I followed my dermatologist to Pasadena Skin and Beauty Center from her old office on North Fair Oaks. My experience changed immediately. Her old office felt like medically-focused dermatology, while PSBC felt like a factory. While she had previously been thorough and attentive, my dermatologist now felt rushed. For two years running, at my annual check-up, I pointed out a growth that caused me concern. Both times, I was told it was nothing, even though it had begun to itch and bleed. Two months after my last check-up, I scheduled another appointment and asked her to please remove it. For the first time, she did a biopsy and told me that If I didn't hear back, no news was good news. After a month, I decided to call back on my own. The front desk told me it was Basal Cell Carcinoma, and that they had called to let me know. They hadn't, and a quick check of my phone log confirmed that. I made an appointment for removal via a MOHs procedure, and again, it was like being on a factory conveyor belt. By the time the osteopath (not my own doctor) got clear margins, he had cut a half dollar sized hole in my neck. This could have been prevented with a biopsy or preemptive removal early on. When the procedure was finished, I was sent home with no after care instructions whatsoever. I had to look that information up online. I now have a new dermatologist. Elsewhere. UPDATE: My new dermatologist biopsied another growth, one on my back, that my wife and I pointed out repeatedly to the dermatologist at PSB. As recently as four months ago, she said it was nothing to be concerned about. It was in fact another Basal Cell Carcinoma--a fairly deep one at that--that was removed yesterday. read more

TLDR: Didn't call with abnormal lab results, unsatisfactory patient care, would give 0 stars if I could. DON'T COME HERE. I need to leave this review before the year ends. Back in the beginning of 2023 when I still had HMO, I was referred here with no other options in my network for dermatology. I had two mole removals and they checked out my acne. During the visit I asked if the Dr. could take a look at the rest of my body because I suspected I had some suspicious moles in places that I can't really see (i.e., my neck and back) but Dr. Qasseem refused and said I would need to make another appointment because it would "take too long". Why would I feel right making an extra appointment when it already costed $25 to go to my PCP for a referral, and $50 for this visit? I paid for her time and she spent less than 20 minutes with me. This practice is so committed to making money that they are willing to forgo the health and suspicions of their patients. WORST of all, about a month after my mole removal, I called because I noticed that one of my sample sites was discolored and taking longer than the other to heal, and I had not received any news on the test results. Staff told me that one of the samples came back ABNORMAL. You can imagine how upset I was. I inquired as to why the staff did not give me a call with urgency considering the results. They said they tried to call me but I did not pick up. ????Then try again????? The staff and Dr. Qasseem were dismissive of my frustration and unapologetic as ever. The abnormality was not (yet) cancerous but if I had not called I never would have found out and I probably would not be keeping as close of an eye out on this problem area. Regardless of whether a lab result is normal, abnormal but not urgent, or life/death, a practice should be doing everything they can to communicate results to their patients. Don't go here. Do anything you can to advocate for yourself if this is the "only option in your network". You are entitled to adequate healthcare and a second opinion. read more

Dr. William Shipman confirmed a diagnosis of "compromised skin," then failed to make that record correction visible to me after agreeing to include my written amendment. This violated my rights under the HIPAA Right to Amend. After months of conflicting statements, the office denied my request without providing the required denial letter and I stated I would involve the OCR. At my October 23, 2025 visit, Dr. Shipman said he "could lose his license" over HIPAA and then deferred to his attorneys. He also said, "Whatever it is I'll give it to you. I will put your entire fax into the chart." When I had asked he had included the amendment in the internal chart, it was placed in a part of the record inaccessible to me through the patient portal, defeating the purpose of the amendment and keeping the correction hidden. The office manager, Coreen Hendley, later said "I'm not going to interpret any laws. We handled things the way we did and we did it correctly." She expressed if I didn't like that I can talk to their lawyers, refusing to schedule future appointments while legal discussions were ongoing, because it would be a conflict of interest. Thus effectively ended my care because I exercised a protected right. After my first appointment, a practice advertisement was correctly delivered to my household, addressed to a family member who lives with me and has never been a patient. The delivery person also accidentally handed us my neighbor's identical advertisement. Seeing both mailers showed the practice is sending identical promotions to unrelated addresses, raising serious concerns about how they manage and use contact data. read more

I recently had lip fillers done at Skin and Beauty Center, and I was really pleased with the outcome. I received excellent treatment, felt very at ease, and was treated with such kindness by both Dr. Shipman and his assistant, Annabelle. In particular, Annabelle, the assistant. Given how anxious and scared of needles I was, she reassured me and guided me through the procedure. She was extremely kind and so bubbly. DO NOT GO HERE! DR. Qaseem billed our insurance well after a procedure was done (6 months), the office claiming that it was additional charges that was left off. Our insurance told us that they paid the original procedure in full and the billing we were receiving, does not belong with the procedure that was done. The office sent me to collections for $800 in additional charges that was NOT my deductible or approved by the insurance company. After I paid for the $800, there was another bill for $50 for a missed appointment that I never made. My insurance sent me a copy of all the charges that was paid for and the average cost in the market is $1700 and I was billed for $3400 + $800 + $50. I have also reported them to the BBB. Even if nothing happens with the BBB, I can't stand by and do nothing and should post my experience for others. read more

I've wasted hundreds of dollars here along with my time and health. I met with Dr. Qaseem and am beyond disappointed. I ended up in urgent care due to her lack of knowledge and dissatisfactory treatment. If you experience CYSTS then AVOID Dr. Qaseem. she's inexperienced with this issue. read more
