Good food, good drinks and the dessert is a must-try! Polite servers and good ambience as well!

We went to Pascalou for Sunday brunch. The restaurant is very quaint and has that nice French bistro charm. It was a beautiful day and they had tables both inside and outside. We all ordered prix fixe brunch at $18.00. This is a very good value as it includes a drink (Mimosa, White Sangria, Coffee, Tea, Juice, etc) an entree and a dessert. I had the Eggs Benedict. This came with a nice side salad and everything was good. My daughter had the Croque Madame which was also goo but not great. For dessert we had coconut gelato with pineapple. Some in our party chose coffee instead of dessert. The service was very good and our waitress was extremely nice and pleasant. Pascalou is a good choice for a good brunch at a good price. It wasn't great but still quite good. Michael J.Fox was also having brunch at a table behind us, and that made the brunch even more interesting. read more

Just OK in general and definitely NOT recommended for anyone with a food allergy. We chose this restaurant after a day at the Met bc we were looking for a nice French experience and it looked cute in the pictures. It wasn't that great. The food was under salted and average, and more importantly to us, the staff and kitchen absolutely did NOT know how to handle a basic food allergy situation (We dine out a LOT and have literally never had so many problems.) We told the waitress that my young-adult daughter is allergic to nuts and she said she would make sure there were no nuts in our food. Not only did she not do that but there were hidden nuts in literally everything: Pesto in the mushroom tartine that we asked for without the accompanying walnut salad so it would be nut free (and were assured it would not have nuts). Pesto in the escargot (?) (We've eaten escargot all over France and never experienced this). Nuts on the caesar salad (??) which they did manage to successfully remove. Pine nuts in the spinach that was served with the sweetbreads, again not disclosed on the menu and the server denied that they were there. Nuts on the asian eggplant which my daughter ordered (the kitchen realized this one at the last second and took it back and made it again). Just overall a total disaster, course after course. By the time they re-made the eggplant and brought it out we were so uncomfortable my daughter didn't want to eat it (not to mention that it was unappetizing with half a head of iceberg lettuce sitting on top drizzled with orange sauce.) When I mentioned how disappointing and stressful this whole thing was to the hostess she seemed shocked and then the waitress came over and repeatedly told me she had "done her best." To the restaurant's credit after I returned to my table they talked to their manager and comped our meal. Overall, though, it was very disappointing. More-so than a free meal we were looking to have a nice experience together and it was mostly derailed by the constant scrutiny and worry over the food plus the fact that we had to add salt to every dish to mask the blandness and really just did not enjoy it. As an aside, the outside hut was cute but from where I was sitting I was looking out the hut's window at a large pile of garbage and recycling they had accumulated there and had to pull the little curtain closed to have some semblance of a nice ambiance. We would not go back or recommend this restaurant. read more

Good food and great service. Everyone was kind and courteous. The atmosphere was lovely.

Had a reservation, called bc we were running late, Friday night still had a choice of lovely seats indoor and outdoor. Service warm and efficient. Ate Special app crab and special blackened sea bass and pork ribs off menu. Each was perfect, every bite delicious. Generous portions. read more

This is an amazing place - was immediately greeted with amazing service. Their french onion soup is PERFECT -- all flavors are balanced and the cheese was melted to perfection. Their Lamb Burger is extremely juicy, so much so that the juices run as you take a bite. That's how you know you have an amazing burger. Their seafood polenta has such a zesty marinara sauce, it's incredibly fresh and you can really taste the garlic that was cooked in it. Their shrimp was very juicy. Overall, super impressed by the level of great customer service and quality that I received and was provided. Definitely coming back here again! read more

This little gem of a restaurant is absolutely amazing. The couple that owns it are charming and the food is authentic and delicious. In addition to the delightful cuisine the staff is friendly and sweet. Specifically, Romona (from Romania) was, (she gave me permission to say) 'a badass bitch' and we attentive and fun and added so much to our amazing visit. read more

Local bistro Upper East Side. Food was good. Service was friendly but slow. Small inside but nice ambiance.

food, prices, ambiance. easy to reserve table. staff friendly and welcoming. classic French offerings.

I have been going to Pascalou for many years and was never disappointed. This time was different though . The beef short rib was very tough , inedible . Other than that , service as good as usual and so the other dishes . read more

I've been coming here for years with my grandmother. I honestly can't say enough about this little French restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious. My favorites are their steaks and fresh mozzarella salad, but the specials are always a hit. They also have delicious coffee and deserts to top of any meal. This is one of those restaurants where though it's not on the lower price end you don't question the price because of the quality of the food. The ambience and decor are great as well and serving is always wonderful. The owners are very nice as well. Ive attached some (not great) pictures of my favorites. read more

Definitely back to bustling business. Staff is overwhelmed if not incompetent. Between asking again for what was ordered and then giving everyone in my party the dish they didn't order (make sure that you have the right sandwich before you bite into it!), my dining experience turned quickly from comical into OMG. Confusion apparently extended to the house Sancerre, which was served at standard prices in the tiniest of glasses. Did we order dessert wine? Not that I was aware, though it arriving long after the food might have indicated otherwise (see my comment on staff competency above). Overall, a tourist trap. Very conveniently located but likely I will not return any time soon. read more

What a quaint, wonderful neighborhood find. We were pleased from the moment we stepped in with the considerate attention to checking proof of COVID vaccination before being seated at our table. The menu had something for everyone and an excellent variety for meat eaters, pescatarians, vegetarians and the like. Our waiter made some very helpful recommendations based on our preferences, and was so friendly. Between the table we ordered the lamb, the seafood stew, the duck, and the branzino special. Everything was very tasty. Only suggestion would be to have some additional sauce to complement the meats and perhaps opt to sauté or roast the vegetable sides as they didn't add much to the dish...except for the cheese mashed potatoes which were just WOW!! We were personally thanked by the owner at the end of the meal which was such a nice touch. Cannot wait to go back and try more of the food options! read more

A friend took me here for my birthday because this is one of the few restaurants that actually regularly serves rabbit, and I had been interested in finally trying it. My friend started with a very nice (and generous) appetizer of sesame shrimp. They were not deep fried like you would expect from a Chinese place, but boiled or poached, served with a very nice sauce. My appetizer was disappointing, though. I was torn between the escargots and the foie gras. I went with the latter, and though the foie gras itself was fine, it was drowned in a cloyingly sweet cranberry orange sauce. It overpowered the delicate foie gras and should have been served on the side. It came with an unnecessary "petite" salad of walnuts and apples. My friend's main course of duck l'orange suffered the same fate of too much sweetness. Though he enjoyed the dish, I thought the overly sweet orange sauce hindered the flavor of the duck, although when we ate the reheated leftovers, it did not taste too sweet and was better than when first served. The rabbit entree I ordered was terrific, though. Beautiful dark meat braised in a red wine sauce with bits of mirepoix. Having had trepidation about eating Bugs Bunny, all thoughts of cuddly cartoon characters left my head as I enjoyed this very flavorful rabbit. It was not gamey or funky tasting at all. It really did taste like chicken. Sides of mashed potatoes and spinach complemented it well. I am not a big dessert person but my friend insisted on splitting something. He smartly chose the chocolate souffle, which came with a side of pistacchio ice cream, whipped cream, and warm chocolate sauce. Not only was it one of the best desserts I can remember having in a very long time, it was beautifully presented, with eat bite more sinful than the last. It was easily the best dish we had there. Pascalou is small, very French in feel, and a good neighborhood bistro that is elegant yet very casual. There were some hits, some misses, but I would give them another try as long as I order wisely and hope the only thing sweet is the dessert. read more

The ambiance was amazing, the service was great, and the food was delicious. I had the braised short rib and it was great, I also tasted some of the pan-seared cod and it was delicious. But the highlight was the bread pudding, I have a huge sweet tooth and it was truly scrumptious. read more

Had a very pleasant dinner at Pascalou on a busy Friday evening. We arrived over a half hour early (we were visiting a relative at the nearby hospital and there was a scheduling change) but they graciously managed to seat us. Excellent French Onion Soup to start and the Crab Cake and Thai Style Vegetable Wok entrees were both very good. The highlight though were the desserts especially the Chocolate Soufflé. read more

Went here for birthday brunch. They have a prefixed menu which includes entree's and drink and dessert for $22ish. Great value but taste was average, the plating wasn't impressed at all.. (Little parsley flakes on top of omelette would've been much nicer and fancy). We sat down upstairs which was very intimate and quiet but we had hard time finding our server to ask what we need. The servers were nice and friendly. Make sure to come for the prefix menu 3 course menu that's only available from 5pm to 6:30pm! I ordered their mussels as the first course appetizer pic and they were super generous withe portions - definitely sharable size for 2-3 ppl. The dipping sauce that came with it also paired really well and mussels were fresh so I highly recommend! Second course I got their duck leg confit. Meat was tender and was pretty good. The sides were pretty plain but felt healthy from it. Their mash potatoes were buttery and smooth but not overwhelmingly heavy so that's good. Desserts depend on what they offer that day. Atmosphere is nice here for dates and they have a second floor! read more

Single Diner Discrimination Alert! I was looking forward to having lunch at Pascalou, a neighborhood spot I have frequented regularly for many years. I did not have a reservation, but the hostess promised to see what she could do. She was able to find a table--for--two. When I confirmed that I would be dining alone, the table was no longer available. I'm appalled about this blatant discrimination--which, unfortunatley, is becoming more and more common and constributing to the destruction of our neighborhoods. Can you imagine a Parisian bistro without the local regular grabbing a bite or nursing a coffee? I can't. Having never left the city during Covid, and having made a point of eating out when small restaurants were struggling, I'm especially disappointed. Most certainly, Pascalou will not be on my dining list next time friends or family are in town. read more

Ok food but seems like they need a little help. The servers were lovely but just a little all over the place/ maybe new? We ordered 2 soups and a sandwich to split that took an hour to get. I frequent French restaurants so I get there's no rush and it's about taking in the atmosphere but to get a menu& coffee it took 15-20 mins. I was also confused by menu which offered Thai, Indian, French, and BBQ. It seemed like something was off compared to the reviews& other people's experiences. read more

My husband and I stopped in here for their prix fixe lunch last week and were very impressed with the food but felt the restaurant lacked ambiance. The prices were very fair and the quality is outstanding but they could make this place extremely special with a bit more thought to the comfort of the patrons. The three course meal gives you plenty of options to choose from. I started with the pate which was more of a terrine since it was a bit chunky and could have been smoother, but with great taste. My husband and I both had the duck confit which was very good indeed. Perfectly cooked with veggies and mash potatoes on the side. The dessert was either a coconut gelato or a mixed fruit crumble, both were fine but nothing to write home about. The duck was the star for this lunch which was fine by us! Our table was literally sitting on top of the other patrons, as were all the other tables. Not a very intimate or romantic setting. It was also extremely loud - not due to people talking or music but the air conditioning unit rumbling louder than a airplane in such a tiny space. read more

If I won the lottery this would be my diner. I noticed that in other reviews the physical space of the bistro was commented on. For us, however, that kind of relaxed casual welcoming atmosphere was what made the evening so great. We were guests of dear friends staying nearby. The bistro is a cozy, unaffected and very neighborhood spot. What I really liked was that the meal we had was spectacular and I didn't feel out of place eating there. We ate downstairs and the closeness of other patrons was completely comfortable and normal. This is NY. It's crowded. And Pascalou's a small space and they have made the most of it. The service was terrific - I don't need formalities. Again, I felt like I was someplace I could relax. Our waiter greeted us with "Hello beautiful people". That's a neighborhood welcome to me. No pretense no preening no unnecessary nada. The young hostess - casual dressed - was graciousness herself and as the evening unfolded I watch her move around the tables with such elegance and warm. And now to the food! We all shared the sesame shrimp salad. I am always meh about appetizers and salads because they often are no better than what I can do at home - and I'm a mediocre and disinterested cook. But this salad was a surprise and a delight and I regretted having to share. I want to return and order this salad all for myself. I had the teriyaki salmon, my husband the grilled salmon and our friends the meatballs and the steak. Again, I rarely find a main course better than my own attempts or cheap-eats but my salmon was so good. I so enjoyed it. It was like being introduced to teriyaki all over again. I tried my friend's steak and my eyes rolled back in my head and melted. (we know good steak because once or twice a year we splurge at the best Argentinean steak house in NY.) My husband always orders salmon when we go someplace nice and it's always "OK". This time he said "Good!" We hope to return to Pascalou again for a treat. Or more often if we win the lottery. read more

It was such an enjoyable experience to have a brunch here on a weekend. I called the restaurant around 10:30am in the morning and were able to reserve the outdoor table 2 hours later. Pascalou is an intimate local favorite. I've had brunch here a few times and the chef never disappoints. There's an option of a pre fixe menu which includes an entree, dessert and a glass of wine or diners can select one of several al la cart choices. I highly recommend the shrimp with polenta as well as the seafood risotto. Both dishes are perfectly seasoned and the seafood is cooked to perfection. My dad, sister and I came on a Friday afternoon. The atmosphere was to quaint and cozy. We were seated right by the front window, so we had a wonderful street view. Our waitress was so charming and helpful. My sister loved the wine that she had and the waitress brought her the wine bottle to take a photo of it for the name. My dad is very particular about his drinks, and his Manhattan was great! For an appetizer my sister and dad split a tuna dish that was so pretty! The presentations and taste were all great throughout! As for the main dishes, my dad had the scallops and my sister the seafood risotto. They both enjoyed their meals very much. As for me, I had the warm goat cheese phyllo dough cup. It had roasted red peppers, tomatoes and onion sautéed on top. Served with it was two small dabs of pesto and a side salad- all great! For dessert, my sister and dad shared the chocolate mousse that was "to die for." They were in chocolate heaven. If I am ever on the upper east side again, I will be back! read more

Adorable little spot on UES. Perfect for lunch. Take advantage of their prixe fix menu (appetizer, entree and dessert for $23.95 as of March 2019) that offers a plentiful selection to choose from...in addition to daily specials too! To start, I had the French onion soup (there was a surcharge which I didn't mind paying) that was flavorful topped with the perfect layering of cheese. For my entree, polenta with shrimp. The portion was a generous and super delish. Desserts change daily. I went with a scoop of their coconut sorbet that was refreshing and just the right amount for me. I will definitely come back to try a few of their other dishes from their menu. My reason for 4 vs 5 star was the service. Very nice wait staff but service can be slow so come prepared to spend at minimum one hour to an hour fifteen for lunch. If you have somewhere to be, let them know in advance. read more

I had brunch here today with a large party of ten total and it was a very pleasant experience! They had a pre fixed brunch menu which came with a choice of drink as well as a variety of options (omelets, pancakes, etc) for an entree, and it also came with a dessert too! It was very decently priced and the portions were good. I had an omelet with spinach, goat cheese and roasted tomatoes, which came with well dressed greens. The quality of the vegetables was quite good! When you first arrive, each place setting has a plate with a two pieces of bread (one with raisins) and butter. The place was kind of small but luckily it wasn't too chaotic! The service was good and it was all around a fine experience. read more
