ reviews. I beside myself. #3 in the country? Ok this place is SO underrated! My daughter and I stopped here for lunch. It looks kinda sketchy/funky but the food was REALLY good. Shared the presses sandwich along with the Paseo green salad and the food was ample. We ordered the heat level at a "2" but there was no spiciness at all so I think they may have forgotten that part. The food is very poor quality compared to what it used to be. Shrimp was not grilled, aioli was oil and not creamy, bread was hard so when you bite into sandwich everything is pushed out. Prices are high and inaccurate, the hostess would not give us an itemized receipt until after we paid so she read it to use before I paid. Once I got the itemized receipt the amounts were all wrong. WOW this place is great! Being in the Pacific Northwest is about as far as you can get from the Caribbean in the continental US and from visiting many Caribbean restaurants the food is also far from what you would get in the islands. That is not the case at Paseo! They bring the Caribbean to Seattle with a five star hurricane of taste! But you don't need to run from this hurricane, you need to run to it! Having visited the islands I have tasted great food seasoned perfectly and the food here may not be exactly what you find in the Caribbean but it's as close as you are going to get in our area. We ordered take out and they were very polite and easy to deal with over the phone. They took the order and read it back and when we got it, it was exactly what we ordered. The only thing that was a bit of a downer was that they do not serve fries at this location. They did have chips and warm salsa so we got those, but chips are not the same as their seasoned Caribbean fries with garlic aioli. I liked the warm salsa though, very unique and a nice taste with warm chips. I have had several items from Paseo and I think if I had to pick my all time favourite I would choose the Caribbean Roast Pork sandwich. The reason why I would choose this is that the taste is very authentic and the pulled pork was cooked perfectly. It's that pork shoulder that just falls apart as you touch it. It's juicy and not greasy and the pork shoulder is in larger chunks than just tiny shreds. The sandwich is a perfect size and if comes with cilantro and romaine which were both fresh and crisp along with jalapeños and some of the best caramelized onions I have had on a sandwich in Seattle. They were not just small thin slivers of onion but large cuts of onion. There is an aioli sauce on the sandwich as well which really went along with everything perfectly. I have also had the grilled pork sandwich, the sautéed prawns sandwich and the ham and cheese. The pork here is great so I would recommend the grilled pork as my second favorite which is pork loin. The sautéed prawns would be my third choice and they use wild black tiger pawns. The ham and cheese was good but I prefer the other sandwiches. Their black beans were good as was their jasmine rice. They are known for their famous roast corn. It's corn on the cob in garlic aioli, Parmesan, cilantro and paseo's secret spices. Don't pass up Paseo! read more
