This is such a beautiful cozy restaurant in the neighborhood! The atmosphere transported me to Europe! The employees are so friendly, kind and accommodating. I'm fairly new to French Cuisine and they were more than happy to guide me through the menu. The menu was diverse and I was in between the lobster ravioli and mushroom pasta. The Lobster ravioli won my heart!! Because it was on the lunch special and also who will turn down Lobster???! They have a bunch of great vegetarian options as well. My boyfriend enjoyed his Duck and said the caramelize glaze smeared on top really gave the duck the kick it needed! Personally, I'm not a fan of Duck but I tried a few bites of his meal and I am converted!!! It tasted just like chicken. The food was delicious (mushroom torte, scallops Provençal, lamb chops, chocolate souffle, Bordeaux wine) and just the perfect place to make you feel like you are in Paris. We arrived at Pascalou at 6:15 for a 6:30 reservation and were seated immediately. We had invited a friend to dinner and so, were pleased to be seated and were so looking forward to a celebratory meal. What followed, disorganized, disconnected service made the experience very disappointing. We waited over 20 minutes for the wine list after struggling to find out who our server was. It was Saturday evening, we were upstairs where a large group was gathering. I was hoping to get our orders in before they were seated, but the staff was clearly overwhelmed. At 7:28, while my husband was still working on his entree and our friend and I had not had our plates cleared, the waiter told us that we had to leave in 4-5 minutes. We were incredulous! I explained that we were not even offered dessert or coffee. A couple was seated at the table next to us and after several minutes they left. Saying on their way out that we did not need to rush as their table was now free. At 7:45 while we were finishing our dessert (again, with no offer of coffee or tea) the waiter came back, apologized and again, said that we needed to leave within 10 minutes or so. He returned in 5 minutes and asked if we would like him to bring the check. I replied "No, we would not like that, but apparently we have no choice." he brought the check while we finished our dessert. In addition to rushing us out and ruining our meal, their were three physical problems: the room was stifling - the staff visibly sweating as they scurried around; we could smell gas - as in natural gas from the stove; the toilet did not flush. Being upstairs, we were graced with guests standing and waiting to use the restroom in the corner. The chef and team may have prepared delicious French food, but a restaurant also needs ambiance and service that makes one comfortable and relaxed and welcome. The place is quaint and small very cozy, but not uncomfortably so. The service was quick and attentive. The food was okay. It was good but not super elevated. My wife had the seafood pot pie. But it really wasn't a pot pie. It was basically a seafood stew served with a side of rice and a few slices of puff pastries. The Pastries we DEFINITELY stale though. The stew was flavorful however. Mom in law had the shrimp and saffron rice with was delicious. (Yes I tasted everyone's dish) i had the steak and frites medium well, and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The only two disappointments were the escargot, good flavor but not cooked long enough for my liking. The French onion soup was just okay. Needed more onion flavor if you ask me. read more

While the atmosphere seemed pleasant they do not honor reservations here. We arrived 5 mins early for our reservation for a party of 3 and after checking in we had to wait outside because of how packed it was. We were told that we would be seated soon as they were setting our table. After waiting 20 mins we watched they seat a party of 6 that had walked in before us. We were then informed that we didn't have a table and would have to wait for another party (who hadn't even finished their dessert yet) to get their check. The hostess failed to apologize nor did she admit her mistakes. After waiting longer outside in the cold we opted to leave and find another restaurant. read more

Second review for Pascalou. 1)Showing up on a Monday and seeing that the place was packed, should be a great indication of what many diners have discovered years ago. 2) Creative, innovative and worldly, I've yet to taste anything that the chef can't prepare well. Absolutely delicious. The Beef Bourgogne was served hot in a crock. Flavors of beef, wine, and fresh veggies hit the spot, while my wife's risotto was better than what we shared in Italy. The Seafood Pot Pie was decadent, baked with a light flakey crust, a light cream sauce and the freshest fish. Again, Pascalou delivered, and is our favorite NYC "secret". read more

my husband John and I had a delicious lunch at Pascalou this week after a walk in the park. we sat outside, it was very pleasant. the food was the highlight. I had the shrimp with grilled grits and my husband had the lamb curry. both dishes were beautifully plated and they tasted as good as they looked. Very precise seasonings from chef Pascal. *reviewed during COVID regulations* Naturally, my friend and I had to come to a French restaurant to celebrate Bastille day, just because. A cursory search brought up this cute little French restaurant with outdoor seating - I'd say there were about 10 or so tables, with about 2 larger ones under a canopy for bigger parties. All tables were appropriately spaced away from each other. We made reservations via Yelp, but got there a little bit earlier and were seated immediately. We started off with a 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon ($11/glass). A little pricey, but very good! For my dinner I chose the duck confit, as that appears to be a hit - it did not disappoint. The skin on outside was a liiiittttlle overcooked, but the sauce was flavorful and the inside was still moist and fell off the bone. My friend got the chicken/lamb tagine, which was very flavorful, but unfortunately, she does not eat lamb. The staff was quick to help her out and substituted it with a lovely Nicoise salad. By the way, portion sizes are very generous! Staff was very professional and helped us out with the menu. All the staff was appropriately masked. Excited to come back another again! read more

Cute bistro. We had the dumplings for an app. They were store bought frozen dumplings and had peanut sauce which I have bought from Trader Joe's. My wife had the seafood with orzo and loved it. My daughter and I had the short ribs which were tender however they were smothered in barbecue sauce. I cook bbq a lot. And I know the bbq sauce was sweet baby rays, because I use it all the time. Idk why the chef did that I told the waiter to explain to the chef that if the short ribs are prepared properly the sauce they are cooked in is what makes the flavor. Not sweet baby rays. read more

The place had decent amount of people there. We were given menus and after ordering, received complimentary bread. I was quite delighted by my first visit and made a reservation for a party of 10+ a few weeks later. We had almost the entire upstairs to us, making for a very intimate gathering. The restaurant staff was attentive throughout our dinner. For dinner, I had the lamb chops ($30) good medium-rare; it was such a delightful meal and cooked perfectly. During my second visit I got the pre-fixe meal (as well as everyone in the party) which was such a great deal with appetizer, entree, and dessert for ~$28! I had the duck confit for my entree and the passion fruit ice cream for dessert. The prosciutto wrapped asparagus for appetizer. Everyone was very pleased - I heard that the salmon was tender and wonderfully cooked. Atmosphere is wonderful - I was able to have good conversation with my friend and in a big group setting. This place is very cute, right near Central Park and they have a very cute outdoor seating area. My experience here has only been to pick up my Mealpal so I can't really comment on the dining in service. The chicken milanese through Mealpal and is just very bland. It's like they use not even a hint of seasoning and just coat it with flour. The portion is pretty generous and I really like that they separate the chicken from the salad so that it doesn't get soggy but the chicken is just severely lacking in flavor. I'm not someone who ever adds extra salt or pepper to my food but I had to add some in order to make the chicken taste like something. The place is usually pretty busy so I'm definitely open to trying out other dishes here that might be more flavorful. read more

the four of us had a fantastic meal at Pascalou. the cocktails were well made and generous. the wine list by the glass or bottle was diverse. we had the mussels, dumplings and potato gateau appetizers and they were delicious. the duck breast entree with asparagus was perfectly prepared as was the mushroom ravioli entree. the beef bourguignon was tender but needed salt, then quite delicious. the service was attentive but not intrusive. the upstairs seating was romantic and intimate, great low noise level for conversation. the plates were beautifully presented. a wonderful meal was had and we will go to Pascalou again! When my friend called to make a reservation this past Sunday for dinner at 6:30, the hostess promised her a window table. Then the hostess gave the space to another couple instead, claiming they had asked for it first. If that was the case, why did she promise it in the first place? To make matters worse, instead of apologizing, the hostess got snippy about it and took an attitude, suggesting "if you don't like it leave." This ruined dinner for my friend and all of us. (It was difficult to leave at this point because I had showed up a few minutes early and already ordered something). We were looking for a restaurant near the Metropolitan Museum of Art and found Pascalou. This wonderful restaurant is a small family owned business. Everything we had was wonderful. The escargot was the best I've ever had prepared with tons of garlic and butter, the Caesar salad again delicious, Fisherman's stew and vegetable linguine ditto. I love Pascalou. Its food is always good and there is such a range of choices you would think this is a big restaurant with a large kitchen. But it's not -- in fact, its smallness gives a feeling of intimacy. I have been there many times, both for lunch and dinner, and enjoy trying new dishes each time. I had visited Pascalou a couple of times maybe 8-10 years ago and recall having a decent experience both times, so I made a brunch reservation for myself, my husband, and a friend this weekend prior to checking out an exhibit at the Guggenheim. The place was pretty busy, but the servers were attentive and we got our food and drinks quickly. The ambiance is pretty old school and the tables are close together, so it's a pretty tight and intimate dining experience. As far as the food goes, we were all pretty disappointed with our meal. The entree portions are TINY. Much smaller than I recall. I had a brunch special called the Casino Royale, which was a combination of clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and bacon in garlic breadcrumbs. It came in a very small ramekin and contained one scallop (quartered), two medium sized shrimp (halved), two mussels, and two small pieces of clam. There was probably the equivalent of a half a slice of bacon that was chopped up and maybe a tablespoon of breaded topping. The seafood was way over cooked and did not taste fresh at all. It came with a small, naked side salad that consisted of some arugula, frisée, and maybe a single chopped up pecan. My husband got the croque monsieur, which came on the tiniest pieces of bread I've ever seen. It looked like weight watchers bread, and what made it more off putting was that they used cream cheese in the croque monsieur, which seems odd. This is a French restaurant after all, so you would think a croque monsieur would be a bankable choice. At the very least, the side salad that came with the croque contained a slice of avocado, which my salad did not, but it was also undressed. It also came with a small ramekin of potato chips. Our friend ordered the lemon blueberry pancakes, plural, but received a single, skinny, lone pancake with some syrup. These entrees were all over $20 each. I get that it's the UES but WTAF. It's also a bit weird IMO that most of their dishes come out wrapped in aluminum foil. It looks terrible, and I'm not sure what purpose the foil is serving. The reason I am giving this place two stars instead of one is because the service was good and the drinks were decent. read more

We were meeting up with some friends of ours and had a reservation for 4 people outside. Indoor dining was still closed at the time, and I didn't look at outside pictures before coming to Pascalou, so I was ecstatic to find out it has a heated outdoor structure to shield us from the harsh wind! Our friends were running late, but the staff of Pascalou were kind enough to let us sit down at an outdoor table while waiting for our friends! I ended up ordering the french toast here. I was craving something sweet and brunch-y and this helped satisfied my sweet tooth! The french toast had a slightly strange aftertaste to it, but it paired well with some of their syrup. I don't think they put butter on the french toast, so this felt more like eating bread and syrup. The fruit was delicious, but the majority of the fruit were melons, so I wish they added more of a variety to the fruit cup! Overall, I had a great experience here! I don't think I would eat their breakfast again, but Pascalou has such a wide variety of food on their menu, so I would try something else from there!
